After losing my daughter at 20weeks gestation in 2010. I was told that every pregnancy after her I would have to have a surgical cerclage and progesterone shots every week until 36/37 weeks gestation. I was told there was no other option other than not getting the cerclage and just monitoring. I followed these these orders in three different states, under the care of three different doctors, for three different pregnancies, over three different years (2012,2015,2019). It never changed, all babies were born in hospitals, at least 2 weeks before my expected due date, I would still have mild complications, and I always had medication. Until recently in 2021 when I met Mama Selena and her team. I knew right away that she would be my midwife, from the first time we spoke. When I got home I was so excited to tell my husband about her. He was just as excited, and on board especially after meeting her. This time around I had dual care between an OB and Mama Selena, but I relied heavy on Selena's expertise and experience. I decided not to get a cerclage, as Mama Selena allowed me to use a natural progesterone cream to rub on my wrist 3-4 times a day. I went past my expected due date by 1 week which has never happened, I had no complications, I had no medications, my water broke on its own which was a first, and our son was Born safely at Home . I can't believe it! I delivered our son in our home, unmedicated, my way, surrounded by support, and love. I've never felt so proud of myself as a woman, wife, and mother. I didn't get the birthing pool up in time, there were no candles burning, or my music playing, I didn't get to hang up my affirmations, the midwives didn't even get a chance to eat any of the snacks that were bought for them, and I didn't get any of the fairy lights up in time. However, I felt loved, powerful, beautiful, healthy, whole, natural, nurtured, and at peace. (I did it at Home, no cerclage/medical stitches to help hold baby in I've had 3, no progesterone shots, vaginal, unmedicated) The entire team has checked in on me, and made sure me and baby were okay. She has been accommodating. Always on time, and always present. She has been calm, and up to speed. Not only her but Jasmine, Ezzine, Amber, and Ms. Valerie. From office visits, to home visits, they have been amazing. I've had my first pediatric appointment with baby, and according to doctor everything looked fantastic. My family and I had the best team around! Hands down. This post doesn't do their services any just for how big of a blessing they have truly been!

As our home birth journey comes to an end, I want to share a little bit of our story... I found Selena and her birth team (which became my birth team) on Google, found their Yelp, went on their website, read & loved all their reviews, so we went for a consultation. From the moment we walked in, the vibe was so warm and inviting From there our journey started. Monthly visits, then it became every 2 weeks, and just like that my water broke. 4 days later, it was time. (FYI, It didn't work for me in a pool, I couldn't do it, but they all worked with me and I gave birth right on my bed) In all honesty, I looked forward to every visit! They were very informative and detailed! They knew the if's and the but's! During my Check ups, You spend a little bit of time checking up on your health, and the rest is all "talk-story" style, which I loved because it was just so casual and fun, very easy going ladies! Anyways, On the day of birth, they made the entire experience so much more than what I had expected. Communication was GREAT, support was super awesome, no judgement whatsoever and vibes were always warm, loving, and laid back. They were there with me through every contraction, listened, made suggestions, making sure I was hydrated, etc. I am so proud of all of us for making it through that night. Natural remedies, natural inductions, natural birth, natural EVERYTHING! They allowed my body to naturally do what it was suppose to do. And thanks to Selena, her wonderful birth team Ezinne and Jasmine, their awesome support system, encouragement, and knowledge, only 7.5 hours of labor later, my son was born and I did what I thought was almost impossible. Lol. (To be honest, this was my first birth so I was expecting a whole day of labor). Of course we had to share some laughs and jokes once the night was over! Lol. Beautiful. I loved these ladies from Day 1, and I always will for all the support they have given me and my family during my pregnancy, at birth, and after birth. Our son is healthy, happy, and constantly growing! (*Please excuse our masked photo Maybe I'll come by for a visit and we can take a better one once this pandemic gets cleared)

