Hanover Winery is a quaint local winery in the Butler County area, located just outside of Hamilton, OH in the countryside. The area is quiet, the sounds of local wildlife filling the air- birds chirping, frogs croaking, trees rustling. The grounds are centered around a small pond, with outdoor benches, tables, a small pavilion as well as a pergola. The parking at Hanover Winery is just a simple gravel lot, with a small entrance between the trees to gain access to this establishment. Sophia and I discovered this place at the Oxford Beer and Wine Festival in May 2025. They were serving so many different types of wine, it was hard to pick one. Sophia tried the Dammit Annie! , a sweet and rich blackberry wine. Sophia loved the taste, and said we will need to get a bottle. Fast forward to today, June 14th, 2025. Sophia and I make our way out to the winery. It's warm outside, very high humidity. As we get out of the car, we are greeted with the wonderful sounds of nature. We make our way through the trees, following the walkway up to the main building. The main building is a pole barn, with barrels lining the walls, a cooler with wines and beers, as well as slushee machines. We were greeted by three workers, all of which were pleasant, inviting, and easy to talk to. We explained to them how we discovered their winery and they thanked us for coming out. We ordered our bottle of wine and also got two stemless wine glasses to commemorate the outing. We are now sitting under the pavilion, enjoying the weather despite how muggy it is, sipping on this delicious wine, and enjoying reconnecting with nature. The only downside to this winery is that it is located off of a two lane country road, so you occasionally hear the loud sounds of vehicles as they zip by. The Dammit Annie! is a very sweet wine, something that would work best a dessert wine. It smells of rich, ripe blackberries. The first thing you taste is the sweetness as well as tartness of blackberries. This flavor coats the whole palette. The flavor isn't long lasting, and as it fades you begin to taste it almost get more sour and drier. The wine leaves a pleasant aftertaste of blackberries, reminding me of blackberry jams I would make with my family in the summer. Overall, I would recommend checking out this beautiful winery. I know Sophia and I will be coming back for their food as well as the live music they have. read more

My friend and I decided to visit after work in September. Weather was perfect so we purchased a bottle to share by the pond. The proprietor stopped to see how our tasting was going and proceeded to engage in talking politics. He was so rude it just destroyed our nice day. I personally will never return. As for the wines, they are ok. If in a wine store I wouldn't purchase them off the shelf. The new pizza oven is very impressive and the pizza was very good, but when you're rude to customers it doesn't matter if your products are good. read more

I have been coming to this winery since they basically opened. I know the owners very well. Great people! The wines are the best that you will find in southwestern Ohio. From their Hanover red to the dammit Annie to an amazing Cabernet Sauvignon. They offer live music quite frequently, a wine festival that features their sangria, both in red and peach And more. This winery located a short distance from downtown Hamilton and located in an attractive rural setting. We went for an evening that had live music. You can bring your own lawn chairs (they also have limited tables and chairs). What a relaxing way to enjoy local wine and music. They also have beer (craft and domestic) and bourbon available. We stopped in on Saturday a little after 4 pm. I was excited to do a tasting and relax before their Saturday night music stuff started. (We did not want to stay for the music) Unfortunately, even though the band wasn't even scheduled until 6, we had to pay a $5 cover, regardless if we were staying or not. Kind of a confusing set up, as you try to find where to go to get wine. Which was around the corner at a garage door. And of course, they wouldn't allow me to do a tasting. They ended tastings at 4 because they have a band coming (at 6). Smh. I did not see this anywhere on their Facebook page or website. So we each got a glass of wine. Both blackberry variations, so very sweet wine. They were decent. No complaints on taste. We weren't allowed inside, it was closed. They have about 6 picnic tables spread out on the grass. There was one available, so we sat there and drank our wine. It was 90 degrees, so it was difficult lol. There is also a food truck. You definitely need to bring your own chairs, because like I said there are only a few picnic tables. Which is wild to me, because there are no tables for you to sit your wine on (unless you bring that too) and with a food truck there, how would you comfortably eat? Wine by the glass is overpriced. $8 for a pour in a plastic cup. So for two glasses of wine (total) and the cover fee for the two of us, we paid $30. Not worth it. Hanover Winery has been in business since 2009 and located in Hamilton, Ohio outside of Cincinnati. Beautiful view of the Ohio farm/field and you drive to the back to park. I love the tasting room. It's very cozy and decorated simple. The woman who helped us was really down to earth and knowledgeable on their wines. The tasting is $7.00 which you choose 7 wines from the list and you get to keep their logo wine glass. This is what I tried: -Cabernet Sauvignon-Oak barrel aged, soft tannins, aromas of dark fruits and vanilla. $18.00 R.S. 1.5% -Marquette- An excellent ruby red wine, grandson to the Pinot Noir grape. $18.00 R.S. 0.5% -Chambourcin-A complex red wine with rich dark fruit flavors, oak aged. $13.99 R.S. 1.0% -Black Dahlia- Merlot Blackberry, dark and delicious. $16.50 R.S. 0.5% -Baco Noir- a bold dry red with layers of plum and vanilla flavors, oak barrel aged. $17.00 R.S. 1.0% -Marechal Foch- Spicy notes, medium oak. $12.99 R.S. 1.0% -Riesling-Dry with fruity notes, aromas of apples and pears $12.99 R.S. 0.5% New Release I like that they put the percentage on R.S (sugar content) on the list. I like my wines extra dry so it helps. My favorites are the Chambourcin and the Riesling (bought these two). The Baco Noir and Marechal Foch was also good! Hanover Winery also does events and hosts a Farmer's Market (promoting local fresh produce and products). Make sure to check out the website on dates. They also welcome private groups and outdoor parties if you want to reserve a spot. The whole experience was great and the wines was excellent! I definately recommend you come here. read more

