This is a big location with helpful staff. We came by to check out new fragrances & make up during our girlie day out. It was fun to try out new products & get some make up & skin care tips. This location is located in the Hollywood & Highland Center. The staff that helped us were very knowledgeable in the different products and helped to choose what was best. You gotta love a place that dolls your lady up. This Sephora has a beautiful staff that knows the products they have on there shelves very well. We stopped by to pick up the normal "Make Up Forever HD" stuff my lady digs on. The pretty boo helping us out was extremely great in helping my lady fine a deep cleansing scrub by Korres for $30 and offered my lady some samples of moisturizers so she can decide which one had the best results. Checking out at the register my lady was told she has enough points to get a "Pacifica Set" that included the best smelling Coconut Nectar Body Butter Cream ever. Good heads up from the staff, the gift set was a definite steal. The gorgeous guy ringing us up also threw in some John Varvatos, and Polo Black cologne samples for me. I'm so disappointed because I LOVE Sephora. I may have to go back to shopping online at sephora.com or wait until I can get out to South Coast Plaza in Orange County. I wonder if this Sephora doesn't have the best customer service because it's located in Hollywood and Highland which probably doesn't get too many repeat customers. Whatever the case I was not happy with the cashier. I purchased a makeup set and told him it was a birthday gift. He just put it in a bag with no tissue, etc., I asked if there were any boxes and he said they ran out. He was sooooo NOT helpful it really pissed me off. I think it pissed me off more because I have asked my friends to buy me Sephora gift cards over Ulta. I am never coming back to this branch of Sephora again. From the moment I entered the store, I felt like I was bothering the salespeople when I asked for assistance. Now keep in mind, I certainly looked tired but I didn't look like a browse-only hobo. In fact, I was wearing a pretty sweater and carrying a designer handbag. Nevertheless, the following ensued. Me: "Hi, I'm looking for some specific products by Clinique, Shiseido, and Tarte. Could you show me where those brands are? Salesperson 1: (Reluctant pause...). Go over there (points vaguely to another part of the store). Someone should help you over there. Me: (see above) Salesperson 2 (disdainfully): We don't carry Shiseido anymore. Don't you know that? Me: Okay... Is this recent? S 2: At LEAST two months (umm Hello! Not all of us come to Sephora monthly) Me: Well, I'm also looking for a particular Clinique concealer. S 2: Sephora has decided to discontinue carriage of that product. Here, buy this instead. Me: I'm sorry but that's not really going to work for me. S 2: Maybe you should go try a department store counter. I then remember that I need to replace my broken eyelash curler and head to another part of the store. I find the curler but see they appear to be all out, but then I figure there might be more in the drawers they keep below the merch. I find a salesperson. Me: Hi, do you have any more of these eyelash curlers? S 3: I don't see any. Me: Yes, but sometimes there are more in the drawer. S 3: (checks the drawer, finds the curlers) Oh! Right! Here you go (removes the one box, leaving the rest in the drawer so the product continues to appear sold out). Me: Also, what's this 4 day lash thing. Is that safe? S 3: Huh? Oh, I haven't tried it. But I'm sure it's really good because... (she then reads the back of the box to me). Me: I was looking for more information... but it's ok. S 3: I'm going to go Google it. Bounces off. I ended up buying the curler, a lipstick, a primer, and an antibacterial spray for makeup brushes because I came in specifically looking for those products and would have bought them anywhere. Some staff are extremely rude. I asked about a men's fragrance, by describing the bottle. I said I saw it at a Sephora in MN. Two male staff straight up argued with me saying "Well, that's Minnesota, we don't have that. We never have." That's fine, but don't be rude. Maybe there should be some customer service training. I don't shop at Sephora, but my friends do. They worship this place and I thought I'd check it out since I was in Hollywood anyways. This location is HUGE. It's at least twice as large as the Glendale Galleria location. If you are in the area and have trouble finding street parking, fear not. There is a parking structure on Highland...