Came here looking for a specific product as a gift for someone, however they did not have what I was looking for. That could be for a couple of reasons. One is that their perfume section is not very big at all. Another reason was that I felt like there were too many people inside for my liking. I had attempted to maneuver myself to the perfume area but no matter what I did I could not get there. The aisles are way too small for the store that only allows for one person to be in them at a time. Where the store lacked appeal for shopping they made up for in customer service. When I finally did get to the area I looked about and an associate came over to ask me if I needed help. I told her what I was looking for and she was able to already know that they did not carry it. Most times that would be a negative view of a business, but not here. What the associate did do was to inform me where I could locate what I needed. She didn't stop there, she ended up letting me know exactly where it would be in the store. She was helpful in that sense. I suppose it didn't hurt that since they didn't carry the item it wasn't going to hurt their business. read more

I love this location. LOVE it. The employees are knowledgeable and friendly, which makes it easy to approach them whenever I have dumb questions. And they never make me feel stupid for asking them! They're relatable and always respectful. One of the main reasons I like coming here is for the employees. There's an AWESOME selection of makeup and care projects available. I've always been able to find what I needed and more. Even though there's so much, the store is very easy to navigate. I highly suggest some of the current employees at this Sephora location gain a better understanding of beauty, Sephora products, and empathy for people overall. I've been to this Sephora for several years, numerous locations around the country and world, and have been a rouge member for over eight years so my experience with Sephoras and a variety of employees is fairly well-versed. I wouldn't even complain about the employees not acknowledging me/certain customers but the treatment at this location the evening of 9/29 was quite disrespectful and embarrassing for the employees. I knew what product type I was looking for but wanted to ask if there are any other options the employee knew of that I hadn't been aware of, and instead of helping in any way she continuously picked on the semantics of my wording/description and how that wouldn't be how she would describe it. Since I knew of some examples, I tried to give one and she cut me off before I could get a fourth word out. I can't even imagine how uncomfortable and unwelcome she would make someone who is apprehensive and less experienced with Sephora products. As I was checking out later, she and another employee loudly (perhaps purposely) in an act strongly reminiscent of small-minded, shallow, gossiping children discussed how they don't like the product type I was looking for and continued for a while to converse condescendingly about all the problems they think it has. Please keep in mind that I never insisted on anything and simply said oh ok thanks when I realized I wouldn't be helped before moving on and never expressed any sort of negativity to not being helped or listened to. Also, this was about looking for a powder puff -- so in my opinion from doing makeup for performances and etc. for over 15 years -- to go on extensively about how horrible powder puffs are for setting powder (something increasingly common and liked today) only shows a lack of competence and extraordinary arrogance despite it. I didn't ask for anything out of the norm, the employees have no idea what I would personally use the product for anyways, and the perpetuation of exclusion and righteousness only shows a shallow and small mind (let alone a clear inability to understand makeup). read more

The director of the SEPHORA on Walnut Street, Colleen Lepovich, is seen on her personal page Facebook account in a post which I shared and responded to in the first screen shot (far left), where in she states that I was simply a disgruntled customer that shouldn't be listened to in response to a review I left on the Sephora Shadyside FB page detailing a terrible experience there 1/4/2021. The two screen shots (middle and right) are of my review where in I describe the experience. Unbeknownst to me my review on 1/4/21 triggered a diversity and inclusion training as well as some news media coverage. It's sad that despite that training the director remains comfortable microagressing black customers and attempting to silence us. More interesting still is that black female make up artists who had worked at that location for years all left within weeks of each other shortly after sales goals began to focus on aggressively selling credit cards. What made coming to Sephora great was the sense of community and education we received when I would get there and see people who looked like me that gave honest opinions, advice, and tips on what to buy. As long as Sephora is no longer interested in fostering these kinds of relationships with their clients that make them want to come back by making credit and 3 in the basket a priority, they will continue to lose long time customers and talented black staff. But I'm sure they are used to the bad press about that. read more

