Half a round pitza with schamutz cheese!
    Robin P.

I have gone to Senape's (locals frequently say it as though it was "Snaps) since childhood growing up in the Hazleton area. It is spelled pitza, not pizza. The place has tile floor, so it's noisy with voices echoing and nothing to muffle sounds. This makes it fun to eavesdrop and to join in friendly conversations. Customers are cheerful toward each other during all of my visits. We frequently see folks we know. Typical decor for a pizza shop. Deb was our waitress the last 2 visits, and she's terrific, efficient and friendly. We ordered a large round pie with schamutz cheese. Delicious! Perfectly seasoned tomato sauce. Right amount of cheese. We shared a half pitcher of birch beer on tap (aka draft). You have to wait for your freshly made to order food. It is so worth it! Street parking is fine but pay attention all of the one way streets. Our cost was well under 20 bucks, including a good tip. Great establishment!!

Pitza was great- fresh sauce and bread. Service was great as well. The place was small but it was old school. No complaints. I shall return!

Oh my God! I can completely and honestly say this is the best pizza I have had since moving to PA and that's alot to say from some one that came from NY. Love Jerry's stories and the staff are what I wish other place could be, down to earth people that is hard to find in today's society.

Old school place, old school pizza. I try to eat here once every 6 months. Get a tray of the square extra scamutz, a blend of mozzarella and provolone cheese. If you're lucky you'll get a piece where the cheese has melted over the crust and get a little crispy. This pitza is so good I rarely ever from getting anything else on the menu. If your in the mood for a variety of their pitza toppings give the Senapetizer a try. Call your order in ahead of time. There is nothing fancy about the dining area, a few family pictures on the wall along with some Yuengling local beer signs. Enjoy the checker table cloth and take care of your waitress!

WTF... waited 30 minutes to get a drink, then was given stale bread! Took 2 hrs for a pizza & salad. Servers are all young kids without experience. Place was full with EVERYONE waiting a long time. Not worth it.

Went here after hearing good things and seeing reviews and was not impressed. The restaurant is ok seating wise. We ordered anti pasta salad, pizza, and beer. The only thing that came correct was the salad. The pizza has a good crust but didn't care for the sauce. The mushrooms were also canned which was a big disappointment for the pizza. Not an expensive place. If the items were correct it would be good but am not planning to return.

Place is old and run down. Pizza was good at on time now is hit and miss mostly miss. Service is slow and unattended. The town is falling apart along with this business. In the 70s this place was hoping. Sad those days are long gone.

On my top 3 list for best pizza of all time. It's a small family owned local pizza dive. The deep dish is phenomenal.

There's a lot of great pizza in Hazleton, but none compare to a twelve cut from Senapes.

That being said they offered two bands the first night was cheeseball the second band much better as well as a good DJ. We stayed at Jon half hour away I wish there were better options for accommodations. Additionally, we stayed 3nights at this house which left much to be desired. It's a good one maybe two night stay but not worth 3 nights. Vendors were great and undecided if I'd come back. My thoughts are to ho to a different cigar fest rather then just do the same one over. We will see but at this point I give the event itself a 5 star but the Poconos a 1 star feel very run down and in need of a huge refresh.

