Buyer beware. I do not recommend Sew Rose for anything more than amateur projects. For many years I have been sending my custom upholstery and slipcover work to LA, to the shop used by Mark Sikes and other designers. Recently I thought it would be nice to patronize a local shop. Big mistake. I asked Burgundi to confirm the yardage for a small project working with a plaid fabric. I sent her a photo of the fabric and she told me she needed 3 yards, which was 1 yard more than my usual shop quoted. Since my fabric is $300 per yard, I asked why she could not do it for 2 yards and was told she needed an extra yard in case of cutting errors. This was the first red flag. She then provided a quote for the work and I purchased the fabric and brought it to her. While chit chatting about the project, I thanked her for being able to work with the 2 yards since the fabric was on the slightly more expensive side. She seemed to panic when she heard the price and then started second guessing whether she could do the work. She said she hadn't contemplated having to align the pattern along the seams. (Huh? Isn't this a given?). She then told me she could do the work, but to leave the fabric there so she could do the measurements again sometime the following week. I said sure, and then asked her assistant if I could pay the deposit for the work so that there was an agreement between us as to the scope of work and/or who was responsible for the fabric after I left it there. Her assistant then got visibly irate and said I should just "trust them." (It's not about trust, but rather about having a simple receipt like I get from the drycleaner when I leave my clothes there??) At any rate, in order to calm her, I politely apologized for being detail oriented, chalked it up to my being a lawyer, paid the deposit, drove 30 minutes home and then received an email from Burgundi saying she had decided she could not do the work after all. I expressed my surprise, and so Burgundi then called to explain it was because this is an expensive fabric and she was uncomfortable with me being a lawyer, and I just seemed like a really difficult person and people like me are never happy with her work. Wow, those were a lot of generalizations to throw at someone she had just met. Since I had already purchased the fabric (and I was now back home and the fabric was still at her shop), I politely asked if she might reconsider. She said she would let me know in five days after she had a chance to "cool off." Yikes. Burgundi lost this work from me, as well as any confidence I had in her to do any work for me in the future. I am glad I dodged this bullet, but I was not happy about the time I wasted going out of my way to keep my work local or work with Sew Rose. In the end, I got my slipcovers made (beautifully and without drama) by my original shop which did not hesitate or think twice about doing it with the 2 yards of fabric which I had experienced so much unnecessary drama with Burgundi over. read more

Wonderful experience! My mom's sewing cabinet chair from 1960 was in bad shape. I could not be happier with my newly recovered chair. They are busy, so there's a queue, but that's a good sign of the custom nature of their work. I sent photos and measurements via email, and they gave me a ballpark (which ended up spot on). When we met up, owner Burgundi found the absolute perfect fabric on her shelves. I LOVE it. Her assistant, Julia, was also great to work with. Today my cherished chair is home looking better than ever. Burgundi even made a little cover from the fabric for protection (I mentioned my cat was going to want to sleep on it) and touched up the wood parts too. I'd use Sew Rose again in a heartbeat.
