100/10. This review is long overdue but all I have to say is if you are thinking about it JUST DO IT. These ladies are amazing and put their heart and soul into everything they do for us Mamas. I've read some scary reviews before about doulas and such, but they are far beyond far from those unfortunate experiences. I was planning for a water birth, but I ended up giving birth on my bed because life happens. They made a list for all the supplies I would need for birth and for postpartum including instructions plus they were there every step of the way guiding me and my husband through this new journey. Selena is so down to earth. She really is like a mother to us when we're in her care. This was the best decision we have ever made. I was 19 when I gave birth and now we are expecting another one this July 2022. So of course we had to have our next baby with the best care we've ever had. Even when I had to be transported to the hospital they drove me there (shoutout to Valerie too) to get some stitching up down there and my doula Jasmine was there every step of the way. And while I was at the hospital Selena and Ezzine were holding it down at the house with my newborn giving my husband some one on one time with him. I am so grateful I came across their page on Instagram because I'm an Instaholic if that's even a thing. But I was in the mode of searching for alternatives because it was the pandemic season and I wasn't trying to stay in a hospital by myself for the birth of our first child. I came across a few pages before I landed on Hale Kealaula and when I seen their page I was like "Yup, this is the one. Where's their contact info?" The rest was history. They made me feel powerful and I felt it because they never left my side they just gave me space when I needed it and I really loved having them around. My husband and I love to brag about our home birth because it's something that made us so happy and we just want to share that happiness with everyone. BEST DECISION I COULD HAVE EVER MADE. If you are a mother wanting to feel empowered with your pregnancy and birth, please do yourself a favor and hire Selena and her team. You could be in no greater care than with these incredible women. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have had this experience. During my first pregnancy, I was living in LA and had every intention of giving birth in a hospital. By 35 weeks pregnant, I felt uneasy with the care I was receiving by the OBGYN and wanted to seek out other options. Long story short, I ended up hiring a midwife and doula and gave birth at home 3 weeks later. It was one of the best days of my life. With this second pregnancy, I knew I wanted another home birth from the absolute get-go, so this was my first experience having midwife care from the beginning of my pregnancy up until 6 weeks postpartum. Selena, Jasmine, and Amber have been the most gracious, helpful, knowledgeable, supportive, and loving team I could have ever hoped for. my husband and i had the pleasure working with Selena, Amber and Jasmine. we were both iffy about going to a hospital for check ups and birth. having a home birth can scary as well but these ladies made it so stress free! Selena answered the million questions we had for her. made us feel that this was definitely the way to do our birth! i loved how she let us be hands on with what we asked. my husband caught our baby and handed her right to me. so beautiful and amazing. my body recovered amazingly as well. i've had 2 births in the hospital and this has been the best one yet! we got the HK Package a little pricy but worth it. it included the birth pool and liner. they also set up and break down for you. this was great since it allowed my husband and i to bond with our newborn with a clean atmosphere. i also used Jasmine service for my placenta made into capsules. this is a separate price not included in the package. after the birth, Amber was very attentive to our needs. she responded quick to our text and calls. she never made me feel as if i was a bother. she is very knowledgeable especially when it came to questions on breastfeeding. all my worries were normal lol but it helped when she provided information! I cannot recommend Selena & Jasmine enough! Throughout my entire pregnancy they were caring, attentive, and kind. The individualized care I received was top tier. Appointments were thorough and unhurried. They answered all my questions and were very knowledgeable about helping ease pregnancy symptoms. After losing my daughter at 20weeks gestation in 2010. I was told that every pregnancy after her I would have to have a surgical cerclage and progesterone shots every week until 36/37 weeks gestation. I was told there was no other option other than not getting the cerclage and just monitoring. I followed these these orders in three different states, under the care of three different doctors, for three different pregnancies, over three different years (2012,2015,2019). It never changed, all babies were born in hospitals, at least 2 weeks before my expected due date, I would still have mild complications, and I always had medication. Until recently in 2021 when I met Mama Selena and her team. I knew right away that she would be my midwife, from the first time we spoke. When I got home I was so excited to tell my husband about her. He was just as excited, and on board especially after meeting her. This time around I had dual care between an OB and Mama Selena, but I relied heavy on Selena's expertise and experience. I decided not to get a cerclage, as Mama Selena allowed me to use a natural progesterone cream to rub on my wrist 3-4 times a day. I went past my expected due date by 1 week which has never happened, I had no complications, I had no medications, my