Last night what I witnessed was a waste of SFPD manpower! There was an over abundance of officers talking to each other that had there had been any shop lifting, the shop lifters would've made it out of there in plenty of time before these officers even had time to react! I'm talking 6 officers were posted there when 2 officers would've been enough! I thought San Francisco was short handed of officers! Poor scheduling of crucial resource out city desperately needs. This location (Powell St, SF) is terrible--I've never had a good experience here. There is one staff member in particular who is very rude and whom I seem to end up with every time. One example: I asked for a specific product and they walked over to an aisle, pointed to it and started to walk away. When I asked a question about it, they just said "Yep" over their shoulder and kept walking. Another time this same person told me they would "check the back" for an item and 10 minutes later had still not returned. I put down my basket of items and left the store, never to return. The counter people are hit and miss. You need to tell them if you are an insider--unlike at other locations where I am always asked. I walked in to get my birthday gift and left with a few items that I could enjoy for my birthday weekend. I was surprised at the low traffic flow at this location on the 23rd of December. I had such a fantastic experience at Sephora, taking advantage of their free facial appointment (which you can schedule in advance on their website). After purchasing a few items online I came across the calendar of events and found something about a free facial. Not knowing what it would be like, I went in and met with Natasha about my face (dry, oily) , the products I use at home (I am a big k beauty person) and what I would like this appointment to provide me with (products, advice, both). If we learn nothing else from this review, Natasha is amazing. After our initial conversation, she grabbed a shopping cart and went around the store grabbing products that she would later apply to my face. She washed my face first and then put on two different kinds of face masks so I could see which I liked more. I ended up purchasing one of them because it was so moisturizing. She then applied a 6-step facial routine, explaining why she chose each item and how it would benefit my face - even comparing everything to the products I have at home. I left Sephora feeling fresh and clean, and very light even with all of the products on my face. I drilled her with questions throughout and she was so nice and helpful, and I actually returned much of what I had ordered (a few days before my appointment) and replaced them with a few items she used on me because I loved them so much. This is a free service. I really think everyone should be taking advantage of this! All of the staff I came into contact with at this location were lovely. This Sephora location is a gold standard of an exemplary customer service. Every time I come in, there's always a staff member who'd greet me and ask if I need any help. Even the guards are very friendly and polite. No matter how busy this place gets (and weekends here tend to be quite hectic) there will always be someone who will offer their assistance so you're not stranded in the store. I have to also note how knowledgeable and resourceful the staff is. I can say for both make up and skin care. It's amazing to be listened to and to be heard and advised the right product for your needs instead of just be given something trendy in hopes that it would work. What blows me away with this Sephora is that the employees here are so friendly and LET you shop. They do not bug you, but they are there if you need them. They do not put up a front and they are just themselves helping another makeup/skin lover out. If you want a great experience at Sephora, then definitely check this one out. Today I stopped my to redeem my July PLAY pass for bonus points, but could not find it in my app. I found it but it was labeled June and not July and expired on July 31, which was confusing because I just received my box a couple of weeks ago. But when I got home I found the paper pass and noticed it doesn't expire until the end of August! Very inconvenient and misleading. I hope it gets resolved. read more

Went in on my birthday 2/20/24 for an ultimate glam appointment. I came in excited and on time ready to be glammed up. The makeup artist was really nice although it took him like 10 -15 minutes to come from the back. He started my make up and as soon as he started with the eyeshadow I knew. I kept taking glances at my face noticing that my make up is not looking how I imagined he already told me the first look I wanted he didn't have the materials for which is crazy we're literally in the makeup store anyway I let him keep going incase I'm jumping the broom. My friend who was with me had to walk away and "trust the process because it was that bad. Eyebrows terribly down eyeshadow was not blended what so ever. He also skipped a key part in eyeshadow which is primer for the color to stick. This man put the shadow straight on my eyelids like what??? He must could sense I was not happy anymore as he asked if everything was ok. It was not and I had to let him know as nicely as I could I don't like it. Plus I do my make up and get it done frequently. He starts to redo the brow and when I tell you I had to be on plunked because he just drew a huge black log on my eyebrow. At that point I was done and told him I need to cancel since they had no other artist there. This was the worst experience I've had at Sephora Powell. He is not a makeup artist and my birthday was ruined. I ended up going to emeryville Sephora and got help to just do it my damn self and I came out great! read more

