This was easily one of the worst customer service experiences I've had at a Sephora. I came in around 12:30 PM to pick up an online order placed the day before. I told the greeter I was there for pickup and was directed to stand in a line of about 10 people. That alone defeats the entire purpose of ordering online. After I pushed back, she called for help. Another associate came over...only to tell me the exact same thing, to get in line. At that point, I said cancel the order and started to leave. As I'm walking out, she says "you can cancel the order" in a dismissive tone. So I walked back in and asked for the manager. Of course, the person giving the attitude was the manager, Blanca. Instead of resolving anything, she tells me she's busy helping another customer and can't grab my order. Then follows me to the door continuing to explain how busy the store is and that they've had "issues." None of that is the customer's problem. What's wild is that the store was full of associates, yet no one could take 30 seconds to retrieve a prepaid order. No ownership. No urgency. No accountability. I canceled my order with customer service immediately after and will not be returning to this location. If you actually want a seamless experience, go to Tysons Corner, One Loudoun, or Mosaic instead. read more

This location is always busy and not my go to but usually has products a closer location does not. This review is for the makeup artist Liv. I'm always a little nervous if a makeup artist can do make up for my skin tone but Liv didn't hesitate and jumped right in with her sparkling g personality. She asked for my photo inspiration and provided recommendation to best match the look I was going for. She is so knowledgeable and I can't wait to go back for a class. I highly recommend for anyone who is struggling for an artist to bring out their best. read more

I also had to go to this location because the Dulles location was out of a certain color. The only issue I have is that is hard to find parking, but that does not take away from the store itself, again immediately greeted, and assisted with all of my questions, even made wonderful recommendations and told me about my points I could use for free gifts, which I did!!! I have never really shopped at Sephora, only a couple of times over many years; however, I will definitely make this my go to over Ulta or Macy's Beauty or any other other competitors. This is a very nice Sephora store. I don't go to malls often, but whenever I do, I find myself being drawn by the black and white stripes. Being in Reston Town Center for a week for a conference, I'd pass by the store each day and finally gave in on a Friday and went inside. RTC was busy with it being Friday evening. Even though there were a bunch of shoppers in the store, because it's a large store, it didn't feel crowded at all. I hit up the skin care section to check out moisturizers. One of the Beauty Specialists helped me out, demo-ing the product and even gave me a sample, which has never happened to me before at other Sephoras. (After using the sample at home, I'll end up buying this product on their website after I finish what I purchased at the Reston store). She was very knowledgeable about their product inventory, and she took time to check out the ingredients with me. For me, this is important to me - knowing what exactly my skin will be absorbing - and I'm glad that Sephora stresses this, too. Afterwards, I checked out the Kat Von D Beauty display out of curiosity, and then perused the rest of the store. The line at the register went quickly, and the woman who helped me out that day was nice. She also reminded me that I was eligible to pick up my free birthday gift. I like that you have two options to choose from for the freebie. The current selection is displayed towards the entrance of the store, so you can inspect them in more detail before queuing up in line. Overall, I had a great shopping experience at this Sephora location. I would come back again if I am near Reston Town Center! read more

Walked in here with a pocket full of cash that I wanted to spend. The store had three workers busily assisting each other with gossip. I asked for a particular bronzer, they said they didn't carry it in store, I would have to order it online and went back to their gossip. My daughter and I browsed for over a half hour, no one asked if they could help us. She got her free birthday gift and I left with my pocket full of cash to spend elsewhere. It was a very cheap lesson to shop elsewhere. read more

This Sephora has a great location in Reston Town Center. While it is not the largest of The Sephora locations I frequent, it is spacious and well laid out. I wanted to book an appointment for a makeup application- but it seemed there were none available on the Monday I was there. Perhaps Monday staffing does not allow for makeup applications. The staff was helpful and friendly always perky. But thankfully not as aggressive in the past when they quickly ask if they can help you and then just as quickly walk away! read more

This is the most disgusting Sephora that I have ever had the displeasure of walking in to. Makeup brand kiosks are a mess with smudged makeup all over the products. Testers are sufficiently unusable and actively drive the customer away from the product. Stock is also insufficient as they are consistently out of multiple products over multiple brands. To top it off, this is the only Sephora I have ever been to in which I was never approached by a floor sales associate to assist me. read more

