Lisa Grissom is a wonderful lady who helped me to get the statement I need in a timely manner. She is polite and efficient. However, the first lady who answered my phone ( I did not get her name unfortunately) was nasty. When I told her what I need, she kept saying we don't have the community you mentioned which was not true. I insisted that I paid my monthly due and it should be there, she finally transferred me to someone else who helped me. read more

As a new homeowner, my initial experience with Select Community Services was extremely disappointing. I contacted SCS with routine questions about my Association's responsibilities, how assessment funds are allocated, homeowner access to records, governing documents, financial information, and meeting notices. These were not unreasonable questions. They were basic questions any new homeowner might ask when trying to understand an HOA or cluster association. While SCS eventually provided some information, the tone of the responses was defensive and dismissive. Instead of offering clear guidance, the responses repeatedly pointed back to materials I had already received, such as the welcome packet, resale package, TownSq, and community website. The issue was not whether some information existed somewhere; the issue was the lack of professional, courteous orientation from the management company. The welcome materials I received were heavily focused on payments, fees, account setup, late fees, and payment methods, but they provided very little clear explanation about the Association's responsibilities, homeowner resources, records access, or the benefits/services covered by assessments. Asking for clarification should not be treated as a burden. A management company should make homeowners feel informed and supported, not dismissed. We've had an utterly disappointing experience with this company. They have consistently ignored our emails despite emailing with multiple issues. They couldn't care less about community concerns such as ongoing issues with sand removal from this past winter, landscaping issues that have been going on for a year, and exterior concerns including a safety and legal hazard. There's been zero effort to address them. It's clear this company has no regard for the members they are supposed to serve. Unresponsive, detached, and indifferent. Update: Almost 6 months have passed and a new property manager has taken over, Sarah Shah. Still no updates, and my family is still living with a large safety hazard in our home. read more

We had to fire them. Our assigned property management was incompetent. Furthermore, the maintenance arm treated us with the utmost contempt. We are a small building and weren't important to SCS, so they probably didn't give us their best manager. Our two main issues with her was she didn't know the building she was managing and she was unable to keep the details straight. The maintenance arm was very odd. Although they were knowledgeable about building systems and maintenance they did't even try to disguise their blatant contempt for us. We are their client and that is no way to treat a client. This is the worst management company. Our homes have been without power for two days now in 90 degree heat and the company has done nothing to resolve the issue. They've told us we'll have to wait until Monday to have a better timeline of when it will be fixed. No one from the company has come out to assess the situation or provide alternative options for the impacted homeowners. Very unprofessional company. Englewood Mews here in Centreville VA has contracted CMC this year to take over property management in our community. Being an original homeowner here since 1993 I have seen property managers come and go but this one is by far the absolute worst yet. Not only do I concur with other posters that their policy of charging the homeowner a $3 fee just to pay the dues directly from the bank is ludicrous. Upon questioning this policy the "manager' , Bryant was completely defensive about this and offered no resolution other than smugly stating the various options of payment available. The appearance of our once beautiful community has gone to the dogs as these people do not care about customer concerns whatsoever. The trees around here have not been serviced in several years, so now there are dead trees, dead limbs and overgrown foliage everywhere. The children's playground's have not been cleaned or refurbished for years and are on the verge of dilapidation. Our community pool was rendered unusable during 2020 because of covid restrictions and this year it was closed at least half of the time due to what they claimed was a "lifeguard shortage", yet we still paid the same dues. Unattended personal properties have gone unnoticed and many residents (mostly renters of course) have let the appearance of their yards and such go completely. I have yet to see ANYONE from this company do any inspections. Contacting these people by phone is futile as the receptionist will only transfer you to someone's voice mail, and then the call is NEVER returned. Emails may get answered within a few weeks if lucky, but usually just offering excuse with no resolve. Unfortunately the HOA board members are complacent and quite frankly, the ONLY reason that most of them are on the board is because no one else wants the job, and who can blame them? I recently noticed my property value actually go down this year when everywhere else around here has gone up. After nearly 30 years of ownership I now am inclined to sell my house and get out of here before it becomes any worse. I warn ANY HOA boards to steer far from this company as they only want your contract to add to the hundreds of thousands of properties they mismanage nationwide, and take your money, OUR money. read more

I live in a new housing community at Huntington Crossing. We have around 60 home units with only around 22 parking spots. People from the apartment complex and those who use the metro park in our parking spots. I have emailed Curtis Amico at SCS asking about our parking permits. Initially he said "he will follow up with the board and let me know." As usual Curtis never follows up on anything. When I emailed him back to follow up, he stated "the board has decided not to issue permits for Huntington Crossing." Why should we as homeowners have to fight with residents who live at an apartment (which have their own parking garage) and use our parking? this HOA company is beyond horrible. read more

