After a serious break of my left wrist I chose Select Physical Therapy located at Shawnee Rd in Alexandria. My therapists, Sydney Chervenic and Soraya Martinez were amazing. Both are specialists in hand and wrist injuries and with their help, professionalism, knowledge and patience helped me regain use of my wrist. Sydney and Soraya took the time to explain my injury to me and explain what specific exercises were necessary and why. I will be forever grateful to them. I cannot recommend them enough. read more

The staff is extremely friendly and the working environment is clean. The front desk and staff was always warm and welcoming when I arrived for therapy. Now to the actual therapy... This review comes in two parts. The first part is for when I was rehabbing my severely sprained ankle. I was rehabbing for over 3 months and saw little to no improvement in my ankle. The therapist had me doing the SAME exercises for 3 months! Not only was it boring, but I did not regain strength in my ankle. Make sure your therapist is mixing up exercising and progressing you towards your fitness goals. I did not progress with my ankle. For my ankle recovery, 1 star :-( The second part of the review is for ACL reconstruction surgery rehab. I had a different therapist and we slowly progressed through the steps of recovery. The beginning is when I made up the most ground to recovery, when getting back my range of motion. However my insurance kicked me off before rehab was complete. That being said, we still moved extremely slow to get to the strengthening exercises. Since I was not able to complete rehab for my ACL with them, I would give this part 3 stars. The physical therapist there (Kevin) did a fantastic job helping my daughter develop a progressive plan following her knee dislocation. We ended up not even needing all of the appointments on the PT order and she was able to get back to playing soccer sooner than expected. They also worked to develop an at-home exercise plan and the provided printouts, but also could be viewed online. Their front staff is very friendly as well and they have good COVID protocols in place. Finally, this has been by far the easiest place to get an appointment. When my daughter dislocated her knee, most places were already booked for 3-4 weeks out. It only took me a little over a week to get into here and then was able to schedule out all my daughter's appointments over a 4-week time period. read more

Absolutely the best. After trying several other physical therapists for lower back problems, Dr. Victor Ibrahim suggested that I see Angela Gordon at Patriot Sports Medicine. She is in a league by herself and has helped stabilize my back and get rid of pain quickly. It's no wonder that the Washington Nationals use her as their physical therapist. Furthermore, there is a wonderfully genial atmosphere in the office, all generated by Angela's sense of humor. Thank God I finally found this place and Dr. Gordon. read more

I wish I could review the physical therapists at this location but their front desk is so unprofessional I will never get the opportunity. I called to set up a series of therapy appointments in advance of knee replacement surgery. I was told that I could only schedule the first one until they had verified my insurance. I asked if they would call me back after that was done to set up the rest of the appointments and they said yes. Two weeks later, after the surgery and some recovery with home physical therapy, I still had not heard from them. I called to follow up and the same person, still acting as though it was a great imposition to ask her to do anything, told me that my insurance still had not been verified. When I asked why not, after two weeks, she repeated that my insurance had not yet been verified. So, needless to say, I will not be getting any physical therapy at this location. read more

I hesitate to write this review because this place is outstanding. And I mean, OUTSTANDING. When this secret gets out it will be impossible to get an appointment. My inconvenience is definitely your gain. First off, I'll begin by saying I have a very complicated foot and ankle problem. This problem began more than a decade ago. Over the last year, I have seen improvement that I didn't think would ever be possible. How did this happen? I have a great physical therapist. Most physical therapy clinics spend 20-30 minutes with you. They take notes on your injury, watch you do painful activities, show you exercises and then watch you do exercises and send you home with a packet. You return a few more times to show you can do your exercises and then you are discharged. What makes this clinic different from the dozens of clinics I've been to is the following: 1. Hands-on time. The therapists actually put their hands on you. They do deep tissue massage, they do manipulations, and one practitioner even started dry needle therapy (think acupuncture but better - they activate trigger points with needles to have those painful areas release.) You can skip the chiropractor -physical therapists have been trained to do these kinds of manipulations and it's covered in your visit! 2. Knowledgeable staff who are up to date. You'd think this was a given for all clinics, but the staff here keep up to date on research, conduct their own research, and are willing to look into new therapies and research things they aren't familiar with. 3. Breadth of Experience. Not only are they terrific at handling long term chronic conditions, they are great with acute injuries as well. Have MS? Weird neurological problems? Lingering side effects from a stroke? They've got this covered. Don't fall into that category? Just had surgery? Sports injury? Have weird knee pain when you run more than 3 miles? They've got this covered as well. 4. Do it yourself. They also teach you exercises you should do at home between appointments. The gym doesn't have a ton of exotic equipment which surprised me at first. But when I thought about it, I realized it's a good thing because the exercises you will have to do at home won't require expensive weird equipment. Anything you may need, you will most likely have or they can provide some items for a nominal charge (like $6 for Thera-Bands). 5. Nice "extras". While this is clearly a health care experience, they also offer some nice things like heat or ice on your injured area. They have a water cooler as well. These are small things, but it's nice. 6. They take all kinds of insurance. Military? Yup, they take Tri-Care. And of course just about every other company. They spend a lot of time with each patient, but it bills out as one visit. I have been so impressed with this clinic. I can't speak to other sites, but this is the clinic where injured baseball players come to rehab. The Washington Nationals trust the staff here - and if you have a knee or shoulder injury, this is definitely the place to come since they treat people whose livelihoods depend on functioning body parts in a major way. I've been to 3 physical therapists in my life. First, ~30 visits w/ Kaiser Permanente 15 years ago. Second, 1 visit w/ Solutions Physical Therapy 1 year ago (http://goo.gl/r1Te8m). And most recently, ~15 visits w/ these guys. The first 2 were good experiences, but Patriot takes the cake by far. 1) Scheduling and billing were a cinch. Tiana, one of the office managers, is friendly, patient, and helpful. 2) The facility is large with lots of space, tables, and equipment. They're not short of patients, but they're also not inundated with them; so it won't feel crowded (like at Solutions). 3) Kaila, my PT, is exceptional. She's knowledgeable, thorough, articulate, fun, and sincere. And she's been effective in treating my herniated disc! She had the amazing insight that my back pain may be originating from my hips misalignment/immobility. It didn't make sense to me; but indeed, it proved to be the case. The hip exercises and soft tissue work that she's done have alleviated a lot of my sciatica. Other awesome things -- she agreed to review my workout routine off-hours(!) and she coordinated a separate free injury screening for my right shoulder when I noted my concern about its clicking/popping. I saw a chiropractor ~15 times and an orthopedist once, but it's Kaila's work that's helped my back the most. I can't comment on the other therapists, but I imagine their service is of the same caliber. Definitely recommend these guys. read more

