We are very proud of our home visiting domiciliary service which provides eye care for patients across Kent. Dr John Gurney and Claire Forrester started their business learning that trust and good sound honest advice is key to excellent service. Eleven years ago we established a community practice with trust and honesty as our main objective. We are constantly striving to improve the high standard of clinical care and advice we are able to provide to all our patients. Dr John Gurney as the senior clinical specialist optometrist leads by example by keeping up to date with all the latest ophthalmology and optometric developments in terms of education and equipment. This allows us to be in the privileged position of being one of only two specialist optometry practices in the whole of Kent. We have very close links with local GPs and Hospital consultant ophthalmologists, and provide an emergency acute ophthalmology service(APCOS) looking after 62 GP surgeries and their patients in the local area. Due to Johns wealth of clinical expertise he is also Clinical Advisor to the General Optical Council the regulatory body for Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians in the UK. All our expert, friendly and helpful staff at Kent Eye Care are dedicated to providing the highest possible quality eye care and service for all the family.

Christmas always brings a large selection of the 3 for 2 gift deals, making things a lot more reasonable. Also has an opticians (very friendly) and a photo processing area where not only is it one of the few places left that does hourly processing in town, it also has a number of digital photo booths where you can print your own. I would say though, that the quality of photos is not brilliant. Helpful staff that will always do their best to reduce queuing times and, in a store like this where it is easy to get lost trying to find something, they will always assist in the search! Although it can be more expensive than, say Superdrugs, there are often fantastic deals and offers, and the advantage card system is brilliant.

My biggest gripe with the shop is that there are NEVER enough staff on the tills, particularly on a Saturday when Eastbourne town centre is heaving. Today they had three people serving in the middle of the afternoon and a long snaking queue that went considerably beyond the queueing area. They have recently installed 'self checkouts' at the Terminus Road end of the store, presumably so they can employ even fewer staff members! Actually it makes the situation worse because many people do not seem able to use the checkout machines properly and need assistance, which takes longer than it would to be served by a real life person! Having moaned about all of that, as a brand I think Boots is great. Their parenting club in particular is very helpful for parents and the Advantage Card system is very generous compared to other loyalty card schemes. I just wish this branch would employ a few more staff.
