I was just walking by to head somewhere else but was lured in by the display of boots visible from the window (and of course the "up to 90% off" sign). Upon entry I was given a friendly greeting by the employee behind the register, who let me know that there were some $1 bargains around the shop. I took some time to explore the aisles. It is entirely a clothes/accessories thrift shop, so tops, bottoms, coats, shoes, purses, hats, gloves, jewelry. Probably around 3/4s the inventory is "women's" and 1/4 "men's" (if you adhere to the gender binary; I personally shop both sides). I didn't see any kids clothes, so if you're searching for that I'd recommend going elsewhere. Good range of sizes on footwear! They even have a dressing room so you can try things on if you'd like to make sure it fits, and I noticed a couple spots with a small bench to make trying on shoes a little easier to accomplish too. These spots also had a full-length tri-panel mirror to give you multiple angles to view your potential new item. Like I said, this place felt reasonably upscale! Not at all like slumming it, even though there were indeed quite a few things marked down to $1 clearance. While I was there, a couple came in to hand off some of their hand-me-downs. Apparently this place will offer you cash in exchange for donations. So if you have something that's got little to no wear and need some change, this might be a good choice over just dropping off at Goodwill. Didn't purchase anything this time, but I'll likely pop back in another time when I finally need to replace my running shoes. Why buy new when I could get a nearly-new pair here for $15-30?

I stopped in a few days before Christmas, and I actually had a few things yet I wanted to get my grandpa, so this worked out great. However, a close friend is diving in for his third, and I applaud his happiness. I won't wear a tuxedo, but I needed to have a suit made that would make the bride and the 400 attendees comfortable. The bride already told me not to don a fedora or pink sneakers, although I wanted to. Todd Fliginger at Martin Patrick took me under his wing. Todd is amazingly kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. He sent swatches to Milwaukee before we moved to Minneapolis. Tailors were brought in, especially the master tailor Robert, not only to measure, but also to have me try on different designers' pieces to see what would fit well. I am a difficult fit, with a body more like a penguin than a human. That's what a custom tailor in NYC told me. However, I don't nosh on Krill. Todd and Robert took hours to get a correct fit and guaranteed that I would look good. Todd even saved me several hundred dollars off the original quote. ADDENDUM: My suit arrived, and it looked amazing. A few alterations are required to ensure a perfect fit, but that's it. I had a suit made on Savile Row in London that cost more than three times this suit's price, and it did not fit as well. This store should be on every list of Minneapolis's sightseeing highlights. It is akin to a design museum. Everything at Martin Patrick--furniture and furnishings--is for sale, and they're all amazing! Martin Patrick 3 is down-to-earth sophistication, with a NYC or Parisian vibe. Yet, the staff is Midwest empathetic. It is a Minneapolis treasure, as is Todd. I might not be looking forward to this wedding, but at least I know I will look my best.

A few hours before the wedding, he realized had left his suit pants back at home. With no time to retrieve them, I received a call to see if there was anything I could do (I was already in Red Wing). We found Heimie's Haberdashery via the web, went there and were helped by the manager Jeff. After he heard the story, he grabbed some prospective clothes and drove the mile or so to the wedding venue, the groom OK'd the suit and pants, then Jeff measured my nephew at the venue. We drove back to Heimie's, Jeff tailored the clothes, and we took the clothes back to the venue. I guess my questionable mountaineering skills must have made him nervous! Heimie's hero was just the Sherpa guide I needed for my mini-Everest expedition. I can't thank him enough for helping, especially since he wasn't even wearing any winter gear...just his fancy shmancy suit. Heimie's snowbank conqueror was so impeccably dressed that I'm sold on purchasing a bow tie here for my six-year-old nephew very soon. He will be going on his first official chaperoned ice cream date with a young lady determined to marry him in the future, and he specifically requested a bow tie for the event. Clearly there is a lot at stake for this very serious date, so he will need a dapper tie that is sure to impress! No pressure, Heimie's, no pressure.

The owner (I assume she was the owner) looked them over while I looked around the store. When I went back up to the front, all she said was, "I'll pass." I was a bit surprised, so I said, "Can I ask why?" She said, "They have a strong dry cleaning smell, so maybe if you put them in the backyard or something." (I smelled them again and I honestly don't smell anything, but whatever.) I said, "Okay, so if I do that... is there anything here you'd take? Because I don't want to do all of that and lug everything back and you're just not interested." She very curtly said, "I don't know, I didn't really look." No smile, no "thanks for coming in." (Her associate who was working there was nice.) The whole time, she was just very curt and abrasive with me. And even though I was there to try to sell clothes, if she had treated me like that if I had walked in there to buy clothes, I would have NEVER bought anything from her. I definitely would have felt unwelcome and walked out. My negative review is not based on her decision not to buy my clothes. That's totally her decision - I was disappointed, but that's fine. My negative review is based on how she treated me. I felt she was very rude to me the whole time. I will not try to sell anything there anymore, nor will I go in to buy anything either.
