I rarely write reviews for services of any kind, but my experience with Walsh Custom Concepts was…read moreso exceptional that I felt compelled to share it with anyone thinking of upgrading their outdoor space. I hired Steve Walsh and his crew to build a new deck, and outdoor kitchen. There are several reasons I would hire Steve and his crew again in a heartbeat, listed here in no particular order: 1. Steve does what he says he is going to do, and does it when he says he will. From my very first contact with Steve, he has delivered on every commitment he made. Whether it was showing up to our first appointment on time, getting a quote to me, or showing up to do work. 2. Steve communicates extremely well throughout the project. From start to finish, Steve always returned my phone calls, texts and emails. He never once left me hanging when it came to any project related questions I had. 3. Steve and his crew take a team approach to projects, offering advice and listening to customer input. The design process for our project was collaborative in nature, resulting in a finished project that far exceeded our expectations. 4. The quality of work is excellent. From the materials used on the job, to the methods of construction, the entire Walsh Custom Concepts team sets a very high standard, and meets that standard without fail. The proof to me was the day I had my first gathering on the deck and all of my very fussy, do-it-yourselfer friends were blown away by the quality of the work. 5. The owner is the guy doing the work. The first day I met Steve, he showed up with his job trailer in his work clothes. I immediately knew that the guy making the promises was the guy who was going to have to deliver on them. It gives you great comfort making that sort of investment knowing that. 6. Steve and his entire crew are just plain great people. I work near home and came home for lunch every day throughout the project. Every day without fail, the crew would take the time to answer my questions and put up with me watching them work. I appreciate their patience with me throughout the project. Usually, in the best of circumstances, dealing with a contractor on a major construction job for your home can be stressful and nerve wracking. I can honestly say that the entire process of building our dream deck and outdoor kitchen was a pleasure from start to finish, largely due to the diligence, skill, and professionalism of Walsh Custom Concepts. Thinking of a deck or outdoor kitchen? Look no further!

No call back but recovers an "email" back later that night, saying they were caught up with another project. Explained to them how unprofessional it was and how this inconvenienced me and all they had to do was stay in contact and communicate their inability to keep their appointment but apparently, that is not important to them or earning potential business. Apologies after the fact don't mean much- especially when a potential customer has to hunt you down to find out why you didn't show to a scheduled appointment, and then you don't return their call- you email them. Seriously unprofessional.

My Mom's 1960's ranch house has had water issues since I was a child. She was fiercely independent…read moreand never wanted her children to help manage the house up until a few years ago. Her basement was a mess! Beyond it being filled with decades of stuff, the walls were "weeping" and a large puddle was forming in one portion of her basement. John did a walk-through with me and thoroughly explained what was occurring. I signed the estimate, which kindly included him and his staff moving all the "stuff" away from the walls to the center of the basement. H-U-G-E task. Before the job started we hit an unexpected bump in the road (the removal of some asbestos floor tiling, which NYS required licensed professionals to handle). John calmly walked me through the process and was able to work with me and my timeline. All throughout the project John would update me, even sending me pics, when I was not able to get over to Mom's house. He was honest about his abilities, and took the time to meet with me and answer questions after the project was completed and paid for. I found John and his company to be trustworthy and reliable and only wish they did home renovation so I could hire them to do work in my house.

I was very disappointed with my experience with Quality Carpet. I put down a deposit and scheduled…read moremy carpet installation well in advance. I took the day off work and moved furniture and made all of the necessary preparations for the installation. The day before the scheduled installation, I called to confirm that everything was still on schedule, as I had not received a follow-up confirmation. I spoke with the owner, Kim, and simply asked that the installers wear shoe covers/booties when entering my home. I consider this a reasonable and common courtesy when workers are coming into someone's home, especially when furniture is being moved onto brand-new carpet. Unfortunately, Kim's response was extremely unprofessional and dismissive. She told me that the installers were "not pigs" and would not be wearing booties. When I explained that I was uncomfortable with people walking through my home with outdoor shoes and then stepping onto the new carpet while moving my furniture, she stated that she was too busy to deal with it and immediately refunded my deposit and canceled my order. While I appreciate that my deposit was refunded promptly, the situation was extremely frustrating. I had taken an entire day off work, moved my furniture, and prepared my home, only to have the installation canceled the day before. I was then forced to start over and order through a larger commercial company. Weeks later, I still do not have my carpet. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling that the customer service and professionalism were lacking. I understand that not every business can accommodate every request, but I believe there was a much more professional way to handle a simple and reasonable concern. Do not recommend. Also saved $200 with corporate carpet location.

It was a winter installation. By summer, the boards he had installed were warping with the humidity. Once winter returned, the dry air would bring the boards back nearly to their original fit. After seeing this pattern over 2 years, I brought Mr. Case out to see if he could correct the problem. He came out, looked at the warped boards, said he'd get back to me but never did. It seems that he doesn't want to repair his own faulty work. I've called and left message but had no return phone calls. Buyer beware. It must be the wood he used wasn't properly seasoned or dried, or that it wasn't cut and installed with enough tolerance for subtle changes in Rochester humidity. In either case, it's disappointing when a craftsman won't stand behind his work.
