I would recommend Zeke to anyone who prefers to get a massage in the comfort of their own home. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of the good ol' day spa, but I love the idea of a healing massage at home, so I searched and thankfully, Zeke was the first to pop up. He was so easy to communicate with, professional, responsive and super mellow. I like that he has a mix of techniques to choose from and he intuitively knows what your body needs. For me there was a lot of stretching and clearing of some stuck energy. It's $200 for 70 minutes, which is pretty on par with a spa...and he travels a large radius for clients, so you're in luck. Ya gotta book a little in advance though. I will work with Zeke again, as the more he knows your body, the better he can troubleshoot any issues (kind of like relaxing physical therapy :) Thanks Zeke!! read more

Zeke is amazing. His energy and work is fantastic. Never a disappointment in a sessions. He's my go to monthly and I always look forward to them. I highly recommend his work to anyone who's looking for massage, healing and overall wellness. read more

As a person who works a desk job (aka has always had chronic neck / shoulder pain), I've had decades of massages. I can 100% say that Zeke is the best. In this COVID world, having Zeke come to my house and provide a 90 minute outdoor backyard session has been the only thing that's kept me sane. It's just pure bliss. I may never prefer an indoor massage again. Just as his website mentions, he's all about improvisation - like good jazz. My second session was nothing like my first. After my first, I felt so energized that I wanted to go for a run. After my second, I slept like a baby...and by that I mean, I fell asleep that evening without soreness in my shoulder for the first time in years. He's extremely talented and in another era, he'd be considered a healer. Yes, he's that good. For anyone who needs just a little TLC during this crazy time, I suggest shooting Zeke a note. But please not everyone as I'd still like my regular backyard sessions. :) read more

This was the first time I have had a massage in my home and I'll admit I was a little hesitant/nervous. The experience was outstanding in every way. Zeke was prompt, professional, patient, safe and considerate, as a guest/service provider in my home. This was, simply and profoundly, the best massage I have ever experienced. He setup a very comfortable table, heated pad, clean sheets. Perfection in choosing a setup location in front of my woodstove and we both enjoyed the best soundtrack possible (unplanned) of my sweet Great Dane breathing deeply, very sound asleep next to us the whole time. It was amazing! My two rascally kitties popped in and out, but I was in such incredible bliss and so relaxed that their feline shenanigans weren't even a distraction. What a wonderful gift Zeke has. He's a master and a healer. I'll be including as often as possible as I continue to work on my own health issues, which he was able to focus on for me and I very much appreciated his therapeutic, healing techniques. He's just lovely! Do not hesitate to seek him out, wherever he might be. read more

I didn't see Zeke's website before booking my appointment - I just found him on the Yelp app and saw that he works in my neighborhood. Turns out this was a movie I didn't need to preview; I got a better massage, and a different massage, than I was expecting. The word "Esalen" holds a revered, whimsical status among people who live in California who have heard of the place: a haven for yogis/yoginis, for soul searchers, for breathers, meditators, shamans and seekers of holistic vitality. If you like credentials before getting a service, I think Esalen is the Harvard of bodywork. The massage happened in a very small side studio with just enough room to hang your coat, slip behind the sliding screen doors and get into the soft blankets adorning the table bed. After an ill prepared stab at a 5k run on Thanksgiving, I needed a lot of help with pulled muscles and stiffness. I felt like Zeke was removing some sort of exoskeleton and reaching the muscles that needed encouragement, as well as the person inside of me that needed some nurturing. It felt great. read more

I can't say enough wonderful things about Zeke. I've had all types of massages from all over the world, and Zeke is by far the best. I found him by serendipity. I had one massage with him before a severe ankle break. I trusted him with my body as it healed, to include one massage while pins were sticking out of my bones. At each step of the healing process he took excellent care of my injury and promotes healing. As if that's not enough, he is a beautiful human with amazing energy. The characteristics that make him a world-class massage therapist are his fluid movement, intuition, kindness, and compassion combined with unparalleled skills, abilities, and techniques!! he's worth WAY more than he charges! Thank you Zeke!!! read more