Ever work with service firms who give the impression that they are in their line of business/job/career only for the money? For whom customer service is truly an alien concept? Who treat customers with such disrespect that it's a mystery to everyone how they manage to remain in business at all? If I had to characterize SCS's management philosophy, I would say it's a combination of "cash is king" and "the client is the enemy", along with a "punch in, punch out" culture. They don't feel they need to recognize their clients concerns or be accountable to them, or explain anything really. Once they get their money, they just don't want to hear from you. The turnover rates for property managers here is unusually high--for at least one property that I know about (that's not in a bad neighborhood, by the way), there has been a different manager every year. When you ask why this is the case, they never give you a straight answer. It seems like these people either don't get paid very well, or are fearful of telling you the truth. Most of the reps for this company which now calls itself SCS (and which changes its name/ownership more often than I change my socks) are consistently non-responsive, and apparently don't feel the need to apologize for it. Their reps are rude, don't listen and constantly interrupt residents/clients who call to voice legitimate concerns--when they even bother to answer or return your calls or give their clients the "privilege" of interacting with them (yes, your clients, the ones who pay for your services, and indirectly your salary). (HELLO...? You're a "service" business, that means what you offer in exchange for money is..."service"--or at least that's what it's supposed to be. It's in your name, for God's sake! I've never seen such (poor) attitude from completely unremarkable people who work for such a mediocre company. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. The absolute WORST PEOPLE. RUDE. Don't return emails or phone calls in a timely manner. We had a water pipe accident in my condo building and they were unwilling to report to the insurance company. The accident that occurred in August of 2014 was not closed until December. Even the insurance agents stated management was making the situation 10 times harder than it should've been. They owed me a reimbursement that they kept withholding and as of a few weeks ago they still owe my neighbor's reimbursement of a couple thousand dollars. I would rather be homeless than live in a community run by this company. The Fire Sprinkler Burst in my main bedroom closet. Instead of contacting me and letting me know they taped a note to my front door! It took a few days for me to see it since I normally go out the back door. After they knocked down the closet wall and repaired the burst pipe, they refused or failed, (not sure which) to schedule someone to fix the water damage. I had giant water spots and paint falling from the living room ceiling, which sits under my main bedroom. Next Mold started to set into the parts were there was water damage, and still no repairs. This went on for 60 days!!! Finally, I had enough and paid for the repairs out of my own pocket the first week of May. I had to use two vacation days to find and interview contractors before getting the repairs done. I have asked for reimbursement, but I've not seen any indication that I will get my money back and have been advised to sue them for the money plus damages. The worst part, you never hear from them unless they want money, You'll have better luck getting a response from Jimmy Hoffa than anyone at this organization. read more

I cannot even begin to explain how poorly this HOA treats its residents. They constantly send letters coming up with charges and demands for your property. Nobody responds to your emails and calls. Their business model seems to be the use of extortion to create cash inflow. I had to pay $400 for a resale package. If you don't know what that is, its a stack of papers that talk about the association for new homeowners. $400! They sent me about 10 threatening letters claiming that I had built a retaining wall in my backyard when in fact nothing was there. I will be so relieved when I do not have to deal with this company anymore. read more

SCS is a sister company of Community Management Corporation (CMC), and when you call one, it is common to be told to hold at some point to speak with staff from the other company. Therefore, this review is for both SCS and CMC, the joint entity that manages the Fair Lakes neighborhood across from the Wal-Mart near the Stringfellow Road parking lot. Consider the location I just described: the neighborhood is within walking distance of an off-ramp of I-66, an artery to Washington, D.C. With less than 1 inch of snow accumulation at 11:30 am on 1/7/17, the roads in that neighborhood were covered in white. In contrast, the neighborhood where I live in Reston, the roads are black and pre-salted from treatment from the previous night. SCS and CMC provide environments that are dangerous and life-threatening in their neglect of basic street maintenance during routine weather conditions in the winter. I agree with other reviewers (and check the non-recommended reviews, too). This company needs a serious revamp in actual customer service. read more

I could not agree with the above review more. I am a property owner of a unit in a community that SCS "manages". In the 6 years I have owned the unit there have been just as many property managers (if not more--who's counting?). I have had several issues over the years that have required SCS' intervention. Each time I am met with contention, laziness and rampant ineptness. It seems to escape them that *they* are employed by me. Need a response to an email? Don't count on it. Need guidance for Association bylaws? Not likely to happen. Need help locating insurance papers in an emergency? Here, call this number and figure it out yourself. The only thing you can count on is your HOA dues debiting right on time---they seem to have taking your money down pat. SCS- Where mediocrity thrives. read more