I went in yesterday a few hours before meeting up with a friend for a gift exchange, no gift. Yikes right? No pressure. One of their employees asked me what I was looking for and, not really expecting to get much more than a shrug and maybe a "good luck", told her what I was doing. In less than 15 minutes she'd found me several options that fit my budget and my very general description of what I thought my friend would like, and I walked out with a cure magnetic closed gift box filled with gifts and samples. Which is all just to say the staff here is phenomenal. If they have what you're looking for in the store, you can rest assured the staff will find it for you. Great experience overall. read more

I must say, everyone that works there was extremely helpful, they did not make me feel like I was being bombarded with people trying to sell me something. If it has to do with makeup, nails, or hair I don't play! I'll wear a burlap sack as long as my makeup is on point. When I walk in the door they know that I'm serious about my makeup. There have been times where I have left because somebody didn't help me soon enough. When I do get somebody who greets me right away and helps me I expect free samples of things especially because I spend no less than $300 every time I'm there. I even bring friends and buy them stuff too! There's some girls here that really hook you up with samples and others are super stingy which is ridiculous. If I'm buying an $80 product in one shade and tell you I tan and want to try a sample of it in a different shade just give me my sample! ^_^ This store is very cramped, be prepared to rub elbows and say "excuse me" and "sorry" a lot. I got my makeup done at this Sephora for my rehearsal dinner, and it was the best service I've ever received at a Sephora. I was visiting from out of town, and I was so blown away by how sweet and friendly the associates were. The associate who did my makeup was extremely knowledgeable and I tried to figure out her name, but couldn't get a hold of the store! The associate was able to create a very natural glowy look that didn't look like I had makeup caked on. If you're considering getting lashes during your makeover, I recommend upgrading to the $17 eyelashes that look very natural, as opposed to the $10 ones I've had them do before. Overall, I just want to give props to the team for an awesome makeover, and the associate who did my makeup (she had short brownish red hair and worked in theater before this). read more

I went into this store for the first time. It is much smaller than most Sephora stores but still full of life. The associates were all very friendly and wanting to help. Watch out for the virtual mirror assistants, they will get you like it got me! I was just walking by and caught a glimpse of myself in this beautiful deep pink lipstick and suddenly I was on the hunt. Only one thing: the screen was slightly broken therefore it wouldn't stay on a color that you wanted to see. A lovely associate came over and helped me to find the two shades of lip color that I had found by accident. One a vibrant purple, the other a deep pink. Checkout was quick and painless. Cute little store; it can be a pain to navigate while crowded. Can't wait to come back again! read more

I recently had a Custom Makeover at this Sephora. I'm such a newbie when it comes to makeup and I was really happy with the person I was paired with. She knew how to explain makeup application in a way that I could understand and didn't laugh at my inexperience. I felt comfortable asking her any question I could think of. I've visited this location multiple times, because I live nearby, and when it's crowded it definitely seems to stress the employees out. At those times, it's hard to get real help so I just avoid this and go when it's not crowded. Otherwise, the staff have always been super helpful! And the store is always clean. read more

2.5 stars. I'm a VIB Rouge at Sephora, which means I shop there a lot. So much, in fact, that a chunk of every paycheck goes to the beauty goddesses. Out of every Sephora location that I have visited, this is my least favorite. The space is so limiting that the customer experience is awful. They only carry limited product lines/limited products from the lines that they carry and rarely have 'extras' like holiday gift sets or 500 point reward boxes. When you walk into the store, there is no entry area; you literally walk straight into a display--that's how tiny this location is. Because there is nowhere to really browse, customers are constantly running into each other or blocking an entire walkway trying to view a display. I also find the staff here not as good as other locations--usually I can't find anyone to help me because everyone working is doing makeovers on someone or, on the rare occasion that I do find someone, it is this one particularly annoying older woman from the skincare section who literally follows me around and borderline harasses me about products that I am not interested in, even when I have politely declined help. I sound super whiny about the size of the store, but it is seriously an issue because I can't pause to view products without someone trying to squeeze by me. The biggest pain point is the fact that they don't even have a checkout counter. I already mentioned how people can't walk around the store because the aisles are full of people. This is compounded by the fact that the 'checkout register' is a pullout section of the wall and the queue line forms down an aisle where people are trying to shop. I usually wait at least 20 minutes to check out at the Shadyside Sephora. I only go in to this location if I know exactly what I am looking for, am positive they carry it and happen to be in the neighborhood. For everything else, I order online or visit the Ross Park Mall location. read more