I've been a client of Zeke's for over a year now and I've continue to be amazed how each massage can be a different journey, yet always be incredibly nurturing and caring. I had only had massages at spas before and hadn't realized how much more healing they could be to both mind and spirit. In addition, he's always responsive to my phone calls as well as be both punctual and courteous. I heartily recommend his services. read more

If you want a really deep massage to work out the kinks and knots that you just can't seem to get rid of, Zeke is the man to see! He knew exactly where and how to apply his pressure and his knowledge of sports injuries and how to combat them was so very helpful. I recently went on a 3 day backpacking trip at Desolation WIlderness in Lake Tahoe. We hiked through all sorts of terrain, and I injured my right shoulder trying to climb up a huge wall of granite slab with a 60L pack on. It's been about 3 weeks now, and I haven't been able to workout or sleep comfortably because of the stiffness and sore aches I've been feeling. I decided that seeing a massage therapist would be the best choice to get rid of this pain and found him on Yelp. Through his website I filled out an intake form which allowed me to write a note about my situation, and he wrote back immediately with his thoughts and suggestions. He felt that it may be a rotator cuff trigger point (which I really had no idea what that was, so googled it and agreed). I then booked an appointment through his scheduling site and I had an appointment the following week. The process was so easy! The massage was PHENOMENAL. He knew exactly which pressure points to work on and had the perfect amount of strength to release the tension I had been feeling for weeks. He told me afterwards that he felt it may be something more than just a rotator cuff trigger point being activated and suggested I follow up by seeing a chiropractor. He was so thorough with his assessments and suggestions. He followed up with an email the next morning, to see how I was feeling and I asked him for recommendations on seeing a chiropractor. He highly recommended a colleague of his: http://www.yelp.com/biz/bruce-del-fante-dc-oakland-3 and after that massage I have full confidence in the advice he gives. Thank you SO MUCH for all your care and thoughtfulness Zeke! I will definitely be back if I ever need a good deep tissue massage again! read more

Zeke is very gifted masseur who embodies immense joy, warmth and loving light! In the 30 years that I've received care I cannot think of another body practitioner that requires so many adjectives to accurately describe his abilities and embodiment. Zeke is well skilled in a multitude of body modalities and massage techniques; additionally, he is strong, conscious, careful, sensitive, loving, precise, careful, completely focused, balanced and most of all very nurturing. He really knows his craft; and his touch is ... magic! read more

After my previous masseur moved out of the area, I wanted to find someone who would provide out-services in my home to better fit into my busy schedule. From the first time I contacted Zeke, he has been personable and professional, and in general a really great guy. As of the writing of this review, I've been using Zeke's services for about a year. His massage is amazing, and was exactly what I was searching for relative to my personal preferences. Each session is unique based on how I'm feeling that day and what body aches I need addressed. The best session was after I had been having back spasms and had answered the door wearing a back brace because it hurt so bad. After his massage with pressure point work, I felt 1000 times better and was pain free the next day. Overall, I highly recommend Zeke, but encourage you to read the FAQs on his website to ensure that his style of massage aligns with your needs and expectations. read more

I moved out of town several months ago and had to stop seeing Zeke. But every day, I become more and more aware of the profound effect that his bodywork had on me. My senses are alive, I've come out of a shell and enjoy each day, I see the small stuff for what it is and no longer sweat it as much as I used to (and am actually getting along with my family members for the first time in years), and I love my body and don't hide it any more. I was swimming in the ocean today and realizing all this while contemplating the exciting weekend that I have coming up - whereas pre-Zeke I used to sit around the house and do nothing most weekends. I can't overstate what a profound effect an awakening like this can have, and I know no one else who could have done this for me. Thanks, Zeke, for everything. read more

Simply put, you will not get a better massage anywhere. Zeke is absolutely the best. My husband and I have been regular clients of his for about two years now. Before each massage he asks, "How's your body?" and tailors his massage appropriately. His massages are never the same twice as he adjusts each one to his intuitive interpretation of your responses. He is also continuously learning new "moves" so his already excellent technique keeps getting better and better. Unlike many massage therapists I've encountered, Zeke gives an excellent deep massage when that is warranted. Many cannot go deep enough and, even worse, many who try to go deep do it far too fast. Zeke applies deep pressures extremely slowly and even stops completely when intuition tells him to go very deep in a certain spot. I have chronic lower back pain and he always seems to know exactly where to apply that pressure. His intuition about what your body needs and how to address it is unsurpassable. If you want a phenomenal massage. Zeke is the guy to to go. read more