Very bad customer service. I am a new resident in Hidden Creek community and contacted CMC management to obtained a pool/gym pass. The manager Karen Bradley emailed me asking that I be in the community club house office at Thursday, June 14. I was there at 9 am and waited for 20 min and she (and no one) did not show up. the office was locked. When I called the management, I was told that she's in "urgent business" but would be "very early on Friday morning". I went again on Friday morning, once again 15 min after 9 am, no one showed up and two customers were waiting outside the club house. I called again, this time, one one even answered and I left massage. I called again at 9: 46 am, still no answer. Someone called me back after 10 am, she simply told me that I should come at 4pm---as if I did not have a job---I have lost two hour of my work for going late to the work. Although the person on the phone finally agreed to come to office at Saturday at 10 am to process my pass, such completely lack of work ethics of the management is extraordinary. BBB should be notified for such bad behavior. The company should 1. Fire the manager who does not show up for work or habitually shows up late for work; 2. Have office hour at weekend; 3. Set up a customer service phone line and have people there to deal with problem; 4. Retrain their staffs for basic work ethics. read more

This company has threatened breaking into our homes during an inspection (Yes, I am a homeowner) but they refuse to respond to your concerns about their practices. CMC recently took over the management of my building. Their very first act was to send out incorrect assessment coupon books to residents, showing a 15% monthly increase rather than the approved 1.5% increase. In addition, they seem totally unfamiliar with District of Columbia tax issues for coops as well as other DC regs. Seniors due their senior tax refund almost missed out. Tax forms had to be hand -carried to DC office on the day of the deadline for submission. The resident management staff (working from offices in my building) are seemingly responsive to requests....but then nothing happens and there is no feedback. We had a far superior performance from our previous management company. and I wish devoutly we had that company back. read more

I've had the pleasure of working with CMC for many years. They provide a valuable service to our clients at some of the hardest times in their lives. No matter what time of the day or night that we call them, they respond quickly and treat each customer as if they are the only customer. The management company refuses to remove a charge for plumbing placed on my account that belongs to the unit below mine. In addition, they gave me a covenant violation for a beeping smoke alarm that was not beeping. I didn't hear it and my upstairs neighbor didn't hear it. In addition, this company will comply with any untrue directives that they are given by the Condo Board. Both the Board and Select Community Services know I did not order this plumber and this violation is untrue. A little discrimination? Against women? Against older women? Or just plain incompetence? The receptionists are rude, impatient, and difficult to deal with. They'll cut you off mid-sentence just so they can pass you off before they even hear why you're calling or who you need to talk to. Management needs to deal with this and remind them they are in the business of answering calls and delivering some semblance of customer service. Select community services reps were unfriendly, unresponsive, and downright mean. I wouldn't wish them on my enemies. You better plan a year ahead to get approval if you are adding something to your property [they will say 45 days is response time (even you are asking permission to plant a tree) and they will approve or ask some more info on 45th day so that they get 45 more days to decide and goes on..........] otherwise you will be disappointed.. Feel compelled to write a follow up to my review of around a month ago. What is interesting after posting my review I had almost-"immediate" follow up from CMC. I believe that YELP and other social media outlets (which I urge all to use to express your thoughts) make a difference. How many times have any you tried to make a phone call to complain about something or write a letter about a bad event and get no response. Or the response is a form letter and a coupon for your a free taco on your next visit! Well, my posting expressing the disappointment with CMC got a immediate call from a VP. We had what I thought was a productive, thoughtful conversation and it held promise that there was someone that would listen. I waited for some promised follow-up and I in fact did follow up-but to my disappointment, the prospect of some satisfaction with such a great 1st contact;has faded to the black hole of no follow-up. I recently received a late fee notice for my HOA assessment. Suffice it to say I was perplexed by this as my account is set up to directly debit my HOA assessment each month. In this particular month my HOA assessment was debited per usual and on time by CMC, however they sent me a late fee. After I received the notice, I attempted to contact customer service to correct the issue. After three phone calls resulting in being placed on hold for over 25 minutes, a voicemail requesting follow up and two emails to customer service, I have yet to be contacted by CMC or successfully make it past the receptionist who promptly places my call on hold. The recent reviews here and responses on this website by CMC indicate they are clearly on notice as to their poor management skills. I received horrible customer service from Carol when I called customer service to get the HOA changed over to my name. Carol was rude and forwarded my call without asking what was going on. Once the call was forwarded no one answered and I had to call the customer service several times to get help. I was forwarded to Carol again and she questioned me about if i received help from a different department in a very rude manner. I had to asks her exactly what i needed to do because she was not volunteering the information on how to resolve the issue. My title company possibly never forwarded the HUD form when I bought the home to CMC but I think its the incompetent CMC who never processed the paperwork. read more
