Never have I ever had Ethiopian food before. Nor would I even know where to begin. I've heard of it,, I've asked my Ethiopian co-workers what should I get if I ever encounter an Ethiopian spot. Two items in the menu came back at my like whoah. "Kitfo" and Doro. So with that being said,, I placed an order of the Kitfo. Just because I'm a sucker for something really exotic. Cooked however the chef preferred it. My friend Myra ordered other things as well. Like the Shira, Hamli and the Asa Kilwa. Shira: Chic pea puree' stew. I don't know what other spices was in that, but it was about the most divine form of garbanzo beans i have ever had in my life. Hamli: The collard greens,, OMG. Just super yummy. Out of this world. I could turn vegetarian with this dish. Ketfo: Ever since I seen Anthony Bourdain and Andrew Zimmern eat ketfo and enjoyed it. I've always wanted to have some as well. All I can say now is that this is my favorite Ethiopian dish. The ones served here is extreme yummylicious. Asa Kilwa: Yes!! The best for last. This fish dish is definitely a must have. Best thing out of everything ever ordered. It'll destroy a small planet,, for real. I've definitely enjoyed everything here. The service was totally awesome and the staff is super friendly. Would totally come back and smash here again. Thank you so much for reading my review. I hope this helps with your decision making experience. Enjoy your awesome yelptastic day!

Delicious!

As our new best friend and the most hospitable bartender in Amsterdam said to me, Yelp is for the…read moreAmericans - which means unfortunately he's not going to hear me brag about how great his bar is. So this one's for you, American traveler! If you're in Amsterdam, do yourself a huge favor and visit Vesper - especially if you're a real fan of real gin, or genever, or jenever. Or whatever! The menu is delicious. I visited Vesper twice during my trip to Amsterdam. Each night, a very different experience. Both were met with a hospitable warm welcome, a cozy atmosphere, and fine craft cocktails where gin is supreme. Food: (drinks!) On my 1st visit, I enjoyed Vesper's Negroni. Smooth. Easy to drink more than one. While the small space was standing room only when we arrived, once a seat cleared up they brought us a small bowl of bar snacks, common at respectable craft bars in Amsterdam. During the second visit, it started off with us saying, "just one drink" and ended up with us shutting the place down with the bartenders over patron shots. It started off gently with their signature, Vesper - sweet and refreshing, and espresso martini - bold. Then I opened my mouth and we were there until until 2 trying whatever bartender Airto recommended, and you're in good hands when the bartender takes over! Service: On both occasions the bartender's made us feel at home with Joop greeting us at the door with a warm welcome as if we met before and we just stepped into his home. He cares about his customers as much as his neighbors in his quaint, quiet neighborhood. On the second night, our drinks were in the safe hands of Airto. He took great care of us, explaining each drink he crafted. Expanding our knowledge and taste of gin with not one, but two variations of jenever, and old style genever. Ambiance: You never know what you're going to get when you visit Vesper-hospitality and fine cocktails aside. Sure it's cute and quaint with a surprise basement in the floor. I implore you to make nice with your bartenders, explore off menu, be ready to stand, stay awhile to soak up the space, good music, and smooth drinks. I cannot wait for the next opportunity to return and enjoy more of Vesper. Thank you for the generous hospitality and warm welcome by the Vesper staff on the Friday & Saturday of November 11, 2023 of this last visit.

The drinks were fantastic - unique and tasty, which I'm always looking for. I especially loved the Fin Fizz. Will definitely come back next time I'm in the city.

The bartenders were busy but nice and took care to explain the creative and extensive menu. The second time I came I made a reservation for two online. You pay for the reservation but that amount is then applied to your check. The drinks are quite good and I understand the need for the reservation. It's not a big space but it's very popular so it's consistently full. This is a great bar so I can see why it's so popular. Don't miss Flying Dutchmen Cocktails in Amsterdam.

He said water, so I assumed it was it was tinted from the lighting. When I took a sip it was a flavored water. I asked if it was gluten-free and he was very rude in his response. Basically was like um yea it just has spices in it. Spices may not be gluten free and could be of concern for a celiac. I asked him if any drinks were gluten free and he said all but 2. I wasn't confident that the drinks would be made separately from the non- gluten drinks so I opted not to get one. My friend got the bees knees and said it was really tasty. The server did come back and switch my water to regular at the end but he should have been upfront with what he gave to prevent any exposure to peoples allergies.