I'm the past I have dreaded going to this Sephora because I could never get the assistance I needed and some of the staff especially the manager (who had weird colored hair and horrible makeup) was super rude and refused to help my "brand new to makeup" self to figure this make up thing out. I was never planning on going back to that store. Recently I went because I had gotten a makeover and it was a completely different place! I had Becca do my face and she was amazing! Super nice explained everything that she was doing and why she was doing it. I walked away knowing more than I did when I walked in and definitely bought everything she used on me. I've been to this Sephora a ton of times in the past few years and for the most part everyone is super friendly. Now, the overall store is always clean and everyone is helpful. I've only had one bad experience where I was clearly bothering the sales associate but I've only seen her that one time Yesterday, I ran in to grab something and was helped by Becca who was phenomenal! Honestly, she was not only very educated on the products but provided me with information about my beauty perks that I probably should have been told about multiple times previous to this encounter. I was completely disgusted by one of your workers name Jessica. She should be ashamed of herself. I was chatting with an old patient while her husband was in line to check out. Her husband bought not one but three items of this super expensive perfume for his wife (each bottle was $135 each). So while waiting for her husband to finish we for chatting a bit.... Jessica RUDELY came up to us...interrupted and said hey guys can you move closer to the door because we're closing and it's time to leave. Who does that?!!! I work in procedures all day I wish I could be so ignorant to tell the last patient hey can you hurry up and recover because it's time to go. It left a very bad taste....do better Jessica. I'm convinced this location has an issue with people of color. Every time I go into this location the staff seems annoyed that I want help and/or disengaged. Even when I attempt to be warm and friendly, it's met with nonchalant responses and disregard. Today, there was a very nice young man who works there that made me feel welcomed and human, but everyone else made me feel like I didn't belong. I actually wanted to look around and browse, but I was so uncomfortable I just bought what I needed and left. It's unfortunate because this is the most convenient location if you live in Reston/Herdon, but I'm tired of not feeling welcomed. If anyone from HQ reads this, please fix your diversity and customer relations policies. Every client should have a good experience and (at least) feel welcomed. Spacious spot and great location. Get your Starbucks and walk on over. Bright lights help you choose your right shade and perfect color. Could the staff be nicer? Really depends on the day you go. Went in one evening alone and was greeted immediately and offered assistance. Went in one morning with my kids and was offered nothing but nasty looks whispers in my direction. Sad. Joni is very helpful - I went in specifically for some Bare Minerals and left with some lip moisturizer, lip gloss, mascara, rollerball, and makeup setting spray. Yeah, I have a problem.....It's the main reason why I try to avoid makeup and office supply stores. I like to buy things that I think I may need, but they end up taking space instead. Personal problems aside, Sephora is like a museum to me, I have to look at everything. The store is clean/neat and the sales reps were helpful. They were able to help me find all the things I 'needed,' and then some. The only thing that I would like Sephora to do is alphabetize the different makeup brands. I loved this location ! I have been to many Sephora's in both Florida and VA. And this one has been by far my favorite ! It was the Marine Corps Birthday Ball , so I came in to get my makeup done. Lucy did it , and she did a fantastic job ! After a late night , I fell asleep with my full face on and woke up looking like I could walk right out the door ! The Sephora team at this location was all wonderful , kind and friendly. I am so glad I decided to come to this location. They have plenty of brands and you will definitely find what you are searching for. BUT as some has reviewed before me - this is the store where no one offers their help without you asking for it. They were all gathered around the cashier. For me personally this is not a problem, I am Swedish and used to Swedish store staff and I prefer browsing the shelves by myself, being left alone and asking for help when I need it. In support of the numerous disastrous reviews of the appalling lack of customer service at this location (Reston Town Center) written by other neglected customers below, I'll add my own experience as validation. Avoid this store if you need to interact with a human. In fact, the "humans" who inhabit this store seem to have been kidnapped and replaced with Sephora Stepford Employees who have the ability to look *right at distraught customers needing help* and never even see them standing there. I've been a Sephora customer for many years, both to buy products for myself and for my girlfriends. There are many exceptionally good locations -- Tysons, for example -- and you will always get courteous, informed help there. I don't have a clue what is wrong with the customer service at Reston Town Center location. From my observations, the sales associates: 1. Stand in clusters of 2, 3, or 5 and talk excitedly among themselves while aggressively ignoring everything that happens around them. If they trained them to ignore customers, they've done an exceptionally good job of it! This happens when there are 3 or 4 or more bewildered customers wandering around trying to find products, prices or explanations of the ever-changing branding of cosmetics. 2. If you are a male -- and I mean one dressed in an Armani suit who looks like the kind of person who is really going to buy something, not guys just wandering around -- you have crossed over into the Twilight Zone. You have gone from invisible to non-existent. There is no chance -- none whatsoever -- that any salesperson is going to help you, especially if you are visibly distressed because you can't find the product you are looking for; can't find prices because none are on display; and can't even find a product you just bought last month because they move the product inventory on what seems like an hourly basis. 3. I've been in this store at least 10 times (it's a block away from where I live) and I have never -- not once -- been asked if I needed help. I've learned that Sephora turns out to be a great place if you want to be invisible. In some cases, this can be a plus as you can experiment with colognes and scents on your own, but the problems start when you can't find your favorite cologne; all the magnetic labels have disappeared on the row of colognes (all of them) and then you find a new one, only to discover there is no information anywhere on how much it costs. 4. I finally went to the check-out counter where there were again 3 salespeople happily talking among themselves and ignoring everybody, until I stood right in front of one (I am 6' tall) and something snapped in her cerebral cortex and she realized a customer was there. She asked if I needed help and I said "Yes, I'd like to know how much this costs because there is no pricing anywhere in the display area for it." "Oh, that's $93," she tells me, helpfully adding "it's the largest size we carry." 5. Not wanting to be a trouble-maker, I explain in my most diplomatic tone that this is not true, and walk over, pick up the next larger size, and show that to her. She didn't miss a beat. "Oh yes, they come in larger sizes." I wonder if she realized what she had just said to me, or even cared. 6. I asked to speak to the manager, because I'd already spent 3x the amount of time any normal sentient primate should need to spend in a store to buy products that the customer already KNOWS she or he wants to buy, and I was informed, after explaining how aggressively men are ignored in the store that -- She wanted to "clarify the misconception that men are treated differently." I explained twice more that as a man who had been to the store on many occasions, I had witnessed this treatment every time, and that repeated experience sort of, well, you know, actually matters, but she was having none of THAT. How dare a CUSTOMER challenge what was "official store propaganda?" (Oh, sorry, I mean "policy."). How dare a customer challenge the manager? If anybody at Sephora senior management reads these reviews (and check out the historical reviews below that validate this practice) you need to know that it's going to cost you in sales. We can order everything we need online from Amazon these days and don't even need to set foot in a Sephora again. I'm sure many of us would feel more visible to the Amazon online software that executes our orders for us than we are by the Sephora Stepford salespeople who are there to catch up with their friends. One imagines they must complain bitterly among themselves, "Who ever asked these, ugh, customers, to show up and bother us?" Except for the men, of course. I do like this location in comparison to others. There is always someone to greet me, someone always asks if they can help me, and its not super crowded in comparison to other stores. Not to mention I forgot my Sephora card to get points, and they couldn't find me in the system (probably like everywhere else when I sign up for something my last name is misspelled). At any rate the cashier told me to call the toll free number and they could credit the points from my purchase to my card. read more

