Went here last night for a friend's birthday celebration and we saw the holiday hoopla. It was all our first times here and we all loved it. I have been to Shadowbox many, many times! Today was my first Lunchbox. It's such a great way to have a break in your day. The sketches run for 45 minutes, and you have a full menu including alcohol. The slight downfall is that the actors are the more new ones in the group, so they're a little nervous. I will forever love the older crew, but the tickets are quite a steal at $10 a piece! read more

We saw Wicked games last night with some friends and we all agreed the show was outstanding and a lot of fun! We chose to eat there instead of going elsewhere beforehand, which ended up being a great idea! It was fun having drinks, nachos and a pizza at a table with our friends during the show. All were good and I would order the same again my next visit. The Art gallery had some really cool pieces I was tempted to purchase. The vibe at the show was laid back, casual and comfortable with a good view where ever you sit. The skits were funny, the music was awesome with very talented performers. Honestly, if I could give 10 stars, I totally would! I have only visited Shadowbox live twice. Once many moons ago, for one of their holiday shows and had a blast. Most recently though, I had the pleasure of getting to go to their most recent show (Legends of Liverpool), which as you can probably guess, is inspired by the Beatles. It was an amazing show and you can truly tell how much these people enjoy what they do. The passion is just amazing to watch. The raw talent these folks have is out of this world. And the same people you see on stage, take your drink/food orders, take you to your seat, greet you as you leave for the evening. I love it! This is one of the coolest things Columbus has. I enjoyed every moment and will definitely recommend to friends and family, and I will definitely be back soon! Thank you Shadowbox for all that you do! read more

We went here for date night and had a really nice time. The food was good and very reasonable, our server was a super nice guy and the atmosphere was just right. The show, Hot and Bothered was fun. I have to admit, though that there were several times during the performance that seemed to have a very Rocky Horror Picture Show vibe and was a bit confusing. Several numbers had a few performers on stage but not really doing anything, like sitting in a chair. I'm sure that there was some meaning to it, but being a fairly simple person I didn't see it. My first show at the Shadowbox Live, and wow! We were impressed! This is a great "date-night " idea and on Saturdays they even offer a show starting at 10:30pm. Great time for us since we went to dinner beforehand. I definitely recommend purchasing the reserved seating for additional $15 a person meaning you can come as late as you want and your seats are reserved. You can also decide where you'd like to sit. Or, if you don't want to pay the extra price get there well over an hour before show time so you can take your pick. They offer a full menu but stop servicing hot items 10 minutes before show time. This is due to the fact that the waiters and waitresses are the ones in the show! They also offer an alcohol menu. I definitely recommend ordering the "freak" drink and you can also order by the pitcher. For a two hour show they offer one intermission and you're allowed to order drinks then as well. You can also order before the show and request for it to come out at intermission . The show was great and the music was outstanding ! The live band was amazing! My husband loved the show so much he already bought tickets for the next one (they are called flex tickets and you also receive 4 tickets for their lunch time shows). Awesome great night spot. We were laughing the entire time (comedy was great during the show) the actresses and actors were amazing. Shadowbox Live---we will definitely be back soon! Shadowbox live, and it's location in the Brewery District and proximity to downtown and German Village is a must-go if for entertainment. I've been to probably a dozen or more shows within the past year, and I've enjoyed almost all of them. Generally, the ticket prices are pretty good and the food/drinks are cheaper than you would expect, at least cheaper than I would expect. Another cool thing is that your waiters/waitresses are also the performers! How cool is it that you get to interact with those on stage ? And of course they are very approachable, witty, and all-to-willing to enjoy the occasional banter with you. I give this place 5 starts because of it's uniqueness to the city of Columbus, the quality and creativity of the shows, and the reasonable price. It's a must-see if you're in Columbus. read more

The shows here are wonderful and the whole concept is great. I've seen a lot of amazing shows, and the drinks are always strong enough. But I'm giving it 3 stars because the food is straight trash. I've been multiple times and nothing is every good, and tbh, $20 for a basket of chips with two cold dips, and a drink is RIDICULOUS. Especially when I instantly get a stomach ache from said chips and dip. Go for the shows, but do yourself a favor and go next door or, hell, even down the street to the Kroger, for food beforehand. read more

