When having my second implant done, Dr Kim incorrectly inserted my IV causing pain all down my arm and keeping me from going to sleep. When I tried to alert him to this he told me to "shut up" or I would "ruin his good work." leaving me awake and in pain for the remainder of the procedure. The only saving grace was the nurse who put the gas mask on me every chance she got, leading to me telling myself I was just a car at the mechanic so the drilling into my face was standard procedure. I am still traumatised by this experience, leaving me shaking and crying for even the most basic dental cleanings. I have sat on this review of his horrible bedside manor wanting to believe he had at least been successful with a difficult case of an implant but now that I am having to spend time, money, and revisit trauma to have it removed it is more clear than ever Dr Kim cares more about his ego than his patients. DO. NOT. RECOMMEND.

I went to Dr. Cohen as a teenager (about 12 years ago). Yelp wasn't even in existence at that…read moretime. Normally, I would never go back this far to write a review on someone but my experience with Dr. Cohen was so unforgettable that I had to share this story. And being transparent.... I was one of the people that told the poster S.H. to switch! So... my story: Dr. Cohen came to my dentist's office to remove my wisdom teeth. I have never been to his actual office. Shortly after having my wisdom teeth removed, I began vomiting and could not keep any food down. I ended up with dry sockets that were very painful. My mom immediately called Dr. Cohen's office to ask them what to do. Dr. Cohen's response was... "what do you want me to do about it?" Now obviously, I can't convey a tone in text, but my mom's definition is curt and rude! My regular dentist was her next phone call. He immediately had me come in to pack the sockets but he wasn't sure what was going wrong. After a few days of crying and losing 10 lbs, I ended up in the emergency room. Now, do I expect Dr. Cohen to have all the answers... no. But if you have a client that is having complications after a surgery that you performed, you at least owe them the courtesy of pretending like you care and trying to help them. Needless to say, no one in our family has returned to his services and I'm glad that S.H. finally found someone that could address her needs in a professional and gentle way.

For many different reasons I ultimately decided to switch doctors half way thru my treatment with…read moreDr. Cohen. While there were many little things that led up to my final decision, the main reasons were 1) Dr. Cohen does not guarantee his implants. Before surgery you sign a paper saying that if the implant fails for any reason you are out the money and you have to pay to do it all over again. My new doctor guarantees his implants 100%, if it fails 10 times you only pay for the first one. 2) As time went on, more and more stories were popping up from other people that used him and were very unsatisfied, similar to the things that I was unhappy about. Friends and strangers told us they would not recommend him... so I knew it wasn't just me being hard to please. That's the brief version. A little more details for those interested: My general dentist is awesome! He and his entire office take excellent care of me. So when I had a few bad experiences at Dr. Cohen's office I thought maybe my other dentist was just extraordinary and Dr. Cohen was standard. Now that I have switched to a new oral surgeon I know that it was crazy for me to ever try to justify the things that happened there, it's not 'standard'. Dr. Cohen has less than adequate bedside manner. Sometimes he was very nice and sometimes he was down right rude, he actually snapped at me more than once. The day of my surgery I was visibly upset and nervous, his assistants offered zero comfort, not a single one of them offered a kind word or a gentle hand on the shoulder (which is normal protocol at my other dentist). I've never experienced such a cold group of medical professionals anywhere. Poor communication. There were multiple instances where the doctor or his staff told me something and then someone else told me different. One woman even told me "no one would've told you that." Umm, really? Some of his girls are very nice but one in particular is a little feisty and had a tendency to be rude. They quoted a price for the consultation and then charged more claiming he spent extra time with me. Quoted me a price for the surgery over the phone but left out some fees and I was charged almost double what I thought it would be. Wait time. For every visit except one I waited for no less than 30 minutes. For my consultation, I waited 30 minutes in the wait room and then another 30 minutes in the exam room (and then he charged more because HE spent extra time with me, which didn't seem like much time to begin with). The day of surgery we waited for an hour or more. Even though I paid for anesthesia I was awake and remember too much of my procedure, which is a stark contrast to my next procedure with the new dentist where I paid much less for anesthesia and was out cold. At one point in the procedure, Dr. Cohen was putting gauze over my throat; because I don't breathe good through my nose and the mask they had on me made me a little stuffed up, I instinctively started pushing it back with my tongue. Without asking if I was okay or anything, he acted annoyed and started shoving it back in, I had to fight to tell him "I can't breathe!" When I went back to get my stitches out he assured me it wouldn't hurt, when he started pulling I almost jumped out of the chair, he told me he accidentally pulled from the wrong end... he was trying to pull the knot through my gums (oops). Believe it or not, I could go on but I'll stop. In closing though, I think it's very important for all medical staff to remember that, while they see this stuff everyday, this is likely the most traumatic thing that's ever happened in their patient's life and it should be treated as such.

I'm so glad I ended up hunting down Dr. Iero. I wasn't referred to him by my regular dentist…read morebecause my regular dentist wanted to do the extraction but I wasn't comfortable with that so I started looking for an oral surgeon specifically. I was diagnosed with a cracked tooth which caused an infection and extraction of the tooth was going to be the best option. During my consult the office did a really cool scan/xray thing and actually ended up being diagnosed without anyone ever even looking in my mouth which I thought was super cool. The office is also nice and clean which got huge bonus points from me since I can be really sensitive to smells. The extraction took like 20 minutes total and I'm not going to say it was a walk in the park because- someone ripped my tooth out of my face but it actually was painless. Even the shots were so magically well done. One of the nurses/assistants (IDK what they are) told me at the start that she was going to put numbing agent where he would do the shots and just never came back so he did the shots without them and I literally couldn't feel them. I had just had a filling the week before and it felt like the dentist was shooting acid in my face so for Dr. Iero to be able to give me a shot IN THE ROOF OF MY MOUTH without any real discomfort was pretty impressive to me. He also walked me through what he was doing and explained what might happen. When my cap broke off I didn't panic because the doc had given me a heads up. And at the end they gave me a care package of things that I didn't even think to need. If I can give any advice to anyone seeing Dr. Iero though it would be- absolutely do not be late. On the day of the procedure Houston got some heavy rain and drivers were freaking out as they do so while I allowed myself 20 minutes of travel time for the 10 minute drive, I ended up being late and the doc was SUPER obvious about his annoyance. He wasn't angry as much as like disappointed parent mode and he mentioned it not once but twice. I also hate people who are late and I hate being late so I totally understood the annoyance but just allow yourself the extra time. I would still recommend him 10 out of 10 times because of how well he did. If you're that skilled you can be particular- those are the rules lol all in all this was a very positive experience given that i lost a tooth. I'll see him again in a few months for the rest of the process and if (god forbid) I have to get another extraction I will 100% come back to Bellaire facial, oral, and dental implant surgery.
