Think Before You Opt-In To Send/Receive Confidential Info Via Klara…read more This review only applies to the Klara messaging web app used by the Fertility Institute of Hawaii / ARMG. As of May 2026, Klara is active on the FIH website (www dot ivfcenterhawaii dot com). If you call the main phone number, you will be directed to receive a text message which is a link to Klara. Or a patient might start using Klara directly on the FIH website. Either way, once a patient opts-in to the Klara service, you basically lose control of any information that goes through Klara. Klara is easy and convenient to use. Most people will not realize they are powerless unless later they want to delete Klara messages that contain confidential information. People may also become aware of the risk of data breach from cyber attack on Klara servers or hacked individual accounts. The Klara security measures for patient accounts are paper thin. The only barrier to accessing messages in a Klara account is a patient's date of birth and phone number to receive a one time code. The Klara platform is a data breach waiting to happen unless the Klara company implements stronger security measures. What can people do to avoid this trap? Make every effort not to use Klara in the first place. Use phone calls, fax, paper mail, and email. If someone already used Klara and wants to delete messages with confidential information, you have to contact FIH/ARMG. There was a former FIH/ARMG manager named Robyn whose email address is listed in numerous replies to Yelp reviews during previous years. To the best of current knowledge, Robyn is not at FIH/ARMG anymore. When contacting FIH/ARMG, ask for the general manager, business manager, office supervisor, or similar title. Then request for FIH/ARMG to permanently delete your Klara messages or better yet delete your Klara account entirely. How about an alternative to Klara messaging? FIH/ARMG also uses another portal through the eclinicalweb domain (mycw30 dot eclinicalweb dot com slash portal13083). Eclinicalweb appears to be a complete electronic medical record system; however, FIH/ARMG may only use it for billing purposes at the time of writing this review. The eclinicalweb portal allows patients to make strong passwords and enable 2-factor authentication for logging in. The eclinicalweb portal has the all the functions you would expect from a modern online medical portal. Based on intuition, the eclinicalweb portal has stronger account security than the Klara web application. How can people encourage FIH/ARMG to change to a more secure platform than Klara? Vote with your words, actions, and money. If FIH/ARMG will only agree to communicate with you via Klara, then decline and take your business somewhere else.

They have great communication via their Klara app as well as IVF coordinators who truly are a godsend. Shout out to Chelsea! HOWEVER, I would not recommend seeing Dr John Frattarelli if you are looking for a personable and informative experience. Working with him, I constantly felt like he had better places to be and never took the time to really explain what each step entailed. He had a slideshow to watch on your own time, but I often felt like I was an inconvenience when I did have questions about IVF. In fact, prior to starting IVF he didn't show up to my appointment in which I insisted to see him to go over questions and details. When he finally showed up he walked in and asked "so what questions do you have?" As if I had inconvenienced his busy day. This is my first time doing IVF, I don't know the questions I should be asking. I had a whole lot of concerns but if he took the time to TALK to his patients prior to starting one of the biggest medical events of my life, then we wouldn't be quite so anxious. It's as if he forgot this is brand new to us since it's an everyday job for him. I walked out in tears. Dr John kept telling me I was a priority, but every visit I would come to he was either at a work conference or seeing another patient who was more 'high risk' than me. Even on the day of my transfer- he wasn't Available. Even on the day they requested I fly back to Oahu to specifically see Dr John, he was off island. It just never made sense. In this field, there are so many emotions and questions that you feel. For me, I wanted a doctor who gave me peace of mind, confidence and compassion. He lacks all of these. It often felt like 'profit over patient' was his priority rather than patient care which was disappointing. Midway through my IVF cycle, I changed doctors to see Dr Goulet who was absolutely amazing. She was attentive, caring and guess what? She always showed up! Thank you to the team for helping us reach our goals of parenthood!