I have been to every show since "The Dream" in 2018. This live rock music and sketch comedy club has brought me a lot of joy. From dance theater productions such as Desire to rock tributes such as Evolutionaries, to sketch comedy like Hellraiser to their New Year's Eve party, I am blown away by the sheer talent. I've left loving songs I didn't even like before. My husband and I still laugh about sketches we saw last year. Food is ok - I recommend chips and spinach dip or any of the pizzas. Pizza sub is also good with banana peppers. The cookies with a scoop of ice cream really hit the spot at intermission - and they don't skimp on the alcohol so treat yourself! My husband particularly enjoys the backstage lemonade. I feel like I know metaperformers like Nick, David, Brian, Erin, Nikki, Alexis, Summit, etc because they are so personable, kind and talented. I am moving out of state and one of the things I'm most sad about is not having Shadowbox Live anymore. read more

Ah Shadowbox. How do you review such an eclectic place? Do I review the food? The drinks? The actual shows? I'll try to touch on everything. Location - In the heart of the recently reviving Brewery District. I far prefer this location to Easton, even though it is more of a hassle to get to. I'll take the glowing neon sign outside and the old brick building over a shopping mall any day. Food/Drink - Very tasty. Also very pricey. I'd knock off about 1/2 star for the price of the goods here. Every time I come here, I spend about $30 per person in food and drinks. That said, everything tastes really good. I am particularly in love with the nachos, whose portion sizes are enormous. I would love to see some draft beer, and find it strange that they don't have a tap system, especially with their proximity to Worlf of Beer and CBC. Atmosphere - Very appropriate. I like the decor, the hardwood and bricks, the artwork, everything. I realize that this is a non-profit and they are probably strapped for cash, but I don't care for all of the panhandling at the tables. If you give them your phone number or email, expect to be contacted for tickets, albeit usually at a discount. The shows - Entertaining! Duh, that is the point right? They have some really talented people working here. The band always nails the covers pretty spot on, and the actors do a good job with their parts. I love this man, and wish to subscribe to his newsletter. He's hot AND talented. - THE FREAK. This drink is a sneaky git. All of a sudden....you're drunk. - The Food. I always get the tenderloin sandwich. (tenderloin, horseradish sauce, onion crisps....delish.) I've had the popcorn, which is good and fresh. Friends have sampled the nachos, the chicken sandwich, and the pepperoni sub thing...all with rave reviews. - The new *store* for swag! Specific to this show (opening night of Legacy): Britney Spears and Antonio Banderas (independently) singing to people in the crowd. My complaints/wishlist: - smaller volunteers and/or tables farther apart. It never fails, someone orders food near the cut off, and it's delivered during the show, in the dark, by the largest volunteer on staff, who can't find where they are supposed go...and lingers.right.in.front.of.me. - JT's phone number (I kid! I kid! Sorta.) - easier way to identify sizing in the swag store. I had to dig through a basket of rolled up shirts, and still never found my size. Shadowbox Cabaret is one of my all-time favorite places to go out in Columbus. Shadowbox is, as they call themselves, a "sketch comedy & rock and roll club". Basically, combine great original sketch comedy, rock and roll music covered by an EXCELLENT house band, plus food and booze, and you get Shadowbox! The main show rotates through around 5 themes each year, running for 2-3 months each. Summers are the "Best of" show, containing all the best comedy sketches & songs from the previous year's worth of shows. The end of the year (late November through December and sometimes VERY early January) is Holiday Hoopla, their holiday-themed show, one of their busiest, most loved, and longest running. Around those are various other themes, usually a Halloween-themed show in the fall, a sex-themed show at the beginning of the year, and others. In addition to the regular show, Shadowbox also runs a 45-minute lunchtime show on Fridays called, naturally, the Lunchbox. It's a great way to blow off work with a long lunch and a few drinks while at the same time taking in a nice sampling of some of the great things Shadowbox has to offer. But there's MORE! Recently Shadowbox has "returned to their roots" (and presumably given up any hope of free time) by running performances of musicals on Sundays (two performances, a matine and an evening show). So far they've done great performances of The Who's Tommy, Rocky Horror Picture Show and Cabaret, and next up is the return of Rocky Horror Picture Show. While enjoying the show, you can also partake of Shadowbox's full bar and menu of food. Longtime Shadowbox staples of nachos (piled high with cheese, onions, black olives and - if you wish - jalapeos), pizza, and three-cheese bread, plus over the past couple years the menu has expanded significantly to offer a few great salad options, some good sandwiches (try the beef tenderloin - it's phenomenal!), and more. Tired of the same ole places? Try an evening at Shadowbox Live. Great regional theater and well worth the price of admission. If your evening is to "harried" try the lunch time performances. There is a house band that really is pretty terrific. Offerings include food (just average), alcohol (average pricing), live music( very good) and even salsa lessons (free if you went to a show). They are known for their production of Rocky Horror Picture Show. It is a must see. There are lots of options at Shadowbox. Just know you should arrive at least 2 hours before a popular show. Seating is "first come first serve". You will be given a # upon arrival; they start calling them one hour before show starts, when the doors open. The more popular the show the earlier you should get there. In the mean time, relax and have a drink at the bar. read more

