In Wednesdays we wear pink...
Arleene M.

I've been waiting for my one month anniversary to write a review because I want to be sure I am in love with this place and not just in lust (yes, I fall in love easily, don't judge me.) One day, I was perusing Yelp and decided that my fat ass needed to work out because....well, it's fat. I was looking for Zumba classes in my area not necessarily because I like Zumba (I actually kind of hate it) but thought if I was going to die while doing any type of cardio, I may as well be dancing. And that's how I found this place. I've never seen this location so one day, YOLO status, my sister and I went looking for it. It's located on the second floor of another business so you have to drive kinda slow the first time. Thanks to my GPS we found the place no prob, and they have a several signs outside so you know what's up. Already, it felt exclusive. My type of place. We walked in and Eric, the owner was finishing up a session with a client. The gym i is on the smaller side but it has everything it needs. It's clean and very modern looking. After he finished his session, Eric talked about how they work. They specialize in small group classes and (I am not sure if I should write this because I am not sure if they do this for everyone that walks through those doors but whateve's) he offered to give us 3 classes free of charge to see if we liked it. He had a Cross Training class that afternoon and told us to come back and gave us a sheet so we could write what we ate on a daily base. Shit. I hate regular gyms, with their long ass lines to wait for the cardio machines, to the meat heads hogging the weights, to the girls in full makeup and tiny workout clothes just strolling around trying to catch their meal ticket for the weekend. When I go to a gym, I want to workout. Period. When we got there that evening, I was pleasantly surprise to see there were only 3 of us in the class. There was another class going on at the other side of the gym but it was small as well. The reason for this is that there is a cap to their classes to keep them small and personal. You sign up a day or even a few hours before the class (granted it's still open) and you can do it right from an app on your phone. Hell yea! We were assessed and then were put to work. We did circuits which were challenging but didn't kill you. Eric makes sure to modify a move if you can't do the original one to avoid injury. I don't even know how I made it through that class but I did and as much as I hated it while I was doing it, I freaken loved it! He also went over our eating log (which was CRAP) and made suggestions on how to clean up our act. I keep going to this class and I added Cardio Step with Sandy (who I love, she is so sweet!) which has step but she makes us do resistance training as well. There are no membership fees, you pay for the classes you want to go to and can buy them in bundles or pay to go unlimited times to the gym. Yes, it's not $39.99 like it is at 24 Hour Fitness or LA Fitness, but it's like getting a personal trainer that you share with a few other people. There is a sense of camaraderie from all the gym-goers and they make sure to make you feel welcomed at all time (half-dying with people for an hour makes you feel closer to them for some reason. And endorphin's are abundant! Lol!) I am not sure if I have lost weight because I was told a woman shouldn't weigh herself before, during, or after her cycle which leaves no days to weigh in, but I feel my clothes looser AND everyone around me keeps telling me I look good. And I like to believe them. I am not 100% on my eating but I am at 80% which is a vast improvement then when I started. If you are in the area and want to be my workout buddy, by all means, JOIN!

Here's my 8 week update I can't believe this is me !!! I'll be entering my first bikini competition thanks to Eric & Nargiz and can't wait to continue my fitness journey with them!

Back 2 Basics is the best gym in town. All the trainers are amazing! They make you feel very comfortable and are always happy to see us. Sandy has been my trainer for years and she is awesome. I most definitely recommend back 2 Basics, the owners Eric and Nargiz make it feel like family. Love it

Checking to my favorite private gym before I sign in to my 1 hour strength training class. So far I've lost 20lbs in a little over 2 months! The trainers are knowledgeable and encouraging and I look forward to coming here and reaching those weight loss goals!

The space is clean, well run, and set up perfectly for youth training. What stood out most was the environment. It's competitive but still positive, and the kids were always excited to be there. The trainers do a great job keeping things organized while pushing players to work hard and improve. You can tell they care about development, not just running kids through drills. If you're looking for a gym where players can get better, build confidence, and enjoy the process, NXTLVL is a great choice. I've been a member since 2023. If you're reading OTF reviews you're probably considering joining…read moreand contemplating various fitness formats/gyms etc. You've probably viewed some YouTube videos on how the classes work but essentially at this location you have the following formats - 2G, 3G, Tread 50, Strength 50, and I believe like a lot of OTFs trialing Hyrox format. How it works is you sign up for class on their app. Show up. Eat a bunch of free mints. select a station # on the treadmill or rower (2G) or treadmill or rower or weight floor (3G). If you're in a 2G class you're on treadmill for 23 minutes and weights 23 minutes. If you're in a 3G class you're on treadmill for 14 mins, rower 14 mins, and weights 14 mins. Tread 50 you're on the treadmill whole class (approx 40 mins) Strength 50 you're on the weight floor (approx 40 mins) the whole class. The coaches are there to direct the flow and keep you motivated throughout. Everything is tailored to your abilities and injuries. You can walk, jog, run, haul ass on the treadmills. It is a workout for all ages and abilities. Everyone is kind and welcoming from the members to the coaches. I think the most difficult thing will be taking the first step to give it a shot and then to come back. But if you're reading this then you've made the first step in wanting to change some aspect of your life. Now what you need to do is take the free intro class to get a sense of the place. But 1 class is unlikely to give you the full picture of what OTF can become for you. You need to come back and take those baby steps towards changing your habits. It's never easy starting a new thing. But you need to just show up. Even if you just walk on the treadmills or row casually or do body weight training - just show up. Commit to it. Give it a month before you decide. That's the hardest part. Stop making excuses or pushing it off. You have 1 body and 1 life to live so make it the best life. Ignore the naysayers the negativity and take a step towards change. Don't live with regrets and don't let life pass you by. Shout out to the very sweet, kind, and most important fun OTF crew: Hitch,Rocco, Sarah, Meg, Ray, Hannah, Tiffany, Sareena, Carson, Dakota, Alyssa, Alexa, Kamila,Savanah, Jake, Maddy. Most importantly don't forget to eat the free mints.