water broke on its own which was a first, and our son was Born safely at Home . I can't believe it! I delivered our son in our home, unmedicated, my way, surrounded by support, and love. I've never felt so proud of myself as a woman, wife, and mother. I didn't get the birthing pool up in time, there were no candles burning, or my music playing, I didn't get to hang up my affirmations, the midwives didn't even get a chance to eat any of the snacks that were bought for them, and I didn't get any of the fairy lights up in time. However, I felt loved, powerful, beautiful, healthy, whole, natural, nurtured, and at peace. (I did it at Home, no cerclage/medical stitches to help hold baby in I've had 3, no progesterone shots, vaginal, unmedicated) The entire team has checked in on me, and made sure me and baby were okay. She has been accommodating. Always on time, and always present. She has been calm, and up to speed. Not only her but Jasmine, Ezzine, Amber, and Ms. Valerie. From office visits, to home visits, they have been amazing. I've had my first pediatric appointment with baby, and according to doctor everything looked fantastic. As our home birth journey comes to an end, I want to share a little bit of our story... I found Selena and her birth team (which became my birth team) on Google, found their Yelp, went on their website, read & loved all their reviews, so we went for a consultation. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was so warm and inviting From there our journey started. Monthly visits, then it became every 2 weeks, and just like that my water broke. 4 days later, it was time. (FYI, It didn't work for me in a pool, I couldn't do it, but they all worked with me and I gave birth right on my bed) In all honesty, I looked forward to every visit! They were very informative and detailed! They knew the if's and the but's! During my Check ups, You spend a little bit of time checking up on your health, and the rest is all "talk-story" style, which I loved because it was just so casual and fun, very easy going ladies! Anyways, On the day of birth, they made the entire experience so much more than what I had expected. Communication was GREAT, support was super awesome, no judgement whatsoever and vibes were always warm, loving, and laid back. They were there with me through every contraction, listened, made suggestions, making sure I was hydrated, etc. I am so proud of all of us for making it through that night. Natural remedies, natural inductions, natural birth, natural EVERYTHING! They allowed my body to naturally do what it was suppose to do. And thanks to Selena, her wonderful birth team Ezinne and Jasmine, their awesome support system, encouragement, and knowledge, only 7.5 hours of labor later, my son was born and I did what I thought was almost impossible. What can I say about this woman that will fit the word limit? Selena is a midwife...but she is SO much more than that. She is an angel, a caregiver, a mother, a nurturer. She understands women far beyond what she lets on, and challenges us each in our birth space to go to the stars and bring our babies back, as she protects the space and ensures safety throughout. I first met Selena after a traumatic birth with my first. Unsure if my second could ever be a homebirth. I questioned her up and down with what ifs. She put my insecurities to rest. And believe me, they came up again and again, and she gently helped me set them free. I'll never forget telling her that I didn't think I could have a homebirth. Her instant response was "What makes you think that?" Selena puts a loving and empowering spin on homebirth, while also being realistic and ensuring safety. With my second baby, had I been in the hospital the birth would've been an automatic cesarean with NICU time. Because of Selena's expertise in breech deliveries, she didn't worry at all and continued to answer my questions and talk me through the process. The majority of issues I had with this birth were psychological and mental, and unlike a typical hospital midwife, Selena made extra visits to ensure I was okay. My boy was born not breathing, but Selena was well equipped and quickly jumped in and had him pinked up in no time. He's five next week, and a perfect, sassy bundle of energy who loves to cuddle, just as she predicted. So imagine my horror and fear, when I found out I was pregnant while my family was stationed in Italy. My choices were to either go in town where there was an 80% cesarean rate and you couldn't question the doctors at all, or go to the base, where the care was not at all what I wanted and the doctors were already labeling me as high risk due to slight hypertension. That's what I thought my options were, anyway. I messaged Selena asking if she knew of any traveling midwives, and she volunteered herself. She flew out to Italy, and we had the most BEAUTIFUL and empowering homebirth. Again, she was over constantly. This woman flew halfway across the world for me and my baby. She told me exactly what we needed to ensure a safe environment and gave me the most perfect birth that I was a little to scared to have the previous time, where I was able to confidently catch my own baby. I did hemorrhage a little bit, but she immediately knew what was happening and sprung right into action to the point where it didn't seem like anything even happened. She took extra precaution to ensure my safety, and also assessed my little boy and kept a close watch on him for a few things. It was the best day of my life...She took an experience that was full of fear, and turned it into one of hope, empowerment and joy. We have it in our minds that hospital birth is safer because it's what everyone does. Hospitals abide by protocol. They have a set method of how they treat women