It is amazing that these people are talented enough to put up with customers/customers orders and then jump on stage and put on a kick ass show! Interesting experience. Love the entire concept. Very well organized. My wife, her friend and I saw the Hellraiser show at 10:30-ish pm on a Saturday night. Pre-show we ordered drinks and I ordered an Ham-Apple panini. Sandwich served in plastic container with kettle-style chips. Reasonably priced. Decent sandwich. Standard bar food. Was seated by staff member (later he did a GREAT rendition of Black Sabbath War Pigs). Venue not over crowded. We had great view of stage. Another staff member took our next drink orders and friend ordered a veggie tray for nibblers. (This staff member later had a great harmonica solo during Bad to the Bone). She came back at intermission to take another drink order. Very good comedy skits. The Contract Lawyer vs Satan, Security Guards seeing "Ghosts" and the "Dr Frankenstein" acts were my favorites. Great performance of "This is Halloween" with a large portion of the staff. The Musicians did a great job. Very good rendition of "Believer". Great LIVE theater. This is a hidden gem in the city Columbus, shows are always spot on and worth the ticket. Food is tasty, modern, and casual. The setup will remind you of the movies showing dinner theaters, but remember it's not your great grandparent dinner theater. These are Broadway style shows & casual modern bar food. So. Much. FUN! Went to see Freak Show to celebrate my birthday. Wasn't sure what to expect as I have gotten mixed reviews from people. All I can say is you have to go and see for yourself. It's a easy going atmosphere and the servers are also the performers. If you go as a party of 2 you will most likely be at a table with another couple which also makes it fun getting to know new people. We ate before we went but from what I saw of the menu it was mostly pub food, good for snacking while having a beverage. ;) What do you have to lose?! I bring visitors and friends to The Box when ever possible! We come here do often, the performers know us! You'll be treated to an evening of music and sketch comedy. Every show is different but our favorites are the '' Best of '', Halloween and Christmas shows. The perrformers are also your chef, bartender and waiters/waitresses. Came here to see a production of Chicago, and was floored by how good it was! I can honestly say that I enjoyed it more than I did the Broadway production. Much of this had to do with the venue: it's hard for me to describe the space, other than to say it's (a) very cool, (b) quite unique, and (c) a lot larger than the unassuming storefront would suggest. Basically, this is dinner/lunch theater, where the performers are also servers (before and after the show, and during intermission). The food is decent, featuring salads, sandwiches, pasta, and pizza at prices that are on the higher end of reasonable. I'm going to try to make it back here for one of their sketch comedy and rock music (two of my favorite things) shows sometime in the next couple of months... read more