$2 for FOUR hours with validation from shops/restaurants. The workers weren't very attentive and if I had even been interested in purchasing a product, I would have been frustrated. I guess I don't look like the typical customer or something. Anyway, the place was really organized and my friend had a ball trying on lip gloss. But sorry Sephora, you won't be taking my money any time soon! I seriously used to be a low maintenance girl. Maybe some mascara and eyeliner from the drug store - but that was it. Thanks to this store I can no longer say that and keep a straight face. Why is it that the more make-up a woman owns the more she wants (or thinks she needs)......its an addictive cycle. I remember back in high school when my Mom would beg me to wear make-up and I actually thought I looked better without it. Oh those days have come and gone and this woman wouldnt step outside her front door or the gym without mascara and eyeliner on. You can ask Jean W for confirmation on that one. I try to avoid this place at all costs. If I go in it is 100 percent guaranteed I will walk out having purchased no less than 80 bucks worth of new make-up/beauty products that I dont need. I went with my Mom of all people last weekend to buy HER and not me new make-up. Of course I discovered a new amazing looking utensil that places fake eyelashes on perfectly for you and had to buy it because (and I dont) I actually wear fake eyelashes all the time. One tip: ask for free samples. They wont give them to you if you dont ask for them, but if you ask you usually get good stuff. read more

A spacious Sephora. Let's note that one first. As someone that hates going to cosmetic stores, it's weird to say that I've been in quite a few Sephoras, and this is definitely one of the bigger ones. The empoloyees are also very nice, and they don't hound after you. You don't have to repeat your "No, thanks. I'm just looking/browsing/sniffing/testing/on a secret mission/need something to exfoliate the blood off my hands". You get your standard greeting, and maybe one or two other inquiries further in, but the rest of the time? I don't have to worry about being jarred from my reading of products and personal drama about how I hate being in places like these. I'm far more at ease than I would expect. It helps that I brought a friend, too. Running commentary is important for me in a place where I am not my strongest. Today's trek to Sephora was for a hand cream for my dear ole mum. I knew the skin care products would be all the way in the back to hide the shameful people with poor skin from view of passersby in front of the store, so that was my destination. (If you've read this far, you're barmy and should just skip to the bottom.) L'Occitane Shea Butter hand cream. That was the product of choice. I was definitely relieved when I found there was only ONE left, and snatched it up before some other dry-handed individual could snatch it from me. Of course, my friend had to try the tester. Woe, she put way too much on both of us, but my hands feel so nice right now. One of the things I do happen to love about Sephora is all the testers. Some of them seem ridiculous to have as testers (shampoos or things that need to be rinsed off), but it's nice that they're so thoughtful about it. Sephora... Better than a CVS make-up aisle. I've been to this Sephora location a couple of times, usually just to pick up something I need since I'm not a fan of the Hollywood/Highland chaos. Good: I went in this past weekend and spent a while in the store this time since I am trying to make an effort to go vegan with my makeup. This means reading a lot of labels. One associate was really helpful and showed me around to some brands she though might have vegan products. Most of them were "cruelty free" or "Clean at Sephora" which isn't quite the same as vegan but her effort to help me was really appreciated. Bad, bad, bad: I went back again yesterday to buy some more products that I had to think on. I went straight to the back of the store to get a skincare item. There were 3 women back there chatting and laughing about something. A few seconds later one of them said hello to me. My back was turned facing the product I was looking at and I didn't realize she was talking to me, since she waited to finish her conversation with her coworkers before acknowledging me. She asked if I needed help, in what felt like an annoyed tone, and I said no thank you and headed to the register. At the register I saw a mini Kat von D color that I wanted to try on (that wasn't in the main KVD section) so I took it to the nearest mirror station in the makeup section. The sales woman came all the way from the back of the store to ask if I needed a disposable wand to try the lip color, even though I was already clearly using one and there were plenty of associates up there. She said something like "oh wow you've already got one!" I felt like she came way over just to "check up" on me like I was suspicious. I get that this is a crazy location but if they had just provided good customer service from the get go this might not have felt so blatant. I'll come here when I really need to but otherwise there are better Sephora locations that can take my money. read more

