Ok I was suprised by my gf and got a day at the spa for my Father's Day gift. This place is located on a strip mall right on the corner of Ave K and 17th St W right on the second floor. It doesn't look fancy from the outside, but the inside was nice and cozy. I was told I'm getting a 1 hour massage and a facial. I was quite excited since I needed some pampering and this was the day I was getting some. I met with my masseuse, Gena and she proceeded to ask me what kind of massage I prefer and what areas did she want me to concentrate on. I told her I wanted deep tissue and to focus on my back, shoulders and neck. My expectations weren't too high since this was my first time here and I've had a lot of massages. I've always believed in taking care of the body and the whole hollistic approach. So she began working through my upper body and I noticed how well she applied the correct amount of pressure. Kneaded my knots and my aches away. I knew I was a mess since it has been months since my last massage. I was starting to get impressed because I knew right off the back that she knew what she was doing. She had the gift. So I became curious and asked her where she had her training and sure enough it's one of the top massage schools in the US. She got a job right after she finished school. Even worked at the top spas out here in So Cal. I'm glad she ended up out here in the AV. And giving me one of the best massages I've ever experienced in my life. It was quite an experience. I have always felt that 60 minutes is a good sampler. But the best is always the 90 minutes of bliss because it allows them to work on your problem areas first and then have time to finish up the other kinks in your body. The facial was average. I enjoyed it as well. The aromatics and the fact that she also did extractions when I asked her to. I know it's painful but so worth it. Overall this place is great. Not sure about the prices of services since I didn't pay for it. But I know the massage is worth every penny. So if you want to experience a "zen moment" and get away from the stresses of life. I've got to say, " Fransisco" the massage therapist at Serenity Spa is by far, THE BEST! At first I was a bit unsure if I wanted to have a male due my massage as I've always had females but, the moment I met him he was super kind, nice and very professional. I felt no awkwardness with him at all. He keeps the talking to bare minimum and that's only when he's asking for any specific aches you may have. I personally like the quite but I'm sure if you like to talk, he would do so. I really enjoyed the soft music tones and the smell of the light fragrance massage oils. I highly recommend getting the hot stones. I was referred by a friend at my gym and now I know of at least 6 people who regularly go to Francisco. Johnny is the man when it comes to excellent massage therapy! I'm so glad he's in the AV. Before this, I'd have to drive to the valley to get a quality massage. I've been to him twice now for prenatal massage and his techniques actually provide long lasting relief from the aches of pregnancy! He found some places in my body that I didn't even realize was tight or sore and worked them right out with the perfect amount of pressure. Unlike my previous experiences with prenatal massages, he did so much more than just rub oil on me and gently stretch muscles! He also really knows his anatomy. He showed me a side - sleeping technique to take the pressure off my joints and that was the most comfortable I have been in a while! I can't wait to see what he'll be able to do with my shoulder knots once I can get back to deep tissue and sports massage because they already feel amazing after this prenatal massage. Had a great spa day here with my mom and sister for her bridal shower. The experience was everything we hoped for. We each had facials, massages, and pedicures. Nicole was especially amazing. Only constructive criticism I have is for the old guy that must also work there that sat in the lounge area playing some weird game on his phone with the volume up the whole time and didn't have any shoes on, not professional what so ever. This is the gem of the AV because of its people. Jim Scanlan gives the only Lomi Lomi massage this side of Hawaii and can run away a bad back. Sore shoulders and a number of chronic conditions. He opens the lymphatic system and keeps me from catching colds in my many frequent flier miles. Kathy gives a lay down pedi that takes an hour and includes a great foot massage. Was really looking forward to my spa day with my husband after the holidays when I made my appointment. I came in and everything was so cluttered. There was a man in the next room being very loud, and making a lot of noise. We were scheduled for a couples massage and facials, and mani/pedis. After waiting a few, they split us up, and I did a facial and manicure, while my husband got his massage, than visa versa. It ended up taking 3 hours! Plus, I thought it was going to be a couples massage (because that's what he paid for). And the girl who gave us the massage was very, very rough. The next day my back was very sore and hurt even to the touch. I was a bit upset and dissapointed because I had very much been looking forward to going. I don't think we'll be going back. read more
