Overall, EOS Fitness in Whittier is a decent gym that gets the job done, but there are definitely…read moresome things that could be improved. The staff can be welcoming and helpful, but depending on the day, they can also come across as less friendly or approachable. My bigger issue, though, is the gym etiquette from some of the members. I notice a lot of people don't wipe down their sweat after using benches or equipment, and some don't rerack their weights when they're finished. There was actually one situation where a guy finished his workout, left the bench covered in his sweat, and walked away. I politely asked him, "Hey, are you done with this?" He just stared at me and walked away without saying anything or wiping down the bench. Like, come on, dude. Talk about being a jerk. It takes a few seconds to wipe down the equipment after you're done using it. I also wish people were more aware of their surroundings when recording themselves. If you're filming a workout, that's fine, but getting annoyed because someone happens to walk behind you or needs to walk through the area to rerack weights is unnecessary. The gym is a shared space, not a personal studio. Be aware that other people are trying to work out too. Another major issue is how overcrowded it can get, especially around 4:00 a.m. I'm sometimes like, "Damn, it's this crowded already?" The gym has a lot of equipment, but when it's packed, getting to the equipment or dumbbells you actually want can feel like navigating an obstacle course. You might have to go around multiple people, benches, machines, or weights just to get to the equipment you're trying to use. That being said, I do like the gym overall. It has plenty of equipment and it gets the job done. I just think better gym etiquette from members, a little more awareness when filming, and better management of the crowded areas would make the experience much better.

I signed up hoping for a solid gym experience, but the reality didn't match what was presented. The…read moregym is consistently overcrowded, no matter what time you go. Getting access to basic equipment is a struggle, and the "bring a friend" perk only adds to the congestion. It's hard to get through a workout without long waits. I also wasn't offered any type of trial period before signing up. If I had been, I would've realized the environment wasn't a good fit and avoided this situation altogether. Because of all this, I requested to cancel my membership and asked for the cancellation fee to be waived. The conditions didn't reflect what was advertised, and the lack of a trial made it impossible to make an informed decision. Overall, the experience was disappointing, and I hope the gym takes this feedback seriously

Straight up Fitness is more than a transformation center, they become family because they care and…read moretreat you like family. Michael, the owner, truly cares about every member's well-being. He's always encouraging and motivating and pushes you to be your best. He greets everyone he encounters, and knows everyone's name. This Norwalk location is the flagship gym, and the first to open of the three locations. I've worked out at all locations, and they are great. All of the trainers are fantastic humans! They have the best energy, play great music, and train us very well. I seriously haven't met a trainer I didn't like. Actually, I take that back. When I first started, there was a crazy trainer, but he didn't last and I never saw him again. That's one the best things about SUF, they'll get rid of bad energy and focus on the good. I've joined every weight loss program, gym, boot camp, out there... you name it, I've tried it. None have ever compared to the quality of SUF. I've never been so successful at losing weight, gaining muscle, losing inches, losing fat, in my life! In one year of consistent workouts and counting calories and macros, I've lost over 40 lbs and kept it off. I've dropped 8 dress sizes and it keeps dropping! The difference with SUF and any other program I've done, is that the people care. Not just the employees, but the like-minded friends I've made. Everyone is there, cheering you on, when you think you can't possibly lift any heavier, squat any lower, they're all there, cheering you on. It's amazing! If you join the Elite program, you get access to a nutritionist, or food police, as we call her, who helps you figure out what to eat and what not to eat. The gym also offers a food prep service and it's also amazing! I used it my first 3 months there, until I got the hang of it and was able to prep on my own. At the end of the day, YOU, are accountable for your own being, and YOU, have to want it, in order to stay focused and determined. But, I will tell you, the amount of support you get at Straight Up Fitness, is unlike any other around. Worth every penny, if you a Reach out with questions, and I'll happily answer, from my own experience. If you're in search of looking your best and feeling your best, ever, come to SUF. You will not be disappointed. Trust the process.

Where do I possibly begin?…read more I have so many positive things to say about straight-up fitness! Although, it would probably take me an entire day to go into full detail to tell you why, here is my brief version: Straight up fitness is unlike any other gym...the moment you walk through the front door, you are greeted by the friendly and professional trainers. All of them are extremely knowledgeable about what they do, give great workouts, help you correct your form and give you valuable information to help you reach your fitness goals. The trainers here take the time to get to know you by name, especially the owner, Michael. I really have never met any trainers that are so humbling and inspiring. They definitely LEAD by example. At straight up fitness, you walk in and instantly feel a sense of community. If it isn't the trainers encouraging you to push through the workouts, it's the people around you with similar goals cheering you on! Doesn't matter if it's a stranger you've never met before- SUF promotes a positive community with positive energy! At SUF, you witness so many people walk through the door as they try SUF for the first time and there is no judgement- just SUPPORT! Everyone is cheering each other on! It's the support and community that makes you actually look forward to the trainers, their work outs and the friends you will make while attending! I can say from the bottom of my heart that working out at SUF is the highlight of my day (hence- now I'm going twice a day). Another benefit of Straight up fitness is that they have delicious meal plans, a variety of delicious protein powders and supplements. They also have private training sessions and other programs that can help you meet your individual fitness needs/goals! I am currently doing my first round of their Elite program and couldn't be happier with my results! With Elite, the staff holds you accountable for your nutrition and workouts! The other participants in the program help hold you accountable as well. They're hard work and progress is motivation in itself! I am beyond grateful for Michael, Sonia, all SUF trainers, SUF Norwalk and the community! Thank you for my great work outs and my strong and encouraging friends/fellow participants from SUF! Two months in and I am happy to announce that I've surpassed my original goal in starting this 12 week program! I regret not joining sooner. I am currently down 25+lbs and still counting. You can get results too! TRUST THE PROCESS! You just have start, try SUF&WANT it! Consistency is key! Thank you Michael and everyone at Straight up fitness!

It's been a place where she stays active and connects with other retired members, many of whom have since become dear friends and who share similar interests. For many of them, this class has become an important part of their weekly routine and overall well-being. You can imagine how disappointing it was to learn about the recent changes following the YMCA's partnership with Premier Aquatics and how they have affected both its reputation and longtime members. Adding extra fees for pool use on top of existing membership dues, especially for longtime members, people with disabilities and seniors on fixed incomes, feels predatory, dishonest and is also contrary to what members attending the water aerobics class were initially told. Additionally, there has been a change in class hours and days that the pool could be used. This is not ok. My mom has since found another community pool for exercise and will be cancelling her membership with the Y. Though she was recently told her health insurance would cover the extra fees for pool use, the hassle of having to schedule appointments just to use the pool, along with the limited days available, simply isn't worth it. I truly hope the YMCA listens to its members and finds a reasonable solution. The East Whittier YMCA has meant so much to so many families over the years, and I would hate to see that sense of community diminished over dollars. There would be no YMCA without the people who have supported it for generations, and I hope their voices are heard before it's too late.
