They've got loads of well kept full size snooker tables, complete with the overhead lights they have on the games on the telly and a general feeling of people concentrating on their game. It's still fairly pubish though. There's a bar sky sports and this isn't a bad just to come for a drink, especially as its a bit less rowdy than most places on and around Park Street (not that this is particularly hard). Drink prices aren't bad at all either if you can find the special deals. I like Rileys, it's nice to have somewhere where you can get a decent game and I would play all the time if it wasn't for the prices and the demand of membership fee. If I'm desperate for a quiet game I'll just head to a pub on a weekday afternoon or some other quiet time.

Although a temporary appointment, we inevitably ended up coming here a lot for a short period. If you're looking for a certain night, it has everything you need. There are a good twelve American pool tables in the along with a few smaller versions in the main room. This means that you always can grab a table, no matter what time of night you decide to show up. This place is open 24 hours, so if you bowl out of a club at three and are feeling competitive, this is your place. They also serve food through the night, so it's the ultimate 'after club game of pool burger and chips' in Bristol city centre. There's other things that would only interest the interested, like a snooker room, poker tables and the option for poker nights, Worzel staff, pool queues, chalk and bags for hire, locals and yocals in bifocals. Although the place doesn't deserve a top rating as it's pretty bland and chain like, it definitely doesn't deserve less than a three because it serves a purpose and I have always had good nights there if I've been looking for that sort of thing. You have to sign up as a member though, so that's worth knowing. Take an extra fiver if you wanna play.

On every Saturday night (apart from one a month, can't remember if it's the first or the last -soz) they have a club night called "department s" run by Bristol legend Jon The Mod and his lovely other half Jamie (Jamie runs the gimme shelter vintage boutique in the foyer of the venue) Jon has been playing in various bristol venues for donkey's years (ever since I can remember) he specialises in 60s Garage Beats, Northern Soul, 60's GROOVES, Rock and Roll, Two Tone, Tamla, Alt 80's, MOD and INDIE Anthems - ( I stole that bit from his website ) It's guaranteed to be a good night and quite often there will be a band playing, last week was the gimme Hendrix experience, a fantastic Jimi Hendrix tribute band, there is also a large courtyard for smokers but it's also a nice place to sit if you need to cool down a bit from all the dancing !

I like that you can help yourself to veggie etc from the platters. We had extra cauliflower cheese dish aswell. The bar has a large selection ciders, ales & wines! Has a smoking area out the back. The decors great, it's got loads of disco balls, cool art work and funky lights. The tables are rustic wooden benches, and there's 4-5 booths along the wall. We had the big booth which looks out on to stokes croft so perfect for people watching. It was a bit snug for the 11 of us but it worked. We ordered at the bar and paid separately which was good with a large group of us. The food came out with in about 10-15 minutes. I had the Turbo Island Chicken (Turbo Island is an infamous landmark of Stokes Croft), served with roast potatoes and a fat Yorkshire pudding, yum!! The chicken was really tender and the roasters really crispy. The veg is served on big sharing trays, we had mashed carrots, red and white cabbage, And a jar of gravy, it looked great I loved that everyone could just tuck in and help them selves. The food was great and there were 11 very clear plates which days it all really! On a Sunday they have 'back at ours' after dinner the lights are dimmed, decks out and the DJ plays some tunage. I really liked it here on a Sunday night, it had a really nice vibe. I haven't enjoyed it so much when I have visited on Friday and Saturday night. I can see us spending many Sundays back at theirs and will definitely be bringing the gang again!

I had spent a long day shopping and what's more I had to climb to the top of Park Street to get home, so by the time i'd reached the summit I was famished. It's light and airy inside which is just what I needed for lunch time (I actually like to be able to see what I am eating instead of getting out my phone's flash due to a pub's 'moody lighting'). The best reasons to go here are for the quiz, which we won the one and only time we participated. We were pretty surprised, but I think it was the team name of Schindler's Fist that actually won it for us. You should also check out the football here if you can, they have a massive projector screen and the atmosphere is usually pretty great; none of this sipping a Spritzer watching the game in a wine bar in Clifton. There's nothing like wasting away the hours in a pool hall, or sharing a civilised conversation over a game of snooker. At Tim Franklins you can get your own table... oh, the amount of times I have come in here and fantised about splashing out on a 6 foot quenn anne snooker table for the non existent massive games room that my house has! Thats when I know i've done something with my life, when I have a room with a snooker table in it! I don't just hope for what I can't have in this shop, I slowly build up my collection before getting the table, at the moment I have bought a snooker cue, some chalk, a triangle (yes, thats right, even though I don't have a table I have a triangle!) and a cue ball! The cue is incredible, has such a smooth action and the wieght is just so heavy that I can have power without loosing any cue control.

The clientele is a bit of a mixture. On one hand there is the traditional old leering men in the corner drinking local Ale. And on the other hand there is the young, vibrant folk from the Hospital. I shouldn't knit pick too much, really, The Ship does what a pub should - you can relax with a beer just fine. The toilets are clean now as well and its generally a bit more welcoming. So, really it's a good pub, just one that's not quite sure about what sort of pub it is.