It was a beautiful day to wander the town center, I needed new moisturizer, and my friend had been needing to schedule a makeup session for her wedding at SOME point, so we made our way to this Sephora. They were really helpful about booking appointments for us (we figured this location would be less chaotic than Tyson's) without pushing us (maybe that'll come after the makeup session?). We then proceeded to wander the store, comparing what brands we use and of course lamenting whether or not any of this stuff actually works to make it worth the cost. Eventually I bought the moisturizer I initially went in there for while waiting for a coworker to finish painting her nails. All in all, a fun place to stop in and spend some time browsing everything and trying samples. You can easily get sucked into buying a ton of stuff. read more

Only making a review because I have had too many bad experiences at this specific sephora. I've been told "i'm busy" or just entirely dismissed when asking an associate for help several times but today has been the most annoying and frustrating experience yet. I am going on a trip tomorrow and bought one of my essentials an hour before closing. When I get home, I realize that the entire "new" package is open and missing the entire powder. I come back exactly 5:59pm on the dot just to ask for an exchange and in the middle of my sentence I am immediately cut off by the associate at the door where literally yells "we're closed" in front of a whole group of people. It was quite frankly embarrassing and disrespectful. I personally have worked in the retail industry and understand that this can be a frustrating occurrence but this is absolutely unacceptable behavior towards customers. But they're only getting 3 stars - and I won't be returning - because they're no longer allowed to put makeup on customers even if you're buying. That is ridiculous. Terrible customer service here. We are VIB Rouge Members and have never experienced something like this before. Got rang up for Avi and she had a horrible attitude toward my mother and I. Rude, demeaning, and unapologetic even when a manager came over to diffuse the matter. I hope that Sephora reads this and retrains your staff. I'm afraid I have to echo the sentiments of a few other reviewers here -- service is really this place's downfall. The store is clean and there are tons of products and it's well-stocked, so those would be the good points. I was there on a Wednesday about 5:15. The store perhaps had about 5 patrons in it, but many more salespeople. Some were helping customers and interacting with them, but many more were not. I was in search of a good dry shampoo and there were a lot of choices. I needed help figuring them out. Salespeople just flitted past me as if I wasn't there. For 30 MINUTES. 30 minutes! I finally had enough and decided to leave the store. On my way out was when I was asked what I needed help finding. I said to the young lady, "Are you kidding me? I was in here for 30 minutes and you said nothing at all to me. And now that I'm leaving, you'd like to talk? No. No thank you. I'll take my business elsewhere." With that, I was out the door. This has all the makings of a great store, but service will be the reason I don't shop here. read more

