For quite some time, I didn't see the point of hiring someone to write my resume, that it was a complete waste of money when I could easily do it myself. Well, just like the time I thought it was a solid idea to forgo hiring a mechanic and just do the work myself, I was oh so wrong. I sent my original point person Alana my resume and she took a considerable amount of time out of her day to (politely) point out why my resume wasn't getting the hits I wanted, asked me lots of questions about my background, experiences and goals and from there, recommended the package she thought would best work for me. Alana also had me consult with her colleague Maryann, who offered her own expertise and insight as to what my resume needed. From there, Alana matched me with a writer from her staff she thought would best capture my voice. That writer, Paula, was truly fantastic. In a lengthy phone interview, she was able to pull information and facts about myself even I had forgotten, to the point where even I was impressed with myself (and I'm a perfectionist). The resulting resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile were like I had written them, only so much better. Fast forward to now and the ROI has been tremendous. I'm able to apply to jobs in a more efficient way, which is important for someone like me who has limited free time. The amount of responses I've gotten back has improved dramatically, the amount of hits on my LinkedIn page has skyrocketed and it looks like the next chapter of my career will be starting sooner than later. Even in the fourth quarter, historically known to be a quiet hiring period, I am receiving calls almost daily about potential opportunities. Speaking to the About Jobs team, it is apparent this is a crew that really believes in their products, and, just like with my mechanic, I wish I had hired them much sooner. I highly recommend About Jobs to help bring your career to the next level.

Customer Service After submitting a short questionnaire I was contacted via email immediately by Annabel who answered all of my questions in a timely manner. Resume Writing I worked with David who was open, gracious and a great listener. He has worked in many facets of talent management so he knows what to highlight, how to write it and what approach to take. Despite having achieved quite a bit, I was unsure how to translate the value I bring on a resume in a way that connects with hiring managers. I spoke with David for 1 hour. He asked great questions. He heard me and CRAFTED a beautiful resume and cover letter. 24 hours after updating my LinkedIn I received an email from a recruiter. So this review might be late, but I do feel that my experience can be a cautionary tale to those who are seeking help during a time of desperation. I reached out to Dana in Sept 2019. She made me feel like this would be a great investment. I filled out their questionnaire for the resume + cover letter + LinkedIn package, and paid $750ish. I asked to not be matched with Allison (no real reason, just a gut feeling.) Against my wishes, I was matched with Allison. I decided to give her a shot. (Big mistake! Always trust your gut!) We scheduled a call, she basically talked out of her ass by talking herself up, being vague, and saying things we already know about the computer systems sorting through our resumes. I gave her ALLLL of my information and she said she would send me the first draft within a week. A week later, no resume. No response to emails or phone calls. Two weeks later, I finally get my first draft with spelling errors AND information errors. In her email, she claimed she sent it a week prior and doesn't know why I didn't receive it. I told her all the corrections she needed to make. She said she would have it back to me in a week. A few weeks later, I finally got it back. It came back with just as many, but different errors. I ended up moving forward to the cover letter, and making my own corrections to my resume on my own because I was getting annoyed with her lack of proofreading, time management, and communication. I had the same issues with the cover letter and decided I was done. After 2 months of this, I did NOT want to continue to a LinkedIn update with her, even though I paid for it. She never reached back out to finish the job. She just disappeared. I was so pissed off by this experience, I just wanted to wash my hands clean from this and accept that I wasted $750+ on this. I decided to finally share this now because I'm back to looking for a new job and fixing up my resume, etc. and I hope my experience helps you invest in yourself, and turn to Google/YouTube searches instead of getting screwed over like I did.

I shelled out 3k so you don't have to…read more.. I haven't needed a resume nor been on a job interview for almost 10 years, and I was making a career change. I did need help, and for some reason I thought the more money I spent, the better assistance I would get. Not the case! First off, Resume Strategists charged me 3,000.00 for a resume, cover letter and linked in profile because they said I was "mid career". The resume process took about a month. The way they worded some of my accomplishments definitely sounded better than what I had originally. However, the overall result was that I sounded like the most lowest common denominator Office clone. I sent out about 20 of their version and got ZERO response. I then went over my resume and noticed that I had a history of collaborating with different teams to accomplish projects. I bumped up my summary and added some more details and got ONE response. Resume Strategists FAILED to quantify or qualify any of my accomplishments (I did that and they didn't even ask for numbers) and they FAILED to see a pattern of cross-functional team collaboration and highlight that in the summary. Some of the resume revisions I could tell hardly any thought went into them at all. The linked profile? what a joke, just a regurgitation of your resume. The cover letter - they give you one final version. Frankly, the cover letter sucked. It was, again, my resume regurgitated. And the "career counseling" - is the most average, basic info that is easily found by doing an internet search. They do not have any inside knowledge or cutting edge information. And in the final meeting, we barely got into the interview questions because we went over on time. Which they promptly stopped at the allotted time because they had someone else to price gouge waiting. You don't work with Alyssa, who is touted on their website. I never even met her. And they have very nice full floor office in midtown Manhattan. Now I know why the price is so high! Gotta meet that overhead for the swank office. Knowing all I know now, this is how I would approach writing my resume. Having an objective person or more than one person look at it is valuable. So I would go to Craigslist where there are tons of people offering resume-writing for around $50 and hire 4 of them that stood out to me. When I had the four versions, I would sit down, google search for relevant key words and create my own resume using the material I already had. Summary: Resume Strategists is NOTHING SPECIAL and NOT WORTH 3,000.00!

The time she spent working with me and talking through my career path, I not only ended up with terrific materials, but I was able to see my own value from a different perspective. With her experience, she transformed what had been a jumble of experiences into a well-articulated resume and cover letter. The experience has been a very positive one, as it has helped me further prepare for interviews. This gives me a greater confidence in my abilities and how I speak about myself. I am in the midst of relocating to the East Coast and there is no room for error in hitting my goal; this was not the time for a DIY effort. And frankly, DIY efforts have only netted mediocre results. At this point, with Alyssa's help, I have noticed an increase in traffic to my LinkedIn profile from searches and I have received very positive feedback about my updated materials (cover letter and resume).
