After a couple weeks of research in search of a professional organizer that understood our vision and what we were looking to accomplish, we ended up going with Sensational Organizing! Elva is amazing and my only regret is not hiring her sooner. I hired her as a 33rd birthday gift to myself---which is the most adult gift I have ever conceived of. I asked her to help me go through my 590 sq foot studio apartment which had gone majorly neglected after a back injury, knee surgery, a breakup and a couple of years of graduate school. I kept thinking to myself, "Why can't I keep this tiny space clean?" I am normally neat and tidy in every other area of my life but my home remained a mess. I talked to Elva through the "get a quote" function on Yelp, texted her a few pictures of my apartment and talked to her on the phone about my goals. We decided on a One Day Blitz package which was $380 for four hours of work. On the day of our appointment, Elva had to recite some affirmations while looking at myself in the mirror. I had to look myself in the eye and tell myself it is OK to let go and that everything I need will come to me in time. Oof. Damn, girl, I hired you to organize my stuff not look into the innards of my soul. But, boy oh boy, was it effective! For four hours Elva took out stuff from closets, drawers, cabinets and arranged them categories. My job was to go through each category and decide what to keep, what gets trashed and what goes into donation bag. Elva also taught me how to store my stuff such that they have "homes" and are easy to access. At the end of the day, Elva collected everything I did not want to keep and promised to dispose of the trash properly (like dropping off batteries to an e-waste center, a chore I never get around to!) and donate my stuff to the charity of my choice. Elva is fantastic! She understands our struggles in keeping an organized space and is thoughtful in her guidance on how to best utilize the space you have. I have a small office space in my master bedroom and it has always been my collector of everything that doesn't have a "home". There were piles of papers from my kids' schools, work papers for my husband and myself, miscellaneous mailings that weren't quite ready for the trash, toys, books, business cards...literally, anything you can think of.