I came here to finally use the gift card I got months ago, and had a pleasant shopping experience. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and handed a small basket to put my items in. The lady at the soap and glory station was very nice and even tried some items on me. The flake away body scrub has become one of my faves. This is my go-to Sephora because it's closest to me, and they always seem to be in stock of the products that are sold out in other locations. I've also gotten my makeup done a few times at the beauty studio, and I absolutely love my experiences with Kayleigh and Maryam! They know exactly how I like my makeup done after I told them the first time, and they do an amazing job on dramatic eye makeup! They are always extremely helpful, as well as a few of the other employees. However, there are a few employees I always see there who seem to have really condescending attitudes. They just look at you when you walk in and don't offer to help, and sometimes, even when they do, they seem annoyed by you saying yes. I've just learned not to even expect them to help at all when I walk in, and instead go directly to the people who have been a huge help before. I prefer this location because it's not as crazy crowded as Tyson's and it's closer to me than others. I have personally had a great experience, but I can see why the reviews are so low after experiencing some of the employees' rude attitudes. read more

Amazing selection of all the brands you want and quality generic (Sephora) store brand alternatives. This store is huge--one of the bigger collections I've seen in the area. Conveniently located in the Reston Town Center by my favorite happy hour spot, the lights, colors and the lingering pleasant floral scent of Sephora draws me in from the street more often than not. Once inside, I am treated to a huge array of try before you buy products that meet all my beauty needs (and help me discover some I didn't even know I had!!). I sample every shade of lip color before I buy so I am not disappointed with my purchase after I get home. At almost $30 for a tube of lipstick, I almost can't afford not to do so! One great thing about this shop is their generosity with samples. If I try a new perfume and am not sure whether it's for me or not, I can ask for take home samples from the bottle and try again a different day before I commit to buy. The sales staff is friendly and helpful without being officious or pushy. I recommend the VIB club (you register with an email) through which you gain points for every product you buy. When you reach at least 100 points, you get to trade them in for a deluxe sample--for 500 points, you get a nice collection of samples. Oh and you receive a free beauty birthday sample or full-sized gift. read more

Don't bother spending your money here. I rather order online. This location sucks. I was going to spend over $100 in skin care product refills until I was so turned off by the sales associates. They seem so bothered when you ask for samples and apparently only 3 is the limit regardless of what you spend. They push products on you and follow you around like flies on crap. God forbid you ask for an extra sample even when spending money. I had to swap a sample. They even follow you around to make sure none of the other sales associates give you samples which I found hilarious, the extent this old lady went to for me not to sample a cleanser when I'm spending money and the store isn't even busy. She even watched me have a conversation with another team member asking about a product to make sure I did not receive another sample. How embarrassing. Terrible customer service. read more

I love sephora and I've always had positive experiences at all the stores I've visited except this one so I spoke to them about it (because the location is great and I'd really like to keep going there, but wasn't going to if I kept having bad experiences) and they were really responsive which is a sign of a great company. There is NOTHING like color matching in the gorgeous natural light of this store. The managers are total sweethearts, busy as all getout, but sweethearts none the less. (This store is always bustling with customers, and I find that to be a good sign) I was shocked to read there were anything but positive reviews for this place. My returns are always taken with a smile (which I can't say for many other large retailers out there), they are always happy to offer me new and very educated recommendations, and how they do it all with those headsets on is beyond me! I can't imagine it being easy of offer customer service to one person, while another employee could be asking you a question in the other ear. Talk about talent! Not to mention they have hundreds of product lines to keep track of. If you've ever worked retail, you surly would agree it couldn't be easy.
