    Jimmy's RV Storage

    Jimmy's RV Storage

Since this is the first review for this place, I'll make it a little longer. So I and my family…read morehave been shopping for a great place to park our summer toys, and one name that kept popping up was Jimmy's RV Storage. So fun fact, there is no Jimmy working there, but it's actually a legacy name for the late father who once owned this RV Parking. We had some things that needed to be checked in order to find the right RV storage place. 1. It had to be close to Edmonton - Why drive an hour in the opposite direction from where you are going to go 2. It had to have easy access - Driving back roads in the dark on farmland isn't fun, only to find out the place is closed 3. It has to have solid security - I paid good money for my stuff, and I'd like to keep it in good condition 4. Price has to be reasonable - No point paying big bucks for something you only use for a limited time. 5. Staff on site for help and security. 6. Lots that are actually nice and graded After shopping around, Jimmy's RV was the best choice for us. It's just off of yellow head highway, so when we are coming back to town, it's just one quick turn-off. They have staff during working hours, which monitor security, answer questions, and can provide help and supplies. After hours, there is staff close by and you have Card Access and 2 Gates to pass through. The Security here is over the top, with over a dozen high-resolution cameras covering the storage area. Last time I stopped by it looked like they were putting in high-powered lighting as well, not sure when that will be completed (I don't think any other lot would have this). The lot itself is well managed, and graded, so going in and out no matter the season is great. Part of the reason I'm sharing all of this, is I am constantly blown away by the team that works here. Recently when I went to get my RV out, the engine wouldn't turn, and I had a flat. The team on site helped in every way they could including helping me boost my engine, inflating my tire, and providing help to the closest location to where I can get both checked out. I think this type of kindness and service deserves attention. :)

I rented a storage unit for the first time a couple of months ago. First I went to Sentinel, who…read morewere very expensive. They helpfully directed me to South Edmonton Storage, who had storage lockers in my price range, but not in the size I needed. They also helpfully directed my elsewhere, to U-Store-It. This is a company that has a few locations, but this one opened fairly recently. Price are reasonable and the warehouse is huge, so they had plenty of units. The best part is, an indoor heated unit doesn't cost anything more than an outdoor locker. That's awesome. Not because my stuff needs to be heated, but because I hate being outside in the cold. Especially when it's doing something lame like loading winter tires into the backseat of my car. The staff have always been very pleasant to deal with, from setting up the locker, to helping me buy a lock (and testing it for me to make sure it worked!) to helping me get a new lock on my locker when I lost the keys to my old one. Or setting up my automatic credit card payments when I forgot to pay and they had to lock me out of my unit. (Yeah, like I said, this whole storage unit thing is new to me, but I think I've got the hang of it now.) They've always been nice and very helpful. The whole process of getting into my locker is easy enough, but it's much easier if you have a second person with you. Pull up to the gate, put in your secret code, the gate lifts. Pull up to the garage, have the second person get out of the car, put in the secret access code again to get into the warehouse. They go in, lift up the garage door and you drive into the loading zone. (See, without a second person, you would have to get out of the car, pull up the garage door yourself and hook it, get back in the car, drive in, then close the garage door. And same thing on the way out.) My unit is on the second floor. There's two elevators which are great, the only thing is you have to call them up and down. So far, I haven't had a problem. My unit is small but big enough for what I need. I'm still getting a handle on those big ol' carts, but I'm getting better. My only complaint is that it's very far on the south side of town, in the Summerside neighbourhood.

We used this location for several years despite the dour and annoyed front staff. We used the unit…read morefor our long term storage as well as camping and holiday stuff, so we were in fairly regularly and never had any big problems. If we did the front counter staff would grudgingly respond. One particular morning I dropped my kid off at her first day of daycare and went down to the unit to drop off some outgrown stuff. A vehicle was moving towards to gate in front of me, but parked at the last minute. I went to the gate anyways and entered my code and this vehicle tried to piggy back me into the lot. Years ago I had a storage unit broken in to when someone piggy backed someone else into that yard (a different storage place). To stop this vehicle from pulling around me in the gate I ended up having to block the entrance with my car. I got out to ask the other driver to enter their code. He started swearing at me up and down asking if I knew who I was talking to. This was his storage yard and he could do what he wanted. What was my problem?!? I reminded him that if he was the owner he was familiar with the security waver that I signed and would have his own code to access (it was our phone numbers - not hard to remember). He started attacking my character, that I obviously had nothing better to do with my time than hinder the real work of way more important people than me. He went on and on so vehemently that I got inside my car, closed the windows and called the office. The front counter confirmed his identity and advised me to pull through. I did and the owner blocked my vehicle from getting in to the garage until he was parked and then went on to call me names across the garage and berate me, loudly, to a staff member working nearby, as I went about my business. We immediately cancelled our service, moved our stuff to the storage company beside this one and have had nothing but amazing service and support. If you want to support the kind of guy who would take a run at a customer for doing what they agreed to do, this is the place for you! If you want your stuff stored in a facility that doesn't care who enters or exists. Here you go!! If you would rather support local than support character... this guy will gladly take your money and treat you like crap, because he's the owner, don't you know. Maybe if he put up a statue of himself I would have recognized him. All hail storage douche.

FYI you are not allowed to store your RV in your front driveway from Nov 1 to April 1 according to…read morethe City of Edmonton. I have found this out the hard way this year thanks to lovely letter I received in the mail. I was then forced to find somewhere to store my trailer just recently. Thankfully, thanks to some friends, I was able to locate Heritage Valley RV Storage. It's located fairly close to the southside of the city and the people running it are amazing. They were able to find me a spot to pull my trailer in hours before my time ran out and fines started to incur. THANKS CARLY!!!! The rates here are so reasonable, depending on the size of the trailer and how long you are going to be parking it. If you need access, they can even get you a key to the gate for a fee. It's such a nice, close location I might use my regular backyard spot to garden in rather than trailer parking next year!

The storage yard is huge and yet fully enclosed by a high fence. Before anyone can even enter the storage yard they have to get past the industrial strength gate. Once in people might notice a large dog house for the large dog. He is very friendly with paying guests but he also walks around the storage yard on a regular basis. I don't know what the dog would do if someone tried to climb in but at the very least he would make a lot of noise. Carey, who runs the storage facility lives with her husband right next door and he farms the land that doesn't have trailers parked on it so there is always someone nearby. Carey is very accommodating. The rates are quite reasonable but sooner or later they are bound to increase. The city limits used to be 41 Ave, SW which is across the street. Now the city of Edmonton as annexed futher south and that can't be good for the future of the storage facility or their farm. I hope that Carey continues to run the facility for many more years as it will be difficult to find a location that's as safe for our trailer as Heritage RV Storage. This is a 5 star operation.
