Senior Settlers completed a huge job for me and my husband. They completed a downsizing and move from a 4 bedroom home to a 1+ bedroom assisted living residence that would have been impossible to be tackled by anyone else. The services included drawing layout options that would show some of our furnishings in the new residence -- which wasn't much! The majority of our home's belongings were organized into items moving with us, donations, possible consignment, landfill, and limited storage. The team members were very positive and upbeat -- "fast" is an understatement and they definitely worked well together. While it's unfortunate that the speed prevented more oversight than my husband or I could give (therefore, losing several items), the job was completed given the timeline we pressed for. I cannot recommend Senior Settlers enough. They moved my mother, who has dementia, from one assisted living to another. She had a TON of junk that needed to be sorted, some moved, some to a storage unit, some to donation and some to landfill. The people who came were wonderful. They were cheerful and efficient and moved her stuff from one place to another on one day. Set everything up, including folding clothes, handing pictures and making up the bed. She was able to walk into her new home and have it look like her old home, which really reduced her stress level. The next day, they sorted out everything else into storage, donation and junk, and had her old room totally cleaned out. They put all the storage into a new storage unit - wonderfully neat! After five-plus years here in my apartment in this Senior community, I still mourn the pictures, furniture, and pottery collection I left behind, cannot replace, but have ample room for. Senior Settlers took advantage of my sadness and confusion when I moved. They were always in a mad rush. And they always said no, no room for that. However, soon after I moved in, I realized that they basically were so hurried, they did not take time to seriously evaluate my space and certainly did not speak to me about my desires and values! Perhaps they thought I would die soon, so these things didn't matter. But here I still am, living with their carelessness and haste. In addition, though we had a signed contract that said they would transfer my landline and arrange for me to keep my phone number, in the end, they said it was too much trouble and they did not have the time, and they just did not do it. But they did not offer me any reimbursement for the unfulfilled contract. One picture I "did not have room for" made its way out of my home, my son later told me, under the arm of a Senior Settler. I needed to move across the country and had one week to take care of all of my belongings including donating some large items, and they just came right in and got the job done in two days. It was incredible. I am an active 73-year old woman, but faced with the stressful task of ruthlessly downsizing from my three-story Victorian to a small one-story bungalow was overwhelming, even after many months of hard work getting rid of as many items as I could. I am an artist and an antique collector, and I had lived in my beloved house for over 45 years, so even though it was tidy and curated, there was simply a lot of stuff that had to go to new homes. I managed to clear out a lot, but I was exhausted and there was still so much to do. I simply couldn't do any more on my own, and I contacted Senior Settlers. Their incredible service was worth every penny, and they even came in under budget!! I had things as organized as I could to make their job easier, but it was truly amazing what they accomplished in less than a week, without breaking or damaging a single item. Many skilled and careful hands made for an efficient process of first measuring rooms and proposed furnishings to figure out a floor plan in the smaller space, organizing and packing up everything I wanted to keep (and gently advising on what to leave behind), moving me out and unpacking at the new address, putting dishes in cupboards, food in the refrigerator, clothes in closets, and books on shelves in a logical manner, taking all of the boxes and wrappings and trash away (and even taking back to the old house some pieces of furniture that ended up being too big for the new space), having a computer technician get my digital devices and internet functioning, and even helping me hang my art on my new walls with a skilled eye for placement and arrangement! On the final day they cleared out everything left in my old house, leaving it completely empty, and took the few remaining furnishings to be donated. On top of all of this, they were cheerful, kind, compassionate about the huge trauma I was going through, and very, very smart and funny. They helped me to winnow out what could be left behind for recycling, repurposing, or giving away from my home of 30 years. They did this in 4 days! They did the packing, the hiring of excellent movers that were not expensive; they supervised those movers and then unpacked the boxes so that I could sleep in a made bed that night; they came back the next day to complete the job including setting up my kitchen. Senior Settlers was fantastic. I didn't realize how much I needed them until they came in and did the job. They took the lead in moving my aging mother from her home to an assisted living community. They organized what she needed to bring with her and then led the set-up of her new apartment. They knew what needed to be done and how to do it in the most efficient manner. After the move, they helped clean out my mother's home. Their real value is that they know what items go where: what should get sold, what should get donated (and where), and what goes to the dump. They even called a hauler who was very economical and a better deal than I would have been able to locate on my own. Moira and Chuck are well worth the cost (which they accurately estimate in the beginning).
