As so many others, I purchased a policy for my Jeep Cherokee, which was supposed to provide a 1000 dollar refund if no claims were made. You have a measly 30 day window to provide a notarized claim. I took out the policy in 2016, and it expired Dec 31, 2025. I remembered a few days into February and phoned to see if I could still submit a claim and was told no. They count on people not acting instantly. Considering I took out the policy nearly TEN YEARS ago, I think 40 days after expiry is not unreasonable. read more

I was pressured into buying the Secure Drive Elite Mechanical Breakdown Insurance Policy and was assured that it was the best option for my 2019 Tesla Model 3. I got home and called the dealership back because I changed my mind and they convinced me to keep it. Now I look at the fine print only to see that it only covers for 48 months or 142,000 km when my Tesla Warranty covers up to 150,000 km. I called Secure Drive recently to cancel and they said "sorry, it has already been past 30 days". It shouldn't matter if i haven't made any claims. Even ICBC gives you a refund if you cancel your car insurance. What a scam!!! Don't get roped into this by anyone let alone what is claiming to be a reputable dealership. ALSO.....FYI...Dealerships are encouraged to aggressively sell these Secure Drive Insurance Policies because they get a huge commission on them and generally mark the price up extensively. read more

Nothing but problems and denials My car has been at the dealer for one week. SecureDrive told me the dealership did not send necessary paperwork. I called the dealership who then sent me the communication which proved the in fact did send the paperwork. So I called securedrive back who said "well we are missing one thing, the estimate for a used transmission. I then asked if they originally asked for it a week ago. To which they replied "no" Now I am apparently waiting again. A week. AND apparently, you arent to receive a rental benefit until the claim is approved. Previously, they owed me $100 for a tow that should have been covedered but was denied. It took me endless phone calls and not receiving the cheque that was supposedly mailed twice before finally getting it. They denied two claims previuosly that I had to fight with them about and then they approved it. I don't know about all exteneded warranties but these guys just aren't worth it at all. read more

We purchased a used car from Lexus Port Moody, BC, in June 2022 for $8,995. At the same time, we were convinced to buy a SecureDrive mechanical breakdown insurance policy for $3,890 + tax, totaling $4,084.50. This was the most expensive and "comprehensive" option available -- we were told it would cover all major repairs, including the engine and transmission. We still have the original policy and a leaflet provided at the time, which said things like "Wondering about typical repair costs?" and listed "Engine Replacement: $12,000" as the top item -- clearly implying that such costs would be covered. Based on this and the salesperson's verbal assurance, we trusted the coverage and agreed to the high insurance cost. Fast forward to May 2025: the engine fails. We file a claim. Then we're told the repair won't be covered because our car is only worth $2,250 now, and they won't pay more than that. Here's the issue: even in 2022, the wholesale value of the car was only around $3,800-$4,000. Meaning, the car was already worth less than the cost of the insurance itself. So how could they ever claim they would cover an engine replacement if their payout cap would always be lower than that? This is classic misrepresentation: we were sold a policy that was effectively worthless from the start, especially for major repairs -- which were the main reason we bought it. They collected our money, promised coverage, and are now refusing to pay when it matters most. We are demanding one of two fair outcomes: - A full refund of the insurance cost (corrected for the three years that passed), or -That they cover the cost of the engine replacement, which we estimate is around $9,000. read more

Summary: I have the secure drive warranty elite plan. They covered the cost of my ford vehicle repair that costs around $7800 CAD. The time that it took them to approve my warranty claim is around 6 to 8 weeks. They do have rental car benefits but it is only in effect after warranty claim is approved and the car is in actively repairing. They cover 2-5 days depending on their decision. The rental car cost cannot exceed $50 / day. This, benefit depends on your plan with them. My ford car had a engine issue which needed many different parts and it was like reassembling the engine due to flaw design. The quote from my dealership was around $7000 - 8000. They asked for many photos, Explanations and documentation from my ford dealership that has my car. Which took them approximately 6 weeks to be ready to review my claim via ford dealership. It took them approximately 1-2 week to make decision. They approved my claim so I am happy and it saved me $7800 CAD. Thank you so much for being reliable and actually approving valid warranty claim. My car broke down in the middle of nowhere 2 weeks ago and I brought it to the closest dealership to me at the time, which is 5 hours away from my home. I have now been without a car for almost 3 weeks and have had to pay almost $1500 in car rentals waiting on securedrive to process my warranty. I called them to find out what was tak8ng so long, and they immediately threw blame onto the dealership for not giving them all the information. I called the dealership immediately afterwards, and was told they sent all the information in their "list" immediately after receiving, but have continuously been getting random extra questions asked about the repair, that could have all been asked in the original list to speed up the process. I am a single parent on a single income with no support l, and have been expected to just be out of a car for almost 3 weeks because you guys can't get it together and deal with the claim in a timely manner. read more