Zeke deserves every positive comment that's been posted here about him. I have to agree with all of them. He really does provide great therapeutic bodywork. He checks-in with me before the massage. He has a really nice energy about him. He's got amazing strength. He's intuitive. He's respectful. He's professional. And his massages are always balanced with the strength and pressure I need. Hands down, he's the best massage therapist I've ever worked with. And he's helped me get through several crises of back and shoulder issues caused by stress and work. People joke about going to their special places. Visiting Zeke's studio is mine. Thanks, Zeke. You're wonderful. P.S. Your new studio is really nice. read more

I called Zeke very last minute because I was in town only for a short time. I used to live in the Bay Area and expect excellent massage here, which is why I wanted to get some in while here visiting from the Midwest to do some work. He was able to fit me in, and I'm very glad, because this was the best massage I've had in a year. He did some intense and deep work on the piriformis muscle that was bothering me, and was really strong and also very creative. He had some moves that I've never seen before involving stretching and massage at the same time, and I've had a lot of massage. I also appreciated that he worked without talking, because I like to be silent during my massages. A lot of massage therapists advertise sports or deep tissue work as if it were exclusive from or separate from "relaxing" massage, which true hardcore massage people tend to dislike and stay away from. Zeke really does do both--it isn't just rubbing for sure, everything feels purposeful and like it is accomplishing something. I am not a new age person, more a sports massage person, but he did some energy work or something at the end that gave me a really interesting vision-quest like experience, the like of which I've mostly read about but not experienced. I felt full of energy after a 90 minute massage and leapt off the table. If I lived here I would see him every week. He is such a talented guy and so nice as well. His normal rates are reasonable and in line with other practitioners I've seen. I used the crazy-inexpensive Yelp deal he has going for first-time customers: 90 minutes for 90 dollars So I gave it one star based on this deal. I left a nice tip because this did not seem near enough for the service I had. read more

I'm kind of a massage connisoeur. It's my therapy - - both physical and mental - - so I'm picky. Really picky. But as I said to Zeke today, finding him feels like winning the massage lottery. Zeke is a maestro of massage. He's strong and intuitive and calm and for the 90 minutes or so that I'm on his table, I feel nothing but bliss. Technically, he's an expert in various modalities and he can seamlessly move from deep tissue to pressure point to Swedish, using whichever technique is most suited to discovering and working into all the nooks and crannies where pain and tension and stress and trauma hide out in my body and my brain. But his magic isn't his technical skill, it's his ability to hold space in the massage for real and intense release. It's a rare skill and I'm grateful to be the beneficiary of it. read more

I have been seeing Zeke for the past 4 years now and I can always depend on him to provided the BEST therapy session. I am a student and stress is my life, and for the past three years, I would call onto Zeke to get me centered and adjusted. I walk out from the session like there was nothing wrong with me in the first place. I have had my share of bad massage therapist, and I can vouched for Zeke being one of the best there is. He is nurturing, intuitive, well educated and experienced, and his smile is the first thing you will see, which will gets you calmed and relaxed for "your" session. I wish there is a way to offer him the same service that he has provide me for the past 4 years. read more

I've received hundreds of massages over the past 20 years, and my session with Zeke yesterday was one of the most relaxing and nurturing I've ever had. He embodies all of the best qualities of a great bodyworker. If you're frustrated with the quality of massage therapists in this saturated market, or you're overwhelmed with the choices, I suggest that you turn that noise off and book an appointment with Zeke right now. I am also a massage therapist, and Zeke has been coaching me with my practice for the past month. I'm already starting to see better results from my marketing efforts. I'm excited about continuing to work with Zeke, and look forward to trying out some of the techniques he shared with me. read more

This is the best massage experience I've found! My career demands physical movement and my bad habits demand some extra care. I travel all over the country and look forward to coming to Northern California. Zeke's technique works through the whole body and gives me both the deep massage on my shoulders, hands, and hips that ache, and his work gives me a fresh balance on a daily basis. We have worked together (when I am in the area) since 2004 and I have yet to find a more complete and relaxing massage therapy treatment. I look forward to another session in a couple of weeks! Thanks!! read more

