I recently went in to Dr. Cohen's office for a consultation for my wisdom teeth. The reception staff was very nice and helpful. I had many questions regarding my dental insurance and they were very patient with me. During the initial visit, my x-rays were done very quickly and without any discomfort. Once I was in Dr. Cohen's examination room, which has a fabulous view of Rice University, I was introduced to a very polite and friendly Dr. Cohen. Dr. Cohen patiently explained to me that in my case, it was beneficial to have all four of my wisdom teeth removed in one session, why it was beneficial, the estimated cost of the procedure and what costs my insurance covered. He also recommended some medications that would help with recovery even though they were not covered by my dental insurance. He was very upfront and clear about costs with me. I scheduled the procedure for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to take advantage of the Thanksgiving break from work and Dr. Cohen and his staff accommodated my request. Dr. Cohen discussed pre operative procedures and post operative procedures with me and gave me written recommendations as well. The day of the procedure, I was also introduced to a short video discussing post operative recommendations for a speedy recovery and how to avoid infections and other complications. The procedure went without a flaw. I was given sedatives through an IV and felt no discomfort at all. After what seemed only a few minutes, Dr. Cohen was done and I felt like I had woken up from a restful nap. I was taken into another room to be monitored for about 30 minutes before I was able to leave. I felt very cared for. That evening, Dr. Cohen himself called me to check up on me. This is the very reason I am giving Dr. Cohen 5 stars. It is his direct patient care that I found so impressive. I am very glad I opted to pay for the recovery medications because my face did not swell up in the slightest. I felt very little discomfort after my procedure. I even went out to dinner with some friends that same day. I have heard some horror stories from family and friends of when they had their wisdom teeth removed and I can happily say, I had the best experience with my wisdom teeth removal. My post operative visit also went smoothly. I had no infections and the incisions are healing nicely. Dr. Cohen even gave me some tools to help with thorough cleaning after eating. I highly recommend Dr. Cohen and his staff and will continue to recommend him to my family and friends. My experience with Dr. Cohen was awesome! He and his entire office took excellent care of me before, during and after the procedure. I had been to a 'chain' dental office but when it was determined that I needed my wisdom teeth removed (December 2013), I knew I would not be using their travelling Oral surgeon. I asked friends and family member for recommendations and the overall response was Dr. Cohen. The staff set my appointment and verified my insurance well before my consultation date. The staff made sure that any prior authorization was taken care of, so there were no surprises. Having filled out all my paperwork prior to the consultation, my time in the waiting room was at most ten minutes. Once I was in the exam room, one of his dental assistants went over the my file and took x-rays. Dr. Cohen was with me within ten minutes. Considering the size of his practice, I didn't think this was out of the ordinary. He was pleasant and professional. After his examination, he explained the procedure and what I should expect. He answered my questions, calmed my nerves, and never made me feel as if I was wasting his time. The day of the of the procedure, I arrived and was back in the surgical suite in less than ten minutes. After the prep work was completed, Dr. Cohen again explained the procedure and started IV sedation. This option that was not covered fully by my insurance but I was aware of the additional costs and gladly accepted the charge. After the procedure, I was moved to a room to wait for the anesthesia to wear off. Without having to ask or remind the staff, my aftercare prescription was phoned to the pharmacy downstairs and was ready for my to pickup. Dr. Cohen came by and checked on me one final time and explained the precautions I needed to take to avoid getting Dry Sockets. A few days later, an dental assistant called to check on my condition and called a refill for my pain medication. I am sure that every person's experience is different and every scenario can have different outcomes, but my experience with Dr. Cohen and his staff was nothing short of extraordinary. Dr Cohen was F a n t a s t i c and we recommend him highly. My husband had advanced, large mandibular tori removal surgery along with one wisdom tooth extraction at the same time. Dr Cohen did a great job and the final result is a huge success, resolving a painful mouth issue. After reading a negative review on this site, I was concerned and went with my husband to his consultation....I was impressed with the doctor's manner and knowledge, very comfortable with his bedside manner and we were both impressed with his experience, patience and communication skills . Dr Cohen addressed all of our concerns and put both of us at ease before a complex medical procedure. My husband was especially concerned out about pain levels post procedure. Dr Cohen was realistic and empathetic, telling him that there would be some discomfort but that it was normal and could be controlled with medication management and proper food choices etc. As an individual with dental anxiety, I feel that Dr Cohen was personal, professional and did an outstanding job. Staying on top of the pain medication from the get-go was key and my husband never experienced any real discomfort. The most challenging thing was having to eat soft food for so long, but it paid off. My husband is relieved to have this procedure (that he put off for two years) in the rear view mirror and he is thrilled with the outcome. He went back to have his stitches out and said the appointment was