What can I say about this woman that will fit the word limit? Selena is a midwife...but she is SO much more than that. She is an angel, a caregiver, a mother, a nurturer. She understands women far beyond what she lets on, and challenges us each in our birth space to go to the stars and bring our babies back, as she protects the space and ensures safety throughout. I first met Selena after a traumatic birth with my first. Unsure if my second could ever be a homebirth. I questioned her up and down with what ifs. She put my insecurities to rest. And believe me, they came up again and again, and she gently helped me set them free. I'll never forget telling her that I didn't think I could have a homebirth. Her instant response was "What makes you think that?" Selena puts a loving and empowering spin on homebirth, while also being realistic and ensuring safety. With my second baby, had I been in the hospital the birth would've been an automatic cesarean with NICU time. Because of Selena's expertise in breech deliveries, she didn't worry at all and continued to answer my questions and talk me through the process. The majority of issues I had with this birth were psychological and mental, and unlike a typical hospital midwife, Selena made extra visits to ensure I was okay. My boy was born not breathing, but Selena was well equipped and quickly jumped in and had him pinked up in no time. He's five next week, and a perfect, sassy bundle of energy who loves to cuddle, just as she predicted. So imagine my horror and fear, when I found out I was pregnant while my family was stationed in Italy. My choices were to either go in town where there was an 80% cesarean rate and you couldn't question the doctors at all, or go to the base, where the care was not at all what I wanted and the doctors were already labeling me as high risk due to slight hypertension. That's what I thought my options were, anyway. I messaged Selena asking if she knew of any traveling midwives, and she volunteered herself. She flew out to Italy, and we had the most BEAUTIFUL and empowering homebirth. Again, she was over constantly. This woman flew halfway across the world for me and my baby. She told me exactly what we needed to ensure a safe environment and gave me the most perfect birth that I was a little to scared to have the previous time, where I was able to confidently catch my own baby. I did hemorrhage a little bit, but she immediately knew what was happening and sprung right into action to the point where it didn't seem like anything even happened. She took extra precaution to ensure my safety, and also assessed my little boy and kept a close watch on him for a few things. It was the best day of my life...She took an experience that was full of fear, and turned it into one of hope, empowerment and joy. We have it in our minds that hospital birth is safer because it's what everyone does. Hospitals abide by protocol. They have a set method of how they treat women and a system for how women are treated in labor. Selena meets women (And the whole family) where they are at and takes care for other things - mental state, nutrition, supplements, etc. If you're looking for an out of world, empowering and uplifting experience with someone who also knows how to keep things safe and will love you up from beginning to end, look no further than Selena Green, a permanent part of our family as our trusted midwife, mother and friend for life.

I was mistaken, my mother's review is still there and not removed by Selena Green. I couldn't find it. I apologize, I was incorrect about her removing it. This is an honest review of Selena Green's services written by an RN present at a home birth Selena Green was the attending midwife for... my home birth. I spent 8+ hours after my water broke trying to push my son's sweet head out of my pelvis that was too small as identified by the Emergancy C-section team immediately upon arriving and determined I would need to deliver via C-section. That's why it's bruised and mishapen, my baby's sweet head. Being told by Selena Green that I didn't want my baby badly enough... it was a devasting experience for both of us. The C-section team at Tripler was sent from heaven! Selena's professional recommendation when my Mom finally put her foot down and said enough she needs to go to the hospital at 6:30/7:00 on a weekday morning in Makakilo, put her in my van. My mother said, "You will call my daughter an ambulance." Sadly, Selena went with me in the ambulance claiming she needed to check my baby's heart beat and EMTs were not equipped to do so. The entire 45 minute ride to Tripler she never checked my baby's heart beat once. Not once! She spent the time bad mouthing Firemen to the EMT... my Father is a retired firefighter. Let me sum this up quickly for anyone considering this woman as their midwife, "I had a home birth with Selena Green and 100% do NOT recommend her. I ended up emergnecy C-section at Tripler eight hours too late and my son's condition was NICU because of it. Stay away from her, she made some bad judgement calls that were dangerous for me and my baby.

Selena is an angel from heaven I am grateful for her compassion, knowledge and inspiration She attended the births of 6 of my grandchildren and offered advice to my grand daughter that was born on Hawaii Island. She has been so calm and centered in some of the most challenging births. Selena is a blessing to our family, my daughters and grandchildren My youngest baby was the in distress at birth. Her calmness and attention to detail along with her brilliance saved my grand daughter's life. After the babies birth she called for immediate intervention to provide immediate chiropractic care from Patrick Sullivan, DC to adjust our baby's jawline and skull so that she could nurse. Mahalo Selena for the great work you

