I was really excited to have Mack out to quote a replacement furnace/AC, based on everyone's…read morecomments on Reddit, Nextdoor, and elsewhere. I really wanted someone local, independent, and that I could call and they'd answer -- and be honest. But... I was incredibly underwhelmed. I was after a full replacement system, with a slight preference toward replacing the AC unit with a heat pump. I also wanted a two-stage system due to slight temperature imbalances in the house. He very quickly dismissed heat pumps, saying that they're "worthless" in Wisconsin, and he also didn't entertain the idea of a two-stage system. I asked about going from a 1-inch filter to 4-inch, and he said, "No, I wouldn't do that. The thicker filters restrict airflow too much; I would just get a higher quality filter." This is just blatantly incorrect and the exact opposite is true. 1-inch filters with higher MERV ratings are what restrict airflow. I also had a 45,000 BTU furnace, which had had no problem heating our home (and it was 20 years old! -- both the unit and house), but he very quickly said, "Oh, that's too small. You should get an 80,000," without taking any sort of measurements, asking any questions, or looking at the rest of the house. You can't do a load calculation based on...nothing? And you can't just nearly double furnace capacity without causing issues (mainly, that it's going to short cycle from being oversized). And, as mentioned earlier, it wasn't going to be a two-stage furnace, so it would have run at that full 80,000... Maybe he's good at repairs (I don't know), and maybe he's well priced (he came in second cheapest out of the four bids I got), but these were all just fairly big red flags for me that he wasn't a match for me for doing a new install. I got a two-stage heat pump and two-stage furnace setup from elsewhere and so far am very happy!

They told us that it was a blower motor and it would cost about $1500.00 to get us up and running. They said we were better off getting a new furnace costing about $6,000.00. We decided to check around and decided to call seasonal survival. WOW. I called and they were able to come out later the same day. It was the circuit board. He happened to have one on his truck. $375.00 and 20 minutes we are up and running! We even tried to give him a tip and he said nope, we don't do that. If you need any heating or plumbing issues do not hesitate to give them a call!

A Christmas Angel, Michael O. saved us from our worst Christmas nightmare…read more 6 o'clock on Christmas night, We planned to have our Christmas evening supper, and exchange gifts, Suddenly, a loud crack shook the house, the lights flickered, followed by another loud crack. This time the lights didn't flicker, but went out completely along with all the electricity! The house shook, my spouse found a flashlight and went to investigate the basement. When I got to the steps to the basement. I could smell smoke. I didn't think it was a good idea to be down there in the pitch black so I told him I was calling 911. He accepted the need to abandon the house and go outside. We put on our heavy coats took a couple of chairs and went outside to wait for the fire department. We waited for 2 1/2 hours outside in the dark and cold as the fire team worked. EMTs, provided warm blankets. When their investigation was finished, We were told to find another place to stay. All utilities were disconnected. We reached out to our electrician to see if he could help us, Then looked for the nearest hotel to sleep that night, Grateful, no other damage was done to the residence except to our now very black fuse box. We were assured everything would be ok. We didn't feel that way as we used flashlights to look for items we would need to take with and food we could use tonight and tomorrow. The next morning, our electrcian recommended we contact Action plumbing heating and electricity. He said they're very reliable and would take good care of us. We did and a few hours later received a call from their representative, Mr. Michael O, our Christmas Angel, He expertly and quickly restored our home, saving Christmas for us. This kind, caring, concerned electrician had us relaxed and calm within minutes with clear expectations of how this repair would go. He told us he would stay in our home through the night to get as much done as he could so that he could get us back at our house as soon as possible. He even texted throughout the night on his progress. While he labored on our behalf in our dark, cold, smokey basement, we spent another night in a warm comfortable room not far away. His texts through the night led us to believe, we could indeed check out and go home to stay. To our joy and happiness, as we drove up the driveway, we witnessed the truth of his promise and incredible skill when we saw the kitchen light welcoming us back knowing the refrigerator was running. Our holiday food was safe. It was like looking into a dark sky with one star awake. He left to rest and restore himself with a promise all will be completed before the end of the day. When he returned to finish the work that afternoon, slowly, but surely each room came back to life as he finished the wiring room by room until everything was turned on, especially the stove! The refrigerator was still cold and chilled. We really appreciated his thoughtfulness in making sure that was where he started. Christmas was saved because of Michael O., our Christmas Angel, saving our food supplies, we could finish wrapping gifts that were still neatly under the tree. He was thorough in his clean up. There was nothing for us to take care of. He truly is a very caring, compassionate, empathetic electrician toward people who are suffering, unexpected losses, especially at this time of the year. We were blessed that Action, plumbing heating and electronics, sent this amazingly wonderful, skilled and dedicated electrician our way. We were blown away by his willingness to give up his warm night's sleep in his own bed and his family in order to make sure we got our home restored. He willingly settled into a dark cold, unlit, basement with nothing but flashlight to do his work by, was beyond any expectations we could have had imagined. Getting us back into our house as quickly as possible to salvage some of our Christmas activities with family was his priority. He's the most amazing person I've ever met, willing to go all out for other people first, even though he didn't even know us, Michael O, you truly are our Christmas angel 1) damaged fuse box, 2) fully repaired. WOW!! RUN!! Don't walk!! These guys are AMAZING!! So.... I live in a condo complex that…read morewas built in 1988. The owners were instructed that we needed to have our dryer vents brought "up to code" as most of the vents had become disconnected... and were venting somewhere inside the building.. but not venting out side the the building. Argh... a challenging task for sure. I called several companies to come out and give me an estimate. Every single company I called said "I will find your disconnect, but you are responsible for replacing your drywall, painting, etc" Not good news. Then... Ducts On Call came out... and they spent 4 hours researching... trying to figure out which vent was mine that exited out of the back of the building. But since every single dryer vent was disconnected in the interior of the building... there was NO way they could figure it out without tearing up the ceiling in mine, and my neighbors units. I was SO frustrated. But then Nick suggested we put in a new vent duct from my unit straight out the front of the building. It was my only option. He said we would need to schedule a time in the future... but I told him I needed it done in the next 3 weeks. He said... "I will make this happen for you" Well for starters... he DID NOT CHARGE ME for the 4 hours he spent trying to figure out which vent was mine. HE SAID... "I didn't solve the problem.. so I will not charge you" What?? 4 hours of your time for free?? Moving forward..... Nick and his crew came back 2 weeks later to install my NEW, up to code dryer duct on a new path out the front of my condo. I was SO not looking forward to having my ceiling ripped open to have the duct installed. So the day had come. Nick arrived before his scheduled time and he went to to work. I asked him... "How much of my ceiling do you need to open up?" He said... "I'm not opening your ceiling... I'm going to drill a hole in the exterior of your building, and slide the new duct straight back to your dryer connection" I was beside myself! I could go on and on... but let me tell you, this guy is the real deal!! He is incredibly gifted at what he does... super friendly... hard worker, and gets the shit done!! For what I thought was going to be a day of HELL... turned out to be a day of BLISS. I CAN NOT recommend this company any more than I do!! They were AMAZING... and the job was smooth, and quick, and so much easier than I dreamed it would be. Let me state again... that I called several companies to get the job done.... and these guys were one of the newer companies I called.... but I hit the jackpot!! Trust me!! If your need Duct work done... these guys were stellar from start to finish. And no... I'm not related to them... I'm not his high school friend... and I knew nothing about them, but I took a chance... and boy... am I glad I did. Amazing! THESE GUYS KICK ASS!! Give them a try!! Thank You Ducts On Call!!