The worst customer service ever! I looked for the store because of the outside ads for eyebrows. I go inside and no one asked me if I needed help. Once I took notice I tested the grounds and walked next to each representative in the store. I read the Yelp reviews before visiting this Sephora branch, so was prepared to face the "unattentive workers" and "staff uninterested in customers". However, it was close to work, so I decided to go anyway. What the reviews stated was true!!! Most of the people working there weren't helpful AT ALL. When I told one of the Asian ladies working there that I don't know much about makeup, she said "take a class". wow. Thanks.... for offering me tips. I browsed around the store utterly confused as to what brand to buy since there are a bazillion different brands for the same thing. I needed one of each of the following basics: (foundation, eye shadows, eye liner, lip gloss, primer, mascara, brushes) and I was ready to throw down a ton of money to get good quality stuff to last me for a while. Now you might be wondering why I gave this place a whopping 5 stars... and that is because I met SHANE here. He was SO helpful.... the ONLY one helpful, in fact. I told him my troubles, and that I don't know how to put on makeup right, and needed a good set of makeup items. He asked me questions as to what I wanted to achieve, and what look I was looking for. He was funny, attentive, and compassionate. I can go on and on...Shane is totally cool. He taught me how to do the "smokey-eye" and techniques for doing eyeshadow on Asian eyes. I learned SO much from him. He did a full-makeup on my face and I walked out looking SO much better than when I came in, and learned a great deal too. I spent about $250 that night, and then some on Sephora.com. I can actually do makeup properly now. I will definitely go back to this branch, especially if Shane's around. Def. ask for SHANE! This is my favorite Sephora for many reasons. It's huge! Ok, it's Hollywood, it's practically expected considering all of the tourists that pass by here. Secondly, I'm the type of person that believes that great customer service is when the customer ASKS for help (sometimes). I can't tell you how annoyed I get when I'm right in the middle of searching for an exact lipstick or eyeshadow color when I'm interrupted & snapped out of my concentration with a "can I show you this new fragrance we recently got shipped in from so-and-so company?" What's not to love about a gigantic store filled all of the best beauty finds?! This Sephora is my favorite store in all of Los Angeles! Well, favorite store for all of my products. When I say 'all of my products'...I mean I have an addiction to makeup, hair, fragrance and skin products. I know its bad when my mother, (who is a beautician says) I have too many products! I can easily navigate my way through this Sephora. (Years of experience and shopping in one place will do that to ya!) I also do my research on a product I'm thinking of buying so I'm never disappointed. The staff is helpful but they are not too pushy which is great because I know enough about what I'm buying but on the rare occasion I don't they are always there to help. They have many stations stocked with different applicators, tissues, makeup remover etc.. for all your testing products needs. I've never once felt uncomfortable testing something out here. The store is laid out great. The makeup is in the middle of the store with each line having its own section. Makeup brushes are near the registers. The fragrances are along the middle wall outside of the makeup. The skin care and hair products are in the back of the store with most of hair stuff being furthest back. You can test almost everything here. Since this is obviously a review about Sephora and not products I won't get into it but I will say they have sale racks usually near the registers or underneath some of the testing stations. Their debut products are usually in the very front of the store right when you walk in and certain promotional products are in nice displays throughout the store. The points system at Sephora is a great bonus. It's point for point with a 100 point gift and a 500 point gift. (I've racked up around 30 of the 500 point gifts) If you're in need of beauty products I would most definitely recommend this Sephora location. read more