Zeke is truly a healer. In my 49 years on this planet and literally 100's of massages I have never experienced a massage like the transformative experience I had with Zeke. From our first communication via email he was professional, kind and responsive. He books up quickly but was able to get me on his schedule as soon as he had availability. He does not book more than one or two massages a day so that he is fully present with each client (and it shows in his work). He confirmed the day before, texted me shortly before arriving and was on time the day of the massage. He set up with nice sheets and a warm full body heating pad underneath. He took the time to "tune into" my body and started with some slow movements and gradually worked into the massage. I appreciated that. I had a tremendous amount of tension and he was able to work out knots in my back and neck. He seemed to intuitively know what my body needed. My deep breathing was almost automatic and I could feel the tension release from my body (I swear it was decades of tension.. ) with each stroke of his skilled hands. He balanced deep work with soft nurturing touch. I had experienced one Esalen massage almost 30 years ago and appreciated those elements as part of the massage. If you haven't had one before it encourages breath work (although he didn't.. I just remembered this.. and knew he wouldn't think I was "weird" for doing my yogic breathing to release the tension .. ) and incorporates an almost "psycho-spiritual" aspect to the massage.. With the right therapist it becomes almost a "dance" of energy. It's hard to explain. I was left transformed. After being in pain for months. I picked up my 3 kids from school that afternoon feeling lighter, happier, and more centered.. as well as feeling grounded. The weekend was joyful and productive. I have been virtually pain free for the last couple of days since the massage. I am looking forward to my next session. What a blessing Zeke is to this world. I am a nurse and am finally learning that self care is essential. Zeke is going to be part of how I care for myself so that I can care for others. read more

I experienced a Zeke massage a couple of months ago and felt compelled to offer a review after reading of another woman's negative experience. Like her, I felt my legs opened during the massage and my chest was included in the areas of my body he worked on. I was not familiar with Esalen massage prior to this appointment and found that this technique was a different experience than other massages I've had. In my experience with Zeke, the inclusion of my chest and stretching movement of my legs did not alarm me in any way. None of it felt sexual. At all times, I felt like I was under the care of an experienced professional. This massage released tightness in my hips and groin allowing me more freedom of movement for running and yoga. He released tightness in my neck and shoulders and followed up the next day with a phone call. I found him to be a very kind, caring, and experienced professional. I wouldn't hesitate to book another massage with this kind, strong, caring masseuse! (And I also noted that he waited politely behind the screen while I dressed- maybe because there's no lobby/ waiting area outside??) read more

All I can say is WOW, Zeke is back! A little over five years ago, Zeke disappeared. Just left his business behind. No one- not even his ex wife!- knew what happened to him! I thought I would never hear from my most favorite beloved massage therapist, ever again. Imagine my surprise, that, this time, when I google him, a website actually shows up! Wow! How I met Zeke is like this: Around 5 years ago, he was renting a small studio space in Albany, CA, on a street named Evelyn. I happened to live on that street at the time. I would see him from time to time, hanging outside his studio on Evelyn, and would see him greet clients on the street. I got curious, asked him about his work, he shared that he was/is a massage therapist, so I thought, what the heck, this guy is three houses down from where I live, why not try a massage with him? Well, I had a massage. And another, and another. I have gone to many massage therapists before Zeke and gone to many since. Simply put: Zeke is masterful at what he does. He's so good, I would find myself every now and then geek-ing out on how exquisite a particular stroke he did on my body, or a particular way he held my body. This man is an artist, and bodies are his canvas. There will never be another Zeke. If you can find a way to get a massage from him, DO IT. Seriously. Whatever he charges, he's worth it. Welcome back Zeke! We love you! read more

I really would give Zeke 10 stars if I could. I've had a lot of massages over the years, and this really is the only one that is consistently worth coming back for. Seriously the best masseuse I have ever encountered. He is intuitive, strong, focused and effective. He's able to go deep and address stubborn knots and tension, all the while holding a light and sensitive energy. I find his massages so transformative that rather than an occasional indulgence they've become a necessary expenditure. He's super responsive to booking inquiries, and all around delightful. I've never had anything less than a perfect massage, and leave feeling incredibly grateful that I discovered someone who is so skilled at what they do. This is as good as it gets. read more

