A happy breath of the exotic! We love to travel the world and part of that experience is enjoying the local cuisine. This was a wonderful combo of many regional delights. Even better - you can customize what you want in your wrap! If I lived closer I would come multiple times a week.

I spotted this place as I was on my way home one day. I pulled in and saw it was pick your own items which I like. I decided on a bowl and you can pick a rice (2 choices), or lettuce. You can add a protein and 5 or 6 additional items to top them along with sauces. I had the gyro meat, yellow rice, black olives, feta, tomato cucumber, lettuce with garlic and white sauce. Everything looked and tasted fresh. I took it to go and it wasn't soggy by the time I got home which was good. There was enough in there for me to give my husband what he would call a 'snack' portion. I also picked up a pistachio cake from the side refrigerator. That was good too and was the recommended flavor by the cashier. She was the friendliest person there as the people on the food line, not so much and that would be my only complaint. It was my first time there which was evident and I also let them know when their patience seemed to be worn thin quickly with my lack of how the process worked.

I love this place! It's like a subway, but with Mediterranean food. The ingredients are very fresh. I especially love their grape leaves!!!! The falafel is great too! The staff is very friendly and willing to let you taste items you're not familiar with. I always have pretty quick service and almost never have to wait in line. There's plenty of seating, but I always order to go. The place is clean and I always feel welcome.

Huge portions. Great service. Allergy friendly. All around 5/5 stars. I would compare the ordering style to a fast casual Mexican chain, you can get a bowl with rice or hummus, pick your meat and toppings. Everything was fresh and they were happy to let me try things I was unfamiliar with. If you've never had Mediterranean food I think this is a fantastic way to go. If you have had it and love it, this is also a good spot because the portions are HUGE and quality is great. My meal could have easily been 4 servings. Thank you SemSem! Can't wait to go back.

Such good food! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The hummus was incredibly creamy, the falafel was perfectly crispy, and the lamb was tender and juicy. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the staff was friendly and attentive. If you're looking for authentic Mediterranean cuisine, this is the place to go. I'll definitely be coming back!

Delicious Chicken Over Rice bowl. Tasty pitas. and the falafel is made fresh. It's well seasoned and crunchy. The hot sauce is perfect - I don't know if it's homemade, but it's fantastic. Definitely the go-to in the area for Mediterranean food. I've been here multiple times and never had a bad experience. The chicken sharwarma bowls, hummus, and falafel (usually made fresh to order) are top notch. I like things spicy and their spicy rice and fire sauce are no joke. On top of everything the staff has always been friendly and courteous. Highly recommended! read more

This will be one our new go-to restaurants when we're in the mood for falafel. The staff is great, they are clearly proud to be a part of the restaurant, and offer great service. The food is fresh, tasty, and prepared with great care. We had the vegetarian plate, pita falafel, cauliflower, and baklava. All amazing. I can't rave enough about the service. Outstanding! out of the world experience! If you are craving falafel , hummos or shawerma this is the place to go! My advice is to go there with a bunch of your friends so you could try a variety of dishes . If you've never tried Middle Eastern food this is a good start. It is set up like the popular Mexican place where you can choose bowls, wraps ...similar but middle eastern choices. Absolutely delicious. First off, the fries were amazing. Second, I got the falafel pita and it was probably the best I've ever had. It was very clean inside and everything looked very good. I only spend $9 and it was so much food I couldn't even finish it! I've driven past many times but finally came to try it out and I'm so glad I did! I dont want to say I am on a Mediterranean kick at all having visited Naf Naf and Fatousch, but did have a chance to swing in and try some appetizers. Did the babba ghanouj. Not bad. Needed some seasoning, but basic stuff. Pitas were super warm and fresh. Super clean place. The humus was so so. Not bad, not knock it outta the park either. Solid offering. Been meaning to try the schwarma for lunch. So will let you know. read more

Honestly one of the best Middle Eastern dining experiences I've had in a very long time. Have gotten all the different types of meat and falafel in a puta wrap and have been blown away by how good it all tastes. They flatten the pita sandwich on a panini maker which crisps up the outside while maintaining an amazingly gooey interior. Everything tastes so fresh. The French fries are really good and worth the wait to get fresh! Definitely stop in here and try excellent, healthy food! read more