I really like this Sephora because even on busy popular days I can always manage to find some staff member to help me and if they can't help me they're redirect me to someone who can. The last time I came I was looking for a NARS Danceteria lip velvet dupe because they discontinued my favorite color. I wanted to replicate the same smooth liquidy formula and application and also the color. I probably had about 3 people help me and the last person finally found a similar dupe. Love Sephora and this store at powell is beautiful. However staff here are not the nicest and a few of them have such an attitude! Some are super nice but then some are just plain rude. An older lady with bleached blonde hair in the perfume department forced herself to say hi to me with a death stare when I walked by, as she was busy gossiping with an even older Sephora employee and clearly I was disturbing their gossip hour (how do they have jobs?) When I asked her for a certain scent and asked which one it was she said it was this one and when I hesitated and asked for another perfume she cut me off mid sentence! And then she said am I going to buy it or not? Not sure it matters to her or why she was so hostile about it? I asked for a sample and she was clearly annoyed, made it and handed it to me with her back to me and I decided to leave. I purchased the perfume online instead. read more

Sephora on Powell, I adore you! This place gets quite packed and busy, but the staff didn't fall short of helping anyone, especially "Jessica". Jessica recognized that I needed assistance, and came to my rescue. I needed a few things, and like a Sephora multi-tasking beauty ninja that she is, Jessica handled all of my needs with such patience and care. I loved all of the items she selected for me: Laura Mercier oil free tinted moisturizer in Tawny, Tarte Day Liner, Fenty Yacht Lyfe blush stick and Fenty Match Stix in Maple (love the array of shades and magnetic feature). I also picked up Fenty Invisimatte. This is probably the first time that a Sephora rep got everything right; from the matching of product, skin tone, etc. Thank you, Jessica! I was also happy with my check-out experience. There was a friendly gal at the register. It was her first day on the job, but she handled my transaction like a pro. As a heterosexual male who presents as straight, I'm used to not getting great customer service at Sephora because I probably don't look like their typical customer. I've had good, mediocre, and bad experiences at Sephora, but what happened today was the worst. Came in on a Monday morning for a sample. The Filipino girl with tattoos and bleached hair was super helpful in assisting me with some samples. The floor manager comes over and aggressively takes my information so send me information about the product. Whatever, I didn't think much of it, at the time. I made a purchase of facial wipes, took my sample and left on my way. My wife notices my samples from Sephora and it's something she wants to try too. So she takes the sample and I think, no worries, I work close by Sephora, I'll get another sample for myself. It's the following Monday and I come back to this location to ask for another sample. I'm greeted by a different sales associate who is friendly, upbeat, and eager to assist. She takes the item I want to sample and goes to the area where samples are created. On our way there, the aggressive floor manager recognizes me from the previous week and asks me how I liked the samples from last week. Her intent clearly wasn't to gauge my experience with the product. I explain that I didn't get to try much of the sample because my wife liked the samples and I let her try it instead. I explained that I was here to get another sample that I wouldn't share with my significant other this time. Instead of saying, "Oh, I'm glad your wife was interested and got to try the product, let's get a sample ready to make sure YOU can try it this time", or something along those lines. the floor manager rolls her eyes and grunts in disbelief. A full-on audible grunt as to immediately dismiss my story! She then makes a side comment to the sales associate assisting me and suddenly the sale associates demeanor changes too! She's no longer friendly, upbeat, or talkative. Her energy totally changed and immediately this became a poor experience. She aggressively asked me to enter my customer linked information and didn't say another word to me. The whole interaction turned from super pleasant to extremely awkward and maddening in a matter of moments. To top it off, the sample she prepared for me was insultingly small, much smaller than the original sample I gave to my wife. I knew instantly that it wouldn't be enough for a proper use so I just tossed in the bin on Powell St. on my way out. This is easily the worst customer experience I've ever had in a retail shop. I'm livid as I type this. Nordstrom carries this same product I was interested in, so I will definitely not be purchasing this from Sephora. read more