Showed up at 3pm for an appointment to have my make up done took 25 min for anyone to come over and start on my make up, they couldn't figure out who was doing me, totally not organized. When someone finally came over they asked me the same questions they did on the phone, obviously they didn't input any of my info before I arrived. At the end of this because they started so late. Worst Sephora ever. I wrote a scathing review about this location a few years ago, but Sephora was nice enough to pony up enough money to have Yelp take it down. As I mentioned before, describing their customer service as "icy" is a big fucking understatement. Many of the employees are RUDE and act as though they're doing YOU a favor. Not warm, not friendly. Imagine my reaction when one employee was actually nice to me. I was shocked -- SHOCKED -- to the extent that I stood there with my mouth open for about thirty seconds and commented on how she's probably the nicest girl there. She smiled and said thank you. I love the staff at this particular Sephora, unlike my local Sephora in Pasadena. They're helpful without being pushy and truly knowledgable about the humongous number of products they stock. I went there with the intention of getting some sort of moisturizer (with a high SPF as I am as pale as the living dead) for less than $50. I thought that was going to be enough to narrow down my choices. I was wrong. They have ....oh.....9,349,348 brands of moisturizer that fall into that category. So, I had to ask for help. I went to the store because I was low on foundation. Once I entered, I wasn't greeted by any employee. So I went around the shop to see where the brands were located since I don't go to this location often. Then as everyone commented here, there was a Male employee watching my every move. So I already knew he was watching me like if I was going to steal, so I played around w/ him. I went from one aisle to 3 aisle quick then ducking down as if I was gone. He was surely staring at me, but never ask if I needed help. Which I did, but another employee came to take his position because he was going to lunch. I'm not a huge fan of Sephora because they have so much stuff! I try to quickly run in, buy what I need, and run out as fast as possible, but that NEVER happens! The Americana location sucks you in and you are there for hours sniffing every perfume, trying on every gloss, talking to every sales associate... But I love the Hollywood location because I literally spend 10 minutes getting in, waiting in line, and getting out. I'm not sure if it's because the store itself is big and organized, or if I just want to get away from the weirdies filtering in from Hollywood Boulevard ASAP, but I've never had a problem here. Staff follows you around like you're a thief, which is kind of a bummer. It's super busy inside and even though you're being stalked, it's rather hard to get someone's attention in order to be helped. This girl, I wont mention names, but she was super condescending and unhelpful. I wanted help with the NARS foundation, I'm switching it up from Tarte and getting two samples from her was like pulling teeth. She also told me instead of getting samples I should just pick this certain shade... it was like 5 shades darker than me and honestly, I am not going to take advice from her... she was wearing the wrong foundation shade and it wasn't even blended at her neck. No Thank you. Another employee with tons of piercings and was kind of goth-y saved the day and was very helpful and nice. She also didn't treat me like a criminal, which I appreciate. Alyssa is awesome! She is sweet, patient and helpful. Sadly, her co-workers were so unpleasant during my tutorial with her, I ran out of there as fast as I could. I'm going to the Beverly location to pick out what I wanted to buy since I ran out of time. Avoid the bitchy old dude and the catty girl named Crystal. They go out of their way to make you feel uncomfortable and awkward. Both stopped by my tutorial to "check in." Love Sephora for browsing. I'm one of those rare girls who can walk into Sephora and not worry about spending too much money. I'm very low maintenance regarding make up. I still have my Chanel eye shadow quattro that I got in 1997 and I haven't hit the pan yet. I still use it, and I don't get any allergic reaction from it despite all the beauty experts warning that no one should use makeup that has been around longer than 2 years. My Marc Jacobs perfume is still one-third full even though I already have it for 2 years. I try to use perfume more frequently because the smell will change with age. The only makeup item I finish fast is lipstick. On average, I finish a tube and a half in a year. I don't see the purpose of having makeup you can't use up, so whenever I go to Sephora, it's probably just to browse for some lipstick. I have mixed feeling about Sephora-love all their products and I am a frequent shopper and a club member. But, some employees do not take the time to say hello nor acknowledge me depending on what I am