My wife and I saw Sex, Love & Rock-n-Roll this past Friday evening. 7:30 show. Everything was fantastic. We got a drink at the bar before the show and got called to be seated pretty quickly. We got seated at a table for 4 with 2 really nice women. The service at the table was perfect. Just the right amount of attention. We both got a pizza. It was really good. The show was awesome. These people are dedicated, nice, and absolutely hilarious. I have all the love in the world for them, I can never wait until I get to go back! Going to Shadowbox is like hanging out at my best friends house if they had a stage full of talented people and a rockin' house band. And they have food and booze! I love Shadowbox Live! I have been attending shows since I was 12. I've celebrated my 18th, 19th and 21st birthday at shadowbox live! Their musicals are my favorite! I've never seen a show, Sunday musicals, Wednesday/Thursday Shows or Friday/Saturday Sketch Comedy & Rock n Roll, that I haven't laughed at, or thoroughly enjoyed! Some of my all time favorites have been, Rocky Horror, Reffer Madness, Little Show of Horrors, Chicago, Rent, A funny thing happened on the way to the Forum (my first show), Scrooge, Smoke and Mirrors, The Best of Shadowbox Live and Burlesque!!! The huge variety of their shows, allows for people of all ages to find something they like :) Their drinks and food are delicious too! If you are 21+ , you must try their pitcher of "The Freak". Some of my food favorites on the menu is their white pizza, 3 cheese bread, nachos, and mount shadowbox (dessert)! Wether you are a vegetarian, a picky eater or just love food, there is something on the menu for you! I eat dinner at every show I see and I've never ordered anything I've disliked :) I also recommend celebrating special events (birthdays, bachelorette party, wedding anniversary, etc.) with Shadowbox live; they neve disappoint! My friend received free tickets via email to a thursday show, so we planned a double date night with our guys. There was plenty of parking along the streets and behind the complex when we pulled up. I was very excited as of literally 20yrs ago, I attended my first show (same title) at the original location before it was devastated by fire. Even though I enjoyed shows at Easton I never felt like it gave off the same vibe. I could not wait to see what this location has to offer compared to the other 2. (I know I should make it more often lol) When we entered we were greeted by the cast who double as the floor staff. Everyone was very inviting and sent great vibes. We checked in and found out our friends were already here, yay! The place was packed. We joined them at a table towards the back. The server/actor was at our table when we arrived, informed us no more hot food. Our friends said they ordered a veggie pizza to share so it worked out. We ordered 2 perfect manhattans in time for last call. Lights were dimmed and the show began. They have their own in-house band cast members are part of too. They play original songs written per set or jam out covers. They totally rocked it. My husband keeps repeating "Business is open" lmao! The veggie pizza arrived shortly and I must say we were all impressed!! The crust was thin, crunchy, and topped with an abundant amount of veggies. It was delicious and just enough for the 4 of us to share. The show we saw I believe was Sex at the Box (please don't hate me if thats not the exact wording) It was very adult humor. I was excited about this show due to the title being the exact first show I saw 20 years ago with a bf. Let me say, we left hot and in a quickness for privacy and now I get to see it with my husband. Once I told him the effects of last show, he was excited too lol The show was kind of white trashy funny but a notch above. There were different scenarios set up for each set. Music in between. This particular show seemed to make fun of sex or the outrageous thoughts of it. There were some really funny 1 liners and some "huh" moments. Maybe because it was a Thursday night, or maybe the guy in the front row passing out in middle of show (he was good, ambulance called) show stopped for a few, everyone was concerned- it was nice to witness a group with empathy for another person. The actors were great and killed each punchline. But the red hot seductive vibe of the show just wasn't there. But we did leave with some great liners for the night. I know, its a whole different kind of show from what I saw 20years ago lol I still enjoyed it and laughed hearty. All in all this is a great place to bring a group, with a date or even by yourself. I've been to Shadowbox several times now and I have to say, I think it deserves a 5. Now, I'm not saying every show is a 5, but the venue and experience is. Some shows are better than others for sure, but I've never not had a good time. This is a great alternative to the usual dinner and drinks. Their menu isn't the greatest, but it's not awful. But what is great is getting your food and drinks for dinner and having a live show to watch while you dine! I have to say the BBQ chicken nachos are huge and delicious! They run a pretty smooth operation and are always super friendly. I've always been treated as though they truly appreciate my attendance rather than being treated as a pain in the ass. There is parking all around if you don't mind paying a few bucks, esp through the week. Shows usually run 2-2.5 hours with an intermission. I'm telling you, it's worth your time and money to go out and see some live music and comedy! Pro tip- fill out the comment cards on the table because they often times offer up free tickets to shows that have been running for awhile and may have low attendance one evening! read more

Went last Thursday with friends for dinner and show. Food was priced fairly. I got the veggie sub and chips for $8.50. It was okay. My spouse got the sausage and peppers and pasta. He said it was very good. We went with 8 people so each of our dishes came served at different times. The Prince/ David Bowie show was entertaining.
