My husband and I had a great night out with friends! Chef Danny is skilled in his craft and does well relating to all ages. I especially enjoyed making pasta from scratch and getting to learn how to use the pasta attachment on the kitchen aid. I also loved stretching cheese and making mozzarella balls. We ate so much, and there was plenty of wine and drinks too! I recommend this for a date night or a great group activity! Thank you for a lovely evening! read more

Oliver and Edgar led an amazing class. Patient and funny, they guided us through 3 courses of an Italian dinner. 10/10 would recommend!

I debating leaving this review, but I'm the spirit of being transparent and after seeing sooo many 5-star reviews.... I have to share my experience. Ambiance - 10/10 - amazing space that is very open and clean Experience - 3/10 - there were not enough ingredients / set ups for everyone to get to participate in all steps of the cooking. In our particular class, one girl made sure she got to do everything while everyone else only got to do some (there is always that girl)... I've had better cooking class experiences where each pair gets their own station and ingredients so everyone get to have their own experience Quality of ingredients - 2/10 - I wouldn't have known unless the instructor pointed it out, but he made sure to tell us several times that he was using a "lesser" ingredient for this class than he would if he were cooking for himself at home. Firstly, if people are paying $100 for a cooking class... you can afford real espresso not Starbucks coffee for the "tiramisu". But mostly, if you are using lesser ingredients, maybe don't announce it to everyone? Food Taste - 4/10 - the Marsala we didn't get to participate in cooking was flavorless. The only dish that I felt like finishing was the pesto (that he used pistachios in instead of pine nuts, because of cost) and the tiramisu that was sub par, but better than the pasta. The mozzarella we made was sooo dense, tough. Hopefully they get it figured out because cooking classes are a fun experience when executed correctly, but this one was a FLOP. Not including photos because at one point in the class the instructor got sassy with me for wanting to film and take photos. So ‍ read more

I can't express how amazing the class was, my girls ages eight and ten really were into it. The chefs Jenny and Edgar were incredible and very attentive. We were also fortunate to be paired with great company. The experience was so amazing I plan on booking every cooking genre they offer. If you are a parent, then you know how hard it can be to please your children, however this was spot on. We took the Dumpling course. I highly recommend this class to anyone with kids, on a date, a celebration, a private event or even just for yourself. If I could give ten stars I would! read more

We did the dumpling/spring roll making class with Chef Ygael and it was fantastic! You can tell he's truly passionate about cooking and he had so many fun stories to share. The dumplings were so good, and so was the marinade Chef Y made! He also makes sure you know how to cook the food when you go home, and even recommends places to buy the best tools (steamer baskets, rolling sticks, etc.). Overall, it was a really fun time and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a cooking class in NYC! read more

This was such a fun experience to do together with friends. The food was delicious, and we learned so much about various Italian dishes and how to best prepare them. It was a really fun atmosphere and the hands on learning was great. Best of all, we got to sit down around the table and enjoy the various dishes we all made together. It was a great evening! read more

Our group had fun but there were a lot of improvements that could have been made and it felt like there were a lot of issues: we were given sample pizzas by the cooks that weren't actually that good (I've made what I consider to be better pizzas myself at home), the oven setup was awkward (too small so we had to wait awhile to get our pizzas in, and seems like the oven wasn't hot enough given how long they took), they undercooked at least one of the pizzas, and we made focaccia dough but never got to bake it (I assume because their second oven wasn't working). It seemed like they might have been just starting this up in NYC/it was a first time for one of the people, but thought things could have gone a lot better with a few more tweaks. read more

Chef Y and his team were awesome!! Our group had such a fun time making pasta. The food was delicious. 10/10 would come back!!!

I highly recommend Selfup, truly had a great time learning and cooking with certified chefs. I took the Asian style class and learned to make dumplings from scratch both steam and fried. Shumai was also part of the class. One of my favorites is the shrimp summer roles that are famous within Vietnamese cooking. I enjoyed hearing about Ygael, John, Shamir and Danny cooking experience throughout their careers. They had so much to offer in terms of bringing dishes to life with different ingrediants. They would also give tips on cooking such as what oils to use when frying due to higher smoking points. Once again I truly enjoyed my time with the class, food and wine. Gegham the founder of selfup, was also an awesome person to speak with. He traveled the world and talked about his experience with culinary dishes. Make sure you take this class as a team building experience, or with your loved one! My photos don't do justice to how good everything tasted and how fun it was to take this class. read more

Selfup was such a fun experience! I always wanted to take a cooking class so I had to try out the Italian dinner with tiramisu finale course based in FiDi. First off, location was amazing because it's right by the water so you can go walk around and sight see before or after the class. But that's aside the point! Once you enter, the chefs are there to greet you! They give you cool chef hats that you can write your name on to substitute as name tags. What a way to make you feel like a real chef. They offer red and white wine as well as a charcuterie board for guests to munch on throughout the experience. We instantly made friends with other guests because it was so interactive. Our chef, Danny B was amazing and showed us such a great time. He was funny, helpful and such a wonderful teacher! I love that he tried his best to accommodate every person in the class and he really made sure that we all had the chance to participate. We made pasta from scratch and fresh mozzarella. We learned new cooking techniques like how to cut an onion without crying. Chef Danny B also explained to us the reasoning behind everything you do in cooking so we can understand a chef's thought process and why certain things are better to do. At the end, we sat down with our new friends while they served us everything we made together and had a nice family style meal. It was so fun and I would definitely recommend self up to everyone looking to dabble in cooking or just wanted to go for fun! read more
