The Severn Shed is one of Bristol's smarter venues. Half the shed (much classier than that sounds) is a cocktail bar and the other half a restaurant. The cocktail bar is worth a visit. The staff know what they're doing, and will impress with twirls of vodka bottles. There's a harbourside balcony where you can watch the rowers going past with cocktail in hand, a very relaxing way to spend the evening. The food is pretty sophisticated stuff. Last time I went with a group of eight and only heard one person with a bad word about their meal. It's not cheap, but there are lunch deals, so maybe go and research these before visiting. Whether you visit the bar or the restaurant (that's if you've got the cash to do it) Severn Shed will bring a dash of class to your day. read more

The Severn Shed is a lovely little restaurant tucked away behind Queen's Square. As with most things located on the harbour, I was very excited to visit here and I wasn't disappointed! If the weather is good, try and eat/drink outside on the terrace as the views are lovely and it makes a very peaceful afternoon. As you can see by the pictures I uploaded, I visited in the snow which meant it was a little cold to eat outside, however there are equally good views if you are able to sit at the back windows. The food was very nice, and not badly priced considering the location. On the note of location, The Severn Shed is a little far away from the heart of Bristol. It's a really nice place to come for a couple of drinks and if you are in the area, definitely worth a pop in. read more

It's not cheap but you get what you pay for here and if you manage to take advantage of one of their great offers you could get a real bargaincheck out their website but they used to run 2 courses for £7 if you got there before 7pm. My experience at The Severnshed was A-OK. The staff was A-OK The venue was A-OK The burger was A-OK The ambiance was A-OK ...but much like this review, there was just a little too much A-OK going on to bump it up to fan status. However, I will say this: For a nice tasty meal in a stand-up establishment, I'd definitely put Severnshed on the list. It didn't wow me, but it certainly didn't disappoint. Like I said... Severnshed pulls off a pretty impressive trick for a big venue - it appears to be a lot more intimate space than it actually is. Mainly through the low and warm lighting, they've done a great job of distracting you from the fact that you're essentially sitting in a large, er, shed, I suppose! The food is excellent, with the falafel being my personal pick of the starters, while the roast chicken, which comes the creamiest of mashes, stands out from the mains. Before I visited the Seven Shed, I was extremely familiar with the Shed cocktail bar in Exeter, having visited several times for the flashy but low priced happy hour delights. The Seven Shed didn't disappoint; they serve food here too, and it's a great place to come on a weeknight before 8pm, as they have a special menu which is significantly cheaper. The food is served in adequate portions and is fantastically presented. The space does, however lack some atmosphere as it is a large lofty space, and it seems to be a trademark of the shed company to have unisex toilets! I don't know why I'm not a fan of this place. Maybe its because I had a not very good Christmas meal here a couple of years ago, although I have been back since and the food has been great! The cocktails here are also great. The last lunch I had here was extremely tasty, I went for the lunchtime special, had a delicious sausage and mash meal. Service was so-so, the waiter asked did we want water with our meal and then followed it up with "still or sparkling". We requested tap. Don't offer people water if you're not going to give it to them for free! I think perhaps its the ambiance of the Servernshed that puts me off. It attracts a business lunch clientele, the venue itself is very white and unlike the muddock which exudes cosiness, I just can't warm to the Severnshead. read more

I have been to Severn Shed twice and had 2 very different experiences. My first visit was very pleasant, a relaxed evening with a great atmosphere. But my second visit was a real let down. First time round we were greeted at the door and seated quickly despite not making reservations; I enjoyed a lovely starter that was a bit like brioche followed by some delicious salmon. We all had a really good time and could not help ordering pudding as we were enjoying ourselves too much to let the night end early! And I like pudding. However on my next visit the service we experienced really ruined the night. We were left waiting to order anything, even drinks, for ages and then when we finally got our drinks it took just as long again to order our food. The food was lovely again, and maybe they were under staffed, but no one made any attempt to apologise to us for the wait and by the end of the second course we were all ready to leave. Such a shame, I hope it was just a blip, but I am not sure I want to go back a third time to check. The food here is truly fantastic, so I do recommend you visit, just maybe pick your night with some care. read more

This bar-restaurant on Bristol's waterfront is inside one of the old boat-building sheds. On the river side there are tables where you can watch the setting sun while drinking fine cocktails (or reasonable beers) and on the inside the shed is divided into two areas: the bar and the restaurant. The bar often fills with the local suited lawyers, but the drinks are worth going for and the menu is very enjoyable. There's no parking anywhere nearby but it's a nice stop on a walking waterfront tour of Bristol. Try the cod & Yorkshire caviar. read more

I only drank at Severnshed, and didn't eat, so I'll stick to reviewing it as a place to drink. I went with a friend when they had a 2 for 1 deal on cocktails. The cocktails were very good, service was excellent. I wouldn't have wanted to have paid full price for the drinks, as they were on the expensive side, but the atmosphere was great and I defnitely enjoyed myself. Wandering around the harbour on a Sunday afternoon at the very awkward time of 3 - 5 pm (when most places are either (i) shut, or (ii) changing over to dinner menu) we arrived at The Severn Shed. The place was fairly quiet at that time which was perfect for us (party of two) because we got a great window table looking across the harbour. My mind was set on something which involved steak, or carvery (it being a Sunday) but I took a leap of faith and went for the Chicken Schnitzel. She had pork medallions. Both came with gratin potatoes (which were plentiful and creamy and not overly garlicky). Mine came with fantastic buttered spinach while her's came with green beans. The food was well presented, very good portion sizes and very tasty. Washed down with a great selection of wines (most served by the glass). We were both ravenous having just finished a long hike around Cheddar - but the meals were hugely satisfying. The service was great, mostly Spanish young people who were really friendly and polite. The flat-white was more like a white coffee - maybe that's the reason it wasn't on the menu. Never got to sample the awesome cocktail menu!! Highly recommended for good food, and the place looks like it would be the ideal start for Saturday night out! read more

