I'm no vegetarian or vegan by any means, but I thought I had to give it a try because of those reviews. I read the description and I am a fan of the hen of the woods mushrooms, so I believed it would be good for sure and needless to say, it was great! The crazy thing is I didn't even have it fresh either. I was having so much trouble with transportation and accidentally ordered way too early. I didn't eat it until an hour and a half later when I got back to my hotel because it was getting so late. I don't think I thought it was great because I was hungry - I actually had a full meal before that. Anyway I had it cold and yeah it still blew me away, but I'm sure if I had it fresh out the kitchen it would've blown my mind and I would definitely come back again. The fries did get soggy however so nothing special about that. But they were seasoned well still!

My dining companions and I tried the cauliflower crunchwrap (a special), Nashville hot "chicken" sandwich, fried avocado tacos, and the bean maduro. One could choose between vegan and dairy cheese. The sandwich and Crunchwrap came with a choice of side: I got the cabbage slaw and my friend got the broccoli. All the items were tasty but portions were relatively small. None of us were particularly hungry at the time we got our food: despite this, we each had the space for ice cream at a different establishment after our meal. Needless to say, there were no leftovers. Visually, the ambiance was fantastic: all the artwork was evidently carefully chosen, and it felt like a less intense biker bar. Yet the music was exceedingly loud, even for a bar, and we were unable to hear each other for the most part during dinner. The lighting was dim to the extent that it was nearly impossible to fully appreciate the aesthetic component to our food. Perhaps lunch is a better time to visit. Overall, I will not come back for dinner, though I am curious about returning for lunch. The food is delicious enough to warrant a second visit.

Nothing was bad but there are weaker and favorite dishes. Favorites were cauliflower, stuffed cabbage, corn ribs, Balkan kebab, and both lamb dishes. Brussel sprouts and mushrooms were cooked right but weaker in flavor. Sujuk flatbread was literally a tasty pepperoni pizza...idk if you want to order that for the sake of stomach space. To each their own. Service was good. Ambience was classy and relaxing.

A lot of all you can eat places sacrifice quality for quantity, but everything we ordered was flavorful and genuinely good. Food came out quickly for the most part, and my highlights were the waffles, NY strip, sliders, and flatbreads. The ambiance was also really nice, lively and upscale without feeling too formal. It's a great spot for pretty much any occasion, whether you're with friends, family, or on a date. The only thing keeping it from 5 stars was the service. It wasn't terrible, but it could have been more attentive and consistent throughout the meal. Overall, great food, tons of variety, nice atmosphere, and excellent value. I'd definitely come back!

Some friends and I were in town for a birthday and decided we wanted to do the riverboat…read morearchitecture tour. Our friend group is split between two groups. The 1st that plans ahead and gets to places early. And the 2nd that is there for a good time but always gets everywhere late. Those of us that wanted to come early and not worry decided that we wanted to go to a restaurant close by to wait for our tour time and that's how we found Ema. As soon as we walk inside we see how beautiful and modern the interior looks. They had a lot of seating available and we got a nice table by the window with a view We wanted to eat light before the tour so we shared a bunch of small plates. We ordered the mushroom escargot, lemon Caesar, crispy potatoes, a couple orders of hummus and some chicken kebabs. That mushroom escargot was one of my favorite things I ate during the entire Chicago trip. The mushrooms were creamy and rich. It tasted umami, bright from the lemon, slightly spicy from the Calabrian breadcrumbs, and paired perfectly with some warm pita bread on the side. The hummus was smooth and well seasoned. The lemon caesar was fresh and fairly standard. The crispy potatoes were perfectly textured and were soft and pillowy on the inside. As long as they sat on the table they never lost their crisp. The chicken kebabs were tenderly, juicy and garlicky. We were all putting together our perfect bite combinations with the pita bread. Everything we ordered I would actually order again. Though may want to try a different salad next time since the Caesar was pretty simple. Regardless, still no real complaints with the food Our server was charismatic and funny. He had a great attitude and entertained us throughout the meal. Everything came out promptly as well so we made it out and could take our time walking to the riverboats. Lucky for our friends the tour said they'd be docked for a few minutes after our scheduled start time to set everything up. As 3 minutes after our start time we see group 2 sprinting up from a couple blocks away Overall Ema was consistent, flavorful and reliable. Not a bad price point either for what you get. I'd definitely recommend and come back

Tl;dr the food here is really great, even if you're not a vegan. Portions are pretty generous, and…read morethe menu is wide-ranging. Highly recommend the crab rangoon + soulful platter. ===== Stopped by one weekend near opening and was able to get seated right away! They have a good number of tables outside and inside and seem overall fairly popular since there were already a few tables before us. The menu is huge and had seemed to be mostly Asian-ish, with some other items sprinkled in. We ordered: - crab rangoon - 5/5 - very tasty and light, sauce was a great complement - soulful platter with 'chicken' wing - 4.5/5- loved the variety of components. The 'chicken' wing was a highlight and had great texture and flavor; cornbread was also really tasty. Mac and cheese had a strong nutritional yeast flavor, which I enjoyed, but kind of wish it were more cheesy. Mashed potatoes were ok. Generous portion of collard greens. - mush love - 3/5 - huge portion, but the breading was very thick and crunchy. I wish the individual pieces were split up more and the breading a bit lighter; i also wish the sauce were the same as the one for the crab rangoon. This one was more of a bbq. Definitely would come back to try more items on the menu! I was intrigued by the drinks, though they were extremely expensive (e.g. 9$+). Staff were friendly, and I appreciate the disclaimer on the menu that they pay their staff a livable wage.

Typically, I reject these dietary labels, as what we all eat is food. Simply food. However, I'm also not someone who is all "OH EW, VEGAN STUFF, NO." I will not only never say that, but I will ALWAYS try something new. You should too. ON TO THE FOOD. I had heard talk of their Ramen, so I immediately ordered that. OH MY GAWD. It is so good. It tastes like "regular" ramen, but is 100% vegan. There was a strip of stuff (it was seitan) that looked like the pork belly that typically comes in Tonkatsu ramen. How is this not meat?! It was SO GOOD and had the texture of meat. But it wasn't meat. The broth is silky smoove, savory and . . . my gawd, I drank every single drop. The noodles and veg things that typically come in ramen were there, and just delicious. Writing this review, I am now craving this ramen. We had a couple other appetizers that were fantastic too! Some breaded mushroom app that was super tasty. I'm typically not a breaded food fan, but this was light and crispy and really tasty. The interior is spare, uncluttered, full of light and spotlessly clean. The staff is so helpful, friendly, and earnest with answering any questions. No booze, it's BYOB, but they have a lot of Kombuchas to try! A neighborhood gem that I will now keep in rotation when dining out.