Selena and her team are the dream team! They helped me welcome both my babies into this world from the comfort and safety of my home. Both the births were magical! I am so so so appreciative for the love and support given by these amazing women. Selena's presence and energy is gentle yet powerful. Although I was 40 ("geriatric mother") I had no concerns or issues with having both my babies at home! They provide comprehensive care that extends beyond just the pre-natal, labour/delivery and post-partum care.... Selena truly cares about YOU, your emotional well-being and your physical well-being, your marriage and anything else that's going on in your life. I am so very grateful to Selena, Ezinne and Jasmine for taking wonderful care of me and my babies! Thank you from the bottom of ou

Selena is a midwife from heaven! The minute I saw her name on the internet search I knew she was the one. She assisted the birth of our 2 beautiful boys and everything went very smooth. Selena made countless prenatal visits and every time she came we felt reassured and comforted. Her expertise is beyond words. I believe she assisted over 1000 births! She gave us tips for baby and mama care after the birth as well which helped tremendously. Her assistants we knowledgeable and caring and we are still friends with all of them. Her payment plant is very convenient and accomodating and the value of her services is well beyond the price! She also has a marriage license and got us married at Makaha beach 3 months before the birth of our first child!

My husband and I found out we were expecting a few months before moving to Hawaii. With me not being able to accept any medicine for labor due to me having MS. I did my research and found this amazing team! I explained to them my dream birth, the type of support I am looking for throughout and after delivery. As well people who could explain it better to hubby since he's never been with me for the delivery with our other children. These wonderful ladies did that and MORE! At first, my husband held hesitation of a home birth didn't understand exactly what a doula, or midwife is. However, at the end of it all, he was truly amazed and thankful for having these wonderful ladies and their team share this first time of him experiencing birth. I will always highly recommend not only a home birth for any woman but also this magnificent team!

I WOULDN'T CHOOSE ANY OTHER MIDWIFE I was fortunate to birth both of my daughters with Selena. With both girls, my labors were long and slow progressing and Selena and her apprentices stayed with us through it all. I never once felt like I was on my own whether it was 11am or 2am. With my first, I labored from Saturday night until Monday night. There were times I didn't know what I needed and Selena knew exactly the right thing at exactly the right time. I am a survivor of sexual assault and Selena is always conscious and loving in how she cares for me, my body, and my babies. I never knew my trauma would effect my labor and birth until Selena gently guided me through my first birth. She gave me the confidence to know that I am in control of my body and that I am powerful enough to birth my babies. With my second baby, my labor looked very similar to the first. It began slowly on a Saturday morning and I did not birth until Monday. However, this time my baby came out gray and not breathing right away. SELENA'S TEAM DID NOT MISS A BEAT!! They rubbed her up, gave oxygen, and saved my baby within just a few minutes. I have them to thank for having my baby with me today. Not only were they attendant to me during labor and delivery, they came to me for all of our postpartum check ups. They delivered my placenta pills to me within 2 days of giving birth so that baby and I could rest and recover in the comfort of our own home. I have been able to call or text Selena with any and all questions at any hour of the day since my first was born over 6 years ago. Selena truly cares for the families she works with and dedicates her entire life to this work. She is not only passionate but incredibly knowledgeable about every aspect of midwifery, birth work, and caring for children. I would choose her over and over and over again without hesitation. I trust her with my life and my babies lives.

Selena and Ezinnethey truly are a blessing in our lives

Selena Green and Ezinne have been a blessing for us as new parents. We are so grateful for her and Ezinne in birthing our healthy baby girl. She has been with us every step of the way and has helped us become more knowledgeable and aware about natural birth. They are so loving and so caring. They have become family to us. I would say call us and we can vouch for the safety they exemplified as midwives through the care and the knowledge they share and exercise. They have taken every precaution inconsideration for us and you can tell they are professionals. We love her and hope this review helps you.