Great staff and clean environment! I find them to be punctual and on top of their jobs. I had arthroscopic in both knees and microfracture in the left knee to stimulate new cartridge growth. Being stiff and sore around the knees, I was so glad to start physical therapy. The therapist helped alleviate the pain and got my muscle moving again. No complaints so far! read more

I am so lucky to work in the same office building as this practice. it's super easy and convenient for me. I totally agree with the previous review, staff is super high quality. I have seen several of the therapists and recommend them all. They are kind, and really know what they are doing. I have been going a few months now, progress is slow for me but I feel soooo much better. They have plenty of athletes but plenty of non-athletes as well. read more

Having grown up injuring myself playing sports and having muscles go awry, I have been to my share of PT and Patriot Sports Medicine has no equal. I finished treatment for plantar fasciitis (in both feet) today and over the months, because I had very troublesome feet, I was very impressed with how I was treated - not only for the symptoms, but more importantly the underlying structural problems. They want to make sure that they don't have to see me on the therapy table again. The therapists are highly knowledgeable, listen to and work on any new problems that arise during treatment (even if it might seem like a sidetrack), and they have great therapy table manners. Kwang and Angela practice dry needling as a therapeutic tool to release muscles and it really helps- after the initial pain of a spasming muscle, of course. The other therapists- Marsha, Kaila, and Stephanie are fantastic as well. The support staff for the group is also extremely helpful and great to get along with. This is one therapy place where you can't go wrong, no matter who your therapist is (Kwang was mine). I can't gush about these guys enough, nor thank them for all their help with getting me back on my feet and out the door! read more

I came here for pt on and off for the better part of two years. Lower back problem from carrying my kids around once they got to big and a torn ankle ligament from slipping in the snow/ice. I saw multiple therapists here and they were all wonderful. They were all very caring and never rushed me. I was always seen on time. Very pleasant people and very nice to talk to. The conversations helped break up the routine of whatever excercise I was doing. I highly recommend this group of PT's. read more

Went to Patriot Sportsmedicine for two years for multiple reasons after being hit by a car riding my bicycle. The team is outstanding in every way and I would not go to any other physical therapy provider! I have been to others and this is the gold standard. I drove an hour and a half each way just to go there, that is how good they are! Angela Gordon is five stars and the best PT person ever! This place is expensive! Watch out each visit can easily cost $400-$500. If you have to go several times then get ready to get a surprise in the mail. They are DISHONEST! They pad their bills and hide behind obscure explanations. If you are loaded, then no problem... If not beware! read more

Ughhh...had one visit with a very competent PT who took quite a bit of time making her diagnosis. HOWEVER, dealing with the front desk was just intolerable. First I was sent on a needless quest for a Dr's "prescription" for service claimed to be 1) required for my primary insurance and then 2) as a legal requirement in VA. Well, after a 2 day quest culminating in me making a 2nd appt with my primary care Dr (I am a military retiree so thank you taxpayer) what in fact was needed was simply the 2 line Dr diagnosis I could've had pulled from my record if that was actually what was correctly requested. Then I show up for an appt for which I was told did not in fact exist. I do not sit in traffic on I395 for 30mins willfully for phantom appts. Again, I was the one so obviously in error - according to the same person who sent me on the aforementioned needless quest...Needless to say I will not be returning read more
