I was drawn to the flameworking class because of the thoughtful expression of how the instructor, Saint, described the process of working with borosilicate glass in their class. Truthfully, I was so blown away by it all. Urban Glass has a beautiful community based inclusivity spirit and artist centered focus. The studio was well organized and vast. The staff and technical support team are friendly and helpful. Saint's class had a wonderful pacing to it for a 6 hour workshop. We got to know all of the participants and connect together in a fun way, had a few informative demos on equipment safety and glass techniques, and then got to creating! Han, another glass artist at Urban Glass assisted the class, and it was really great to be able to explore making marbles, small figurines on our own and also have Saint and Han jump in when we needed a bit of extra hands on help. I felt confident from the demos and my practice time to be able to rent space on my own after. Our class has stayed in touch since, and I know several of us from the class have been back to the studio since to create. I'm excited to return to explore and learn more!

We had a private glassblowing lesson in July. The lesson was very fun and well structured. Would recommend a lesson for special occasions, and one of their classes if you want to go more regularly!

He taught me everything he knows about mixing in a very chill non formal manner which I appreciate. He went beyond syllabus by sharing insides of the industry and answering millions of my questions patiently. Thanks again Ron and also Dave the studio manager for being awesome. I do recommend this course.

The teachers are all very friendly and make themselves available for their students. Once you become part of the academy it's like you become part of the Garnish family for life (if you choose to keep that connection!) The class sizes are small and the curriculum has recently been revised to optimize productivity. They also do additional courses on beat-making, film scoring and vocal recording. They are open to hearing students' ideas for new classes as well. Everyone behind the scenes here works really hard to make this a great place. Much appreciated.

Christian (the Director) is fantastic and always has a smile on his face and even though has a ton of kids (summer camp, afterschool, etc) always remembers my kids names and my husband and mine as well! Christian is also super flexible as we've had to drop the kids in last minute if plans fell through and is always super responsive. The location is AMAZING. As a black mom of two black boys - I love that the staff is DIVERSE - all colors and genders of the rainbow. Representation matters! I also love that they mix up the day with chess free play, board games, outside play and a movie with chess instruction. The kids have learned the game of chess and have developed a love of it - Thank you NY Chess & Games!

They are wonderful role models and are funny, patient, and engaging. This is the fourth year that my kids have been attending their after school and summer camp (since they were ages 4 and 6). This chess program has helped build their social skills, their analytic thinking and their confidence. Plus, the kids love it there; they say, "it's like going to camp in a toy store!" Also, any day that school is closed, they offer an affordable all-day chess camp from 8 am-6 pm that's so appreciated by us working parents.
