My First Niagara Falls Experience Was Completely Ruined…read more I rarely leave one-star reviews, but I feel obligated to share my experience so future travelers can make an informed decision before booking with Gray Line Toronto. This was my family's first visit to Niagara Falls. We planned this trip months in advance, expecting it to be one of the happiest memories of our lives. Unfortunately, it became one of the most disappointing travel experiences I have ever had. 1. The Seating Policy Was Never Disclosed After I complained, Gray Line claimed that seats are "unassigned unless upgraded." However, I carefully reviewed my Agoda booking confirmation and voucher. Nowhere did it state that seating was first-come, first-served, unassigned, or that passengers boarding in Niagara Falls would receive only the remaining seats after Toronto passengers boarded first. If this is the company's policy, customers should be clearly informed before booking. Had I known this, I would have chosen another tour. 2. We Paid the Same Price but Received the Worst Seat One member of my family was seated in the very last row beside the restroom wall. The wall blocked much of the window, making it difficult to enjoy the scenery during the long drive. We paid exactly the same price as everyone else, yet received one of the worst seats on the bus. It honestly felt as though Niagara Falls passengers were simply filling the leftover seats after Toronto passengers had already taken the better ones. If that is how the tour operates, customers deserve to know before they pay. 3. The Air Conditioning Was Not Adequate Gray Line insists that the air conditioning was functioning. Whether it was technically running is not the issue. The bus remained extremely hot during an Extreme Heat Warning in Ontario. Many passengers were visibly sweating and using handheld fans or portable fans throughout the trip. The cooling felt more like weak air circulation than proper air conditioning. A sightseeing bus should provide a safe and comfortable environment, especially during dangerous summer temperatures. 4. I Became Physically Ill Because of the excessive heat and my seating location, I suffered severe motion sickness, dizziness, nausea, and symptoms of heat exhaustion. Even after the tour ended, I continued feeling unwell. Instead of enjoying my first visit to Niagara Falls, I spent much of the day trying to recover physically. 5. The Unexpected Uber Transfer Another part of the tour left me confused. During the tour, my understanding was that we were dropped off at a garden and told we would continue to the next meeting location by Uber rather than being picked up again by the tour bus. This was completely unexpected and was never mentioned in my Agoda booking confirmation or voucher. When I book a guided bus tour, I reasonably expect transportation between scheduled tour locations to be included or clearly explained before booking. 6. Gray Line Ignored My Actual Experience After returning home, I contacted Agoda expecting an objective review. Instead, Agoda simply forwarded Gray Line's response stating that the meeting instructions were correct, the air conditioning was functioning, seating was normal, transportation was properly arranged, and everything was delivered exactly as advertised. Those statements do not reflect my actual experience. Company policies and technical explanations do not change what I experienced as a paying customer. 7. Customer Experience Matters Customer satisfaction should not be measured only by whether internal procedures were followed. It should be measured by the actual experience of paying customers. Passengers were sweating. People were using fans. One member of my family spent the entire journey beside the restroom wall with a blocked view. I became physically ill. These were real customer experiences, not opinions.

Be sure to go late for night visit where you get to see a colorful, artistic, steamy, and musical visual art show take place inside the entire power plant. Somehow, by some miracle, and done by some geniuses whom somehow made show about history and a power plant very interesting and even enchanting. Somehow, learning about engineering and science was fascinating! The long tunnel walk sounds like chore, but its actually quite revitalizing and thrilling strolling through the vibrant colorful lights, and finally to the outside deck that is so crazy close Niagara Falls for some breathtaking beautiful views of waters. We watched for awhile and then made our way to the elevator for the tunnel and viewing station. We went 180 feet down & it felt like 60° inside the tunnel, which is 1/2 mile long. It was freezing!! Upstairs it was in the high 80s. We took photos of the tunnel going in because it was so different. We loved looking at the multi colored lights on the falls which looked like the aurora borealis. On our walk through the tunnel going out I enjoyed the lights again. More photos! We did not take ponchos off. It was cold! They kept us warm. I took photo of rainbow in the tunnel. Got in the elevator to go up, and when we arrived upstairs it was warm!!! Ponchos off! Before leaving we went to the gift shop to purchase souvenirs. Best purchase? Tee shirt with BEST. DAY. She was kind and patient with everybody in the group. Now for the attractions...the Maid of the Mist and Cave of the Winds were definitely an AMAZING experience. On the Maid of the Mist, you get close to Horshoe Falls and just feel the loud roar and energy of the falls. Absolutely stunning! Went on the hurricane deck at Cave of the Winds and got a hydrotherapy massage underneath Bridal Veil Falls. The water was intense and so powerful. A magnificent experience. We had lunch at Maple Leaf Place. Food was ok. Couldn't really eat from the food court since I have IBS so I don't have much to say about the food. The steak poutine was recommended and I was told that it was good. ‍ I didn't skip out on the maple syrup and fudge tasting though. Yum! Delicious. Had no clue there were 3 different types of maple syrup and I found that I like the dark amber syrup the best. Bought some chocolate covered blueberries and jujubes. My husband loved them...me not so much. I prefer my chocolate with no fruit, but I did enjoy their tasty orange dreamsicle fudge. Because there was a big tour bus that arrived at Maple Leaf Place just a few minutes we got there, our time at the food court took too long since the lines were long and everybody in my family were hungry. This meant that it cut our time for souvenir shopping. I'm sure my hubby was happy about that. After lunch, we went to Skylon Tower and went to the observation deck. Not so much so for the sign itself, but for the fact that, as a tourist, I didn't have any cash on me. They give you a card at the end to give the guide/company feedback; they could at least give you the option to send the guide payment through electronic means as well. -The hour-long lunch stop. I could do without the lunch stop. Again, some people probably really wanted it, but for me, I would've rather hit more up. -The guide basically just took us to the stops and said meet me back here at X. They say on the site that guides love taking pictures for you, well that's kind of hard to do, if you're way back up at the van. Not that I wanted my picture taken at any time, and if I did I could've asked someone in the group to, but it just seemed odd for him to stay back. Especially if somebody in the group got injured or something. -We didn't seem to do much. Maid of the Mist, Cave of the Winds, lunch, the actual power station, whirlpool, floral clock, Table Rock, and Skylon Tower. I had done pretty much everything else, so I don't know what more they could've done. But maybe they could've done 1-2 more things if they shortened the lunch break. I got a couple of discounts when I signed up, but ultimately, I don't think it was worth it. I don't regret it, but if I could do it over, I would've just crossed the border myself to do Cave of the Winds and Maid of the Mist, and done Skylon Tower on my own.