and a system for how women are treated in labor. I spent 8+ hours after my water broke trying to push my son's sweet head out of my pelvis that was too small as identified by the Emergancy C-section team immediately upon arriving and determined I would need to deliver via C-section. That's why it's bruised and mishapen, my baby's sweet head. Being told by Selena Green that I didn't want my baby badly enough... it was a devasting experience for both of us. The C-section team at Tripler was sent from heaven! Selena's professional recommendation when my Mom finally put her foot down and said enough she needs to go to the hospital at 6:30/7:00 on a weekday morning in Makakilo, put her in my van. My mother said, "You will call my daughter an ambulance." Sadly, Selena went with me in the ambulance claiming she needed to check my baby's heart beat and EMTs were not equipped to do so. The entire 45 minute ride to Tripler she never checked my baby's heart beat once. Not once! She spent the time bad mouthing Firemen to the EMT... my Father is a retired firefighter. Let me sum this up quickly for anyone considering this woman as their midwife, "I had a home birth with Selena Green and 100% do NOT recommend her. I ended up emergnecy C-section at Tripler eight hours too late and my son's condition was NICU because of it. I literally can't wait to be pregnant again so I can go hang out with these women more! I cannot speak highly enough of Selena and her team! The power and positivity each of them exudes was exactly what I needed during my pregnancy. After every appointment, I came away feeling centered and calm, and LOVED. I WOULDN'T CHOOSE ANY OTHER MIDWIFE I was fortunate to birth both of my daughters with Selena. With both girls, my labors were long and slow progressing and Selena and her apprentices stayed with us through it all. I never once felt like I was on my own whether it was 11am or 2am. With my first, I labored from Saturday night until Monday night. There were times I didn't know what I needed and Selena knew exactly the right thing at exactly the right time. I am a survivor of sexual assault and Selena is always conscious and loving in how she cares for me, my body, and my babies. I never knew my trauma would effect my labor and birth until Selena gently guided me through my first birth. Selena Jasmine and Ezinne were phenomenal from the beginning of our journey to the end, but ESPECIALLY during the birth itself. Selena created a safe space for three amazing Black women to learn as well as a safe space for Black families to birth. Thanks to them, we were able to focus solely on growing and birthing our baby without fear of the maternal health risks associated with giving birth in a hospital. The pandemic restrictions gave us the final push we needed to decide on a home birth, and it was the best decision possible! Selena Greene and Ezinne were the best team any mama could ask for. I decided to have a home birth after attending my goddaughter's home birth where she was the midwife. It was during that time I not only wanted the home birth experience, but I also wanted Selena to be my midwife. She is sweet, nurturing, caring, truthful, and upfront, which is what I sincerely wanted. I had had 3 cesareans prior, and I was trying a VBA3C. She looked at my medical records and doctors' note from the previous births to see if I was a good candidate. She told me upfront the risks involved. Although she had successfully done VBA3C before, she would go to the hospital the moment my health or baby's health was at risk. I trusted her. I saw her twice monthly and then once monthly. At each visit, she reassured me, answered my questions (sometimes the same question), and loved on me. She was patient with me. She even allowed my husband to be on FaceTime since he was deployed. Once in labor, she guided and encouraged me until it was time for her to come to the house. My sister was there (also pregnant, due about 10 ten days after) to help support me through the labor process and keep an eye on the smaller children while my husband and I labored in the room. It was painful! But she was encouraging and patient. Reminded me of my goals and kept my head in the game. Sometime after 5 cm (I can't remember), baby's heart rate started to drop during contractions. As the contractions became longer, it became more dangerous. She told me immediately that a VBAC was no longer in the best interest of the baby and that we needed to go to the hospital for an emergency cesarean. I trusted her, and she let me hear and see the heart rate on her Doppler. She and Ezinne moved quickly, got me into the van and got down to the hospital. She was next to me every step of the way. She did not leave my side. I had never had that type of support. That security kept me calm and regulated my breathing to slow down the contractions. Once we got to the hospital, she helped check me in (husband was driving behind us and was parking), made sure I got setup, and belayed information to the doctors. She stayed with me the ENTIRE TIME! She made sure I had a room with a breast pump and that my recovery and postpartum nurses were taking care of me. She worked with me and my husband to nurse properly (my IV was in a weird place, so I needed assistance). She stayed until my husband and I felt comfortable and were settled in. All of her things were still at my house, so she went back to pack everything up. Upon arrival, she recognized my sister was in labor (I guess it was contagious!). She could have just left, but she stayed and ended up delivering the baby at my house! At this point, she's exhausted, but not once did her level of care dwindle because her tiredness. She stayed with my sister until she was headed to her own house. She provided 6-week