My story is mainly about Awareness, Advisement, Cost and a real recent repair that I had done to my car by this shop on my 2006 Toyota Avalon in Dec of 2022. The starter on my Vehicle wasn't working right. I brought it to Quins for a brand new replacement. As an awareness, pricing around for a 2006 Avalon Starter replacement is under 180.00. Pretty much all mechanics will "Mark" Up that price with an additional $100.00 to 200.00 dollars then tack that on to labor costs. In my case my starter replacement and labor somehow shot up to $500.00 BUCKS at Quins? After barked a while on the phone with the mechanic on that amount being ridiculous the mechanic tried to come back with another ridiculous indication that he had to go through the manifold to get to the starter. This is why one should know their car, this is because my old mechanic changed my starter many years ago before this replacement at Quins and never had to go through the manifold to get to the starter. Matter or fact he did the job right in front of me by getting it underneath. The labor on my starter was not even close to an hour not even close to 30 mins, and I got my answer on how long the job took when i calibrated my digital car clock to the exact time of the day. This is because a lot of mechanics do the job of replacing a starter by disconnecting the battery and after I reset the clock in my car it was off by only 20 mins to me indicating the real time it took to do the job. So as an Advisement, cut your overall cost by buying the part first then have Quins put it in because then you'd only be paying for the labor. Let me conclude by saying that I think the mechanic realized he got caught in a mix up and dropped the price by 100.00 bucks when normally this job should have ended as a $300.00 and under price for my job. Between a rock and a hard place I need my car for work I paid $400.00. So yeah I would recommend Quins if I had to get something fixed on my car but note they can BE VERY EXPENSIVE if they have to get the part instead of you. Most mechanics don't want the customer to come in with the part so they can mark up the price on the part, but Quins thankfully doesn't do that offering the customer a bit more savings on the bill. I showed up on a Saturday morning, hoping to just get an opinion about a brake issue so I could schedule an appointment for another day. I had been forewarned by a friend who is a self-declared car expert that this was going to be a major, costly job. In the end, I drove out of there after two hours with brand new rotors and pads, no more squealing from my wheels, and only a small dent in my bank account. As an "older" guy (like me), Tom is from a generation that truly appreciates the concept of holding on to cars, electronics, and other things for as long as they provide good service. Many other mechanics would have scoffed at me for still driving a 2011 Honda Element, making excuses for why they couldn't make my brakes stop catching and squealing ("You have to expect that from a 14-year-old car, sir"), but Tom treated my never-been-washed Element like it was a 2025 BMW. He's a very sociable guy, so I enjoyed chatting with him while he was working. Some might say he actually provides TOO much information, but I really appreciated how he explained everything he was doing, as it was pretty much implied from the beginning that the fix, as confident as he seemed, wasn't a 100% sure-shot. In the end, this relatively simple process of maintenance turned out to be a success, and I think he was as happy and relieved as I was. There are very few mechanics - including dealerships - that I have ever used more than once, but I will definitely be returning to Tom's for whatever my Element needs in the future.

1-Star Review…read more Extremely disappointing experience -- think twice before working here or trusting this shop with your vehicle. I'm writing this as a former employee who genuinely came to this shop ready to work hard and do my job. I'm a husband and father who was working to provide for my family, and I always tried to keep God first, treat people with respect, and give customers the best service I could. I showed up early, worked hard, and made sure customers were getting in and out. I wasn't hired to be somebody's personal helper or to simply agree with everything another employee said. I was hired as a mechanic, and I take pride in my work. Unfortunately, one employee, Manny, seemed to have an issue with me from the beginning. I felt like I was constantly being treated disrespectfully and expected to act like a yes-man instead of being allowed to do my job as a technician. If I disagreed with something or had a different opinion, it wasn't welcomed. What really disappointed me was management's response. Rather than hearing both sides and recognizing the work I was doing, my boss chose to take Manny's side and let me go. I actually have the text messages from my former boss confirming that Manny told him I wasn't right for what he was looking for and that he was letting me go. That's what makes this experience so frustrating. I wasn't fired because I didn't want to work. I was working. I wasn't fired because I didn't care about customers. I cared about them. I was fired because I wasn't willing to let another employee push me around or treat me like a dog. As far as my experience with Manny as a technician, I also witnessed things that concerned me. There were situations where sensors were unplugged and parts were being changed without what I considered proper diagnosis first. In my opinion, that's how customers end up paying for parts they may not have needed. A good mechanic should diagnose the problem, test the system, and then replace what's actually defective--not just throw parts at a problem. Manny also seemed unwilling to listen to another technician's opinion. Everything had to be done his way, and shortcuts seemed more important than proper diagnosis. I know the mechanic I am. I know how hard I worked. And I know the way I treated customers. Losing this job isn't what bothers me most. What bothers me is seeing a hardworking husband and father who was trying to provide for his family get thrown away because management would rather keep one employee happy than recognize another employee's hard work. I wish the owner and the shop the best, but my experience taught me that being a hardworking, respectful employee doesn't mean much if management has already chosen sides. Customers deserve proper diagnosis. Employees deserve respect. I wrote a detailed work order/plan, including a request for photos of the differential magnet, pan and gears for present condition reference (and this was done without any issue). The jobs were completed neatly, within estimated times (based on book times which I had read prior to bringing my 2013 GMC Savana van in). The price was well within normal expectations, both for the time and for the local area. I confirmed the work afterwards by examining the brake and power steering fluids, noting the work area under my hood clean and neat around the fluid storage sections. I also noted that, without asking, they filled my windshield washer fluid. Nice touch. :) I was promptly called when the job was finished and found my van doors locked when arriving, believe it or not something that too many stations fail to do. I was pleased with the work and feel lucky to have such a professional service station so close to my home.
