    Yummy chocolate, bitter manager!

5 stars for the candy and 1 star for the service. What grouchy sales ladies. The lead, Danielle was in the back room and was not happy at all to be pulled to come up front to assist me. That's ok, everyone has bad days but I apologized for bothering her and she just stared at me. No service with a smile from her! Yes, you can still sense a scowl behind those masks! Kayla was ok but seemed new and a bit lost and confused. She needed some help from the ladies in the back. I don't mind that at all; just feel bad they left her all alone up front. She didn't know where to find certain candies, If you could add lollipops to a pound custom box and other sales questions. My Dad worked for See's in his retirement years so we will always enjoy patronizing their company. Loved the ladies he worked with. Always jarring when you get sweet candy and sour service. ** Because of Covid, no more custom requests for samples. Not sure the thinking behind that since they are still handling chocolates.

Spoiler: it was absolutely worth it. The mango and cream were SO good together. The mango flavor was bright and fresh, while the cream added just the right amount of richness without overpowering it. Everything was perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. And that outer shell? Super tasty and the perfect finishing touch. I'm also loving the new location! It was really easy to get to, and the inside is adorable. It feels bright, cute, and welcoming, plus they have a few tables where you can actually sit, hang out with friends, and enjoy your treats instead of immediately heading out the door. The Mango con Crema was definitely an Instagram find that lived up to the hype. I'll be back!

I've lived in Tucson for less than a month & my new neighbor gave me a loaf of Barrio Bread…read moresourdough. Wowza!!! Back in my old home in beautiful Providence, Rhode Island we had an artisanal bread bakery too. (Calmed Seven Stars, they have grown in the 15 or so years they've been around, now offering pastries, coffees, & with several different locations. Barrio Bread is staying truer to the original vision - great breads, bagels, just stop in to shop, & take it away.) My husband & I were headed toward N Country Club Rd early Saturday morning so thought we'd stop in & see what Barrio Bread's space was like. 15 minutes after opening we were already 7 patrons from entering the store! The line moved quickly enough, enough though we could see customers being individually greeted and served with friendly & warm attention rather than impatience. When we made it to the front of the line, it was the founder/original baker Don Guerra himself staffing the register. What a nice person! I mentioned where we'd come from (and Seven Stars), and Don stepped away from the register to call over Matt, one of the current bakers. Matr's a graduate of Johnson & Wales University (whose world-class culinary program is in Little Rhody) who met Don when he came to JWU to teach a master class in bread. Matt also baked at Seven Stars for several years before moving out to Tucson! Small world. I'd say this encounter was a little taste of (old) home - but Barrio Bread is more beautiful to look at and more varied than what I'd have available back in RI. And that sourdough is the best I've ever had! Too bad I left my phone in the car so no pictures - at least at this visit.

Good news was there was no line, and only like 4 people in the shop. Bad news was they didn't have too many breads left. I went with a seeded Cuban bread and a seeded Epi bread. Total was about $10.00 for both breads. How were they? AMAZING! I can see why the owner is a James Beard Award Winner. He was the guy who rang me up, too! Super nice guy, knew some folks in front of us and seemed like a Stalwart in the community! Good stuff! The bread was so good! I ate the Cuban loaf toasted with just some butter. The sesame seeds, the slight sourdough tang, great crunch outside and soft inside. Great bread! The seeded Epi bread we pulled apart and snacked on during our drive back home. Again, crusty and seeded outside, soft chewy inside. If their "end of the day" bread is this good, I cant imagine how good their regular selections and specialty breads are. I will have to preorder sometime or spend the night in Tucson and stand in line right when they open to sample more of their delicious offerings! Absolutely delicious breads! Will be back, for sure!

(I'm headed back on Saturday and have the exact same thing). They have something for everyone and I'm sure it is all spectacular. From berries, pancakes, to el siesta despues which is what we had. Delicious warm Pan Birote, smeared with beans, carnitas, queso Chihuahua, perfect poached eggs with a creamy and ever so tasty habanero Hollindaise and some of the best hot sauce in the side that I've tasted in a long time. Their brunch drinks all looked amazing but I had to order the cactus cooler, that drink has to be one of my favs. We sat at the bar and had the best service. He made me the cactus cooler even though it wasn't on the brunch menu and was so attentive. The restaurant was nice and vibrant and started to fill up closer to noon. There was a slight level of heat mixed around the lettuce, radishes and pepitas crisps. Topped with Manchebo cheese, it was delicious. The pork Chop entree was excellent. It was mesquite grilled, sliced and served over broccoli rabe with a berry sauce that carried the obligatory head. I loved it. The Panna Cotta with diced apples and raspberry sauce brought my tongue down to normal operating temperatures. This is a quirky place with a helpful and accommodating staff. Give it a try!
