The school did give me mental health problems, but that's mainly my fault for not doing some of my work and leaving me in a rabbit hole. Kids are kind of mean and cocky, something you would see in a private school. I was bullied for not catching dodgeballs zooming past my head at 100mph. The GATE students have their own hierarchy that works mostly the same as the normal students, but it's kinda different. The whole "popular kids" thing is really messed up. No, Alex, just because you hit a ball with a stick and laugh like a monkey should not make you popular. The dean was a little mean to me, but we are on good terms now. The main school does not respect my religion and beliefs. They laughed at me for wearing a cross. If you get put into a cubby, they WILL forget about you. I don't recommend dating anyone because let's be honest-- it's all idiot teenagers in one big building. I've dated twice and both of those experiences sucked booty. The weird gay kids are treated like babies, and it creates an unfair school environment. I don't care if someone made fun of you for being gay, move on. Some good things is the electives, teachers, and lunch times, but most of it is negative. Some staff are rude, but only some. The "phone away all day" is bs because I've seen kids walking with their phones without consequences. Teachers also can be passive aggressive and only treat the popular kids like actual students as someone who has experienced that. That's really all, and if you are looking into this school, I only recommend it if you are in the GATE program.

Very nice for professional musicians to come and spend time to let amateurs know what it takes to hone their craft they love si much. The amateurs comprised of people from all stages in their life, I saw many older musicians along with younger aspiring artists in the band. This is a great worthwhile art to support!

Small classes, individualized attention, clear expectations, and most importantly, mandatory 2-hour study hall resulted in a near perfect GPA after only his first semester at SVA. He's more mature, has gained confidence, and in general seems much happier with his newfound success. Thankfully, he is much more interested in actively defining his future. With the help of his teachers and SVA staff, he applied to several colleges and is very excited about his upcoming Freshman year. We are very proud of our son and are looking forward to seeing his bright future unfold with its many choices. He would certainly not be in this position had he not left the public school in which he was merely average, and attended SVA where he learned to EXCEL! He has learned lessons about himself in the last two years that will stay with him forever. Finally, after taking one semester of SAT prep at SVA, my son's SAT score improved by nearly 200 points (and it was pretty good to start)! That's real and measurable success!

I worked here briefly as an administrator, and unfortunately, it was one of the worst professional experiences I have ever had. The ownership group has attempted to restructure the organization multiple times, but those changes have not addressed the underlying issues with leadership and management. In my experience, the current Director has shown very little concern for the employees, and the impact of that leadership has been significant. From last year to now, the school has reportedly lost a substantial portion of its staff, which should be a major red flag for prospective families. I encourage parents to read the reviews, speak with current and former employees, and do your own research before making a decision. Families deserve to know what they are signing up for.

The basketball team and teachers are so aggressive. My daughter was pushed multiple times and…read morecaused severe damage to her knee which was previously sprained. This is absolutely unacceptable and racist because my daughter was the only one targeted and she is half- African American and the coaches obviously do not care about their reputation, because the constant pushing of my daughter with no repercussions. Also the school lunches here made my daughter throw up. Another teacher yelled at my daughter and her friends while they were attending a basketball game for "being without a parent" when I was right next to them. The teacher they were speaking to kicked her friends out because according to him, "I'm not their mom." This schools behavior is outrageous and I hope it eventually gets shut down. Don't even get me started on their soccer team. One of my daughters went to Shaw while the other goes to another school, I'm so glad I switched my daughter to the same school as the other because this is such horrible treatment, I don't know how I allowed this to happen to my daughter for so long. If I could give this school zero stars I wouldn't hesitate to.