Recently, a neck spasm so bad I couldn't turn my head to one side for days alerted me to the fact that I've been a walking knot of tension, owies, and a fierce inability to relax. I'd seriously stopped feeling human, just... Like my body was surly and constantly shaking its fists at clouds. So I decided, now that I've overcome my aversion to being touched by a stranger, maybe a massage would help me become able to perceive the good things this world has to offer, even if just for an hour or so, and not just my muscles singing that Idina Menzel song off-key. So, to the Yelps I came and found Zeke! Zeke was super kind even from booking... Never thought I'd type "even his confirmation emails were soothing" but yup, it's true. And he received me with a bright smile, which helped me feel much more at ease so quickly, which is no small feat, I can be kinda chihuahua-like when doing something new... Oh did I mention this was my first pro massage ever?! And it showed, because I couldn't get my brain to stop thinking and my muscles to tense up accordingly, but Zeke and his valiant efforts succeeded and I was soothingly lost in the long strokes, stretches, and kneadings. He was gentle and used his strength wisely, which showed me that he was very present during the massage, not going through motions and thus sticking to one mode/strength. It was like he was reading my body and supplying it with the touch that would help most. It was very nurturing :) And then after he gave me some insight as to how my body was responding to what I'd told him of my life and emailed me links to Kundalini yoga sources, which I'd been considering for a long time! So cool. Will I go back? You bet. You know how, after a good meditation, the world looks almost Technicolor? I hadn't experienced that in years, and it happened after Zeke's massage. I felt healed, body and spirit. Life won't get easier anytime soon, but it helps to know a good healing massage to recharge your life bar is in the neighborhood with Zeke. read more

I've been getting extensive bodywork for the past 30 years and Zeke is extraordinary in every way. I'll keep this short except to say I agree with everything everyone else has said. I have mobility issues, and the option to have someone come to me was wonderful. On occasion, my neck and shoulders lock up and I lose feeling in my arms - Zeke was gentle with my trouble areas, and restored movement in my neck and arms without hurting me (something I usually have issues with when I see a masseur). I wouldn't trust anyone else with my back after seeing Zeke. read more

Zeke is terrific! I had a wonderful massage therapist, whom I saw intermittently over a several year period, but he moved away over 10 years ago . Since then I have had many a massage but Zeke is the first massage therapist since then who actually truly understands how one's body works and treats you and your body as an individual with distinct needs, versus giving everyone the exact same massage. As an earlier reviewer mentioned, every massage is different. Zeke is able to skillfully find and work on trigger points for my migraines, as well as determine what is underlying other problems. Often times I have believed that I might need to see a doctor for some joint issue or other problem and Zeke will know what part of my body may be tight and thus contributing to the pain or problem. With Zeke's skillful, intelligent, and intuitive work my body has come a long way toward becoming more balanced. (I must say that as I am aging I have some of those lovely aging aches and pains which always surprise me.) Zeke has been incredibly supportive since I began seeing him about a year ago. Although he is known for deep tissue work, he is very open and willing to work in a lighter manner if that is your need or preference. Zeke is flexible which is a wonderful trait in a professional massage therapist. Zeke, thank you so much. You are a wonderfully kind and sensitive man with whom I , as a woman, feel completely comfortable during my massages. read more

I've been using Zeke for a long time. I have a handicap and had been hospitalized for months and was extremely weak when I began getting caring, wonderful massages and bodywork from Zeke. When I began, Zeke had to lift me onto his massage table. He couldn't have been more gentle and nurturing. He saw me through some difficult times and it was his work that helped speed my recovery and helped me regain strength. Since then, his weekly massages have always been a high point of my week. His deep tissue and trigger point skills have really helped my lower back pain as well as had great positive effects on other stiff joints and tight muscles. Words can't properly describe what excellent results his work on me has produced. On top of great massages, he is a very warm and caring person. I highly recommend Zeke. read more

