Panda Supermarket is a grocery store that sells Asian foods, beverages, kitchenware, and more. I shopped here once recently. I am not Asian, so perhaps I am not the most qualified reviewer, but I did recognize some foods from my past vacations in Japan and Korea. I also saw Chinese foods. The freezers, refrigerators, and shelves looked to be well stocked, organized, and clean, and the merchandise seemed to have reasonable prices. I saw a variety of foods--for example, soups, tofus, tamarind, rices, okonomiyaki, potstickers, curries, soy sauces, steamed buns, and taiyaki. I also saw beverages such as milks, sodas, juices, and teas. Kitchenware included pots, kettles, scissors, etcetera. Perhaps Panda Supermarket could offer more fruits, vegetables, and meats. Overall, however, I think that this store is very useful for finding merchandise that many other grocery stores do not offer. read more

I really look forward to visit Panda Supermarket because I was giving a tour to a group of coworkers to shop here on Sunday. I walked to the store at night not knowing where they moved to think, oh oh, they closed. I swear I saw recent reviews but how could it be closed. After some deeper research, I learned it moved to a bigger space towards Murray Avenue. Not sure how long it has been moved. They should had painted the sign at previous location if not removing it. Small but well stocked Asian supermarket with lots of familiar favorites. They even had Tong Yuen for winter solstice. They also carry many obscure flavors of Kit Kat and Lays. PSA: Spicy Crab Lays smell and taste like rotten fish guts. $5 minimum to use credit card. read more

Car parking can be tricky but it's worth a visit for reasonably priced fresh produce for Asian dishes when in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood. I also source my miso paste from here. Loads of other interesting and unique food and home goods only locally found here. There's a credit card use order minimum which is understandable when supporting a small local business. Their business hours allow for a quick stop after your 9-5 weekday job. read more

I didn't feel like I was welcome there. Workers/stockers were indifferent to customers (they don't even yield to customers). The cashier, a small lady with dark hair, couldn't care less about my presence. She paid no attention me, didn't thank me for coming to the store. No smiles. She just took my money. An Asian woman with short hair at the checkout with a particularly bad attitude. She sat at the counter and didn't talk to anyone. When I checked out, she didn't answer. I asked for a bag, but she couldn't hear me. Then she said I couldn't sell the bag because I didn't ask in time and I didn't have the cash. Is she a guest or am I a guest? I only discovered this gem this past weekend and finally found an Asian grocery store closer than Lotus Foods to me! Pros: -located in Squirrel Hill, by all the best restaurants -great selection for a small store -serious about COVID protections -produce and fruit are really fresh Cons: -higher prices than Lotus Foods -many items have no marked price and many items have incorrectly marked prices -super cramped and hard to shop around with a cart through the aisles read more

Coming here is so much fun for me. I like being able to shop for items that can't normally be found in your typical grocery store. Here I'm able to get lots of my favorite Asian imports. I'm also able to buy things I've never seen/heard of before. I like this because it gives me the opportunity to try out new things. Panda Supermarket is a great Asian grocery store if you need Asian ingredients. They don't have as much variety as Lotus foods in the Strip District, but they still have whatever staples you need for any kind of Asian dish you're trying to make. In comparison to Lotus foods Panda Supermarket has a much better instant noodle selection in my opinion. They also always have something different. If you check their Facebook page you can see what new items they've gotten in. The grocery store is also very organized which is nice if you're not sure where to look for an item. I should also note that the staff are all wearing masks still which made me feel safe shopping there! Overall would definitely recommend for all your Asian grocery needs! read more

This place is amazing!! I remember dreading going to the Asian market when I was younger. There was always a strange chemical and fishy smell that wafted the air. It was never fun going with my mom. Panda Supermarket is one of the rare supermarkets that does not have the strange smell. It is very organized and clean!! I don't buy Asian groceries often but I do frequent this place to buy Japanese snacks. This store has a variety of wonderful treats that I once thought I could only find on west coast asian market shelves. 90% of the time I come here for the Japanese Kit Kat's. The variety and amount the market has is plentiful!! The last time I visited, I picked up chestnut, peach mint, orange chocolate, apple pie and sweet potato!! Each bag contains 12 pieces and is just under $7. It's always a treat coming here. It's super fun coming in and looking around at all the store has to offer. read more

This is an exceptional Asian supermarket with a large selection of just about anything you might be looking for, and the staff is also very nice and helpful. I make special trips to Squirrel Hill just for this store. While you can purchase any grocery essentials and staple foods for preparing meals, they also have a decent selection of beauty products, Asian snacks, baked goods, candy, etc. I make it a point to stock up on my favorites every couple of weeks. They also rotate out different snacks so I usually end up finding something new every time I'm there. Definitely stop in and shop around if you're in the area! read more

Lovely supermarket for people living in Squirrel Hill! It's a little pricey here for a lot of the goods, but since it's an asian specialty store in area with very little asian supermarkets it's understandable. As a student you also get 10% off your groceries if you show a valid student ID, so hop on that! Grocery shopping here has helped me get all the foods I miss from back home and if you live here this is a great gem. read more

