When I showed up for my appointment, everything seemed well run. The staff got me checked in and didn't keep me waiting too long. The doctor was approachable and didn't jump straight into medical talk, which helped ease some of my nerves. They asked a variety of questions that touched on my general health and made sure they had a full picture. I liked that they circled back a couple times to double check details. That kind of attention made me feel like they were really listening. The way they explained things was easy to follow and they didn't act rushed even though I could tell they had a full schedule. They also mentioned a few areas where I could improve some things in my routine. I didn't feel judged, just guided. Original review: I have been going to See optometric design for over a decade. However recently their service has gone down the drain. It takes several weeks to take an appointment. But more egregious is they now charge $25 for rescheduling the appointment per person. I can understand if for business reasons they are trying to optimize their scheduling, however they need to disclose it upfront to customers when scheduling the appointment so customers can make informed decision. However, they never disclosed it upfront and they bring up the fee only when trying to reschedule. There must be some law violation somewhere. Pity that they are going to lose several long time customers for this small thing. I had referred several families to See optometric over last decade but sadly can no longer recommend them. EDIT: Looks like See optometric is violating HIPPA by posting customer's personal information on yelp. They have tried to do in past too. And they are trying to hide behind 'small business' ruse. I support all small businesses and give them business over big name brands as much as possible (after all, I had a small business too). As I had mentioned before, I would have no problem paying cancellation fee if they had informed me earlier. Imagine, you being asked to pay some hidden fee AFTER you have purchased something. Regardless of size of business, that is unethical practice and potentially illegal. And looks like I am not the only one. I love going to Dr Ngo as our eye doctor - I have seen him when i had 2 kids - then 3 now 4 kids, will still see him in the future. The worst place you could take your child too. Dr. Ngo does not know how to talk to a child. I took my son here after making sure he is eligible to get a prescription and can get glasses if he can. My son is 5 years old and understands everything if asked correctly. Dr. Ngo was rude when he talked and was rushing him through his exam. At the end Dr. Ngo says my son has .5 on each of the eyes but cannot give him prescription. I asked him multiple times that I checked before coming to see if he was eligible and he says he is eligible but I cannot give him prescription as he is too small inspite of me checking if this is a good age to bring him in. I was a regular to this facility and have referred a bunch of my friends to go here inspite of Dr. Ngo being not so friendly but this is the end of it! After having a few eye infections that needed instant care, I was recommended to Dr. Ngo by a friend and have been a patient of his for a little over two years now. He's young and hip, yet very professional. He's the kind of doctor that doesn't make you feel intimidated to ask questions you think may be dumb. Dr. Ngo is very knowledgeable and had answers to all my questions; he was very thorough with his explanations. Two years later, at his recommendation, I decided to have Lasik and no longer need his services, but I have recommended a few people to him, including my b-friend Alex and a few coworkers. I've been Dr. Ngo's patient for the past three years, and he is simply the best optometrist I've dealt with in my 25+ years of impaired vision. He conducts an extremely comprehensive eye examination with state-of-the-art equipment and is extremely meticulous in obtaining very precise measurements and making the proper diagnoses. Dr. Ngo allows his patients to make a very informed decision regarding their various options for corrective eyewear. He allowed me to use a variety of trial lenses from different vendors to determine which had the best fit, comfort and prescription before I purchased a long-term supply. Dr. Ngo's personality is also a huge plus, as he is extremely friendly and easygoing, and he also makes sure to deliver your eyewear as quickly as possible. I am pretty sure he accepts all types of insurance, as I've dealt with different types of coverage and vendors through different employers. He also makes you aware of any specials or rebates that are out there regarding the different products he offers, and from perusing his shop, he has a pretty impressive collection of designer as well as more economical frames (e.g., Prada, Armani, Juicy Couture, D&G, Guess, even Oakleys & Ray-Bans, etc.). Another testament to his integrity was his willingness to suggest corrective surgery after he observed that my prescription had stabilized and astigmatism improved, referring me to a very trustworthy Intralase eye surgeon at the LaserVue Eye Center. My vision has been 20/20 for more than a year, after previously having a prescription of -9.0 in both eyes. I continue to go to Dr. Ngo for my semi-annual examinations, and would recommend him to anyone seeking an optometrist. read more

