We found Boys in the Valpak coupon and took advantage of a whole house electrical inspection. We were able to have our appointment scheduled almost immediately (less than 48 hours). Our technician, Tony, was scheduled to arrive at 8:00 - once he realized he would be a few minutes behind, he gave us a courtesy call and an accurate ETA. We required the electrical inspection because we had recently had water damage on two levels and were concerned that the water had impacted our electrical system. A safety inspection was of the utmost importance to us before reconstruction began. Tony, a technician with more than 15 years of experience, was excellent. Tony presented background information about the company, including, among other things, the fact that the company carries it's own liability insurance in the unfortunate event that the technician is injured on our property - and more importantly to me - that all of the technicians have had complete background checks and routine drug testing. As a former prosecutor, I recognize the value of these "extras" when having a stranger in my home to do work. He explained the product and service warranties - which left me knowing that I could expect to rely on Boys to solve any problems that I might have if they wind up doing work for us in the future. Next, Tony explained what the process was for today - the order in which he would be conducting his inspections of various things in the electrical system and the types of concerns he would be looking for as he went along. Together, we looked at the main electrical panel and the potential problem areas of which I was aware. After that, Tony inspected the entire rest of the house, including outlets, switches, etc. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the inspection also included a inspection of the smoke and CO detectors. When Tony was done, he wrote up his findings and recommendations. While we have a "clean bill of electrical health," Tony made several recommendations for things that we can/should consider upgrading or improving over time, the most important of which were the electrical panel (original to the house - 1989) and the smoke detection system (which is not up to code at this time). Tony also gave us estimates on several smaller electrical projects we would like to undertake, including adding new switches, a new "can" light and under cabinet lighting in the laundry room. By the time he left, we felt like we had a plan for the most important electrical things that we should undertake, in what order, and the approximate expense of each one. Tony's work was thorough; his communication skills were excellent and I felt much more knowledgeable about my home and my options when he was done. As a bonus, Tony was one of the most polite people I have ever met - a rare gem in a hurry-up "modern" world. I look forward to working with Tony and Boys Electric in the future. If all of the technicians are as skilled as Tony, I'm sure you could not go wrong with Boys. But just to be sure - ask for Tony! read more

We scheduled them to come out to look at our water heater for a 79.99 service fee. They were on time and seemed friendly and knowledgeable. We talked for about ten minutes about the issue and the tech told us St. Paul water is heavily chlorinated, which is hard on water heater parts. So, either the burner assembly goes out, then the thermostat, or vice versa. We had already replaced the burner assembly and had the part for the thermostat for replacement- which seemed beyond us. The tech said he suspected the thermostat needed replacement from what we had told him. The rating takes a hit from the LESS than transparent pricing practice that happened next: when we said we were going upstairs to let them do their further inspecting, the technician says- we just need you to sign this- and hands over his tablet with a $298 diagnostic fee. Then he lets us know that the repair is almost certainly going to be more than this, which the diagnostic fee will go toward. Keep in mind, we were also to pay a service fee (which we thought included them actually poking around and finding what was wrong). From what we had talked about, a thermostat replacement was likely in order (of which we already had the part) and wiggling in burner assembly in correctly (which we had already replaced). We clarified "So, to replace the thermostat, considering that's the most likely cause, it will cost more than $300?" and the answer was "yes" followed by some explanations about liability, they are licensed, etc... Meanwhile, we had gotten an estimate from a handyman to replace the thermostat for $100. We are going this route. When we told them we were not continuing for $298, they lowered the service fee to $69.99 and left. We basically got some confirmation of what we knew- we needed to replace the thermostat. I don't really understand what the $69.99 was meant to cover- they didn't do anything beyond standing in our basement by our water heater for 10 minutes confirming what we already suspected. read more

Boy's staff start by rolling out a red carpet--literally--and putting on their floor protecting slippers. This isn't a show. It's an indicator of how clean your house will be when they finish. Jeff came to discover the source of several seemingly small problems in the 150-year-old house where I've lived 40 years. What he found was a spider web of wiring and problems left by any number of electricians, many of whom I had hired as I renovated the house. I knew I was in real trouble when he came up the basement stairs with a hunk of frayed 100-year-old wire in his hand and explained what this could mean if it was in a wall or ceiling. It turned out that it was. Though his analysis and written report were peerless, the cost made me blanch, though I did know I had dodged a bullet by calling Boy's. They replaced wire in eight rooms and a hallway, finding that the circuit in question ran through the house like a spiderweb. What I dreaded as much as damage to my checking account was damage to the walls (hard to patch lath and plaster) and dust and dirt in my house. Yet one week and six electricians later, all we had to patch was one hole and two drill bit marks. Jeff oversaw the work throughout, coming in to inspect, bringing a sunny disposition as well as consummate skill. Boy's found a number of issues and instances of sloppy workmanship left by previous electricians. Jeff stepped in when others ran into problems they couldn't solve. I've dealt with a number of technical professionals in the renovation over the last 40 years, but seldom have I been as pleased as I am with Boy's, and I attribute much of that to Jeff's leadership. Every one of my interactions with Boy's electricians was positive, and every one of them demonstrated professionalism, intelligence, and focus in their work. Bravo, guys. You deserve more than applause. Bravo Jeff. You've supported my work to bring this old house from the 19th to the 21st century. read more

