This review is a few years late. Why? Because I was busy juggling life..I was also pretty pissed off for trusting BRS who ended up scamming me. So this review might be late, but I do feel that my experience can be a cautionary tale to those who are seeking help during a time of desperation. I reached out to Dana in Sept 2019. She made me feel like this would be a great investment. I filled out their questionnaire for the resume + cover letter + LinkedIn package, and paid $750ish. I asked to not be matched with Allison (no real reason, just a gut feeling.) Against my wishes, I was matched with Allison. I decided to give her a shot. (Big mistake! Always trust your gut!) We scheduled a call, she basically talked out of her ass by talking herself up, being vague, and saying things we already know about the computer systems sorting through our resumes. I gave her ALLLL of my information and she said she would send me the first draft within a week. A week later, no resume. No response to emails or phone calls. Two weeks later, I finally get my first draft with spelling errors AND information errors. In her email, she claimed she sent it a week prior and doesn't know why I didn't receive it. I told her all the corrections she needed to make. She said she would have it back to me in a week. A few weeks later, I finally got it back. It came back with just as many, but different errors. I ended up moving forward to the cover letter, and making my own corrections to my resume on my own because I was getting annoyed with her lack of proofreading, time management, and communication. I had the same issues with the cover letter and decided I was done. After 2 months of this, I did NOT want to continue to a LinkedIn update with her, even though I paid for it. She never reached back out to finish the job. She just disappeared. I was so pissed off by this experience, I just wanted to wash my hands clean from this and accept that I wasted $750+ on this. I decided to finally share this now because I'm back to looking for a new job and fixing up my resume, etc. and I hope my experience helps you invest in yourself, and turn to Google/YouTube searches instead of getting screwed over like I did. read more

I decided to use Brooklyn Resume Studio because I have been with at my current employer for over six years and have not had to think about a resume / cover letter in quite some time, I am focusing on a complete career change and didn't really know where to start. I asked Dana a few questions about the process through their website's assessment and her responses, which were very timely, gave me the feeling that this would be service worthwhile. When the process got started I was introduced to David, the resume expert and career coach that would be working with me. After filling out an initial questionnaire David and I spoke on the phone for about 40 minutes going over various aspects of my professional experience. David asked a lot of probing questions that helped remind me of significant achievements and mile stones that I have experienced through the years. There were a couple details that I didn't know off hand and this was totally fine, I was able to email David after a few days without feeling the pressure of a deadline. A week or so after our initial phone call David provided me with the first draft of my resume, and it did not disappoint. After a lot of research I ended up hiring Dana to help me with my resume, as I had been living abroad for many years I needed help changing my resume for the NYC job market and figured hiring a local would be my best bet. Our session seemed rushed which was a red flag, but fast forward a few months, I sat in front of a head hunter who told me it was one of the worst resumes she'd ever seen! She said there was no way I'd be able to lock down an interview with such a long, unfocussed resume. I used Brooklyn Resume Studio (Dana) in 2015 to help me land my next job. All my professional experience to date is in the non-profit sector and it had been a struggle for me to encapsulate my responsibilities and achievements into resume form. I was a bit hesitant at first in choosing Dana because most of her examples seemed to relate more to creative professionals than non-profit people but I ultimately took the plunge and paid for a "junior" resume (for those with limited work experience). Dana did an intake call with me, asked savvy questions, and quickly turned around a draft. She took my feedback to heart and quickly whipped up revisions. I was pleased with the styling and the content. She did a great job encapsulating my work experience in ways that, frankly, I would haven't thought to do -- so, my hesitation wasn't merited. Don't be put off if you're not a creative! Ultimately, I nabbed a job just weeks after receiving my resume. Who knows if it was the resume that sealed the deal but I'm sure it didn't hurt. Most of my friends think that I was crazy to pay a professional to write my resume, but in the end I think it was money well spent. There are enough things to stress about in the job hunt process. My experience is closer to Brian and Suzanne's. Having over 14 years experience in my career field, I am looking explore other avenues. I had Dana rewrite my resume and tailor it toward the more corporate aspects of my industry in May. After submitting to 30+ postings on Linked In, Monster, and Glass Door I have a total of one response from a recruiter and a scam marketing company response. Note, I also bought a cover letter from her as well. On a recent response to a job posting an offer from Doostang popped up for a free resume critique. It was fairly critical of Dana's rewrite so I forwarded the review to Dana to discuss whether the points were valid. This was on Sept 10th and after an initial response of "yes I will read and contact you", I have not heard back from Dana. I understand that Dana has no obligation to respond or to defend her work, but I thought there would be a courtesy to read a review of her work from a competitor and to possibly suggest ways in which I may experience more success using her resume. I also understand that any resume writing service will be critical of any resume's done by a competitor. I'm happy for those who experienced success through Dana's work, and after reading the reviews it seems like more of the positive reviews are coming from people new to the work force and not from people with 10+ years of experience in their field. Dana is without doubt a serious professional. After a few conversations, and sending explicit career notes (I sent her alot of info, links, etc), her discernment of my abilities and direction of my desired career path was peaked. She then was able to express those talents in an abreviated eloquence, helping me optimize my ability to get my "foot in the door", as they say. She takes aesthetic creative and content direction well, and always stays within the promised time line. Her formatting skils are excellent, and if you know how you want to be presented aesthtically she will execute. As this is where Dana truly excells, if you do not know what you want cosmetically, I know she would certainly create strong tastefully constructed look for your resume. And let's face it with so many job seekers out there it's important to have style that matches the content of your resume. I will say that we never got my resume down to 1 or even 1.5 pages. Though I never wanted to delete anything (I was being a bit precious at the time) Dana never really pushed me to either. As she is the expert in this situation I hope that my resume being as long as it is, isn't a deterent and that if it were she would have insisted on some cuts. Having gone back through the resume we did recently, I do feel that I should edit. I am in a far different place than I was then so I'm not holding as tightly. But if it needed to be tighter at the time she did not guide to understanding that importance. To finish, I was not satisfied after the 2nd draft and I felt badly asking, which is ridiculous as that is the service for which I paid. However, I had recently had my own creative grossly taken advantage of and I didn't or couldn't speak up. A few weeks later I was thinking of how disappointed I was, like my CV was there-ish, but just didn't have the balls (pardon the expression) it needed considering all I've done professionally. A month or so later it hit me, "she is a professional, this is what she does! She stands behind her work I'm sure." And though time had passed, money was paid, I had pretended to be content, and she had other projects on hand; she happily worked with me to amp up my resume. She is a woman of integrity who cares about her business and that is proof to me. Relevant final points and tips: Don't expect to get alot of phone time or babysitting through the process. She works best with clear direction via email. Send examples of what you like visually, and links to job you are aiming for that are reasonable to your skillset. (not to say don't aim higher, just temper your ambition with your ability) If you are looking for a career coach, and an empath to help you thoughtfully reset you on your path or redirect it utilizing the substance of your expirience then look for that and expect to pay alot more. Not the best experience. I have been working for over 15 years and really needed someone to come in and re-write parts of my resume. I felt in some places it could have been a little more descriptive and I needed a strong summary. As it turns out... I got a lot of fluff. Just taking my resume and embellishing it to the point where I had to wonder who would believe it? Very wordy as well. If you are right out of college, then I guess their services could be helpful.