wearing-clothes or makeup. Needless to say, I do most of my shopping online. Sephora quit being so judgmental, as your sales associates look like prostitutes with every shade of make up on, all at once. I am a professional who choses not to fit into the LA standard of being fashionable and ready to party at every moments notice. I am comfortable in jeans and a T-shirt or a business suit. So please, learn the lesson quickly or you will lose me as a store shopper. The only nice people in this place, are the associates who clean up the makeup stations and aisles. I recently moved to Hollywood, and I must say this location has very chipper employees who are eager to help, and have definitely stood out amongst other Sephora locations that I have previously shopped at. Brittany (on the sales floor) was incredibly helpful in helping me find the right foundation. I had purchased one brand a few weeks ago, but was unsatisfied with it and she made sure to give me recommendations based on my feedback. She also recommended I take home samples to try between 2 brands, which I would not have thought of otherwise. Esteban at the register was very friendly and welcoming and made the checkout process incredibly quick and easy (even when I didn't have a receipt for a return!) Overall great experience. read more

I don't know why I go to other Sephoras in LA. The one at the Beverly Center might as well be a Rite Aid, and the one in Pasadena has a rudeness epidemic amongst its workers. (Seriously, someone get the antidote.) In contrast, THIS Sephora at Hollywood & Highland always has *nice* helpful people who are eager to make your shopping experience pleasant and make you more knowledgeable about make up and application. And guess what: I'm more inclined to spend money, more money, if I feel like I'm being helped and comfortable in a store. A Sephora worker named Kei (spell check please?) in particular did a wonder tutorial on my eyebrows. This was probably the best tutorial I've ever had at any Sephora or make-up counter in my 20 year career of make up application. Total kudos to her!! (Something I asked for at the Pasadena store to which some female Sephora employee looked at me and said "you don't need any" and after my look of disbelief and her blank look, nothing more. Customer service needs to be revisited in that store, clearly.) Oh and also, this Hollywood & Highland carry more varied items than other Sephoras. That's a plus. read more

This review is long overdue. Staff: It's always hit and miss with them. Sometimes I go and they're super nice and attentive, the other times they're nowhere to be found and when you go search for help they have an attitude. It would be nice to have a warm welcoming considering we have to fight the tourist crowd just to buy makeup. Makeup application/beauty bar: Today was the first time I sat at the beauty bar. I am a creature of habit so I stick with the same thing for years but I had to change it up because something wasn't right. Denise dealt with my funky little attitude that I seem to always have (or so my bf tells me so) and found me a solution quickly. She was great and know her sh*t. I came here with a friend on a recent trip to the L.A. area. No one greeted me as I walked in and no one asked me if I needed help with anything until I was almost ready to check out. I LOVE Sephora and I HATE Sephora. I love it because it's like Disneyland for anyone who, like me - is a product junkie. And because you are allowed to play - and by "play", I mean try on a never-ending amount of fragrances, lotions, potions and make-up without being trailed by a pushy sales person. I only hate this emporium of high-end beauty items, because I want to buy everything in sight - of course, I realize that this is not even a remote possibility. As a matter of fact, this is not the place for girls (or guys) on a budget - as the cost of beauty - especially at Sephora - is rather high. The three star rating is due in part, to a recent visit during which I purchased a new tube of $30 Lip Fusion gloss. The sales woman was helpful and very sweet - but for some reason, I was not given any of the coveted samples that Sephora is known for freely doling out! And she confirmed that I was a V.I.B member - so I really felt cheated. And I noticed that the women in line before me, received quite a few freebies! Next time, I'll make my purchases on-line - at least that way, I'm guaranteed three samples! read more

