Dr. Robertson is an empathetic, compassionate, talented equine veterinarian who blew my mind when he was able to float my 26 year-old horse's teeth without a sedative and my horse licked him right after - clearly happy with the results as well. :)
I also recently witnessed Dr. Robertson at my ranch put down a horse whose time had come. He did it with such kindness and understanding for both the horse and the horse's owner. It's a terrible thing to have to euthanize a beloved horse so having a truly wonderful vet who GETS IT is a real blessing.
He's a very good communicator - answers questions in simple ways to explain even complicated matters, which I really appreciate as a newer horse owner. I'm still learning and I always appreciate someone who is patient and explains things thoroughly.
Again as a new horse owner I always feel a little "out of it" -- I've had to learn even the simplest things from the beginning and asked a ton of pretty elementary questions to everyone around me (including my vet) like:
What is a "flake" of hay?
Why is it called "floating" the teeth?
What's a farrier?
Why do horses need shoes? (Turns out this is not a simple question or answer!)
To shod or not to shod? (Again, no simple answers but if you're wondering - my baby is barefoot)
Wait, are grains bad or good?
Should I buy that $1700 hay steamer? (still surveying everyone on this one)
How do I know if my horse is happy? (yep, ask this all the time - LOL!)
Do you think he loves me? (yes, that was a real question and a year in I still ask it often - LOL!)
Flax Seed? Chia Seed? Or both? (Both!)
How much sugar is too much sugar? (Oy)
What can make them colic? (What can't?)
How the heck do horses survive in the wild??? (Such complicated creatures! :)
Everyone in the horse community that I've come into contact with has an answer, an opinion, a kind word and is super patient, which brings me back around to Dr. Robertson:
This review is simply to say that Dr. Robertson keeps it simple, is a great communicator, has a wonderful bedside manner for both horse and horse owner (parent), and is just a really nice human. What more could I ask for for my Gelding (a castrated horse, in case you're not a horse person and inexplicably reading my review of an equine vet).