great, and he just returned from his second post surgery follow up and asked me to write a glowing review for him. My review is based on my recent visit to Dr. Cohen's office for the removal of all four of my wisdom teeth. I'll start by saying that I am terrified of any type of dental work even a simple cleaning freaks me out, so you can just imagine how I felt about dental surgery. So I explained that to the staff before hand and they did everything they could to ease my anxiety so my visit would be pleasant. From the moment I walked into the office everyone was very pleasant to deal with. Everything was explained to me and didn't have to wait long in the waiting room. Went on back to the room and sat down in the dental chair wondering how bad is this going be? Like I said, I'm terrified of any dental work and if I was kid I promise I would have peed myself in the chair. But that didn't happen. Dr. Cohen walked nice as could be talked to me, and had me take some breaths of "magic potion" and that's all I remember. Next thing I know I woke up and Dr. Cohen said "we're all done" I replied "that's it?!? you took out all four?!?" He said "yeah all four." I was so happy and relieved!! I received some discharge instructions and went home. Unfortunately with my luck I developed a dry socket on one side a couple of days later. I called the office and told them I was in pain and they had me go in that day!!...didn't have to make an appointment or anything!! Dr. Cohen and his staff are awesome!! I recently visited Dr. Cohen for major oral surgery and my experience was nothing short of receiving excellent service beginning from his front desk staff to his nurses and he himself. I originally met Dr. Cohen through a referral from my general dentist. I initially was worried about going elsewhere to a new dentist because I've had one dentist for several years. Upon meeting Dr. Cohen at the consultation and him explaining my procedure thoroughly and going over each detail of how the procedure would go, I knew immediately I had been referred to the perfect oral surgeon for me. Fast forward two weeks to the day of the surgery, I was nervous and Dr. Cohen assured me that everything would be okay. His nurse was very nice in prepping and comforting me and before I knew it I was asleep from the anesthesia. Hours later, I woke up to minimum pain and later healed normally as he assured me that I would. Oral surgeries are painful, I mean you just can't change that (all surgeries are a bit uncomfortable). Nonetheless, I recommend Dr. Cohen to perform your surgery because you will be in good hands with him. He's very knowledgeable at what he does. Present day, my mouth is healing good as planned. I've seen Dr. Cohen twice since the surgery for my follow-up appointments. Each time he has been extremely professional, kind & very informative. Dr. Cohen gets 5 stars from me. I went to Dr. Cohen starting 2 years ago on the referral of my general dentist. I have a major defect in my bone and gum line located in my upper front teeth that will require bone graphing,major reconstruction with two implants. I'm also in the need of an additional implant on the bottom right side. As of today I have completed my 5th procedure. Dr. Cohen has been nothing but professional , dedicated and a perfectionist to the procedures. Dr. Cohen with his staff from the front, his operating tech's has been friendly, patient, explained all procedures and have been there whenever I've needed them. If you need oral surgery and you're in Houston, this is the place to come. Dr. Cohen and his new associate, Dr. Dauterive, will do an amazing job for you. The office staff is super friendly and nice and go out of their way to accommodate. Both of my kids had all four of their wisdom teeth taken out here and had super excellent results. On one occasion, the waiting room was very chilly and the staff brought me a heated blanket while I waited. That was heavenly and a kind gesture I will never forget. It's clear that Dr. Cohen has a good rapport with his staff because they all seem to be happy, helpful and skilled at their jobs. There's just a good energy here. Drs. I can't say enough wonderful things about the experience I received as a patient of Dr. Cohen. My husband and I are both patients and we had great results. I am extremely surprised that there are a few bad reviews on here, because is one of the best doctors I have ever seen, and has a wonderful bedside manner. I went in to have my wisdom teeth taken out, and I was very nervous about having this procedure done. He and his staff were so sweet and made me feel like I was in wonderful hands. My experience with Dr. Cohen was so amazing I have referred so many of my family and friends! I went in to have my wisdom teeth pulled out and even though I am not a kid I was pretty nervous. As soon as I walked in the door the staff treated me like family and made me feel at ease. Once I got to the back to have my procedure Dr. Cohen and staff explained what was going to be done in detail also what to expect. He was very gentle and made sure I felt and was doing ok every step of the process, it was not as bad as I thought and felt great overall. Dr. Cohen and staff could not have done more for my daughter. Not only was Dr. Cohen the ONLY oral surgeon to completely explain the procedure but explained WHY it was imperative to have it done. The other oral surgeons we met with treated it very lightly and were very casual about the procedure. Dr. Cohen addressed my daughter (16) directly. He didn't just talk to me about the procedure details but actually acknowledged her and showed her the issue while reviewing her x-rays. My sisters and I have been visiting Dr. Cohen since we were in elementary school. He has now pulled a total of 19 teeth out of my mouth, 15 when I was in the fourth grade and 4 wisdom teeth last week, so I'd say he has made a pretty big impact in my life. I had a very smooth successful experience getting my wisdom teeth pulled recently. He worked speedily and the nurse treated me with care while I recovered.
