I took some time before writing this because I didn't want to respond purely out of emotion. As someone who values supporting Black professionals and uplifting other Black men in this industry, leaving a negative review was not something I wanted to rush into. However, my experience at the salon inside Ulta left me feeling embarrassed and disrespected, and I believe it's important to share honest feedback. I came in asking for simple straight-back braids. I was technically a walk-in, but I called ahead first to make sure it would be okay before coming. On the phone, the stylist sounded welcoming and said he could squeeze me in between clients. I didn't mind waiting at all--I was just excited to get my hair braided. Unfortunately, the tone completely changed once I arrived. Instead of a professional consultation, the stylist immediately began criticizing my hair, saying it was "dry" and complaining that it was short. For context, I had just blown my hair out and intentionally did not add product because that's commonly recommended when preparing hair for braids. Additionally, my hair has been braided successfully about 4-5 times before, so I know that my length is more than sufficient for straight-back braids. Rather than offering helpful guidance, the comments felt dismissive and unnecessarily negative. The overall tone made me feel uncomfortable almost immediately. After starting the service, the stylist completed one braid. When he tied it off, he said "no hang time" out loud. This comment was made in front of other clients in the salon, and it felt embarrassing and unprofessional. Being singled out like that in a public salon environment made the situation even more uncomfortable. The braid itself also appeared rushed and below the standard I expected. Earlier in the appointment I had asked if stitch braids were an option, and I was told they couldn't be done because the salon didn't have "the device" to do them. That explanation didn't make sense, since stitch braids are typically done with technique and a rat-tail comb rather than a special device. After the first braid was finished, the stylist asked if I wanted to continue. Based on the comments and the overall energy of the interaction, I decided not to move forward with the service. When the braid was taken down it felt rushed and aggressive, which only added to the discomfort. I was also asked if I wanted my hair washed afterward, but I declined because at that point I just wanted to leave. This review isn't meant to tear anyone down. However, professionalism, respect, and client care are essential in the service industry--especially in a salon environment where people should feel comfortable and confident. I walked in excited for a simple service and left feeling embarrassed and disappointed. I would like to file a complaint regarding my recent experience with Jessica at the register. During my visit, her attitude came across as extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Her communication felt very backhanded and unapproachable, which made the interaction unnecessarily uncomfortable. What concerned me most was the way my purchased items were handled -- they were thrown onto the counter in a careless and disrespectful manner. She has got to be one of the best customer service representatives for this brand that I've ever met. My experience at this Ulta was extremely frustrating due to the cashier lead, Niki. She was mumbling throughout the entire interaction to the point where I could barely understand anything she was saying, which caused constant miscommunication. Instead of clarifying, her attitude came across as irritated and hostile. On top of that, she appeared visibly exhausted or very ill she was overly pale and disengaged, which made the whole experience uncomfortable. If she is unable to communicate clearly or treat customers respectfully due to being ill, she should not be in a lead cashier position at the time or. Management seriously needs to address this, whether that means additional training or giving her time off to get herself together . I just have to say I had an AMAZING experience Tuesday 1/20/26 with David. He was so helpful and insightful with everything in the store. I let him know that I needed some quick makeup to keep in my car when I'm out and about and need to do makeup or refresh it. He was so helpful and knowledgeable about all of the products. He even helped me find brushes that would work best with the application of the makeup! I didn't get a survey emailed for some reason but I wanted to make sure that he deserved all the accolades and praise for his help. I'm a chocolate girl so sometimes finding the right shade is scary but he went above and beyond and knew exactly what shades would work. Don't bring kids, carry items in hands or be of color at night walking the store. Know exactly what you want or else you will get associates that say they don't have it. Lilit Hovhannisyan has been coloring my hair for a couple of years now and she is just amazing! I used to go somewhere else to get haircuts by a Deva Curl specialist because of my curly hair, but this last time I asked Lilit to cut my hair too and I love it. She fixed my hair less than a week ago and I've been getting unprompted compliments from strangers. She is also a super sweet person. I am disabled and use a mobility aid, Lilit is very accommodating with my disability, making sure I'm always comfortable and making things very easy for me. It's really bad parking at this location then I have to go up the escalator but that's not the worst part of this location. It's too crowded and I'm at the line and it takes forever. The cashiers are just super slow and it makes me never want to come back to this specific location. It's very not accessible because of the location. Never again will I come here. I had to do errands in this area but it's just not worth the hassle. The 2 customers ahead of me seems to be having drama and then there were other people who got helped and taken elsewhere but I have a return so I am stuck waiting here.....it's been like over 15 minutes. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE TOO. No apologies just incompetent cashier workers. They made sure to help others and apologize but did not care about the hold up drama and address it. Just went recently for highlights with Abby! I was very nervous as I've been working on my hair health this past year, and I have very curly hair so I get scared when new people are doing it. I first visited Lilit well over a decade ago and I have been a loyal customer ever since - I feel like I struck gold when I found Lilit. I'm a big believer that a great hair doesn't just look great the day of the cut but looks great the days after. You know it's a good cut when it grows out beautifully. This is my go to Ulta because the staff is usually very friendly and helpful, but today I left feeling very... Weird, I guess. I just needed to pick up a few things to stock up on and went to go check out and usually the cashier asks for a telephone number and then asks about the credit card sign up. I declined getting the credit card but usually when they ask for my phone number I'd like to see if I have any points or any dollars off for promotions or anything. This cashier did not ask for my number, but before I checked out, I asked if she could see if my number had any $ off. I didn't, which was totally fine. Just thought I'd ask -- but when I did ask to check, the cashier (Emely) and another employee (blonde girl) looked at each other smirked and almost laughed at me. I asked "is there a problem?" And the cashier was like uh no. It was very odd and my question didn't seem too ridiculous-- but I left feeling weird and embarrassed which I did not appreciate at all. I'm not sure why they needed to smirk & be smug about about a simple question thats usually always asked, but it was noticed. Their costumer service is excellent and they always treat you kindly, even if you are makeup illiterate like me lol. I went there right after a hair appointment a couple of months ago and since this was my first time ever dying my hair, ANGELA was so amazing explaining how dyed hair is supposed to be taken care of and what products I needed. One of the great parts of their customer service is that if someone doesn't have the answer, they will find someone on the team that does, which to me is fabulous. They have great teamwork. They also have the biggest selection of product for an Ulta store and they are easy to find. The store is really easy to navigate.
