On the outskirts of the downtown area, park easily on the street (or behind) and find yourself at a local husband and wife owned distillery. Here, you will find the real deal. Plentiful bourbon selection, owners who understand booze and make it too, peanuts, comfortable seating, friendly locals who care, great music, events, proximity to local events downtown, and access to delicious eats. And reasonable drinks! No longer are we going to pay $17 for our old fashioneds. We have found the place and it is here. Try the Mike's Old Fashioned, then walk out to the back patio, have a smoke, or cross the green space and find yourself at New Ales with delicious pizza. We hadn't decided on dinner yet and my friend recommended we stay and eat because she loved the food - I am glad that I took her suggestion. Our waitress, Margaret, was friendly at first--but unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. We waited 45 minutes for our starter and an hour and a half for our entrée. What made it more frustrating was watching nearby tables--many seated after us--receive their meals, finish, and even turn over while we were still waiting. We finally left around 7:30 p.m., feeling very disappointed. The food at Cooper's Hawk is consistently excellent, which is why this experience was so discouraging. There were also billing issues: I had a birthday reward and several wine bottles through my membership available, yet the wine was still charged to our bill and the birthday reward wasn't applied until I pointed it out. Although part of it was corrected, we still ended up paying for the bottle that should have been included. We usually enjoy wonderful visits here, and Cooper's Hawk remains one of my favorite restaurants.