There must have been a recent change in management in this location because I was actually helped and the service was actually friendly! This is actually a huge difference from my previous experience in this location when I felt I was inconveniencing their staff when I needed assistance. Anyway I came in to get a set of eye shadows which sadly they didn't carry any longer. The lady that helped me offered to order it online with free shipping, which was a service I didn't know they ordered. Anyway, I opted for instant gratification and went for a larger shadow set. Once my mission was accomplished I browsed around and more than one person asked me if I needed help. At check out the service was fast, and friendly. Anyway, I am very happy that their customer service has improved so much. I honestly had not come in for a while because I thought this location was a little snobby. I've held my tongue long enough but I think it's time to speak. Every single time I walk into this Sephora, no one ever greets me. I could be in there for 15 mins and have salespeople pass by me at least twice. Today I went in and walked all over the store and not once did anyone stop to ask me if I needed help (which I did!). Not sure what that's about. Additionally, their shade range is extremely limited. Why is your darkest shade paper bag tan? I don't need to emphasize the fact that it's 2022 and that several brands offer a wide range yet I can't even get access to it at my neighborhood Sephora. Unacceptable. This shop seems smaller than most mall Sephora's. The space between aisles and along the outside is limited.. If someone if looking at something, you have to patiently wait your turn to look as well. I was out of primer and decided to stop In and grab some. I also wanted to sample the Marc Jacobs re(marc)able foundation. The girl helping me said that the foundation is not offered in a lot of shades and did a color test on me. one was way too light, the other was slightly darker but blended out just fine. She made the sample and I went through the store looking for new primer. I normally get the Benefit one, but noticed Sephora had a travel sized area. I found a popular Smashbox one offered in travel size (still $17 for .5 OMGG) but it was better than buying the full version.. especially since after trying it I prefer the Benefit one. The reason for my 3 stars is how crappy the sample was. No shame in my game.. I sample stuff all the time from here because I have sensitive skin and try to avoid spending a lot of money of stuff that may cause a reaction. If somethiings works.. i'll buy the full size. The sample of foundation was so tiny it didn't even cover my face... not even kidding (I do have a big forehead doeee) Anyways the girls here were nicer than mall Sephoras. I've been a loyal Sephora shopper for years, and I still am. Usually I only buy online, but sometimes I actually like to go into a store when I'm looking for something untested. Unfortunately this is the only Sephora close by in central Pittsburgh. Unfortunately? Yes, you heard me right. Located on the narrow and notoriously pretentious Walnut Street this is Sephora is tiny and... pretentious. Maybe it comes with the location and the dress code, but every time I go to the Walnut St. Sephora I can't help but think that all their employees are judging me based on my clothes/age and are slyly watching to see if I'm going to steal something. They've been pretty inconsistent with their helpfulness, also. I'm not being super sensitive, but just as a warning if you're in your early 20's, not wearing a lot of make-up, and not dressed so nicely that day be prepared for some cold customer service from these ladies. Maybe they assume you don't have money? Maybe it's just me, but every time I go I forget to leave my motorcycle jacket at home. Bottom line: cold ladies, tiny store that carries the more popular stuff, but there is a larger and probably more friendly Sephora at Ross Park Mall. Professionals welcome. read more

I have a different experience every time I am here. Sephora in general is incredible, but let's see about this specific location. First of all, this store is TINY. On a weekend, you have to wait to get to certain areas. With the small size, comes less product. They don't carry as many brands even as the "normal" stores. I learned this when I hiked up to Walnut only to not see any Tarte in the entire store. The fragrance sections are also chopped to the most common brands that you could buy at Macy's. I would go to Sephora to purchase those items I can't get elsewhere, but this store doesn't see that. The staff is .. there. After typically visiting the Sephora at South Hills Village where every single person is super helpful and friendly, this location might as well not have any employees. I have not had an unpleasant experience with anyone in this store, but nothing that really helped me or made me want to come back either. The biggest drawback of this location has got to be the lack of a register area. You know how when you go to a store and then you want to buy something so you take it to the large centrally located register/check out area? Yeah, that doesn't exist here. You have to (sometimes) hunt down an employee after pushing through the maze of people and have them take you to the little computers on the sides of the store. I get that you're strapped for space, but this is just silly. Overall, I would rather head the opposite direction from home after work to hit the SHV location and then backtrack home, but when you live in the East Side and your foundation is no longer scrape-able (you know what I mean), trying to get the last bit, it does suffice. read more