You could be in no greater care than with these incredible women. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have had this experience. During my first pregnancy, I was living in LA and had every intention of giving birth in a hospital. By 35 weeks pregnant, I felt uneasy with the care I was receiving by the OBGYN and wanted to seek out other options. Long story short, I ended up hiring a midwife and doula and gave birth at home 3 weeks later. It was one of the best days of my life. With this second pregnancy, I knew I wanted another home birth from the absolute get-go, so this was my first experience having midwife care from the beginning of my pregnancy up until 6 weeks postpartum. Selena, Jasmine, and Amber have been the most gracious, helpful, knowledgeable, supportive, and loving team I could have ever hoped for. No matter what hour of the day (or night) they have been there to answer any questions and guide me through the entire journey. The level of care I received is unmatched. Truly, I can go on and on about how much I am an advocate for home birth, especially with a team like this one. I had the home birth or my dreams, in large part due to them. I trust no team more than them. We are family. Love them forever.

At first I was hesitant to see a lactation consultant and didn't think I would really need it as my baby latched on well when I first was at the hospital. As a new mom and wanting to breastfeed my child, it was a bit stressful. Initially I contacted Mahinaona Pediatrics but they did not accept my insurance so I reached out to Hawaii Mothers' Milk and so glad I did! The staff were so welcoming and friendly. They made me and my husband feel at ease and answered any questions we had. The 2 lactation consultants I had were amazing and provided such valuable information and resources on breastfeeding/pumping and how to help increase my milk supply. Don't worry about writing anything down because they will email you all the information they talked about! What's also great is they have a very sensitive scale to weigh your baby before you breastfeed and after you breastfeed so you can see how much milk your baby is getting. Through the completion of this class my husband and I felt educated, confident, and had no fears about childbirth. (Even though birth has always been scary in my mind) Because of this class I decided I wanted an unmedicated birth in the comfort of my own home, and that's what we got. I'm so glad we went that route because it was so peaceful and intimate. Pastor Mari, Rebekah, and Dr. Lori Kimata were present at the birth and supported us from the moment we joined the class up until 6 weeks after our son was born. I would love to take the class again to re-absorb the information for our second (in the future). Thank you Birth believers for empowering us as parents and for the community that you've created through this class.

In general, I would not recommend this class to expecting parents who are not already affiliated…read morewith the church group that puts it on. The instructors seem very nice and likeable, and I don't mean to attack them personally, but the class is a major time commitment, and I feel compelled to share some of my concerns. First, the positives. The instructors are charismatic, and the pastor who leads it has a wonderful speaking voice. I honestly think she'd be fun to hang out with. The class includes useful instruction regarding techniques for labor, massage, writing a birth plan, etc. A lot of the stuff you're there for is somewhere in the class, so if you are willing to sit through it, you may get a lot of the information you came for in terms of feeling more prepared for your actual birth. Next, my concerns. (1) This class has a moderate to strong ideological tone and slant, especially re vaccines. You might be thinking, "well what did you expect from a free class from a group called Birth Believers?" It was honestly a bit more concerning than I had expected. A recurring theme of the class is: "your doctor is going to tell you X, but you shouldn't trust them, and in fact, you should probably do Y or even Z." The instructors will present this as them just providing you with information, but the presentation is not value neutral. You are meant to come away feeling suspicious of doctors and hospitals and favoring "natural" methods. For instance, they'll show you a 25-30 year old graphic video of how babies are traumatized during hospital births and contrast it with a video of an uncomplicated natural birth. Our experience with this was that it just contributed to our stress. One could say that this class presents a lot of their information using scare tactics and negativity. The most alarming example of this was their section on whether pregnant mothers should receive the COVID vaccine. This came up twice - in the first and fourth sessions. In the first session, the message was essentially, "there's no way to really know whether it's safe." I thought this was beyond the instructor's expertise, but I didn't really have a problem with the way she presented it. But in the fourth session, the pastor brought up the CDC's most recent guidance (that pregnant women should get the COVID vaccine) and although she faithfully conveyed the CDC's recommendation, she immediately undermined it by (in my opinion) grossly misrepresenting the study that underpinned the guidance. Audience members were reacting with outrage toward the CDC based on her representation of the data. This was infuriating and, frankly, irresponsible. It's one thing to say "we don't know," but this time, she may have been presenting data incorrectly and strongly implying that we should draw certain conclusions about the impact of the vaccine on rates of miscarriage and other events. The conclusions she was pointing to were, in my opinion, not at all supported by the data. I say irresponsible because a pastor has positioned themselves in a role of power and trust relative to students and congregants, and I suspect there are people who may not get vaccinated now because their view on vaccines is downstream of their decision to trust this pastor who has no expertise in that area. My broader point is that the instructors have an ideological agenda that goes beyond birthing and it gets in the way of what the class is supposed to be about. (2) This class is very long and does not use time efficiently. There are lots and lots of product recommendations and anecdotes in each session, and I am convinced that each session could have been 1/3 as long if it were tightened up. One of the teachers, who is very nice, told the birth story for each of her six kids. They were all very different, they were all interesting, but they were not useful to tired, working pregnant people on a Monday night at 8:30pm. Conclusion: If you're a secular person planning for a hospital birth, this class is probably not for you. This is a religious organization with an agenda beyond the nuts and bolts of birthing, and your time may be better spent with a paid class put on by the hospital where you're planning to give birth or some other organization in line with your values. If you're a religious person familiar with the ideology of this church, you may feel very comfortable in this space and this class. I would encourage you to consider alternative viewpoints regarding matters that seem beyond the instructors' expertise.

