I have to thank Les S. for his review on Seiwa Market in Costa Mesa. They are a small Japanese grocery store that took over a Fresh and Easy location, conveniently off the 405 at Harbor. Easy parking lot, not too crowded. Super friendly nice staff. I specifically came here because Les S. mentioned a good deal for their sliced meat for DIY hot pot/shabu shabu. On the day of my visit, there was a deal for $14.99 American Wagyu Chuck Roll. Significantly cheaper than other markets on sliced meats. I also got some sliced angus beef and sliced pork while I was in the meat area. There was staff refilling the meats and he was super friendly and nice. Ohh and 20% off meats on Fridays! They also had pre-cut Kabocha Squash for $1.99/lb. Wow I loveeee the kabocha squash but I dread cutting it. It's like a vigorous work out cause this squash has a thick skin and I struggle each time. I was sooooo happy it was pre-cut so I can eat to my heart's delight. I also saw the Akai Kitsune Udon noodles on sale for $2.99 so I got a few of those too. All of the ingredients were delicious for our New Years Eve DIY hot pot feast at home. Very quality :) A small market with good deals. As Les S. mentioned there are some items that go for about average pricing, but they have some killer deals. I especially love how their staff was so nice. As I was browsing around they were friendly and welcoming, and as I checked out they were courteous and helpful. Feels like a community around here. Before you head out to any other Japanese markets, stop by at this lovely market since they pretty much have all Japanese products and the price is more reasonable. The store may not be fancy but it is very practical shopping here. From fresh produce to beautiful Made in Japan dishes, you will feel like you're in Japan. Everything is displayed neatly and nicely, which is easy to find and the products are cleaned and packed well. Colorful bottle of beverages and various frozen sweets are so attractive that it is hard not to pick one up. The staff are diligently either restocking or organizing so it is great seeing the store is well kept. At the check-out, the casher was friendly and the other staff was quick on bagging the products that I purchased. read more

Do you want to avoid the chaotic energy and crowd that Tokyo Central and Mitsuwa has? Are you just wanting to get Japanese grocery items and not want food court or hot food bar? You have come to the right place! I love going to Seiwa Market over the above mentioned Japanese grocery stores for a few reasons. The aisles are vertically set up and widely spaced apart. It's not crowded in the store and the lines are short and efficient. I don't get lost or frustrated going around the store looking for something. It's really quite nice how calming the atmosphere is. The store associates are eager to help and everything is neat and organized inside. I appreciate how inexpensive the meat prices are. I made heaps of hayashi rice recently by getting ingredients all from Seiwa. I basically spent less than $15 for 10-12 servings worth of meal, meat price included. They have 20% off meat prices every Friday. Crazy knowing their regular meat prices are already very inexpensive. The store also offers some of the Cream Pan bakery items. This place took over the former Fresh & Easy location, which is fitting given it's suppose to be a bargain Japanese supermarket. However, not everything is a good deal. Some items are a bargain, but other items are actually cheaper at regular supermarkets. I think it has good price on shabu shabu meat, which is the main reason I come here, but most of them have very short expiration date. They even sell some items that are few days past expiration date. Selection isn't that great either, but it's well-organized and clean. Its packaged sushi and poke bowls are actually quite decent for a supermarket. I like its jumbo scallop and salmon sushi. read more

I am not close to this market at all. However, I don't mind driving here when i wanna hotpot or grill some meats. I like coming here because they have such great deals on meats and uni. When I need something from the Japanese markets, Seiwa is usually my go to. They are a warehouse type market so I usually find the best prices here overall. They also have an aisle with house hold items for sale! Asides from food. My favorite thing about Seiwa is that they have 20% off meats on Fridays so I usually come and stock up. If you forget your cooler or are traveling quite a ways and making other stops, don't fret! They have ice and bags at the front to pack the ice as well as boxes to keep your items cold for the long journey. read more

Very happy to have found this little gem in Costa Mesa! I was searching for a specific Japanese snack and they had it! It was so great and I found out they carry other flavors imported from Japan. I also bought some other snacks that so far have turned out great (wasabi-flavored sesame sticks)! The place was very clean and the lady who rung me up was very knowledgeable about the products and store history. I think she said they had been there about 6 years which I was impressed to hear! They had such a wide variety at the store and I'd love to go back and try some other snacks, venture over to the desserts and then maybe try my hand at cooking some of their unique meats/seafood! 10/10 recommend! read more

Back in the day, this store used to be Fresh & Easy. I loved that lil store & am so sad they are gone. I get all the feels when I go into Seiwa & see remnants of F&E signage inside. Time has passed & now a small local Japanese store exists here. The location is super convenient - right off the 405 & next to other places to eat. I've been here a handful of times & this place is never crowded which I love. It's clean inside & spacious. My first visit to this lil store I picked up some ceramics. There is a small non food aisle ! I wouldn't say it's amazing like Tokyo Central, but it's there. What is the real secret, the gold mine, is the meat section. My most recent discovery is the Friday meat specials. Every Friday there's a 20% discount on most of the meat. Can't get better than that ! I have been to many other asian grocery stores & I never found beef belly...until I looked here ! Sliced thin & oh so delicious, it can be cooked in hot pot or kbbq. I have to be honest, I usually go to Tokyo Central for my Japanese goods. But this particular day, I ventured into Seiwa hoping they had the produceTokyo Central ran out of... Lo and behold, Seiwa had it! I was impressed and so happy. Anyway, Seiwa is super low key this day, unlike Tokyo Central which is always crazy busy. Seiwa has a good amount of food items rather than non-food items. Produce is pretty well stocked, and also includes organics, which I prefer if available. Chilled perishables are housed in glass-door fridges and very organized. There is a good selection of sake and liquors. Perfect for gifting. Meat and fish department looked ok. I will need to check it out next time around. There are tons of snack foods and sweets. There is something for everyone in this aisle. Again, this would be fun to make a gift basket with an assortment of snacks and sake or teas and coffee. So many ideas. Come see for yourself. You are sure to walk out with a bagload! read more