I WOULD RECOMMEND Secure drive and would probably buy extended warranty with them on my next vehicle again. They just need to feel the frustration of the vehicle owner before we file a claim that we already been through to a lot of stress and cannot afford to have more stress by delaying the process on their part and please asking too many photos of the damage part could've been done in a couple of days to get the decision and not 2-3 weeks. From 1 star review I've bumped it up to 3 stars and changed my decision, will give secure drive a chance to improve their service next time. I bought a truck with an existing SecureDrive warranty and the paid SecureDrive to transfer the warranty into my name. Shortly after, l tried to put in a claim to which SecuredDrive declined and then cancelled the policy stating that the vehicle had been modified (the previous owner had put on a lift kit). SecureDrive has refused to refund the transfer fee OR reimburse me for the unused portion of the policy (which is contrary to what their policy states). I would never recommend this company and will be pursuing my right to a refund in small claims court. read more

I purchased a warranty from this company, when it was sold to me for the over $2200 the sales pitch used was I would get a refund of $1000 if I did not make a claim on it. I was never informed by the seller I would need to call the warranty company 5 YEARS later to make a claim to get that money back. long story short I sold the vehicle 4 months after my warrants expired, discovered all my paperwork while cleaning the vehicle out. Called the company to get my $1000 back and was denied due to calling over the 30 days allotted to make the claim! Negative if I could! So Secure Drive sells used vehicle repair policies through slick sales people at auto dealers. The sales people promiss that everything is covered, "all you pay is $250 deductable and you get a free rental". My engine blew up after 1000km and guess what, Secure Drive is nowhere to be found! LGM the company from hell first trys everything to deny the claim, then they only cover part of the cost of the parts then they only cover part of the labor costs. When you call them they can't discuss anything with you the customer - "you need to talk to your service center". Then they wrote off my Jeep Grand Cherokee Summitt eco diesel because it was too expensive to fix. They offered me $20,000 less than I paid for it 3 months before that. Yet no one at Secure Drive nor LGM wants to talk to me! Yet here on Welp their BOT replies instantantly that they are sorry to hear my experience and that she has confirmed someone talked to me personally. Do Not Trust Secure Drive Nor LGM Ever. READ YOUR POLICY CAREFULLY. I had a Securedrive Elite policy for a used vehicle. I paid slightly more than $5000 over three years, for coverage that was for 48 months. I sold the vehicle to a dealer today, nine months before the policy expired. When I asked what portion of my premium would be returned to me for the early cancellation (as one would expect to be the case with any policy of insurance), I was advised that the policy was not cancelled but voided. Only a policy cancelled within 30 days is subject to a refund; as such, no premiums would be returned. The policy is transferable to a new owner when a vehicle is sold, but only if the new owner is a private person, not a dealership. In other words, Securedrive reaps a net benefit when a policy is "voided" when you sell your vehicle. They return none of your premium, and they no longer have any risk associated with a future claim. I would not do business again with an insurance company that organized its business around such a policy, and would not recommend it to anyone. Ask yourself if any other insurance company you have ever dealt with declines to return to you your pro-rated premium if you cancel the policy early. read more

I paid for full coverage on me vehicle. on Tuesday it went into the shop on Thursday everything was submitted to them for warrant. it's now Monday the next week truck is apart and they have not approved the warranty work. the actual repair time is 8 hours worth of work. i paid extra for car rental and found out they only pay one days rental for 8 hours work and my car has been in for 1 week so I can't get a rental paid for and they still have not approved warranty claim. We had the mechanical breakdown warranty through Secure Drive. Make sure you read the fine print before purchasing any warranty through this company. They will not explain very much and when you do want to make a claim, they will try their best to avoid paying. Our warranty came with a "Claim-free Reward" as stated below. If no claims have been filed or additional benefits utilized by the time your MBP coverage expires, you may choose from one of the following three reimbursement options: Selling dealer will credit the total amount paid for your MBP towards the purchase of a new MBP; or A store credit at your selling dealer for the full amount paid for your MBP (inclusive of taxes) up to $2,000; or A refund cheque of the amount paid for your MBP (inclusive of taxes) up to $1,000. We weren't able to make any claims and so were hoping to salvage the return of $1000. Not so fast..our warranty was transferred through a previous buyer - where an additional fee was charged - so apparently this reward was not valid. When i advised them that none of this was mentioned when i transferred the warranty they replied with "no one would've told you about this but it is stated in the fine print" Bottom line - Don't buy extended warranty through this company read more

I have purchased warranty from SECURE DRIVE 2 years ago from the dealer in Calgary. I specifically asked about " claim free". I was told that this policy if i do not claim than i will get money back with out single question asked. Now policy has expired and i call for refund. STORY BEGINS--- i was told that dealer sold you wrong policy and mine does not cover refund. now they said refund is only applicable on 3 or more yeas of policy purchased and show me written in small letters in policy. I read lots of reviews online they have same complain. so no matter what policy you purchase you will not get your money back. policy are made for them to make money not to give you money. I also purchased a Secure Drive extended warranty through a local dealer. The vehicle was 2 years old at the time and I bought a 96month/120000Km policy. We have had no repair claims so I wanted to check when the policy would expire and how to claim my refund ($1000 cash). Turns out the policy is dated from the Initial In-service date (not when I bought the policy) and the 96 months expired 4 1/2 months ago. Now they won't pay the refund because the policy says I have to make a notarized claim within 30 days of the expiry of the policy. Great service, you can't make a claim before expiry but you must make it within 30 days of expiry or you are out of luck. The dealer did not explain that the period was from the original in service date and the policy doesn't state that date (although it implies they do state the date). read more