I selected feta as one of my toppings, and they literally placed a solid brick of it on top of the bowl. ‍ The other toppings looked like maybe a couple of tablespoons each. The wrap was also served in a floppy tortilla. From what I'm used to, places typically crisp the tortilla slightly in a pan before wrapping it so it has some texture and a little crunch. I'm glad to see that others seem to be enjoying their meals here, but unfortunately this experience just wasn't it for me. I guess I'll have to make the drive to the GOAT -- Sem Sem.

Great place IF you like 15 dollar wrap sandwiches with a side of slickness. Let me preface this by saying, I frequently patronize ethnic restaurants (mostly Middle Eastern and Indian) in the Chicago area. I also go to grocers such a Bee-san and Wala' on 95th. I teach Arabic and am quite familiar with the culture. I was really surprised by the blatant lack of ethics and the bait and switch. The menu says one thing and the prices on the register are quite different. I pointed this out immediately. The associate did not seem to want to honor the supposedly outdated prices on his menu, but ultimately did. The other guy spoke in Arabic (which I understand and used while there) about adding taxes, etc. They were trying to up the price back up. The menu doesn't mention that toppings are extra. He quickly added on four toppings--this was never mentioned anywhere. Then, another two dollars was added. My sandwich plate, advertised on the menu at 8.49, rang up at almost 14 dollars. I told them they could keep it and left. Save yourself the trouble and expense and go to Naf Naf down the street. Or better yet, head up to 87th and Harlem where the prices are jacked up. The food I did taste (they gave me a sample) was completely average. They don't even have kifta kabob on the menu. I suspect they thought they could bait and switch with me because I'm a woman and perhaps they thought I was clueless about the culture? Stereotypes abound. They wouldn't try this with a dude (especially of a certain ethnicity). ! read more

The restaurant's menu includes Piat, wrap, bowl, falafel, and signature items, which you can mix and match according to your taste. These items can be purchased separately or as a plate, and the latter offers better value for money. Whether you choose to dine in or take out, you may experience chaos when paying for your food. This is because there is often a backlog of special orders in front of the cashier, who has limited English and has to figure out which order belongs to whom before checking them out. Although Semsem Mediterranean Restaurant has great potential, it lacks organization and structure. Hi this is my first yelp ever, and my first visit to SemSem Mediterranean restaurant. I went it knowing I wanted a Gyro sandwich. You can't go wrong with what you know right? The gentleman and lady were very pleasant and nice. They handed out samples to the customers. Delicious by the way. I got to the counter and asked for a gyro. The nice lady explained that gyro was almost ready....meaning fresh. She suggested I try a steak and chicken wrap, and she even picked toppings. Now listen hear, I took a bite into the wrap. OMG, this is very good food especially when your mind is set on something else to begin with. If you love Mediterranean food, forget that GOOD food period. My husband came around 2pm Friday to get a falafel sandwich and they told him it would be 5 minute wait so he chooses a beef shawarma sandwich meal, the server didn't even bother ask what he would on it and proceed to put what ever the server wanted and he put lots of onions and tomatoes and the sauce that was very watery started wrapping the sandwich like he was not standing there so my husband chose not to get the sandwich and left. While we were leaving someone came to the door and acted like he wanted to fight and actually even opened the door when we were on the busy street just watching us. Had previously been a very big fan of Naf Naf but they closed. So, I tried Sem Sem. It was good. Everyone was very nice. I got a bowl similar to what I had gotten other places. It was good but it felt like it was missing something. The flavor profile wasn't as complex or something. Some spices missing maybe. I think I was comparing it too hard to Naf Naf. It was good, fresh, and everyone was nice. I'm going to try it again soon and see how I feel. But they fell short on my first visit. I'm surprised more people haven't reviewed this place. Hands down the best shawarma sandwich I've had in the states and I've been all over. The falafel sandwich is also very good but may not be ideal for all as it's not in its traditional form. This place serves a modern style of sandwich which is excellent in my opinion.