I haven't been to Seiwa since the one time I visited many years ago. Back then, they did not have the type of inventory they have now, and the displays were horrible. Well, we recently decided to give them another shot on our way to Tokyo Central, and we never even got to TC after that. To our pleasant surprise, the place was nothing like I remembered it to be. They had a big variety of inventory, nice displays, very few people, and lower prices on many items (as compared to Tokyo Central). However, the sushi there was previously frozen and it was meh. Overall, it was a very good shopping experience and we don't plan on going back to Tokyo Central any more. Recommended. read more

So I decided to go in the grocery itself and it was very small and simple. I ended up getting some frozen products and they were reasonably priced. What a surprise!! I've never heard of this store but saw it driving to Tokyo central a block away. Idk but seems like they had so much variety. Maybe it was because not everything was in aisles?? But prices def were cheaper than Tokyo central!! Their snack zone was heavenly for a snacker like me. they even had baked goods from Cream Pan (in Tustin) but was in the fridge area so I didn't buy it. Gotta buy those warm and fresh! First time visiting and Yelpers are right. Come early and parking is not a problem. It's in a strip mall so super easy. Prices are cheaper than Misuwa. The selection of fruits and vegetables are good and everything looked fresh. Happy here. The meat selection is good and priced well. Overall if you're looking for a Japanese grocery store this is a good place to get what you need. I'll still go to Mitsuwa for some items I couldn't find at Seiwa but that's not a reason to take away a star. Not all places will have everything. So happy that I found another Asian supermarket other than H-Mart that sells good quality packaged sushi! I've been only coming here to buy their packaged sushi and I'm impressed at the quality and how good it tastes. A pack of 8 pieces of sushi (3 tuna rolls, 3 salmon rolls, & 2 scallop rolls) totaled up to be around $16 if I remember correctly. Oh! And I also get their salmon rice bowl with uni pieces on top (this was $18 I think). Both were simply and exquisitely delicious!! This is my go-to Japanese market for produce, meats, Japanese snacks, and drinks. Usually I spend a lot of time in grocery stores, sometimes over an hour but with this one.... It is simple and I get in and get out in and get out within 15 mins max, as there is usually not much of a line. The produce is fresh and neatly placed. Their meats are very fresh as well. I especially like their marinated meats. It is very flavorful, already prepared, so all you have to do is throw it on your pan, flip it on the other side, and you're done! Meals have never been easier. What's also a bonus is their bento, sushi, curry don, and Onigiri to go. They are all prepared so all you have to do is pop it in the microwave and you're ready to eat! LOVED the strawberry festival this weekend, and I'll make it a note to come back every year to grab some more strawberries! My friends and I came to Seiwa for the first time for the festival and we left with a pack of Amayuki pink strawberries, lots of sushi and bentos for lunch, and smiles all around! This was my first time at Seiwa and I am in love! I grew up going to Japanese markets all the time and I just loved the prices and selection that Seiwa had. They pack so much good stuff in such a small store! I only wish I lived closer so that I could come here on a more regular basis. Thanks Seiwa for letting me enjoy the nostalgia of Japanese strawberries again! I haven't had them since the last time I was in Japan in Spring (maybe 15 years ago now?) and this was such a wonderful experience. read more

While it is indeed smaller, I think it's a very solid alternative to Tokyo Central, especially when parking is annoying to find at Tokyo Central. Excellent Japanese grocery store right next to a Chic-fil-A restaurant that isn't the largest store but had high-quality items and outstanding customer service which was worth the slightly higher price point. We got fresh American wagyu beef and black cod that were delicious, along with fresh vegetables, tofu, bagged rice and various condiments that were all excellent. The alcohol selection is somewhat limited but the sake and beer options they had were very good. Parking also wasn't too bad despite going on New Year's Eve to grab a lot of last minute celebration things. Overall, I highly recommend the Seiwa store in Costa Mesa and look forward to going there again. read more

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this marketplace! My coworker originally brought me to this place because she told me that they had some insane meat deals on Friday afternoons... and she was right! I have been to many different Asian markets throughout OC but I really like Seiwa because it's specifically Japanese and not as busy as other popular locations like 99 ranch and Mitsuwa. I love to get different types of snacks and sauces here as I find they are slightly cheaper than the big markets. They also have such a wide selection of pretty much everything so it is an excellent way to immerse yourself in all things Japanese. I even bought a spam musubi maker here simply because it was in the sale section! Their ice cream section is great and they also have lots of different sake drinks. All this time, we've gone to Tokyo Central & Mistuwa for our groceries but recently have started coming here! I have to say, they have unbeatable prices! My husband loves buying his shochu here. They always have low prices and if you come on the right day, they even have better sale prices! I also like it here because almost every time we come, it's practically empty (definitely nice during covid times)! Staff are all wearing masks. Not many people so you're always socially distanced. This is my favorite Japanese market in Southern California! While it is slightly smaller than some other stores, the customer service is really what makes it great. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Fritzi always remembers me when I come in and tells me new items they have in stock, or if one of my favorite items comes back in stock. I always come in hoping to see her! I sometimes have a hard time locating specific ingredients and she always goes out of her way to help me find the ingredient or a substitute. read more