I dread going for eye checkups simply because there is a lot of decision making involved - from answering doc's questions to choosing a frame. I am so tempted to not give a review of this place just so that it stays away from the public eye and I get appointment whenever I want but doing that will be incredibly selfish, so here I go - The girl at the reception gave me an appointment over phone accommodating me as much as she could. The doctor, Quoc A. Ngo is a gem. He not only answers your questions but also explains everything that's going on with your eye in the simplest language. My husband and I both hate eye check ups but this is by far the most satisfied we have been and this place makes us want to revisit next year for next checkup session. There are many frame options but not so much that you will get confused. I loved the frames in display. If you need more options you can check online and call the girl behind reception to get it. A month ago, my husband came in to see how much was it for them to put prescription on my NEW sunglasses. It was my first time doing so and I wasn't sure by putting on prescription would ruin my sunglasses and will it look different. The reception in the front said that it would look the same. "Nothing will change." My husband called me and asked me if I wanted to continue. I asked him to ask the receptionist if she's sure that nothing will change (I bought the Ray Ban because of the unique color and radiance) and she repeated herself that nothing will change. I told my husband to do it then. 2 weeks later they called me to pick up my sunglasses. I was excited. I requested to see it before I left the office and the lenses was wrong. My original lenses had radiance shades on it. So I asked the receptionist why it looks different then my original. She took a look at the notes in the file and stated that the Lab didn't follow instruction. (This is bad customer service because customer do not need to know who's at fault. We only want the problem to be fix.) So I asked them to have it fixed. I repeated myself and said that I wanted it to look identical with my original lenses. She said sure. 2 weeks later they called and told me that my sunglasses are done. I asked... it's corrected? She said yes. I dropped by the following day and it was all wrong. This time the added radiance but it's not identical. The Dr. said that they it can never be identical. HELLO? Are customers specializes in prescription lenses? No! If they don't tell us then how are we suppose to know. I requested to have my original lenses put on and get a reimbursement. They said that I need to deal with the lab... He said that it was not their fault. REALLY? From a customer stand point, we do not care who's fault it is. We need it to be fixed. (Please note that the receptionist was the one who told me that everything would be the same...) What's frustrating is the way Paul talked to me. It seems that he was more worried about the money and how much work it would take to get things corrected. As a business, you should be willing to work with customers if they aren't happy. The lenses cost me $90 (not included whatever they charged my insurance ) and that was not refundable (never disclosed). I hate to say but not willing to budge and work with me cost him my future business along with my family members who goes to this office. This is not a bad review on Dr. Ngo, it's a review on his office management. Customers like to be disclosed when it comes to these type of situations. When you don't disclose something to your customers or give them incorrect information, you should take ownership and be willing to do something for your customer. I lost my $90 but how much will they lose when they will not have five returning patiences? In the end, they replaced my glasses back to my original lenses but they did not refund the $$$. I still lost $90. They truth is that if the receptionist told us from the beginning that the lenses will be different, I would not do it. (Why ruin a perfect pair of sunglasses??) At the time of my check up he had an intern with him. He was very thorough with the check up and very patient explaining to me and to his colleague the reasons for the test and the result of the exam. So I've been going to the same optometrist that my family went to, for most of my life. I never really payed attention to what I got, I just wanted to use up the insurance I had that year. It wasn't until recently that I've been getting eye strains whenever I wore my glasses. One of my friends referred me to this office instead, where I met Dr. Ngo. Dr Ngo rocks! He's a very laid back and professional guy. He's also pretty thorough without being pushy on services or products like a lot of other places are. I first came into his office because I had some irritation in my eye that he helped to heal. I've been seeing him for a few years now and I don't even really wear any type of corrective lenses. It's just the occasional checkup to make sure I'm not developing any eye problems or to pick up the random pair of sunglasses when I lose my old ones. Not once has he tried to push anything on me that I don't really need so that makes the visits less stressful. Won't be returning nor will I recommend this office because of the front staffs. Back in August, my daughter broke her glasses & told her that we like to expedite the process. Was told that it would be ready