The selection is always good, though, yes they'll run of things only due to popularity and being highly trafficked. I've taken beauty classes here, gotten my makeup done by the fabulous Chelsea and have received great personal customer service. I think a part of this is how I end up being VIB Rogue. LOL They do open early at 9AM so try to come before lunch to avoid chaos. I paid for my items and she didn't wrap it. So I had to ask her and I assume she's going to wrap it because she GRABBED BOTH of my items. She only ended up wrapping the cologne and I thought she wrapped them both together. I almost ended up walking away without the matching deodorant and -$22 out of my pocket because of her lack of common sense. Like why are you fiddling around with the tissue paper if you're not wrapping peoples stuff? And it doesn't kill you to move at a faster pace. I never have felt rushed or followed and I am a young black female, if anybody would be stereo typed, it would be me. Miguel who works in the perfume department is really super helpful. He gives good suggestions and advice. There was a guy named Chris there before who was amazing and I thought nobody could match him but Miguel is amazing. Go see them and judge for yourself. I rarely walk into a Sephora. Mainly due to the fact that I lack that disposable income and that income I do have that is somewhat disposable goes straight to food and travel. However, about twice a year, Sephora sends me a coupon giving me a reason to grab a few items I've been contemplating. Cue me receiving that $15 off coupon. The place was pretty packed on a weekday at about 2:30pm. Yes, it's the holidays. But, dang. Don't people work/go to school? I literally had to shove my way thru, but what stood out was that the employees were still smiling and still super available to help answer questions. They were prepared for the masses with a ton of people at the registers and even some mobile checkout stations making it seamless and quick. It took me a while but I am a Sephora VIB and a couple hundred bucks short of Rouge status! I normally go to Sephora at Stonestown but I stopped by this particular location because I was running an errand. The selection at this Sephora is top notch, there is practically every brand you can imagine and lots of stock. They also carry Pat McGrath which is to die for. They had plenty of Huda Beauty, Fenty Beauty, and Charlotte Tilbury which is typically sold out at their other locations. I also discovered other brands I would not have had I gone to the smaller Sephoras. I had a facial here as well since I spent $75 and the person who helped me was knowledgeable and recommended some great products for me to use. I now have a skin care routine and already my skin is glowing. 5 stars from me all the way because of the customer service. I was watching a video on YouTube about Sephora and it sparked me to write a review about this location since the service here is very poor . First off , in spring 2016, I was shopping for a KVD lipstick but didn't know which shade would look nice on my skin tone so I swatched some on my wrist and was looking for the makeup remover to remove it . I guess since I was walking around looking for it, they thought I was stealing because an employee behind me raised her hand on top of my head and said," Keep an eye out on her," to her fellow coworkers and security guard . They didn't even bother to at least ask me if I needed help. Second thing, this place is soooo understaffed . Every time I walk in here , I know what I want and what I need help with but can rarely find employees to help me . I usually walk around just to find an employee to help me and that takes a while . Third , well third thing isn't negative at all . There was an employee that was sooo nice to my friend and I . She recommended products and did the foundation color match and gave us samples. I don't remember her name but I think it was Kristina ? Don't know but I remember that she was Japanese ! She gave such wonderful customer service that my friend and I offered to do a survey for her on the iPad. Also , the temporary Sephora in Westfield (which is now close because that Sephora was only opened since this location was under construction) security guard was following me around thinking that I was stealing just because I was holding onto a lipstick debating if I should buy it since I didn't know if the shade looked nice on me cause a majority of their testers were gone. This Sephora is cutting edge! They have so many cool programs. Today, I spent more than 2 hours exploring Sephora. First off, I got a complimentary mini facial. They tried various products on our face- double cleansing, exfoliator, toner, serum, moisturizer, and anything else that we were worried about. I wanted to try some product to help some discoloration on my face, my sister was worried about her blackheads, and my mom anti aging. They were able to help us with all our needs. Since we loved what they selected for us, we bought quite a bit to take home and add to our regimen as well. My sister and aunt tried the facial, which required a minimum $75 purchase, but they both loved it and thought it hydrated yet cleaned their face well. THANK YOU TO CHELSEA, MICHELLE, and MANDY! Another cool aspect of this Sephora is their do it yourself bar. The application is able to use the camera to apply various makeups to see what it would look like and then show you what product it is. It also has tutorials to give you step by step guides on how to apply makeup. It's a perfect way to learn if the staff is too busy but the staff is always super helpful as well! read more