This is one of my favorite Sephora locations. It's close proximity to other stores I enjoy on Walnut Street makes it a frequent stop for me. The selection is always fantastic, and the staff is generally very helpful. The last time I was in, the sales associate encouraged me to try the Urban Decay tinted moisturizer because I was looking for light coverage, but something moisturizer to help my skin during winter. I couldn't be more pleased with the product! It's my new go-to moisturizer, and it will be perfect for summer as well. Highly recommend. If you're looking for suggestions for new products, or are in a funk with your makeup routine, definitely stop by this Sephora. read more

Mini-make over review: For my birthday this year, I received a $50 gift card for Sephora. A bonus when you spend $50 on one purchase is that you are eligible for a free mini-make over, which can be scheduled online in advance. My make-up artist was MIchelle - she was brilliant! She managed to create the exact look I was after. The colors she chose as well as the various base products worked well with my skin. There is no pressure to buy everything they use and if you are not happy with something or want a slightly different shade they are more than happy to accommodate your request. She was all about making sure I was happy. I came out with slightly more than $50 worth of delightful beauty treats but no complaints here! Prior to visiting Sephora, if you know you'll be spending $50 then I highly recommend booking in for the mini-makover! Who doesn't love a little bit of pampering just because?! read more

I have been a loyal and hardcore Sephora shopper for years now, and I am always pleased with the service I've received in stores around the country. My review is based on a few things, but primarily the lack of selection at this *very* small store. This shopping area is such a great spot for a huge Sephora, but instead it's pretty small and lacks a lot of the new goodies I wanted. I was able to find a Nylon OCC Lip Tar though, and those are hard to find lately! The reason I went into this Sephora today was to make a large return. My mom gifted me a bunch of skincare for my birthday, and it wrecked my skin. I didn't have a receipt of course, and the products were partially used. The lady who processed my return was curt but didn't give me any trouble. It was a pretty painless process, and I am relieved I was able to unload the products that caused me so much trouble! For this reason, this store gets 5 stars for customer service. THANK YOU to the Shadyside staff for being so accommodating. Unfortunately, my main location for Sephora purchases will be online or at the Ross Park location due to poor selection. Even the Sephora in JCPenney in Monroeville has better choices. read more

I walked thru the store for about 15 minutes, no one even asked me if I needed help, and when I finally asked one girl she said she was already helping someone else and didn't offer to find me anyone else. I haven't even gone inside my house yet; I'm sitting in the driveway typing this because I'm still on cloud nine from the experience I just had. Make that cloud ten or eleven!! I had a makeover scheduled at 1pm with Angela. I left the store at 3:40pm. I can't even process the experience, it was so amazing. Sure, it was a Thursday afternoon and the store was quiet, but still - she went absolutely above and beyond. The Peter Thomas Roth rep, the Lancôme rep AND the Anastasia rep were all coincidentally there, and she brought each of them over to me. I basically got a facial + a top notch makeover. Laura, the color manager, helped as well. We kept making jokes about how this was *my* day, because the serendipity was just...so special, so fun. I love this store. I'm a VIP Rouge member, and fiercely loyal. I ask a ton of dumb questions, and walk out looking absolutely fierce because everyone is so knowledgeable, so helpful. Not sure what is it about this location, but it's small, the people that work here are super unfriendly and the service here is horrible! I came here shopping with my bf's little sisters, and I wanted a volumizing mascara that would give me a fake-lash look. When I asked the woman at the counter, she looked at me as if I were crazy and had no idea what I was talking about... Then she brought me a "mascara expert," who also looked at me with confusion. The awkwardness continued as she told me about 3 favorite mascaras and when I said "great, thanks" she stood there a little too close to me, then asked "well uh... u don't need me to put it on for you right?" in a somewhat condescending, rude, and supremely awkward way. I'm like... what is going on here. Sephora twilight zone. When I finally have the opportunity to try the mascaras on myself, another employee was standing a few feet away, watching me like a hawk. I saw her just staring at me out of the corner of my eye. I guess it's fine to watch your customers, but perhaps she could have been a little more discrete. Finally, I settled on a mascara sampler kit, but the one I was given had a broken seal. When I went to pay for my item, I asked the sales associate if I could have a new/unopened kit. She also looked at me as if she didn't know what I was talking about. When I explained that the seal was broken and showed her that, she very rudely scoffed, "well sometimes the seals bend over." I kindly asked her if she would please look to see if there was another one that didn't have a broken seal. It's your job to help the customer. She looked so angry having to go and check, I almost wanted to just leave, and I really would have if the kit weren't such a great deal (that is where the 2 stars comes from). When she finally came back and I paid for the item, she refused to look at me... I paid and got out of there as quickly as I could. Please don't spend your money at the Shadyside Sephora! read more