The location's HR guy reached out to me and it's clear that they've read the yelp reviews regarding the potential racial profiling issues and that they really care about making things better. Still not the best Sephora location because despite its large size, it doesn't seem to carry as many product lines as other locations. I think this is my favorite Sephora store. Sure, it's centrally located in ground zero of tourists galore where it's totally hectic & chaotic, but the store is spacious, fully stocked, and carries most of the brands. The sales floor is very helpful and generous with their samples =) Come early to avoid the crowds. Park in the structure and make sure to get validation. It'll cost about $2 but that's about the same if you were going to beverly center or the grove. read more

Okay sooo I used to hate going into Sephora because I was followed around, racially profiled and judged, but boy oh boy have they changed! I had the pleasure of being helped by Brian and Dave today and they were both so amazing!!!! I loved birth of their energy and knowledge. I trusted Dave fully and he wasn't trying to get me to buy any and everything just to make a goal. BRIAN was fantastic he is honestly the reason why I spent way more today than I would have! If you don't want to be in a crowded Sephora (for once), go here. If you want a lot of selections, and I mean a lot of selections for all sorts of beauty supplies (finally), go here. If you want courteous help and people actually interested in what you need (please!), don't go here. I went here simply to browse to kill some time before Justin B's concert, and I'm glad I wasn't bombarded by people... but at the same time I expected at least once for someone to look at me with interest, to make a sale, rather than stare at their nails with the utmost fascination of "good god, what is that speck doing there?!" Some of their sample products were tampered with or stolen.. and they weren't doing a great job of restocking those. They did a great job however on putting a patsy right by the door to greet you and bid you farewell (as well as look at you suspiciously). But I'd come back to shop here because of the convenience of it being close to the Red Line Hollywood and Highland stop. Maybe next time, they'll look me in the eye and go, "May we help you?" read more

I've been a regular costumer at this Sephora location for about 2-3 years. That being said, I'm going to illustrate what makes this location, unique, and different from the others. First things first, it's located in the heart of Hollywood, in one of the most popular plazas, and as a result, they always have an influx of foreigners in and around the store. Hollywood is an international destination, and that comes with a long list of pros and cons. For example, I am certain they have had a problem with shoplifters in the past, considering they have multiple people patrolling the aisles, and etc for suspicious behavior. A lot of women have complained in the reviews about costumer service here, honestly, it's hit or miss. There's a handful of individuals, male and female, such as Ahki Ra. and Stella, who are amazing talented make-up artists and go above and beyond their job title. Then, like any other store, you have the handful of associates, who are really not "enthusiastic" about helping you, or even their job for that matter. If you want a better shopping experience, go to a friendly experienced make-up artist, find one who you "click with" and only go to them. That's my best advice for you, as a costumer who has been coming here for years. Please consider giving these associates some credit, they deal with broken English, unintelligible accents, bad attitudes, and rude people all day. A lot of them are trying really hard to do their job well, but when you're working with DEMANDING foreigners regularly, it can be very exhausting. I've seen countless examples of this happening, at this specific location. Another thing that should be noted, this is the largest Sephora store that I have found in LA County. It is well stocked 95.99% of the time, and they have the biggest variety in products, since they also have the most space. It is always well lit, clean, and professional. That being said, they can't always control the messy used lipstick samples, broken blushes and eyeshadows, that some inconsiderate costumes leave behind, in their messy unconscientious trail of repulsive behavior. This Sephora location is also REALLY close to the Hollywood Highland Red Line Train Station. It is literally a 2-3 minute walk from the moment you step off the escalator or elevator, onto Hollywood and Highland. I love the selection of beauty supplies at this store! I live a few blocks over and am always buying stuff here.. But literally every time I come here I am STALKED by their security.. Is it because of my tattoos and piercings?! I'm not sure.. They literally approach me or say something to me EVERY time.. It's just annoying when I spend over $100 every time I come in. So security.. If you see this.. Please back off. I promise I'm not stealing. I'm simply just looking at the stores products! read more
