They've taken over the former (RIP) Black Drop Coffee space, which is now filled to the brim with beautiful yarn. And their original shop space is full of gorgeous, high quality fabrics. They have designers and prints I've never seen in other fabric stores, and they have a great selection of cotton fabrics as well as some knits and other options. Next time I'm making a quilt, I'll stop by and pick fabrics here as I know it will make any project just that much more unique and interesting. Speaking of fabric, last weekend I took an ice dyeing class here with their wonderful owner, Heather. I've never dyed fabric before, and was a little nervous about how it would all work. I also never knew you could dye with the help of buckets of ice! It was a blast and I can't wait to have time to add yet another fabric-related hobby to my arsenal of crafty talents. During this most recent visit, I also noticed they carry embroidery kits, basket-weaving supplies, and even a small assortment of interesting-sounding seeds. If you're the crafty type (or just dream of being one) definitely pop into Northwest Yarns - I'm sure you'll be just as inspired as I am!

Most of the staff is so kind and helpful, but there is one employee who seems to always be there when I go who is so unpleasant and bad-mannered that I've found myself avoiding this store and going to others in town whenever I can. If you go any time after 3pm, don't expect someone with a good attitude to help you.

Since I first reviewed this shop (8 years ago!), many MANY beloved local quilt shops have gone out…read moreof businesses - including several of my favorites. So, even though it's a bit off the beaten path, Calico Creations has become a place I can rely on to grab the perfect fabric for my latest project. So I try to stop there when I'm passing near (or through) MV. They carry all of the major designers and latest lines. From modern prints by Tula Pink and Kaffe Fassett to more traditional calicos and Civil War style fabrics, you will find it here. Not to mention they have an extensive collection of solids and blender fabrics, baby fabrics, pattern books and even some pre-cuts (not many, but I'll take it). Not in a sewing mood? Find inspo from their ever-rotating samples adorning their windows and walls. On a budget? They have an impressive (and huge) sale area in the back, where fabric is $10/yard (or lower). My only criticism is their small space. They could easily fill a shop twice the size, and as a result many MANY of their bolts are sitting on the floor. They try to keep it organized, and do a pretty good job, but it bears mentioning you'll need to "file" through bolts on the floor that aren't as easy to view as the ones on the shelves.

Took my first class today (cathedral window pillow top) and it was awesome! I highly recommend…read morethis shop for many reasons - selection of fabrics, notions and their class was great!!

I love this store and visit it almost weekly. it's my feel good place to visit…read more The atmosphere is wonderful BUT I have one problem and that's the management. When you are a manager you should know when your busy times are and you should staff accordingly so that your checkout lines move quickly and smoothly. You should have at least 2 managers or shift leaders up front to help with any issues at the registers when you have at least 6 open. You also need to have enough cashiers to move the lines along. when you have only 2 registers open and you have 3-4 people in each line you need to call for another cashier. Your cashiers should be polite and say hello or how's your day going but they should not start an actual conversation that slows down the lines. I have seen many frustrated customers waiting in long lines, I am not the only one. It is important to keep those lines moving quickly so you keep your customers happy. I understand that without scan bars on the products that it is not as quick as a store with them but I believe that the cashiers should be taught to input a bit faster and cutting the conversations down while doing this would help so they can concentrate on the items being imputed. They can be polite (which they all are) but if they would just cut those conversations down it would really help. So to sum it all up I believe either the manager needs retraining or he/she needs to have regular meetings to instruct the cashiers how to help the lines move faster. Staffing during busy times is also very essential, enough at the registers and enough on the floor.

Effortless dressing - no more fussing with pinchy, bind-y clothing! Ever since discovering Texture at a Green Festival a few years years ago, I've worn their "comfy skirts" at least two times a week. I now own seven of their skirts: two mini and five regular length (just below the knee). I wear them in warm weather with bare legs, and all winter with sweater tights. At the office and on weekends. With flats, boots, and heels. I also have a pair of Posh Pants that I'm fond of, though that style is less versatile. Their hemp fabric with four-way stretch is amazing stuff. It holds its shape, sways nicely when you move, and takes color well. It's neither too heavy nor too thin. Unlike many other knits, it doesn't fade, pill, or cling. The amount of "give" is also just right, and seems miraculously figure-flattering for all body types. It packs well and doesn't wrinkle, so is perfect for travel. Texture is a bit pricier than some other clothing, but I've found it to be worth every penny, particularly when thinking in terms of cost-per-wear. I live on the east coast and (unfortunately) don't make it to the Pacific northwest very often, so I haven't been to Texture's storefront. Sometimes I have found their products locally in Maryland (e.g. at Nest), but I've also ordered online and I love dealing directly with Teresa and her staff, not some impersonal corporate ordering system. I'd love to visit them on their home turf some day! Ladies, do yourselves a favor and try a Comfy Skirt. Me, I'm about to order my first one in maxi length!