She is full of wisdom, expertise, and compassion to care for you, your ohana, and your baby during pregnancy, labor, and post-partum. She is amazing, a real gem and gift to midwifery. I am convinced Kathe is fulfilling her calling and I am so thankful for having found her prior to giving birth to my children. Me and my husband first met with Kathe when I was about 13 weeks pregnant with my first baby. At the time we were with Kaiser Permanente and doing our prenatal visits with them. Her level of care, genuine sincerity, comfort, & expertise is top notch. She listens to your concerns, she asks questions to see if there is any supplements you would benefit from as well as any concerns she may have, and offers her advice which is actually helpful. After our first consult (we hadn't even paid or decided to use her yet) she directed me to start on her recommended iron supplement and within two days I was no longer exhausted and falling asleep at 7:30pm. I was amazed! She instructed me to get a number of other supplements as well which also have proven to be very beneficial. From there she could identify the baby's position immediately, taught me how to find my uterus walls and the baby's position, and finds the heartbeat instantly every time (still true, 3 more pregnancies later). Whereas at Kaiser they took my vitals, peed in a cup, continually asked me to get the flu shot even after I told them no, please stop asking me, and it would take at least 10 minutes for them to find a heartbeat. It felt like such a waste of time, impersonal, and unsatisfying, like there was something lacking. And there was! Any hesitancy or fear I had about doing a home birth was washed away as we continued to meet with Kathe and experienced how sound and complete her care was. And she was and has continued to always be available by phone or text for any questions that arise in between visits. We had peace that we were in sure hands. With our subsequent pregnancies, she has included each additional child in the prenatal meetings and it has been such a wonderful experience for all of us. In doing so, she not only prepares you, but your children too just by including them in the process of the visits and bringing to life via their senses the majesty that is having a new baby in utero and out. From the start she became part of our ohana and 6 years later she has been with us for all 4 of our children...each of whom adore her. We've had long-ish labors (15 hours) down to 3 hours, we've had hard labors and easy labors, we've had labors go past their due date, we've had our last labor which had a brief complication that Kathe maneuvered expertly and calmly without putting me in a frantic state, we've had a post birth transfer due to circumstances beyond Kathe's control, we've had lactation and breast feeding questions answered. In every situation she has been reliable, consistent, calming, prepared, full of wisdom and knowledge, and a guide through the journey, leading with love for you, your ohana, and baby. And she does this all the while making sure she takes care of as much as she can so you and yours have the best opportunity to enjoy the bliss of welcoming your new baby into the world. Every birth story is different and some don't go the way you planned, but Kathe is who you want in both situations. She will do everything she can to give you the birth you guys plan on, but she also will be very honest about whether a change of plans or even a transfer is needed and goes above and beyond in those situations to accommodate, help, and serve you in the event of needing to transfer care. Currently we are not in need of her professional service, but we still occasionally go to visit with her. She is so welcoming when we do and the visits are full of us, our kids, and "Aunty Kathe" reading books and playing with some of the timeless toys and trinkets she has been keeping for many years. There is no one else I would trust more for pregnancy, birth and post-partum, plus I genuinely just enjoy her presence and look forward to meeting with her, which makes her the best of the best. Kathe's care is unparalleled, I can't urge you enough to meet with Kathe if you are at all curious or considering a home birth.

I wanted to do a home birth but struggled to find information that would help me on this journey. I had reached out to several people and only heard back from a couple. I had resigned myself to meeting with an OBGYN but going into the clinic it felt cold and I disagreed with several policies they had(since I had 3 previous natural deliveries with out complications). Kathe was one of the few who had responded back so I set up a meeting with her in November or December of 2022.I explained to Kathe that we were in a very strange season of transition, and we weren't even sure if we would be on island for the birth. She listened and then helped to bring so much peace by speaking wisdom, and walked us through to help us decide what we ultimately wanted. She was so flexible and easy going, while also being encouraging and supportive to how we wanted our birth to go. I knew immediately I didn't want to work with anyone else. Her experience in the medical field speaks volumes, but her character, and kind heart is what won me over. Kathe walked with us every step of the way through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She was always communicative and supportive of what we wanted for our family. Helped us every step of the way. When I gave birth I felt prepared. She listened to what I said in labor and allowed me to go through the process as I needed and wanted, while being a guide and present person incase we needed assistance. My 9lb 14oz guy was born healthy and peacefully in my home. She took care of us and made sure I never felt alone. After the events of labor, she tucked us in and cleaned up and allowed me to focus on the new life I had birthed. I was planning to bottle feed, after 3 prior failed attempts at breast feeding. And she asked very good questions that never made me feel forced to change my mind, but gave me the opportunity to try again, with her help, if it was something i wanted. I agreed(I really didn't think it would work but I really wanted the experience of breastfeeding.) when baby was born her words were kind and patient, never judging, but encouraging. And am pleased to say, 7 months later I'm still breastfeeding successfully. Through postpartum she made house visits, and checked in regularly to encourage me, and make sure baby and I were in good health. We feel so incredibly blessed to have met Kathe. I couldn't imagine a more perfect pregnancy and birth experience. She was a breath of fresh air. I would recommend her to anyone looking to do a home birth.

