Semmy's is really fantastic for a quick cheap lunch when you're blitzing through the crowds in the most touristy part of downtown Amsterdam. It's just a five minute walk from the main train station, and 4 euros will get you a fantastic durum or donor kebab.
I personally prefer durum kebabs (the long, wrap style Mediterranean sandwich) but at Semmy's you absolutely have to go for the donor version of everything which is served on a huge but light and airy crusty bun. It's shaped like a kaiser roll but has the texture of a nice French baguette.
My personal favorite is the donor kebab with lamb, although the lady loves the donor falafel sandwich. The fries are solid as well, although they clearly have no idea how much ketchup Americans like to use.
Overall, very American friendly and the guys there are quite sociable and take pride in their product. Don't expect fast food service times, because these guys take care to slice up fresh tomatoes and cucumbers for each sandwich, and even place the ingredients strategically in the bread to make it easier to eat.
Not going to lie, we came here on our second day in Amsterdam and kept coming back for four straight days. read more