Sephora as a whole, I love. I don't care for this particular store. Every time I have come in here it's been total chaos. Not only is there a ton of people cramped into a little space, the sales associates are soo pushy. One time I counted 3 people approach me within 5 minutes of one another. I understand they are just doing their job, but I wish they took a moments notice to see that someone else had already approached me like literally a minute ago. I have also had no luck on the phone. Knowing this place is a total nightmare to go to, but needing to refill my hair product and not wanting to buy it online since it's so hard to find, I called to see if they had it in stock and the sales associate told me she didn't know and she was too busy to go look for me. This is probably the smallest Sephora I have ever visited. I'm pretty sure I know people with closets that are bigger. In new york city apartments. However, sometimes a little place gives a lot for such a little place, and this is one of those stores. I had run out of my living proof hair primer while we were in pittsburgh and it was sort of an emergency. My fiance googled sephora, and this came up. I was seriously shocked at how small the store was. Postage stamp doesn't even begin to describe it. I'm pretty sure I could sneeze from one end to the other. However, they manage to pack a LOT of product in that tiny little space. They had my hair primer. Now, to pay. Where is the register?!? I must have walked around the store four times, which probably wouldn't even register as steps on your fitbit, and could not seem to find the register. That was frustrating. What makes it even more remarkable is I walked in about 30 minutes before closing time on a Saturday,. She didn't rush she took her time made me look amazing and gave me more than I asked for! I've been shopping at sephora for years and this by far is the smallest store I have ever been to. Not only is it small, the store didn't have a lot of the products I was searching for. Lastly, my experience was horrible. Customer service is really horrible especially for being located in an upscale area. I inquired about a certain product and she pointed it out to me and said "oh, we'll I guess we don't have anymore colors" and threw the product back into the little cubby. Didn't bother to ask or show me other products that might be similar to what I was looking for. She simply went back to her coworkers to talk about God knows what. It was so annoying.. If you don't like your job why work there? I do have to say the guy who works there was very helpful when my BF was shopping for my birthday present. NAKED palette and the Andy W. I keep coming back due to proximity, but I should remember to come in, get what I'm looking for, and not ask for help. I always get snarky comments to questions, or they argue with me when I say I dislike a product's smell or texture. I tried to return a new highlighter today because I had tried it and didn't like how unnatural it looked on my skin (it had been their recommendation but the color was off for my skin tone), and the lady insisted that it must be because I didn't know how to put make up on. With an attitude told the cashier to give me my money back. This is just one of several examples. Their manager should do something about it. I live in the city, so this Sephora is my frequent go-to location. I always have a pleasant experience , but most recently I was helped by a gentleman, i believe his name was Joe! I was going to write a review via my receipt, but go figure, i threw it away...hence the reason I'm writing on here. I wanted to make sure he gets the recognition he deserves, Bc he was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about products. I wanted a specific color lipstick, and he was able to point me in the correct direction for the color i wanted & all animal cruelty free products as well. I think this location hired new sales advisors, Bc there were a lot of new faces! I believe he was new, and i really like him and appreciate his service! read more