Dana was very personable, down to earth, and she made me feel well taken care of. She was NOT one of those distant doctors that awkwardly make small talk, or are rushing through your visit so they don't take time to explain things. Instead, she felt like a friend that knew how uncomfortable these appointments can be and came right along side you to make you feel as comfortable as possible. She joked, "I think we're tied with dentists for appointments no one really looks forward to" haha. This was my first pap smear, and she was soo understanding. My confidence took a hit knowing I couldn't provide for my little one right away. I knew something had to be done and a referral from my husband's cousin led me to Yuko!!!! Yuko helped my husband's cousin clear up her mastitis and since I came in one week postpartum, turns out I did have plenty milk. Yuko listened patiently and closely to my concerns, then used her magic to carefully massage out the areas needed to get the milk flowing while answering all my questions. I was crazy leaking the next two days since Yuko massaged out all the old milk. The whole time I felt nutured in this safe space. I came out of my inititial two hour appointment so much more knowledgeable about my breastfeeding journey and the next steps for my family. Yuko also helped me see what I needed to feel like for baby to latch properly and comfortably. This latching part and deciding what's in future for baby is still in progress, and I'm so happy to have Yuko on team baby. A big mahalo to Yuko for restoring my confidence and reminding me that I got this! I'd highly reccomend any newborn moms see Yuko. The biggest plus to me was how easy and flexible it is to schedule with Yuko. She is understanding if things come up and can adjust to your schedule as needed.

She took the time to listen to my concerns over the phone and provided some potential solutions. I decided it would be best to see her in person so I scheduled an appointment. She was able to schedule me to come in 2 days after our phone call. Initial consultation was great and she also did a breast massage. During the massage, my milk started coming in and just needed to get the ducts going. She's also knowledgeable when it comes to baby latching. Overall, would recommend her to everyone especially if you think you have clogged ducts and mastitis. Her breast massage does wonders! She can also be reached via text so scheduling is a breeze.

Michele Pangilinan, MD - Exam room. Modern, clean, and the examination bed was pretty comfy.

HMSA started sending me letter after letter reminding to take care of my reproductive health. I half-heartedly asked my friends if they liked their OBGYN or gynecologists and most of them said, "Meh." With no ringing endorsements, I dutifully called my gynecologist and to my surprise, her office number forwarded to a Dr. Lynette Tsai's office. At first, the receptionist offered me an appointment with a midwife, not Dr. Tsai. Confused, I asked if midwives did "routine checkups under the hood." The receptionist signed and said, "Or you could see Dr. P. since Dr. Tsai is booked for months." And I was like, "Is that a midwife or a medical doctor? Is Dr. P. a woman?" The receptionist revealed that Dr. P. was indeed a medical doctor, a woman, and her name was Michele Pangilinan. Two weeks later, I showed up to my appointment. I was nervous as pap smears are not pleasant and who knew what kind of person Dr. P. was. The office is nice and clean (you take your shoes off by the door) and the equipment was modern. The nurse who weighed me and took my blood pressure was very nice. I asked her if Dr. P. was as nice as her and the nurse said, "She's so nice! You'll love her." I was wary since I hadn't been able to find many reviews about her (they were mostly about Dr. Tsai) online. But luckily, Dr. Pangilinan was wonderful! She was friendly, sweet and reassuring. She was professional yet very personable. She made me feel comfortable and answered my many, many questions patiently. As a bonus, Dr. P. didn't lecture me for not seeing an OBGYN for seven years. She told me, "We don't judge, these exams are tough enough!" She's relatively young (we're the same age, late 30s) but she has a lot of experience. Dr. P. is exactly the kind of OBGYN I've wanted: a cheerful, positive, kind, doctor who is competent and makes me feel comfortable. If anyone asks me about my gynocologist, instead of the typical "meh" reply I'd received from my friends, I would instead highly recommend Dr. Pangilinan. She's awesome! As a bonus for those who live in Central Oahu or the Westside, Dr. P. also has offices in Mililani and Kapolei!