postpartum care to my sister and to me. She didn't have to, but she did because she's that awesome. After my cesarean and being discharged from the hospital, she came to the house for my postpartum visits. I wasn't able to keep anything down for a couple days, so my husband and I went to the emergency room. She and Ezinne met me at the emergency room until I was admitted for an abscess found in my abdominal wall. She stayed all those hours just to make sure I was being taken care and that I had a support system. SHE DID NOT HAVE TO, but SHE DID. That's amazing. I believe that support helped me stay sane. I'm not kidding. I thank God for Selena and Ezinne. They are a great team. They are considered family. Not only would I recommend, but I would urge you to have Selena as your midwife during your homebirth experience. I've seen her in action both at a homebirth and at the hospital. She will always go above and beyond. She really loves what she does. She poured her heart into each of us, the mama and the baby (or babies. She's done twins, too!). I love you Selena (and Ezinne!). Selena Green is a medicine woman. Thank you so much for making my baby dreams come true! Ladies, I can't urge you enough to please reconsider hospital births (please don't do it!!!). They will find every excuse possible to give you Pitocin to induce or speed up your labor, making labor extremely painful, & probably more importantly, will rip you open! If you don't want to tear, I so highly recommend doing a natural birth, & Selena is your safest bet... she's been doing this for DECADES, & she has interventions for anything that could possibly go wrong. It is so horrific to me so many women telling of "tearing with 26 stitches," getting induced, getting put on antibiotics, "emergency" C-sections... that is horrific & SO not the way birth should be! So many women give in to the fear of complications (hemorrhage, baby getting stuck), falsely believing that delivering in the hospital will prevent those-- Selena knows what to do in any of those situations. On the contrary going to the hospital puts you directly at risk of interventions, & therefore complications. Once you start messing with the natural process of birth, you cause a cascade of complications. Once your Dr. decides you need to be induced (labor taking to long, past your due date, fluids too low, etc.), they administer Pitocen causing your contractions to be unbearably painful, so you get an epidural. Epidural slows down labor & causes it's own cascade of complications, so whoops! Now what would've / could've been a perfectly normal happy trauma-less birth is now a C-section. Why is this allowed to happen? & more importantly, why put yourself in a situation where you're going to be pressured by the staff to make sure everything "stays w/in certain parameters"? If you birth in the hospital, there's pressure & stress of following this "timeline", instead of letting the birth progress naturally as it should. Why not birth in your own home w/all the creature comforts you will definitely need? w/o the pressure to follow these arbitrary parameters" During the pushing phase, I felt like she was literally "in my head," feeling exactly everything that I was feeling, psychically connected to guide me during the process and how and when to push. That level of intuition & expertise is priceless, & is exactly what you want when you're going through the most powerful, intense moments of your life! You will have a beautiful birth experience w/Selena naturally the way we've been doing for millennia. Selena provided counter pressure while I was pushing to prevent me from tearing. My 2 childbirth goals were: no/minimal tearing, & successful breastfeeding. I know that the first would not have been possible without Selena. During labor, you will want to be as comfortable & relaxed as possible... with Selena that's a guarantee. For anything that may go wrong before, during, or after birth, Selena has a world-class fully stocked apothecary that she brings w/her. I was violently throwing up during labor, & she gave me a homeopathic that immediately stopped it. She took such incredibly good care of me after I gave birth, which trust me you will need after delivery. All of the common post-natal complaints I suffered, she had natural, effective remedies for (baby blues, mastitis/infection, hemorrhoids, pain/cramping, etc). She has kept me out of urgent care twice w/ her calmness in dealing w/whatever I was going thru & offering natural healing remedies (b/c the last thing you want are medications/antibiotics passing thru your breastmilk into your brand new perfectly healthy baby). You will have a magical, beautiful, memorable, love-filled welcoming of your baby into this world if Selena is your midwife. My grandson nearly died under the care of Ms. Green. She allowed her trainee (who kept falling asleep) to handle much of the (attempted) home birth experience while she sat in the corner on her phone and tablet. It became pretty clear early on that this woman didn't know what she was doing. After hours of pushing with meconium in the fluid and baby lodged in a completely inadequate pelvis, EMS had to be called. Selena Green has done an amazing job with midwife care giving, coaching, delivery and aftercare to our daughter Kimberly and her second and third children. She was always available to her and answered any and all questions with patience and clear, expert guidance. This included delivery care onsite for the third child in Italy virtually around the clock when needed. We have nothing but the highest praise for Selena and the wonderful care that was provided to Kim and her children. The delivery of the second child was witnessed in person and was an amazing experience for both mother and child.
