All the teachers were awful and didn't help my child at all with the learning. On top of that every few months, some kid throat chopped him

Not that great of a school. I had a good time here as a GATE student. Most teachers GATE or not…read morewere nice and really not that strict. The school did give me mental health problems, but that's mainly my fault for not doing some of my work and leaving me in a rabbit hole. Kids are kind of mean and cocky, something you would see in a private school. I was bullied for not catching dodgeballs zooming past my head at 100mph. The GATE students have their own hierarchy that works mostly the same as the normal students, but it's kinda different. The whole "popular kids" thing is really messed up. No, Alex, just because you hit a ball with a stick and laugh like a monkey should not make you popular. The dean was a little mean to me, but we are on good terms now. The main school does not respect my religion and beliefs. They laughed at me for wearing a cross. If you get put into a cubby, they WILL forget about you. I don't recommend dating anyone because let's be honest-- it's all idiot teenagers in one big building. I've dated twice and both of those experiences sucked booty. The weird gay kids are treated like babies, and it creates an unfair school environment. I don't care if someone made fun of you for being gay, move on. Some good things is the electives, teachers, and lunch times, but most of it is negative. Some staff are rude, but only some. The "phone away all day" is bs because I've seen kids walking with their phones without consequences. Teachers also can be passive aggressive and only treat the popular kids like actual students as someone who has experienced that. That's really all, and if you are looking into this school, I only recommend it if you are in the GATE program.

My son's overall maturity/behavior, penmanship and reading skills are already leaps and bounds advanced in just a few months of instruction and care. My Pre-K child loves going to school and his teachers are so loving and kind. They really understand little kids' needs and feelings. We considered waiting on Private Christian Education for Jr/Sr high, but we are so glad we went all-in during these young, incredibly formative years. Their little hearts and precious minds are saturated in Jesus' love all day. They are learning to process and understand their world from His view. We believe these are the years to do what it takes to surround them in God's love and truth. We're so blessed to have Excel as our kids' school here in Sparks! After reading some of the 1* reviews I have to say that the curriculum is VERY God/Jesus/Bible/Scripture focused. My Kinder kiddo memorizes a full verse each week, which is amazing! Their worksheets are Bible based. They have a scripture based, worship focused chapel each week too with some "high profile" pastors and Christian influencers in our area sharing the Word. As far as the nurse care, I got THREE calls in one day from the nurse, (two administrative thoroughly confirming my kids' Rx med protocol at school and one accident call), haha! The accident call was for a head bump (my kid collided with another in PE). She outlined exactly what happened, how they treated it and even sent a slip home with him with the same info. ZERO concerns here.

I'm very selective about where my children go due to bad experiences in the past and this place far exceeded our expectations the teachers care about the children and take the time to make sure that you as a parent are aware and involved if I had not left Nevada, my children would still be at the center. I love the education. Both my children are ahead because of the dedication of the teachers, their physical, mental and social development all improved while being there, I'm sorry some people had some bad experiences but I can tell you for me and my family it was a lifesaver.

I've tried to avoid typing this for a long time. Kindergarten was wonderful! My son learned so much…read moreand gained so much confidence. First grade was a nightmare. My sons teachers mother passed away at the beginning of the year and he had a bunch of substitutes the rest of the year. Second grade we had a serious problem with bullying. Even came to the school go deal with it. Mrs Brandt basically called me a liar. My son had taken his robot for show and tell and it was destroyed by some of his classmates. The teacher never even told me about it. I think it was 2 days later when he snuck the toy out of the classroom and told me about it. Following that incident his teacher threw away all of his belongings and the actual principal Mrs van tress helped us with that. He ended up getting a new teacher for the last 7 weeks of school. Mrs galatti. She was an angel. Too bad it was only 7 weeks. Third grade was amazing. Absolutely amazing! We had Mrs. Sherbondy. She was just so amazing. She really helped him grow and blossom. She stayed on top of his education and we talked weekly. I wish they could clone her. And on to 4th grade... we were told that he was getting the best teacher in the school. That's a joke. And she's lucky I'm not filing a lawsuit. Mrs. Hensley. At first glance she seems wonderful. Really nice lady. Then there's the classroom. No desks. But there were bean bags, video game chairs and one flow height table. For 28 kids. No desks. So needless to say he was reallllly distracted. Also the same bully from 2nd grade sat directly next to him. So that was fun. So I went in weekly. Spent countless hours of tutoring outside of school not to mention money... and then we have our parent teacher conference. This woman literally asked me to put my son back in the 3rd grade. 3 months into the year she wants to move him. Then she tells me I need to look into getting him medicated. This woman is not a doctor. She's a teacher. He had been struggling and we were getting him help for that, but she literally suggested meds. Said he probably has add and that he should be on something. And that she has seen it enough to know. Cool. Leave that to a DOCTOR! Also, he had good grades on 3rd grade. So why would I need to put him back in 3rd grade? So I tell her I'm thinking of moving him to a charter school. And then she tells me he should go to her friend Primms school. I'm not really sure how I kept my cook through all of this. But I managed. My husband and I left and immediately enrolled him in Honors Academy of Literature. Which is in Reno. Clear across town. We moved to this neighborhood specifically for Van Gorder. I'm just so bummed. On a bright side we love his new school. He now has all A's and he's happy. They actually enforce their no bullying policy there. I wish i could have gone to his office about things going on, but after everything that has happened I just decided it wasn't worth it. Sorry for the long review. I'm just hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else. I'm giving 2 stars only because of his 3rd grade teacher.