I came in at 7:30 pm on a Monday night and it was pretty busy. Still, it wasn't hard to find someone to help me color match. Chanel helped with finding a color for foundation and Dalena seconded her recommendation, but they both encouraged me to look in the mirror to make sure I agreed. The jokes and banter between them made me feel at ease and happy to be in a friendly environment. I was looking for a concealer as well and they weren't hesitant to tell me that the concealer I was considering might not be suitable for me, as I'd mentioned that I don't use makeup very often. I really appreciated their recommendations for an alternate one, and Dalena helped me color match that as well. When I realized I forgot to grab the foundation we'd decided on, Chanel remembered which one the color was and was quick to get it for me! I was impressed by the service I received here and am thankful for the help from Chanel and Dalena. read more

I love Sephora for many years and have spent thousands of dollars there. I don't live close to one now so I went on line to order a Christmas present for my friend in another state. I placed my order and the email acknowledgment said you have up to one hour to cancel. I realized within ten minutes that I ordered the wrong scent. I rembered that my friend told me the color! So I called up to change it but he said he couldn't and he said no problem to cancel . He put me on hold for a minute and when he came back he said sorry can't change or cancel it. I asked for a manager. She said she could request from distribution to cancel but there was a 50/50 chance of it actually working. To me this is not good customer service. Long time ago, I came here and one of the makeup artists was completely disgusted with me when I didn't know the difference between a concealer and a coverup. I've come a long way since my college days and so have the makeup artists. I met Adriana, an artist AND makeup artist that was VERY knowledgeable about the products. I was very concerned about using natural products and she definitely knew my style exactly! I had just come from work and my awesome friend Ashleigh P. bought a $50 birthday gift for me from Sephora. It was the night of Yelp Prom and I was trying to go from after-work crab to party-girl glam within one hour! (See the before/after pics!) She was awesome! She got rid of my dark circles (Harte), primed my eye shadow (urban decay), glammed up my lashes with vitamin E and conditioner (oops, forgot the brand! But it's black with pink flower designs), arched my eyebrows (Anastasia). AND she conditioned my skin with Josie Maran Argan oil and Argan milk. SO DELICIOUS for my skin! I definitely went a little crazy beyond my $50 limit. She was also VERY thorough with my makeup application. She spent so much time and I was even 30 minutes late to my appointment (gotta love Bay Area traffic) and she didn't rush at all. The only thing is that it does get pricey. Today (10/16/2015)at 2:30-3:00 pm I had an awful experience. I worked out earlier and I just came in from the gym with no makeup on and I still had my workout clothes on. I know I'm going to a makeup store with no makeup on but who cares-- I'm a customer and everyone should be treated as such. The store associate who was supposed to help me with the dip brow pomade made a look of dismay on her face when she saw she had to help me. Later, she asked if I wanted to try the brow product on and I said yes. I wanted to buy it for someone else, but since we have similar hair it should've been fine. She didn't even put the product on my brows. She just showed me the steps on her hand. In my head I was thinking what was she doing? I wanted her to try it on my face so I can see if the product is something my friend would like. She even told me that since it's waterproof, she wears it to the gym all the time. I'm not sure if she was being snarky by commenting that even at the gym, you can still wear makeup therefore you should, I'm not going to exactly nix on her that, but still. I had no desire to buy anything from her. Today with my lack of makeup, the sales associates just weren't up to par. They think that just because I decided to not wear makeup while working out (which is disgusting any ways-- who wants their mascara and eyeliner to run down their face), that I didn't know anything about makeup. However, last week when I went in without makeup (I was just lazy that day), a girl named Kim S. was so nice, informative, and just bubbly.