Hired Boy's Electric LLC to put in an outdoor electrical outlet for a radon mitigation system. While the work itself did get done, I would probably not recommend them in the future. I thought the price was quite high for ONE outlet that took only 1 hour to install. They also charge a "travel fee" of $60-some whether or not you go with their services on the day they come out. So when they advertise "free estimates" it's really not free. Had I not been in a rush to get this done because I was selling the house and on a really strict time line to get it done I would not have gone with them at all. The "travel fee" should be waived if the client decides to go with the project/work. That is just ridiculous. I had 2 ceiling lights installed by a different company and the cost was the same as this ONE outlet. I should have gone with the same company who did my ceiling lights but like I said I was on a really strict time line and had to get it done soon. I also thought the whole talk about all their awards was kind of lame. As for the electrician himself who did the work he was very good and very kind (Bill). He was on time and called before arriving so that I was ready. If I could rate him separately I would give him 5 stars for his courtesy and professionalism. He's not the problem, the business is the problem (and the ridiculous prices they charge). Do your homework and go somewhere else for your electrical work!!! Save yourself a few hundred dollars! read more

We moved in about a year ago, and one of the worst things is finding a good doctor/dentist/carpet cleaner and electrician. We felt like it was a crap shoot to pick an electrician and that we may or may not be happy with the results. We noticed Boy's was listed in our local county brochure as a recommended electrician so we thought we would give them a try.... Well, we hit the jackpot!!! We were extremely happy with the work that David did. He gave us a review of his company and the services that they provided as well a little background on the company. He listened as I explained what we wanted (four outlets installed in our garage) and then he took a look around and made some observations. He pointed out a few things I hadn't noticed. It's been a while since I needed an electrician so I was a little surprised at the price, but in the end, I think it was well worth it. It appears that everything that was installed was premium quality product. David was a clean cut, very professional and friendly young man. He was extremely knowledgeable and answered all of my questions. We visited while he worked and I got that small town feeling about him (that's a good thing for me to feel.) Everything went well and worked perfectly. I would recommend Boy's, and specifically David to anyone that is looking for electrical work. read more

I have a great story about Boy's Electric. I had Boy's come out on a Friday to do some work for me. I was having a new electrical panel put in as well as some other work involving my A/C and ground to the whole house. Well, I signed a contract with Boy's rather quickly because our A/C was out. Unfortunately, the job was not able to be finished in one day. It would have to wait until Tuesday, Monday being a holiday of course. Anyway, I started having a little buyer's remorse on Sunday. I called up Boy's on a Sunday and within an hour Kent, the owner returned my phone call. He listened to my concerns and suggested coming out on Tuesday to go over everything once more. Kent pretty much wrote up a new contract and figured out a way to help reduce my costs. He even worked with the utility company (Xcel Energy) to reduce them even further. I was so thrilled with that kind of service but even more thrilled with the quality of repair and installation. Dave, the technician, was extremely courteous, professional and patient with me through the whole process. He did a great job! My electrical panel looks great along with everything else. Thanks guys for your great work and customer service. read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! I feel like such a fool for using this shady company. I won a free tune up and figured that it couldn't hurt anything, that was a big mistake. They came over and violently tore open the furnace searching desperately for a crack in the heat exchanger. And sure enough, they found a tiny little scratch and called it a crack. Then they put a big sticker right on the face of the furnace saying "unsafe to operate." And claimed that I was in danger. The service man, Joe H, told me I needed a new furnace and it could cost as much as 80,000 bucks! I had another company come out and take a look at the heat exchanger, and they told me it was only a scratch. They told me they had heard many similar stories stemming from this crooked company. Please avoid these guys at all costs. read more