Very nice venue - open area around a pond. They had a food truck and were going to start live music. Unlikely that we would return because we did not like any for the 6+ wines we tasted. It cost us each $15 ($30 total). We left promptly and Disappointed. read more

Hanover Winery really surprised me. I went out to check them out as a potential venue for a birthday party. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I was surprised. First, the property is beautiful. The winery is both an active winery and the owner's home. They have a beautiful pond and plenty of trees and shade. The grounds are well kept and maintained. The wine tasting room is upscale and more like what you would see in an upper-scale venue. The owners and their staff are polite and helpful, and they create a wonderful place to visit. As a party venue, I think it works. We had my wife's birthday party at the winery on a Saturday night when they had live music. The music was good, and the volume was at a reasonable level to where you could hear it, but where you didn't have to shout over it to have a conversation. Picnic tables are on a first-come, first served basis, but they offered to set up a table or two for us since we were having a party if the picnic table we captured had not been enough. The owners encourage you to bring in your own food, but they ask that there are no coolers or outside drinks brought in. They were even kind enough to run a tab for the evening, which I have not seen at a lot of wineries. As for the wine, most of it is on the sweeter end of the scale. I love the cherry, the concord, and the Niagra. My wife is partial to Unleashed, which is a sweet Riesling-like wine that has raspberry in it as well. Wine tastings are only $5 for 6 tastes, which is more than reasonable. Of course, I recommend trying all of the wines, as most of them were quite good. I look forward to returning some weekend in the future to listen to some music and enjoy some wine. read more

Let me begin by stating that before we were even officially at the tasting room, a staff person (perhaps the owner?) came out and told us "no dogs" while we were on the lawn near where we parked the car. Not only was this "policy" not posted, but this dog is also a SERVICE ANIMAL. By law, service animals must be allowed at businesses. Rather than make a big deal about his attitude, we chose to respond with "okay" and turned around to go back to our car since we already hadn't received a warm welcome. He then continued to FOLLOW us and make comments about the dog. We then said, "yes we understand, we are leaving" and he continued to follow us. We had a couple empty Starbucks cups in our hands and when he noticed these he said "outside drinks aren't allowed"...which was a moot point since we were already leaving. I understand about the outside drinks, so I nicely let him know they were empty and we were just looking for a trash but that we'd be taking them with us. He then launched into a story about how people "sneak in vodka in water bottles" and made more comments about our dog. I let him know that we were leaving (STILL), all while we are continuing to walk to our car, and that we won't be back. He then made a comment about my "attitude" all while I was on the retreat, leaving, and responding to his comments. To say the least, we won't be back (ever), and suggest you don't go either. Never have I EVER encountered a more judgmental, mean, and downright rude proprietor of a business. Unfortunately for this business, we were actually scouting winery locations for a tour series we are putting together. So, looks like lost business for these folks. read more