in a week. Cash patient - no insurance involved. A week passed, called to check status, the gal said it's not there yet & told me to check back tomorrow. The following day, called & Paul said to check back. Seriously?!? It's a phone call away for you to call your vendor to check the status on delivery. It took 4 calls. Finally, I told her that I expect to be able to pick up glasses the next day or cancel our order. My daughter couldn't see the blackboard for school over 1 1/2weeks. As an optometrist office, you should know how important it is for her to have her glasses asap. Moving forward: I called Nov 19, spoke to Paul. Told him that I found out we have VSP. Asked him if they can bill for reimbursement. Once again, zero customer service from this office. He told me I need to log on to VSP website & file a claim myself. I asked for Paul to email or fax me the itemized receipt. I was told that I should get it by Friday. I was at Target on Friday at 3:30pm, so I thought I save them the trouble to email or fax office to me. So I went to the office to pick up the receipt. The same Asian gal (she never introduced herself - so don't know her name). She said she can't find the chart & can't get a hold of Paul. How can you loose a chart? She said maybe Paul took the chart to another office. Whatever for? Is it that complicated to print out a receipt? She assured me, I will get it via email by tomorrow. Guess what? You guessed it. He sat me down, explained my situation, how I should take care of it, it's causes, and how to prevent it from happening again. I hate it when doctors rush you or give you one worded answers while they're walking you out the door so they can see their next patient. Dr. Ngo is not one of them. I have been meaning to write a review about Dr. Ngo or should I call him Dr. I can see now! :) I have been a patient of Dr.Ngo for the past 2 years! I have had my share of eye docs and by far, Dr.Ngo supersedes all the other eye doctors. It is very easy to get an appointment. May it be an expired prescription and I am on my way out of town, but I cannot refill my contacts without a current exam. I call Dr.Ngo and he squeezed me in right away. Even though he was booked. He is very accommodating and brings joy to my "eyes." I dont know what I would have done had I not been able to see things clearly and had to wear my glasses... BOO!!!! Just the other day, I had to schedule an emergency appointment. I didnt know why my eye was so swollen and he schedule me in right away once again. The great thing about Dr.Ngo is he makes you feel at ease. Even though, I was panicking. I thought I was about to lose my eye. He put me at ease and comforted me. He said, "everything will be okay." He immediately knew what was wrong with me. Walked me through the steps of how my eye got swollen... what I needed to do about it... what could have happened had I not treated it....and of course what the worst case scenerio would be. He gave me antibiotics and.... Voila! Im back to normal. When I first went to Dr.Ngo. I was surprised at how much I did not know about my eyes. He really takes the time to examine you... to ensure the right fit, the type of contacts that actually fit better with your lifestyle.... etc. He genuinely wants to best for you. He fitted me for my contacts, I'd have to say, my eyes felt like they are more moist and comfortable. He even taught me a new trick to help keep my contact cleaner which makes it more comfortable to wear. I used to go through my 2 weeks faster than most people.... just because my eyes get dry so easily. I spent hundreds of dollars on contacts that were unnecessary, now thanks to Dr.Ngo. I started coming here last year because I decided that the Costco on Senter was too far to traverse and See Optometry is close to home and had positive reviews. I tried calling today to schedule a contact lens exam because I'm due for my annual eye exa. Unfortunately I will not be coming here. I'll drive a bit out of the way to go someplace else with better quality, customer care, and selection. June 2011: My first experience here was ok, possibly 3 stars. Dr. Ngo may be excellent but his assistant was not. She took ten minutes to get the puff of air into one of my eyes. and couldn't get the other. After a while of trying. the doctor told her to move aside and did both my eyes again in 10 seconds. The exam was standard and quick. The equipment and facility did not look up to date. The prescription was perfect (I had a bit of trouble with this in the past). The selection of frames were minimal. I was tempted to take my prescription and go elsewhere but managed to find one pair of glasses that fit well. Two week later, I got my glasses. The Indian guy that helped me out was really nice and knew what he was doing (he is he only one worth talking to at that place). CONCLUSION: I was moderately annoyed by the assistant but was happy with the outcome. Also, when I went, the A/C wasn't on so you may want to reconsider coming in the summer. June 2012: Called to ask about contact lens exam and fitting. Apparently Dr. Ngo charges a contact lens fitting exam($60 -$85) on top of the normal eye exam. I called to ask about the price and if they still charged if I'd already had this exam done in the past by another optometrist before. They do charge (even if you want the same exact brand of lens you had before). I asked the female assistant on the