Lovely dinner out. Hubby decided to treat me. Menu all looks good, and it was hard to choose. There's a mixture of comforting classics, and more extravagant creations, along with a good specials menu. To start I had carpaccio. It was more like thinly sliced steak. I was surprised how cooked it was round the edge... It was also not quite the quality of beef I would have expected for a carpaccio. The plate as a whole was a good size and tasty though. For main I had a fish and prawn thai curry. I'm not a fish eater usually, but this sounded wonderful on the menu and it was! The fish just melted! For dessert I ordered the sticky toffee pudding - beware, this thing is HUGE! About a 3 inch cube of pudding! I didn't finish it! The sauce was yummy though. The staff are attentive, but not intrusive. The wine I ordered got mixed up, but was replaced with no question. After dinner we went through to the bar, where a cocktail waiter "created" some drinks for us. The building is beautiful, but the only downside is that with just having 1 door to the outside, you tend to get a draught every time anyone comes in or out. read more

My first time at this restaurant was for work Christmas dinner and I wasn't overly impressed with the food. It promised much but delivered little. That said, Christmas dinners that cater for large amounts of people are rarely that good. My second time there was better, but it still didn't deliver anything other than gastro-pub type food. The "shed" part of Severn Shed is in reference to the fact that this building was at one time used as a boat building shed for the harbour. Of course they don't build boats in there anymore; today it is a modern and stylish restaurant/bar with wonderful waterside views. The clientele is predominantly suits and young professionals, but the prices can be surprisingly reasonable. Their 977 deal is a good shout as you get a two course meal for £9.77. If you add a couple of drinks on to that, you're getting a very nice meal out for well under £20 each. Bargain, as far as I'm concerned. Major downside to this restaurant is there's no parking, but it's the perfect place you can stroll to after work in the summer and enjoy the sun setting. Highly recommended. read more

Stopped in here after a long tour of Bristol. The service is a little off putting/cold but that could be because I'm from the US and used to a more friendly approach. A shack by the river... This review starts very randomly... And, oh boy, how random is it to grab a perfectly served weissbier, get on the balcony, and start drinking while watching the water, and the nearby multi-coloured houses... After being directed to our booth (we were 4, and frankly, unless you're Hobbit-sized, I can't recommend having a party of more than 4 on those tiny tables...), we were given the fancy-looking menus... And to make a long story short, the food was good, without being exceptional. We had some mixed platters for starters (whitebait, calamari, hummous), which lacked a pinch of salt to be honest. Then, we went for the mains, and I admit my colleagues had great fajitas, skewers, and pork, with delicious sides. On my end, I went for a minute-braised steak, which is "best served rare", and I insisted on it being rare, but what I got was a thin well-done steak, though tasty and juicy. Yeah, I've had better... In my opinion, what gives this place a 4 star instead of the 3 I would have given, is the excellent service, despite the odd reaction when I told the waitress that my steak had been overcooked, and the amazing fruit smoothies we had for drinks. read more

I'd like to give it 3.5 stars. The view of the river on the terrace was nice. I know it's stereotypical, but I ordered the Fish and Chips. The cod was perfect. The chips were ok. The pea purée was nice. It was a nice relaxing late lunch. Not a knockout, but very good. read more

The place was heaving when i visited a few months ago, which to some degree tells its own story on how popular it is. The slight downside to this is that it can get very noisy. However this shouldn't detract from some very tasty food and although very busy, some good service. Though admittedly from just the one visit, i would advise that you book a table to avoid disappointment. Another of Brizzle's waterfront establishments, Severnshed is a cocktail bar/contemporary restaurant with a sophisticated style. It's a fantastic drinking destination, with good cocktails and a summery vibe out on the deck. Unfortunately I found the food disappointing and a tad pricey- dishes such as beer-battered fish and chips with 'Yorkshire caviar' (mushy peas) were no better than they would have been in any pub. read more

Severnshed restaurant is located on the Grove at the harbourside. The actual restaurant is said to be in an old boat house which adds plenty of atmosphere. Brilliant place, brilliant service and brilliant prices! Definitely recommend you visit there. You can also eat out on the balcony area which is really nice especially on cool summer nights. You can also just have drinks there and there is often music played at weekends by bands. This place is divided in to the dining area where you can go for a proper evening meal and a bar area with very comfortable seating. If you are ever here, you must absolutely try their cocktails. Severnshed has recently had a refurbishment and what a refurbishment it is! A random (but lovely!) collection of bric-a-brac on the walls and around the restaurant. Went there for the prix fixe lunch menu with my colleague which was a great way to spend our lunch hour! Service was friendly and the food was tasty. The terrace looked nice but unfortunately it was too cold to enjoy our lunch out there.... The a la carte menu looked appetising so I'll definitely return to try that! read more