My wife made me take my kids to the doctor after they had been complaining about breathing problems for several months. The doctor informed me to check my hvac unit, where I found my filter appeared to have grown into a small animal due to the amount of dust, hair and particles trapped. I gave Service Today a call and had them out to inspect and clean the system. Mike P not only serviced our unit, but also successfully explained everything he was doing to my wife, who doesn't know her foot from her elbow. (A true feat in itself, husbands take note of this man's communication skills) While my air is now cleaner and unit is running optimally, my kids are now able to fight and wreak havoc nonstop, I almost miss the dirty system. Thanks a lot Mike, a noticeable change in both the system and air. read more

I recently used Airtech for a tune up on my furnace. I knew it was on its last legs and unfortunately it got red tagged. As any homeowner knows you're in for a tough (and expensive) ride when this happens but the Airtech team did a great job of showing me the cracks and photos of the issues that put my wife and I at ease knowing it needed to be replaced. Kyle and Joel were very professional, always wore booties in the house and we're great to deal with. Kyle even took my call on his cell at 9pm that night to answer additional questions. It sucks when you have to cancel your vacation to buy a new furnace on your anniversary but Airtech made it as good of a situation as possible. read more

We had a great experience with Jeff @ Boy's Electric. We purchased a countertop microwave unit a month or so ago. The unit ran well but would intermittently shut off causing the circuit breaker to pop. Jeff took his time and examined kitchen outlets along with the main electrical panel. He found the kitchen power outlet not to code. Infact, one of the power outlets was cracked. Jeff replaced the outlet along with an additional two kitchen outlets. He also replaced the circuit breaker in the main electrical panel. We are very pleased with Jeff's work and attention to detail. He is an asset to Boy's Electric. We won't hesitate to recommend Boy's Electric when asked read more

Kevin N came to our home to perform an annual tune-up on our furnace. During his inspection he found a cracked heat exchanger and informed us that it was not only unsafe but he had checked to see what the cost would be to replace it with a new furnace since replacing just the heat exchanger would cost us more than half the cost of a new furnace. After my wife and I discussed the issues we went ahead and informed Kevin that we would use his company to replace the furnace. Kevin was honest and forthright about the cost and warranties along with the new Daikin furnace and we are happy with the install. Thank you Kevin!. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! It was the worst experience with a service company that I have ever had. Joe H. came out to my house for an overpriced "Tune Up" which I hate to call that since he didn't tune anything. He didn't even wipe down the furnace. After about 20 minutes of looking at the furnace, he comes up and says that I need over $2000 dollars in repairs, when it was running fine! I later found out that these guys get paid off of commission and will do or say anything to get you to buy something. I will never use Air Tech again and highly recommend that you avoid them as well. read more

I have had 2 different services performed by Boys Electric. Allisa and Merced replaced an outlet and repaired a non working ceiling fixture. They did such a great job i called Boys Electric a week later to have them install 2 chandeliers. Dave G and Merced came out. They are professional, clean and fun to work with. They will educate you on what you need with using electrician terminology. I am so glad I contacted them. The repairs performed gave me great piece of mind (since the former "electrician" did a botched job) and my chandeliers look GREAT! read more

Dave and Merced were on time and did an excellent job! the They replaced one light switch and replaced one outlet for $335.75.They were here two hours. They inspected every outlet in the house and outside of the house. They gave me a detailed plan to update everything including the service panel. They also gave me a price to replace a few additional light fixtures. These guys were great, they deserve five stars for their professionalism. So why am I only giving three stars? The reason is because the prices are ridiculously high. read more

Our electrical outlets in our newely renovated kitchen were having issues, sometimes working sometimes not working. Service today sent a technician to diagnose the issue and i was very pleased with the results. They are expensive but having the peace of mind that a qualified individual came out to diagnose the issue and presented different things to correctly solve the issue is enough for me. Im more than happy to have them in my home again if i ever need any additional work done! read more

We were in need of some quick electrical work to advance on a home improvement project we were working on. We called several companies who were booked weeks or months in advance. We got ahold of Boy's Electrical and they were out the next day. Ryan was prompt, professional, talked to us about how Boy's was a established, trustworthy company, and gave us an upfront and competitive price to get the work done. He did a great job! We were very pleased with his work. read more

Dave provided excellent service, found the problem to our complex wiring system, fixed it, and then discovered another problem and repaired that, too. He took the time to explain his work before he left. He was especially neat and was careful about wearing shoe covers and vacuumed the places where a bit of debris fell when he removed a wall socket. We have his card and will call him again should the need arise. We are totally satisfied with his work! read more

Great company! Great service personnel! I was so impressed with the level of customer service we received. Dave G and Merced sat down and went over all the options and pricing without all the pressure. We were given 4 different options & he explained everything upfront including pricing without all the hidden fees some companies have. Very satisfied with the rapid response, customer service, and pricing. I would recommend this company to everyone. read more