phone about the fitting procedure trying to understand what exactly I'm giong to pay for (Costco only charged me $30 in the past for doing pretty much nothing but told me it was a one time expense). I believed I asked her 3 times during the telephone call. She didn't answer my question and told me to call a different Optometrist. I said "Excuse me?" wondering if she really just referred me to a different optometrist without answering my question. Again, she told me to call the Milpitas Optometric Group because they may have a different pricing structure. So she did refer a patient away and the whole time I could hear the doctor in the background telling her stuff. I was so taken aback I asked her if she was really telling me to go find a different doctor. Answer: Yes. I can't believe I was kicked out as a patient for asking a question. I guess that don't want to answer questions that can be googled which I did (fitting exam is when they give you a bunch of test lens to see which ones fit you better. I know which ones I wanted already so definitely not worth $60-$85). CONCLUSION: I feel humiliated being treated like that. I guess Dr. Ngo doesn't value patients or he already has so many patients already that he doesn't care. read more

My wife and I have been to this optometrist office for 8+ years. Great services. Both Dr Ngo and Paul knew us by first names. Nice office. Great selections. Dr Ngo is very professional and knowledgeable, and friendly. I'm far sighted. He explained the potential risks of dilation for far sighted and suggested not performing dilation for me unless really needed. He used other measures for exam and assessment, e.g. pressure, digital retinal photo images. Paul is every experienced and knowledgeable for glasses/lens. Since I'm far sighted, I made some special requirements for glasses for different uses, e.g. driving, daily, sports, etc. He understood well and made adjustments in orders. I'm really happy with all the glasses I have got. All the other staff members are also super nice and attentive. Some are no longer working there. This is my first five-star review so this place is definitely a favorite in my books. I used to think optometry clinics were places where the patient simply walked in, did the "1, 2" thing on the eye machine, and got prescribed glasses. Dr. Ngo was that and so much more. For the longest time I had a great phobia of contact lenses and even though I knew they were good for me I couldn't fathom the logic behind willingly putting an object into my eyes. Other places tried, failed, AND put in some bullshit fee for some stupid reason (like forcing me to buy the contact lens beforehand or charging for the "training"). Seriously, if I wasn't going to wear contact lenses why should I have to pay for them? When I went to Dr. Ngo I was expecting to fail again. However he was very patient with me and taught me how to put on my contacts in a very professional, but never condescending way. He even let me try trial pairs for a week before deciding to buy more. When fitting me for a new prescription he laid out every option that was available to me and made sure I was knowledgeable about everything- from what kind of contact lens solution to use (that I also got for free from him), the available discounts and rebates, and how to use my insurance to my best advantage (there's more but you get the gist). Dr. Ngo is cool. He's laid back yet professional. He's easy to talk to & will take the time to listen to you. It's easy to get Saturday appointments at his office. The day I got my reminder card to get my yearly check-up, I called right away (on a Friday). The lady asked what day is best for me, & I said with a questioning tone, "Saturday?" I was expecting her to say it would be a week or 2 before I could come in on a Saturday, but she said, "Sure. Tomorrow? What time?" WOW! I got the day AND time I wanted! read more

Given this is my first experience getting prescription glasses, I'm not sure if this is typical of optometrists, but I visiting this business certainly felt like a bait-and-switch. The exam was fine, but I was continually pushed to buy much more than was covered by my insurance. I was also derided for not wanting transition lenses (I mainly need the glasses for computer use and don't want to have to position my head at a certain angle to read the screen). Even after declining special glare coating, fancy lenses, etc, I still ended up paying $150 *over* what was covered by insurance. By contrast, I went to Costco and the total cost on a second pair was less than the overage on the first pair for comparable lenses and frames.... This office is spectacular! Dr Ngo and his staff go to great measures to ensure that their patients receive the highest quality service, as well as the best eyecare products available. His exams are always very thorough and he is more than willing to explain to you everything that's going on with your eyes, instead of simply handing you a prescription. He doesn't rush through exams or pressure any one of his patients into spending more than they need, which I've seen too often in other optometric offices :( If you're looking for a new optometrist, I definitely recommend checking this place out! read more

I like to support friends, and family business, but I really can't rave enough about Dr. Ngô though. He's been taking really good care of me whether I have insurance or not.
