The A/C was delightful and were were seated right away. It got really busy by the time we left. I think it may be the best palak paneer I have ever had. I judge Indian food based on saag or palak paneer and this was a winner. We also enjoyed a tray of grilled meats. They were all really good but the chicken was a bit dry. The dahl was spot on. I am not a fan of basmati rice. THIS basmati rice was so so good. It was longish and kinky and didn't have a heavy flavor. The onion kulcha was a bit busy with lentils? in the middle. It was good but I prefer just onions. Both the naan and kulcha were baked perfectly. Warning: portions are huge!! This is great if you live there as it could have been our next three meals with leftovers. Made for a nice breakfast the next day in our hotel tho! They're also generous with the ingredients, which makes every visit even more satisfying. Great food, great service, and a place we're always happy to come back to.

She got the Taco Trio app which had three pieces of tacos filled with curried lamb, kerala Barbacoa and vindaloo chicken, all topped with cilantro and onions. A great dish for trying different kinds of their curry. The taco shell was not fried so it would not be too greasy. I got the Lamb Shank Vindaloo entree. The shank was medium sized, served over a rich, slightly spicy curry. My server told me the dish was already very spicy so I asked for mild. It turned out to be much less spicy than I expected so it was deserve trying even if you do not eat much spicy food. It was served with basmati rice. We also shared the Ghee Roasted Cauliflower. It was a whole cauliflower par-boiled then roasted. Topped with cheese and served with yogurt and mint chutney. The cauliflower had a distinct taste from cumin and turmeric, while the yogurt+chutney gave it some freshness and heat. Overall very interesting. However, the cauliflower could be boiled for less time so it could maintain some crispness.

Interestingly, the waitress wanted us about the "spice" level and then everything came down all watered down. The curry tasted more like a mellow Thai peanut curry and I have no idea what they did to the lamb sauce because it was just a flavorful, spiceless sauce. I am so disappointed that we paid to have our food come out modified because someone in the restaurant decided we couldn't handle the heat when we explicitly said we wanted it spicy. Oh, and when I told the waitress none of the food was spicy she just laughed...

We got a table right away and ordered a vegetable samosa, something we love. It came out right away and it was so delicious. They were brought out with some sauces that elevated your plate. The samosa was a bit spicy but the many flavors paired so well together. For dinner I got the chicken tikka masala and my boyfriend got the butter chicken. We added the garlic naan and rice to our plate. The chicken tikka masala was very delicious. You can taste all the different spices in the dish. I love garlic and the garlic naan did not disappoint. It has such a great garlic taste and it was perfect for dipping in here masala sauce. The butter chicken was so buttery. It tasted very similarly to the chicken tikka masala though. Not pictured was our mango lassi. My boyfriend ordered it for us and in was pleasantly surprised. It's like a mango yogurt drink. It has a velvety texture and it was very flavorful. I would definitely get it again. Ultimately, I'd love to come back and try other items in the menu.

I was surprised it wasn't super populated when we went around 1pm on a Sunday, which was great. I also tried the onion bhaji since it was on sale and I'm glad I did. no regrets at all.

The lighting throughout the restaurant was warm and elegant, and both the interior and exterior created a very inviting atmosphere. From an ambiance standpoint, Basant definitely delivered. Service -- 5/5 The service was also excellent. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive throughout our meal. They checked on us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. Everyone we interacted with made us feel comfortable and well taken care of, and I have nothing negative to say about the hospitality. Food -- 2/5 Unfortunately, the food is where the experience fell short for me. I frequent Indian restaurants and one of the things I love most about Indian cuisine is the incredible depth and layering of flavors. Here, I just didn't experience that. The Gobi Manchurian was especially surprising. I'm accustomed to recognizable cauliflower florets, but these were minced and formed into almost meatball-like pieces. The sauce provided plenty of heat, but to me it was mostly spice without the complexity of flavor I was expecting. I was also surprised not to see a tikka masala option. I ordered a tomato-based soup and even tried adding rice to give it a little more substance, but it still lacked the depth of flavor I've experienced at other Indian restaurants. Ironically, the highlight of the meal for me was the garlic naan it was delicious. Beautiful restaurant, excellent service, but for an Indian restaurant, the food ultimately has to be the star, and unfortunately that was the weakest part of my experience. 3/5 overall.

Taste wise, I'd say it wasn't the best Bangladeshi goat biryani I've had, but it wasn't bad either. It was okay. Obviously it doesn't compare to the motherland or New York or other big metro areas, but I'm still happy there's at least one Bangladeshi spot in Chicago. I just hope they add more items to the delivery menu at some point.