I was crazy leaking the next two days since Yuko massaged out all the old milk. The whole time I felt nutured in this safe space. I love that you don't have to park far in the parking structure and your car is like 30 feet from the front door. I wish i had better words to describe what an amazing experience it was to have my baby at [Adventist Health] Castle's Vera Zilber Birth Center. First off, though not the most important factor, the facility is *stunning*. With the ko'olau mountains as the backdrop, lush greenery all around, a bed for your labor coach, lots of free parking for friends and family, a jacuzzi tub to labor in, delicious food- what more could you ask for? Oh, right... amazing staff and care. Well, guess what? You get that ten-fold here. At 4am on a rainy day in October 2018 at 39 weeks pregnant, my water broke and hubby and I rushed to the hospital. We'd packed our bags ahead of time and we were already registered there so very little paperwork was needed. They checked us in and ushered us to the triage room where they confirmed that my water broke and measured how dilated I was. They informed my doctor immediately and took us to our huge suite where we could get settled and comfortable. I knew the baby's head was turned a bit weird because i was laboring in my back more and so it took 9 hours of labor and *3 hours* of pushing to get my 8lb baby out! They offered me different laboring options with a bar to get baby to come down more and the wonderful jacuzzi tub to sit in with jets. I requested to do a natural, unmedicated birth and was supported the whole way through. Dr. Chapman is one of *the top* OBGYNs in the country and I was privileged enough to have her be the one to deliver my baby (and sew me up - ouch!). She really is one of the most knowledgeable and respected doctors out there. The staff is absolutely incredible. Hands down the BEST. They took the time to get to know me and offered tailored care for me, my baby and my husband. They were so attentive and respectful. Every time there was a shift change, the nurses updated the chart but READ mine beforehand and obviously spoke to the other nurses to learn my situation and what i needed. I was always greeted with a smile. The day charge nurse would introduce me to the night nurse and they always made sure that i knew who they were, what they were doing, what me and my baby needed, they helped me with my lactation issues, arranged for a lactation consultant to further assist me, made sure my husband and i were comfortable, etc. To put it simply, I wasn't a room number. I was their patient. They really cared for us and gave us the one-on-one attention that we needed. They encouraged baby-friendly tactics to enrich our bond as a family, as new parents. They gave and taught us tools that were invaluable for when we brought our baby home. I can't express enough how wonderful everyone was. We were so blessed to have our baby here and be cared for by each and every staff member. A very special thank you to the following staff members and nurses who just really shined (whose names I can remember): Melody, Candace, Ashley, Grace, Malia, Carolyn, Tamy, Leah and Regina. For a caring and VIP birth experience, choose Vera Zilber. ***Note: Each suite has a jacuzzi tub, bed for your labor coach and a fridge for your snacks and drinks. If you like, you can bring your own pillows for extra comfort. They do not provide meals for your labor coach/significant other but there is an amazing cafeteria in the hospital called the bistro. Honestly, hubby and I just shared the food they gave me because it was so much anyway and we had our snacks and a baby to keep us busy .