I have had Zeke's massages many times over the course of three years. He provides a very nice (and clean), warm, and welcoming environment. He is the only masseur I have returned to with any consistency. Zeke is an incredibly intuitive body worker. During a lengthy, exhausting and debilitating (though successful) medical treatment, I was fortunate indeed in receiving a very healing and supportive weekly massage from Zeek, at Zekesbodyworks, now in Albany, CA (Evelyn Street off Solano Ave). Zeke is aware, light, welcoming and very safe-feeling. He's physically strong and thus capable of very deep work, yet tempers that with a clearly high level of intuition about where his client is, and what he or she needs. He also communicates and listens ery well. I'm pretty extroverted and so received the "bonus" of talking over with Zeke some of the psychological and spiritual issues related to my experience. But then I got so relaxed I shut up. With me, that's an achievement! I recommend Zeke's work very highly. He is attentive, responsive and obviously has received (and thoughtfully integrated) a lot of bodywork training. A really good guy, too. Hence the five stars. Berkeley F. I went to see Zeke today and couldn't wait to see him. After a full week of Crossfit workouts at the gym, I was sore in places I wasn't sore in a long time, especially my upper legs as well as my back. He performed stretches which not only allowed to release the tension in my upper legs, but the soreness in the muscles of my inner thighs was gone. The stretches were unbelievable and he opened my legs and stretched my hips which gave me more flexibility. Also, I have two degenerative discs in my lower back which causes me to have chronic pain deep inside my glute are as well as my hip. Zeke used his chin as a tool for acupressure. Another amazing technique which helps relieve the pain I experience Zeke is very professional, friendly, and a very kind and gentle person I highly recommend him and would trust him with my mom. He continues to get better and better each time I see him. read more

Zeke practices his craft with thoughtfulness, care, and expertise. Probably the most unique aspect of the massage for me, was the Zeke was willing to apply significant pressure. Zeke is an incredible body worker. When you meet him, you would think he is a rugby player because he is has a strong physique. Yet those big hands are so gentle. Zeke is a friendly guy who met me with a pleasant smile when I opened my door to him for our appointment. He was prompt, arriving just early enough to set up his table. Zeke got right down to business, asking a few general questions about specific aches and pains. He came across as someone who genuinely cares about his work and his clients. Zeke's broad base of training, and how he uses his knowledge, benefited me as he adapted his techniques and pressure during the massage. He was very intuitive about this, as if he knew what I needed before I asked. After the massage, I felt entirely relaxed and rejuvenated. I enjoy massage frequently and in many places. Zeke O'Brien so much more than a massage therapist - he is a healer. I first met Zeke over 10 months ago in an elevator in my assisted living building. I had gone into assisted living due to a deteriorating condition associated with damage to my brain. When I met him, his radiant positive energy drew me to him, and by the end of that short elevator ride I had booked my first massage. I have seen Zeke at least once a week ever since. Simply put, I doubt if I will ever stop. He is that good at his craft. A battery of scientists and physicians told me that a steady decline in my health was both unavoidable and untreatable. Through a combination of the best of Western and Eastern medicines, meditative practices, a few miracles and a touch of sheer grit, I am out assisted living. I have moved from a walker to a cane to jogging (albeit slowly). And Zeke has been by my side every step of the way. Literally and figuratively. Pun intended. At the opening of every session Zeke asks "How is your body?". As Zeke has gotten to know my body, I have come to know that this question is deeply open-ended. His work is highly therapeutic, and no massage is ever the same. As a consummate professional, he allows his highly tuned intuition to interpret every nuance of my body and his brilliant science to strengthen, align and heal it. His powerful hands have helped shape, mold and shift my body towards healing. Yet his touch can also be as tender and as light as a feather. Zeke is also a wise man. He has shown me how my emotions, my stress, my hopes and even my fears can be harbored not only in my mind, but within my body as well. I have given gift certificates for a massage from Zeke to friends and family. They are among the most memorable gifts I have ever given. People love him! Working with Zeke can be as short as one session - what an incredible treat for any of us! Or working with Zeke can be the gift of as long a journey towards better health that you and he decide to take. I have never met anyone like Zeke. As I said in my opening line, Zeke is an amazing massage therapist - and Zeke is a healer. If Yelp would allow it, I would give him an entire panoply of stars! read more