I've been to Hanover many times and they have so many good wines. Even though I've been several times, I almost always do a tasting because I have such a hard time deciding on a bottle for the night. The tasting room is rather small and can get crowded at times. In the summer, you can buy a bottle and sit outside. In the winter, they open up their storage room so you can sit in there. Again, it can get rather crowded and they sometimes have live bands which makes it really loud as well. Occasionally, they'll have a good truck come but you can always bring your own food. Something to keep in mind though, you're not allowed to bring any drinks on property. They sell soda and (I believe) bottled water. There are picnic tables outside but I recommend brining a chair. Be mindful of the time. The owner doesn't like to stay open even a few minutes after they're closed. This can be frustrating because they'll sell you a bottle of wine 45 minutes or less before closing and I guess they expect you to finish it in record time! If you're looking for a quite, cozy and delicious winery, Hanover is the place. read more

Returning from Cincinnati's Findlay Market on the back roads, we noticed a small winery sign on the side of the road. My parents are interested in local wineries and decided to stop. When we pulled into the Hanover Winery drive, we were told that there was an anniversary party taking place that evening, and there was going to be live music, food, and, of course, wine-tasting. I was accompanied by my parents and my son. At the entrance, a hostess asked if my son was 21. I told them that he was not even close to 21 and she indicated that she had been carding people quite a bit. At no time did we indicate that my son would be participating in any wine-tasting (he hates the taste of alcohol). They pointed us toward the winery and told us that if we decided to participate in the tasting, we could pay inside. Once in the winery, we were charged 30 dollars for entry for four people and tasting for two. My mother and I participated in some wine tasting. From there, my son and I went and sat next to a pond on the winery's property. My complimentary glass was empty and we were simply sitting there. The owner of the property approached us, asked if my son was 21, and then proceeded to tell us we'd have to leave his property. He was, in my opinion, incredibly rude and we were, to say the least, very embarrassed. When he realized that my parents were inside the winery purchasing a case of his wine, he got chummy and explained how having a minor on the property could jeopardize his license and cause his business to be shut down and his products to pulled from local shelves. Although I knew that his claims were contrary to state law, I simply decided to leave the winery with my son and suggested that my parents do the same. My son actually decided to question the owner about the legality of his claims. The owner came clean and said that he had lied to us as it was easier to get us to leave his property. He then told my son to leave his property. My son is a clean cut kid, wears nice clothes, and is very respectful. He's the kind of kid that is usually asked to stay, not leave. With all of that being said, let's get down to the wine! Regardless of our bad personal experiences with the owner, I do want to share my opinion of the wines we tasted. Honestly, these are mediocre tasting wines that rely on the novelty of being local and accessible. Much of the novelty wine tasted sickly sweet to me, with supplemental flavors. The drier wines had potential but seemed early, juicy, and somewhat flabby. If at a local market, I certainly would not choose a Hanover over an established label at a similar price point if looking at more serious wine. If novelty wines are your bag, Boone's Farm may be a better choice than some of the Hanover offerings. If the comfort of visiting a local winery is what draws you to Hanover, I would submit that this has a "locals-only" feel and unless you are a part of the local family, or a Hamilton resident, this winery is probably worth a skip. I'd just like to add that customer service is important. A proprietor's disregard for his or her customers can taint even the finest goods. read more

We have been going to Hanover Winery since we moved to the area. Beth and Eddie are big dog lovers and they hold a fund raiser to give money to the local rescue centers in the tri-state area and they had service dogs at one time and they would work them with the kids at Ronald McDonald house and other nursing homes in the tri-state. We like going any time we can, to enjoy their wines, many of them have won metals in competitions all over the place. I'm sure you will find one that will suit your pallet. They have fund raising events for breast cancer that they put on. It is a great time with the bands. Beth and Eddie have always made my family and me feel very welcome. I have read some of the comments on the page and we, at first, didn't understand the no beverage thing, but then we have been there when people were found to have beer, outside wine, pop with whisky in it and the person was asked to leave. The thing about it is that you can't take your beer into Wendy's, you can't take your outside pop into the local steak house, and you can't just show up with your animals at any place you feel like it. I think that the people that own and operate the winery do a great job in making every one feel welcome. We also own a company that hosts events, we know that leading up to that and during the event it is sometimes nerve racking. I believe that when you go to Hanover Winery you will have a great time and meet good people. read more