The food is off the charts, with the quality of the meats, and seafood they select, to it's preparation, and it's taste. From what I've read about it in cigar publications, 70% of it's restaurant business are non-smokers. And that says a LOT about their food, and ever changing menu. The food is so good, that non-smokers are willing to tolerate cigar smoke, just to have dinner there. I'd say thats an impressive compliment to their chef's. The service was good, although sometimes they get caught up in the "chaos" when the restaurant gets really busy, like during their "Smoke-onos in the Poconos" Cigar Festival, but that's totally understandable because they're basically hosting over 1,000 festival goer's because that festival is THAT successful. I call it Disney World for cigar smokers. It's a fun event. I did, however, have one problem at the event this year, an event I have been attending since it first started in 2024. They offer an included breakfast buffet on the last day, Sunday morning, 4/17/26. It's included with the type of ticket I had purchased. After sitting down to eat my breakfast, they asked me for the "breakfast coupon". They never had these at previous events, they just checked our event wrist bands, and breakfast was served. I didn't have it because I didn't even know there was one. I explained to the GENERAL MANAGER - SCOTT MCMACKEN, that my coupon was buried in my luggage, and my truck was parked down the hill, and at a distance, and because of my physical disabilities, and all the walking around we had to do over the long weekend, I informed him I was in a lot of pain in my spine, and hips, and walking down the hill, and then climbing back up, wasn't an option for me, unless I'm leaving. I had 2 different items on me to prove, beyond any doubt, that I was a ticket holder with this breakfast buffet included. His response, "I don't want to see those, you need to have the coupon, or you have to pay for breakfast". And that was it, after I had already started eating. I just want to "thank" him, personally, for his total lack of courtesy, and discretion, and for making me pay another $22, after spending $350 on an event ticket, and the additional $1300 I spent on cigars, and other items, in their cigar store, and at the event. I've never been treated like that, by ANY business, when my disabilities came into play during a discussion, of any kind, regarding doing business with anyone. The $22 was nothing, at all, to pay. It was his lack of discretion, when I mentioned why I couldn't walk to my truck to get the coupon, and his total lack of concern for my needs, when I offered him the pass card I was wearing around my neck at the event, and his flat out refusal to even look at the digital ticket proving that I was a Super VIP ticket holder. Very surprising treatment, for ANYBODY, for a business like this. But this is just one person, thank God, which doesn't reflect on the rest of the service, and professionalism, of the rest of the staff. Overall, it's still an excellent cigar, and dinner, destination....

This establishment was formerly Capone's , a name it went by for a long time. Before that, It's history as a spirits pub goes back many years . Right when you go inside the bar, will tell you you're in an old old establishment. You don't see this type of bar-back construction anymore. And it's original. Fast fwd to today. It is very revitalized with new owners recently taking over the reins of the place late in 2020. This non- smoking establishment has a good sized back room with tables as well as tables and a high top in the main bar area. They can seat 10-20 if you let them know ahead of time. The crowd pressure is both local flavor and transient, especially in the outdoor recreation warm months. The fact it sits right on the D&L Trail is also a nice point. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Most of the time they go out of their way to make sure you're served and conversed with, if your into that. The menu has grown and evolved also. The food has great flavor and is a decent sized plate. The cooking here seems exceptional for a local tavern. There are specials running almost every night. Taco Tuesdays and other special food offerings are also to be had. The Wings are big and meaty; the sauce is generous and the best I've had in the area. And that exceptional meal on Sundays that runs as a special "Grandma's SUNDAY Dinners". The Burgers are as big as trampolines and tasty. The customer area is a welcoming atmosphere with some games and great music machine. Karaoke or Triva Mondays, Live music most every Saturday night now. Besides the staple menu, there was a rotating menu featuring a soup, mussel dish, flatbread, burger, and pasta. The food took some time to come out, and everything was rather bland across the board. The interior was decorated nicely for the holidays though. *Hummus Platter: a huge shareable for $10. The crispy naan resembled the Costco version but fried. The naan itself worked well as a base for the hummus, although the hummus was neither smooth nor flavorful. There was no fragrance from the chickpeas, and it tasted rather unseasoned. The selection of peppers, carrots, and cucumbers was decent. *Garlic Butter Mussels: their monthly mussel dish. The mussels were cooked well and coated in a one dimensional sauce. The sweet wine was cooked down with lots of garlic, while the butter was subtle. I wished there had been a bit more toasted baguette to balance the one pound of seafood. Note there is a 3% credit card surcharge. I could not find this listed on their menu and but I saw the charge on my receipt. I enjoyed the few beers I had, and the food was acceptable for a bar. With some improvement to the flavors, this could be a worthwhile visit for a bite and a drink.
