This new system is so difficult to figure out and I don't understand why Manogue found they needed to switch it. This is a small issue that over time I know all families will just need to learn to love the new system. However, not only has the school's tuition gone up, which causes more financial strain on families but they have started to charge for little things, most recently they have started to charge a $100 schedule change fee. This is absolutely absurd. This is a small request on behalf of a family already paying so much money to attend Manogue and they have the audacity to charge us $100 to try and change a class. I cannot believe that they have gotten to this point. Very disappointed and saddened by this.

The Washoe…read moreCounty School District gets a lot of heat from parents, but I wanted to give them a high-five and give a major shout out to Damonte. My daughter's four years of education was fabulous, the teachers and administration were so supportive. The test of a good school is how well the students perform. Out of the 390 graduates, 151 had an adjusted GPA of 3.8 or better. That comes out to almost 40% of the students graduating with honors. And, I can guarantee that it wasn't because of lax grading. My kid had to work for her grades. The schools expansion a few years ago also alleviated one of its biggest problems, overcrowding. No more temp buildings which is a real positive. To top it all off, the previous couple of years was really tough as there were some tragic deaths of students. The principal, Mr. Bell handled it with true compassion, knowing that the students were badly shaken. Then you add the pandemic on top of it. The way they took all of the road blocks put in front of them made me wish I had gone to a high school like Damonte Ranch. Go Mustangs!!!

It's important to have a clear understanding what your family is signing up for, when you're looking into Montessori education (Seeing complaints about having to attend a pre-application presentation- why is this a problem? This teaching method is very different than what most parents had grown up with. This presentation is not just a 'check-the-box' exercise. It is to be sure you can commit to and subscribe to the methods they employ (as parents are expected to engage in the school and mirror teaching methods in their home environments (the Teachers visit your home to learn about the child's home environment)). Better to find out that's not something you can commit your family to prior to enrolling (vs. finding out after you've started). Children operate in developmental plains and the classrooms and learning materials reflect that. Pre through K (3yrs, same Teacher, same classroom). Grade 1-3, Grade 4-6, Grade 7-8). Learning is crafted around the child's interest, and at the child's pace, to try to instill the desire to explore, learn, and problem solve (rather than being dictated to and introducing learning through memorization). A child is 'on-track' if they're developing towards the next plain of learning (not through an annual calendar progression or standardized testing). There is a time for that but preparing for testing is not the primary focus of this school until they approach middle-school (again, they're focused on ensuring the desire to learn and achieve is fostered). Caring for your community and developing empathy are also core values of the school. Schooling does not have to be a competition (those who are solely signing up for a 'private school' pedigree will likely be disappointed as Montessori is not solely focused on academic achievement). We've found Montessori methods are helping us to mold a young mind into a productive, caring, empathetic, engaged member of their community. To have a desire to explore and learn. That is what we hope to instill in our kid, and reflect in our family and community.

This school in particular with its administration, values chores and task driven activities over academics. We decided to pull our two daughters out of the school and move them to public where services are available and they have improved immensely, but unfortunately, they are still behind all of their peers. Every single staff member we work with in the public school setting tells us the same thing, montessori does not have a high standard in academics as they do not test and score like they don in public schools, which is import to catch where they are behind before it's too late and provide that supplemental support/early intervention. The administrators at MVM knew of the problems our kids were facing because they did do some assessments and said they will catch up but that's what they tell every parent, and coming forward with our story we are finding more and more parents just like us with the same exact story line! We believe this school to be unethical and driving a myth behind the montessori platform. If we could go back and change we would never have look in the direction of MVM.

The faculty is a great mix too, with new teachers and tenured teachers who work very well together to do what is the absolute best for their students. A public school education at Pine will prepare your child for high school and give him or her the exact, right environment to excel out in the real world. Not an education in a bubble, whereby he or she will not be prepared to deal with reality. Many great elective classes are offered within the 8 rotating class schedule of every other day learning with 4 classes per day. Dedicated, devoted, hard-working, student-oriented teachers, staff and admin. Pine is a great school and although the building may not represent what great happenings on going on inside, you can't judge a book by it's cover!! Thank you to all the excellence that goes on inside these walls. We have great sports/athletics programs for our youth too, coached, taught, supervised and assisted by an awesome staff of diverse professionals who provide great role models to the students. He is white and that was a huge problem, I finally told him to stand up for himself and he got suspended for fighting when the staff knew he wasn't the aggressor. And it's my understanding that several teachers have been caught sleeping with students. I know some of us don't have any choices of where we have to live but if you can avoid this area, I would.