I'm so glad this place finally opened! They have a whole bunch of different brands of Asian snacks and candies. There's also a bunch of different Asian drinks and frozen foods, as well as some pastries in the back. All of these were pretty reasonably priced. The only thing I felt was overpriced was the fresh fruits and vegetables, there was no way I was going to pay ~$4 for a dragon fruit. I was excited to find this store! I usually go to Lotus down the strip district, but it's so far away from where I live. I loved the selection of food they have and all of the different drinks they have to offer. My only problem was that, I was followed around the store the entire times I shopped, which made me very uncomfortable. I was hoping that I would get to shop here frequently, but after being followed like that (I'm sure it's because of my skin color) I don't think I'll be going back. Came here for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. What's Hot - Selection/variety. Not bad! There are a variety of drinks, sweet treats, mochi, baked goods (swirl cakes, egg yolk buns, read bean cakes, etc...), savory snacks (shrimp chips, wasabi peas, dried mango, etc...), frozen food (dumplings, steamed buns, mochi ice cream), sauces, toiletries, etc... It's not bad. Keep in mind, this isn't a large store, so they won't have everything. For example, they didn't have chili bamboo shoots. - Prices/Yelp discount. I checked in on Yelp and got a 5% discount coupon! My total was around $70, so my discount was around $4. Not bad! - Location. It's in the heart of Squirrel Hill, which is a convenient location and within walking distance of other restaurants and shops. - Service. I asked one of their staff to help me find something, which he was able to do. Unfortunately, there were only 2 brands of what I was looking for, but he knew where it was. He also knew they didn't have the chili bamboo shoots I was looking for. When I showed the cashier my Yelp coupon, she gave me the discount and then pointed out my savings on the receipt. Their staff definitely try and are helpful. What's Not - More produce. They don't have much produce, which is also seasonal. For example, I saw pumpkin, lotus root, Asian pears, and several other items. I'm not surprised there's not much produce, especially given the size of the store. It's not the size of an Aldi, Giant Eagle, etc... It's a small market, even though this place is Panda Supermarket. - Prices. My total was a little over $70. I didn't buy any produce. I bought frozen dumplings, pickled veggies, roasted chestnuts, fermented tofu, etc... Keep in mind, these products are not easy to find in your usual American grocery stores. My point? It's easy to add up. - Parking. It's in town in Squirrel Hill, so parking sucks. There's street parking and behind some of the shops in their little lots. But be aware, parking isn't easy, especially during busy days, like the weekends. Final Answer Would come back, but not just for the market alone. Given the hassle of the location, I'd make it a point to go somewhere else in the neighborhood, too. read more

Conveniently located in Shadyside, they have a variety of authentic asian groceries from Japan, Vietnam, China etc Mostly dried good, not wet ones. They have some delicious pastries, japanese cakes, and frozen foods etc. I really like their variety of frozen dumplings, noodles, hot pot broth, soups, Japanese snacks. We are definitely fans. The Supermarket manages to keep a stunning selection of product for such a small space and part of that is due to very careful organization of the shelves. They never seem to be understaffed and they'll help you find whatever you're looking for. They were closed to foot traffic for weeks during quarantine and went out of their way to accommodate orders and find what people wanted in the store. I haven't been anywhere that follows more careful Covid precautions. You won't find bargain prices and the checkout line is rarely efficient if either of those are a concern, but the store is accessible, clean, and has tons of fun novelties in addition to all the expected basics. (Our Easter baskets and Christmas stockings are inevitably dominated with candy and treats from Panda.) read more

This is a great market! They have a whole snack wall filled with things I've never even heard of before like snack tofu packs. There's a section of beauty products and teas and spices. A wall of dressings and condiments. Freezers of meats and desserts. There's also a small produce section. My absolute favorite thing in this store are the rice cakes. I came in here looking for ingredients to make tteokbokki and I planned on making my own dressing from scratch. They had every single ingredient I wanted! They are also very friendly. Awesome shop. I'm from Philly area where one of my favorite places is Assi Plaza (an Asian supermarket with a Korean restaurant & bakery area) but I hadn't found a place at all similar to that here until now. They are much smaller than Assi, but they carry all of the items that I would go there for. They have a great selection of frozen and dry Asian foods and their fruit looks amazing. I was additionally excited to see a store selling the skincare brands SNP and Hada Labo as those are two of my favorite brands, but until now I have had to purchase online from Japan which takes anywhere from 1-3 months at times. Will definitely be shopping here often. read more

The only reason I did not leave a 4 star is that they stock too much of the candies and sweets from the Asian markets. This place doesn't meet the bare minimum standards of what I expect in an Asian market: there's no Thai basil or any fresh herbs at all, no bean sprouts, no fresh chilis. Most of what they have could be purchased at a regular grocery store. I wouldn't bother leaving a review except that someone else said they have a "fantastic selection" and that's just not true at all, which is unfortunate because they're in my neighborhood and it would be nice not to have to go all the way to the Strip district for a few really, really basic things. read more