From the first phone call with Lorene, meeting with Lorene, and consult with Dr. Chun, we knew Dr. Chun and IVF Hawaii would be the one that we would choose to guide us through our IVF journey. We had gone through one unsuccessful cycle at IVF Hawaii that resulted in a miscarriage. After that try, we were taken aback to hear two simple words from both Dr. Chun and Lorene, "I'm Sorry". Two simple words that meant so much to us, knowing they tried everything, and I did get pregnant, but miscarried. After that try, Dr. Chun tested the embryo and found out it was due to an anomaly. With that proactive approach, he made changes to the next cycle. We ended up undergoing another few cycles with another miscarriage and finally a successful pregnancy. Throughout the whole time, Dr. Chun stayed so positive and invested in our journey, even during times when we ourselves were less than positive given the obstacles and losses we faced and eventually overcame. We recently went back to IVF Hawaii and have now welcomed another baby. It is all thanks to him that our dream of having a family has come true. Infertility is such a rough journey and we really needed the guidance of a clinic that treats each patient as an individual and not as a number with a protocol tailored to our unique circumstances. From the expert guidance and explanation of Dr. Chun, Lorene explaining and instructing us every step of the way, Cyndi lending her knowledge with answers to technical insurance questions, and the warmth and friendliness of the staff, Gen, Kristy, and Marcy, IVF Hawaii became our family during our challenging journey. We are very happy with the care, compassion, and individual approach we received and highly recommend IVF Hawaii.

I must also add that we live very close to Kapiolani Medical Center which played a part in our decision as it was possible that we would need to go there for the birth. And in our case we did! We chose Sacred Healing Arts after doing research and meeting with others in the field. Dr. Lori Kimata has a very good reputation in natural childbirth and is local born and raised. After meeting her and her doula, Mieko, we hired them for our natural childbirth. The package cost is $3,500 and includes 3-4 pre-birth check-ups at their office, the birth itself, a birthing tub, and postpartum visits over multiple weeks. NOTE: HMSA PPO plans do cover home birth but Dr. Lori is not a HMSA provider so everything is out-of-pocket. I went into labor on Sunday night at 10:00PM and Dr. Lori and Mieko were on the N. Shore at their other location so they got to our house in Kaimuki in less than an hour. My labor was 12 hours long and at 10:00AM on Monday morning Dr. Lori advised that we should go to Kapiolani Medical Center as our baby was in the birth canal and we didn't want to take any chances. This was the right decision. Dr. Lori and Mieko accompanied us to Kapiolani and were with us in the birthing room. My OBGYN came and delivered our baby naturally (no cesarian or epidural) with Dr. Lori bedside. My husband was upset to be having an interventionist birth in a hospital (it's as different as possible from a home birth) and Dr. Lori and Mieko realized this and made sure we minimized the unnecessary tests and procedures the hospitalist doctors were pushing. They also made sure he held our baby skin-to-skin and informed us each step of the way what our options were for all the interventions the doctors were pushing on us. In short, they helped us make the best of the situation we were in. Keep in mind that there is a strong divide in the medical community between 'science based' interventionist medicine and naturopathic medicine. TIP: Be prepared to go to the hospital if your home birth is just not happening. Pre-register at Kapiolani so you can go right to the birthing room. And lastly, be sure to read up on the various interventions that the doctors will push on you as many are not necessary, such as antibiotics in your baby's eyes which is a public health measure in case the mother has a Chlamydia or gonorrhea STDs. Hep B is another one (is your newborn sexually active?! Do this vac. later). One last note, if you plan on keeping your placenta to be buried as many of us in Hawaii do you MUST tell the nurses that you plan to CONSUME the placenta even if you plan on burying it otherwise they will soak it in Formaldehyde to preserve it which means you can't handle it without using gloves when you plan to bury it. The lame excuse the hospital uses for this is that they keep a small sample and they want it preserved. So why not just preserve their sample in Formaldehyde and not the rest of the placenta? The Hospital Customer Service rep we spoke to had no answer for this. That's corporate medicine. In summary, Dr. Lori and Sacred Healing Arts are a unique, loving, experienced, and necessary part of your natural childbirth and if we're blessed with another child we want them by our side.