Take an elevator down to the shafts...walk through some narrow claustrophobic tunnels, wait in line to see Niagara Falls from behind through some small portals, which is interesting but disappointing at the same time. Finally walk out to the main balcony that is the very closest to the falls for some incredible and sensational views of the falls. Fortunately we were on a quiet weekday late afternoon, otherwise I think this would've been a disaster on a crowded weekend. $33CAD still seems steep for this experience, but it was included in my Niagara Falls Pass which makes it close to $20CAD, or $14USD, which I would say worth it.

Ultimately, I think if you do one of the boat tours, you get a closer view of the falls, and this attraction isn't really needed.

We chose to ride the full route without getting off so we could see everything and could decide later if we wanted to come back to a stop. The bus was pretty empty and for quicker attractions like the floral clock and whirlpool the driver got off with us so we could snap a few closer pictures. These were the sort that were nice to take pics, but you wouldn't want to stop for a full hour stop for like you would for the boat ride or other stops offered. Even though my parents had been to Canada before they agreed that they saw more than going on their own since you don't need to navigate or google good tourist spots. The full route took about an hour and a half. They provided history of the area, gave pointers on what was around, and kept us entertained. If you choose to get off at a stop they come back to pick you up about an hour later. The driver said he also does wine tours on the weekends.

The reservation for this tour was easy and Sheila, at Double Deck Tours, was honest when she told me I would have no difficulty getting tickets for myself and my husband when we checked into the DoubleTree by Hilton in Niagara Falls, Canada. At the DoubleTree we spoke with their representative, Jesus, who explained the tour, where we would visit the next day, and we bought the tour. The bus showed up on time. We were the first stop for the bus and we garnered seats on the top in the front row. As the bus wasn't at full capacity, we were able to each have a separate seat. We visited behind Horseshoe Falls and tunnels after a short trip past the dam. Nadine gave us a lot of information about both the hydroelectric plant and the area in general with some amazing stats on how much water flows over the falls each minute...Oh My!!! Next we viewed a river whirlpool by crossing over on the Whirlpool Aerocar. What a treat for me as I've white water rafted and looking at those class 6 (maybe 7 if there was such a thing) scared me. I was glad I was way up high and if you look at my pictures you might feel the same!!! We visited the Flower Clock next after driving past the Niagara Parks Conservatory. Wish we'd had time to visit the Butterfly Conservatory. After a driving tour to see other sights pointed out we landed at the Hornblower Boat Tours. So glad to skip the lines and move to the front. It was a hot day and we were sweating as it was. The ride on the Hornblower was FAB! Used to be "Maid in the Mist", but they lost the bid to the Canadian concession "Hornblower." Now as to why I gave this group only three stars as I did have a stellar day. When I called Sheila at Double Deck, before I arrived, I was told I might like to book at the hotel as the walk back to the DoubleTree by Hilton was a six block walk up a steep hill and Niagara was experiencing a heat advisory. It was twenty extra US dollars per person, but well worth it considering a long day with lots of sight seeing, so being taken back to my hotel was a plus. However, more than three times during the day Nadine, our tour guide, expressed how many people liked to just stay at Victoria Park after the tour and not be returned to the DoubleTree. Saying it once was fabulous. Given the option was a wonderful thing. But for me the repeated statement gave me the opinion that they really didn't want to make the ten minute drive back to the DoubleTree. As it was, three couples returned. Niagara Falls was under a heat advisory! To top off the bad taste of these comments, we were told to return to the Welcome Center by 3pm to meet the bus. We got off the Hornblower at 2:50 pm. I felt very rushed as we fought our way through the crowds to get back as fast as we could, finally arriving at 3:05 pm. The bus wasn't even there. We waited for it to arrive. At least there was a place to sit in shade. Would I use this tour group again? Yes. Would I share with Nadine what her words suggested to me? I guess I am by this review. I would tell her how much of a turn off it was to think I would be left behind to take a difficult walk during a heat advisory which would be stressful to me.
